In the event of an actual apocalypse, if you don't own a gun you're only collecting supplies for someone who does.
Over the years whenever someone suggests you need to hoard gold for when the system collapses and money loses any value, I always retort that I hoard lead and it is always worth more than gold. :-)
As a practical matter, it really has a dual value. You can use it as barter and you can use it for its original purpose.

AB: I think they did jimmy as they allowed their baser SJW instincts to overwhelm common sense, with their refusals to cancel large public events like the Chinese new year events in February.
Oh they did f up, but so did everyone else. Remember Pelosi telling everyone to celebrate the Chinese New Year and crowd up downtown SF? I presume local officials were with her and on board. Most places shut down within a week of each other. Sure NY was 4 days after CA. I don't think it made much difference. And since I don't think the mass shutdown was the right solution anyway, it's hard to quibble.

Ha! Wallace tries to get Governor Stitt to say President Trump is wrong -- even though Wallace is trying all thru this interview to prove the governor is wrong and doesn't know what he's doing about relaxing mandates on corona restrictions in the state. If you're interested the interview starts about minute 22.30. It's sort of amusing how Stitt is smooth in evading Wallace as he the same as calls Stitt a moron and uses a Democratic mayor to prove it.

New York should have shut down the two airports in Astoria in Queens where
people from other countries were bringing in the virus.Massive mismanagement on the part of DiBlasio.
Because of his ill-fated ,ridiculous presidential run he neglected his mayoral duties to protect and prepare his city. Please wise up New Yorkers and elect a person who knows how to run the city.

sbw, Walgreens carries (carried?) 50 mg Zinc Gluconate tablets, you can get Zinc Orotate online. Both work. The gluconate is harder on my stomach, but costs much less. I noticed the B-complex now comes with C and 30 mg zinc. So pay attention to other sources re dosing. As I recall anonamom uses zinc lozenges, and Kevlar uses liquid form.

Sbw,
I get my Zinc in tablet form at GNC. 500mg a day with D3, C, potassium and quinol every morning.

sbw: I am not a doctor. :) I wouldn't advise anyone to take zinc. However, I've been taking zinc carnosine since February. I'd been diagnosed with ulcers -- and the gastroenterologist said they were less than a week from bleeding. However, the PPI he prescribed has a new warning about a bad side effect of the PPIs, clostridium difficile (which I don't want -- for good reason.)
Anyway, I didn't take the PPI. I've been taking the zinc carnosine and DGL, Deglycyrrhizinated Licorice, for the ulcers -- and the painful stomaches have abated. (I also followed the guidelines on no NSAIDs at all, plus eliminating some foods that exacerbate the pain.)
Anyway, after the news on zinc and the virus with the hydrochloroquine + antibiotic, (I realize the zinc has a trouble getting into the cells) I started my husband on a daily dose of the zinc carnosine, (didn't figure it could hurt him for a short time and might help him in some way) -- and, I wouldn't be surprised if anonamom would tell me it's futile. :)
In the past two weeks, my painful, painful stomach aches are gone.
Anyway, that's my 2 cents.

Re zinc, there are so many different kinds (gluconate, acetate, picolinate, citrate, etc.) I'm not sure which is best in terms of virus mitigation. I vaguely recall amom suggesting zinc acetate. That seems to be hardest to find, but Zicam lozenges seem to have a mix of zinc acetate and gluconate.

Examples of foods high in zinc include:
oysters, 3 ounces (oz): 74 mg.
beef patty, 3 oz: 5.3 mg.
Alaska king crab, 3 oz: 6.5 mg.
fortified breakfast cereal, 3/4 cup serving: 3.8 mg.
cooked lobster, 3 oz: 3.4 mg.
cooked pork chop loin, 3 oz: 2.9 mg.
baked beans, 1/2 cup serving: 2.9 mg.
dark meat chicken, 3 oz: 2.4 mg.

If there are no restaurants open except for T/O, then it is not surprising that meat, milk, poultry, paper products, produce, etc. fall short. Publix here is usually stocked to the point people spend hours looking at the meats and fish trying to decide what to get.
Not anymore. Was going to do my Morrocan dish using thighs. Not even on the bone were available much less the boneless. So, we are going with Mrs. JiB, Flemish dish - Fricadeau - aka Meatloaf with that distinctive nutmeg taste served with Kriek aka Cherries in syrup. They also use apple sauce from time to time.
She had so much made up, she made Bolleke's (lie meatballs) for Frederick. They are the size of golf balls and they are better than your traditional beef meatballs.

“The regular act of applied science is to introduce into labor a labor-saving device or a machine. Whether this is benefit depends on how far it is advisable to save the labor. The philosophy of applied science is generally quite sure that the saving of labor is a pure gain, and that the more of it the better. This is to assume that labor is an evil, that only the end of labor or the material product is good. On this assumption labor becomes mercenary and servile, and it is no wonder if many forms of modern labor are accepted without resentment though they are evidently brutalizing. The act of labor as one of the happy functions of human life has been in effect abandoned, and is practiced solely for its rewards.”

Used to lack of oxygen, as I said! ((Hat tip to Jack!)
Talk about confirmation bias:
"The quango should have paid more attention to how FEW smokers were in hospital in the first place. In a country where 27 per cent of adults smoke, only 6.4 per cent of the Covid-19 cases were smokers. This was NOT a fluke finding. Awkwardly for the anti-smoking lobby, smokers have been strangely under-represented in all the studies for which smoking prevalence data is available. They made up just 1.4 per cent of the cases in Zhang et al, 6.7 per cent in Wan et al, 3.9 per cent in Mo et al, seven per cent in Huang et al, nine per cent in Dong et al, 10 per cent of cases in Yang et al, 1.9 per cent in Guan et al, six per cent in Zhou et al, and 6.4 per cent in Liu et al. In Shi et al, only 8.2 per cent of cases had any smoking history."

If 13 do 50 now maybe 50 of the lynchings then were warranted.

Emmit Till’s daddy beat the hell out of his mama and a judge gave him the option of going into the army. He was later charged and tried for the brutal rape and murder of at least one Italian girl and hanged by the army.
But that’s none of my business.

Hi Miss M. There were a LOT less lynchings than people have been led to believe. Not that, that is so important, but I helped my son research it 4 or 5 years ago. Later, I went back for some reason, and the details were GONE. NOT BY ACCIDENT.
The INTERNET and SOCIAL MEDIA have been corrupted by Google and Dorsey, and Zuckerberg. Again, not by accident.

Researchers have been studying bird migration for a long time, and only fairly recently have they had the ability to attach tracking electronics to record such things as daylight hours (allowing them to determine latitudes and thereby infer locations), or even GPS location. One of the main questions is: how do the birds navigate?
Experiments on homing pigeons established that they can navigate based on the position of the sun relative to the birds' internal clocks that know the time of day, but birds often migrate at night or for days without landing, so are they watching the stars, too? There is (not gonna say "are") data that suggests that they might be able to detect direction at night by how the stars rotate relative to the birds' frames of reference.
The ability to migrate sometimes thousands of miles and find the exact spot where they were born or where they've bred over the years suggests they might have other navigational capabilities. What else can they do?
It has been known for a while that migrating birds have the ability to sense the earth's magnetic field using cells in their upper bills that contain magnetite, a magnetic mineral. Devices that counteract the magnetic field have been attached to birds to verify this. However, it was only recently discovered that light at the blue end of the spectrum interacts with a pigment called cryptochrome in the avian retina, exciting electrons which are sensed by neurons that are somehow able to detect the effect of the earth's magnetic field on the spins of these excited electrons.
So these cryptochromes may be able to give migrating birds a visual pattern inside the retina that allows them to "see" the magnetic field in addition to what they can sense from the magnetite in their bills.
I hesitate to post a pic of Spock saying "fascinating."
