Pin, thank you as always. I think, as I've told you in person, could live in CODY, and not ever FULLY RETIRE. It's a pretty cool, town/city.
I don't believe CODY, JACKSON HOLE, represent what WYOMING is all about, but it's a great place (Cody), and there is opportunity, to make a decent living, and enjoy the people of Wyoming too.
Your 3rd rate utility like the others thought precipitators would make acid rain null. Then came the NY and NE states filing lawsuits which gave entry to the scrubbers. It took almost 10 years to outfit all those midwest plants but when they did, it all went away.
You can drive through the Adirondacks today and there is no evidence of Acid Rain.
So yesterday I suggested that this Osterholm guy might be somebody Trump should consider putting on his team, even though, as Gus and others pointed out, he's a "credentialed liberal."
Well maybe Trump will put him on his commission, and perhaps that would be a smart move, but it turns out that I have been forced to tell my lovely bride that, indeed and alas, he is full of shit like all the others.
Listened to podcast #2 (March 31--3 days later than #1 which caused me to think that the guy gets it)) today while driving to pick up some fence posts, He repeated much of what he had said in the last podcast, patted himself on the back for how they had got the numbers right (as of that date) but was curiously less forthcoming about his belief that sporting events should stay open, etc. and much more gloom and doom (as Porch noted).
Nonetheless he stressed the importance of reopening the economy; he also said that obesity was identified as a key factor in CV severity and morbidity at all ages, and that there is virtually no morbidity amongst the young, and said that shutting things down simply will not work. So far so good.
The interviewer then asked the question which I would have asked myself: "Ok you have been critical of a lack of leadership and said we need to reopen the economy while taking the appropriate and necessary steps to protect our health. What is your plan?"
He then spent literally 10 minutes talking about the problems faced by heroic medical providers (all absolutely true and correct) and PPE shortages, and then said something to the effect that having daily press conferences isn't going to do it, etc. He finally came around to saying that his plan is to get all the smart people together and come up with a plan.
I am afraid that I became somewhat intemperate and said something to the effect of "You're the fucking expert, you know exactly what the problem is and what the solution is, have the fucking balls to say it!" Loser douche and coward.
My wife agreed that he hadn't really offered any solutions. She said she would listen to a more recent podcast (perhaps taking into account the much more optimistic numbers from the past few days) to see what he says.
But a profile in courage he ain't.
(heading out to pick up dinner--back in a while.)
I gotta admit that on a clear day you could see a noticeable brown tinge from the smokestacks of the Lakeshore and Eastlake plants headed east. Attractive it wasn't but I thought claims about what it was doing were wildly overblown and, even if they weren't, correctable with technology.

Coronavirus Imperative: Do No Harm
Washington needs to keep focused on specific goals and tailor its interventions to achieve them.
By Ron Johnson

America is in the midst of a national crisis that is no one’s fault. Elected and nonelected federal, state and local officials are making tough decisions and taking decisive action to limit the spread of the coronavirus. They deserve our collective support and our acceptance that results will be far from perfect.
That said, as we legislate, we must identify specific objectives and follow a basic problem-solving process: Gather information, identify and define the problem, establish achievable goals, then design solutions. We should also take the Hippocratic oath: “First, do no harm.”
I was one of only eight senators to vote against the “Phase 2” stimulus. I had identified a specific problem, but my amendment to fix it failed. As a result, the many Americans who will be laid-off will get far less from state benefits, and many employers will face a federal mandate they cannot afford. Hopefully we can fix this in Phase 3, 4 or . . . who knows? We’ve only begun.
The best way to get things right is to keep it simple. There’s a lot we don’t know, so we are forced to define problems and make decisions with limited information. So let’s start with what we know. Covid-19 is caused by a highly contagious new virus. Without mitigation, it could overwhelm health-care systems. Social-distancing strategies are essential. A vaccine probably won’t be available this fall. Existing antiviral therapies may work but are unproven. Yet social distancing is doing great harm to the economy. Sectors of the economy are shutting down and employees are being laid off. Essential services must continue to function.
Based on all this, I believe our primary goals should be these: First, limit the spread of infection and develop effective therapies and a vaccine. Second, provide financial support to idled workers. Third, provide support to viable businesses so they can survive the crisis and help rebuild the economy when it ends.
Americans know what’s being done to limit spread. An effective treatment would break the crisis almost overnight. Former Food and Drug Commissioner Scott Gottlieb has described an approach to test existing therapies, without giving placebos to a control group, to speed consensus and regulatory approval. Sen. Steve Daines has proposed funding the manufacture and stockpiling of vaccines as soon as they’re developed but before they’re approved. Once a vaccine proves safe and effective, we will then have sufficient inventory to inoculate the entire population immediately.
As for the economy, we need to acknowledge that this is a supply-side, not a demand-side, slump. Even in demand-side downturns, indiscriminately writing checks to individuals has not been effective. As good as “free money” might sound, it will do little good. Instead, federal support should be efficiently provided directly to idled workers using state unemployment systems, through forgivable loans provided to employers, or some combination thereof. Sens. Marco Rubio and Susan Collins have developed a forgivable-loan program for small businesses that is included in the initial Phase 3 legislation. Both of these concepts need to be thoroughly analyzed for feasibility and effectiveness to ensure sure we’re not spending tax dollars on what the functioning private sector can fund on its own.
Providing financial support to businesses may be the hardest dilemma. To what extent should help be targeted to essential businesses? How do we avoid creating moral hazard? Sen. Pat Toomey has suggested loans with higher interest rates. Sen. Mike Rounds has a plan to funnel assistance using insurance adjusters and something like a federal business-interruption insurance facility.
The devil will be in the details as these massive support packages are crafted and debated. But staying focused on the three goals detailed above will help ensure the massive amount of federal spending will be used as efficiently and effectively as possible.
So I've commented to crickets twice about Walmart grocery pickup. Have they been advertising? If not, they're idiots. (I don't see ads.)
I can't believe they haven't taken major market share already with this, if they haven't. Nice website, you place your order, get a pickup time, can modify the order until 1:45 AM the same day.
Later, you get an email that it's ready, acknowledge the pickup time, get told which number pickup spot to park in, go there and pop the trunk and the order is neatly placed by smiling associates (who aren't allowed to accept tips) and you're on your way.
How can this not be the ultimate way to go right now, and maybe anytime? Minimum order is $30.
[Full disclosure: I bought some of their stock this week.]
Our soon to be college grad had sewn up a paid internship for summer in St. Paul. Great money for 90 days.
It waz rescinded 3 weeks ago. He's landing on his feet. Has been admitted to the CPA track in the MBA Accountancy program at UMinn. Now he starts there this summer and graduates June 2021.
His classmates have had offers rescinded for full- time jobs or had their compensation cut.
Word on the street is major firms are retrenching while not being able to forecast convincingly about knowns unknowns etc.
The grad school angle was recommended by the firm who offered the paid internship. Package deal. He chose right!
CH, My point was that PR by the states and threatened lawsuits and EPA intervention created the scrubber solution, not actual science. The power of the complaint versus good science and engineering.
I don't know how couples with opposite political views stay together. I don't think I could do it.
My HSP was a Clinton voter before I met her, and I wasn't the least bit forceful about politics. Just gave her a view she hadn't seen before and she thought it was worth considering. Now she's one of us.
Cindyk, ask your dad if he know anyone in the Robinson tribe. My buddy Bill was prolly 10 yrs younger, but I vaguely recall him saying something about an Indian school there.
I also had an old grade school chum who’s a preacher in Gillette. Of course we worked all over WY on rail projects.
They intend to rule us past the last election we will see.

Ext, I did the Wal-Mart pickup last weekend. Overall I like it and will use it again. Instead of 20 minutes in the store I spent 5 minutes in the parking lot. My only complaint is two missing items. OTOH there were several items that were upgraded due to shortage. I will check the contents next time.

Anonamom, I know Ron Johnson, I believe my pal Henry does as well. He is a very good man. He is in his second term as Senator from Wisconsin, and comes from a successful business and manufacturing background. He is decent, honest, and is not a GUBMINT LIFER. From my experience and knowledge, and from actually sitting with him in his office in D.C., with my wife and Son, I ADMIRE and TRUST this man. He was very candid with me, and actually leaned toward me a couple of times, to express his agreements with me.
Thanks for posting that.

Newsome playing nice with Trump while threatening to be a nation state (secede) is like the little kid threatening to runaway; but, at departure time asks Mommy: "Arentcha gonna drive me?"
Lovely Miss M, The 1619 PROJECT.....hahahahahaha... NYSLIMES wants to shift blame away from CHINA........it's comical. Good grief, the NY SLIMES is NOW, the HOP SING PAPER or record. GOP lawmakers: Fauci may be doing more harm than good
Republican Reps. Andy Biggs (Ariz.) and Ken Buck (Colo.) criticized Anthony Fauci, the nation's leading infectious disease expert, for the impact of his social distancing recommendations, claiming that the stay-at-home policies informed by those recommendations have forced businesses, workers and corporations into economic turmoil.
"For Fauci, is it merely a societal or economic inconvenience that about 17 million workers are unemployed because of the government's response to the coronavirus pandemic, with many more to come in the weeks and months ahead? The economic calamity lies largely with the origination of policies resulting from Fauci's recommendations," the lawmakers wrote in an op-ed in the Washington Examiner published Saturday.
So if the Louisville mayor violated the Constitution, how big a leap is it to say that the various governors have done so by shutting down people's businesses? I believe the 5th Amendment applies to state and local government as well as to the feds.
KEV you have to dig deep, thru the lying propaganda to find the many ways that MONO, the kissing sickness can be spread. OF COURSE, AIDS IS NOT TO BE DISCUSSED HONESTLY,,,,,,
HIV can be spread through direct contact with infected blood: Through injected drugs. HIV frequently is spread among users of illegal drugs that are injected. This happens when needles or syringes contaminated with minute quantities of blood of someone infected with the virus are shared. In a health-care setting.
JimmyK, the DEMENTED and sinking fool from SCRANTON PA and elected for nearly 40 years in Delaware is merely part of the FULL COMMIE PARTIES current SCAM. There is NO WAY/ZERO WAY, that this blustering, and clearly infirm jack-ass, IS UP TO THE CHALLENGE. The DEMOTARD/FULL COMMIE PARTY, has, as I've said for years. GONE THE FULL COMMIE.
They have no morality, they have no conscience, they DO NOT CARE, about right vs wrong, in any way.
They SIMPLY CALCULATE what LIES to tell in order to sucker the MOST LIBTARD FOOLS
That’s nice D. I tend to be a private person so hard to post much. I heard rumors that the competitor down the street has closed, probably temporarily. Beautiful day here. We were very busy, but I had the day off. I suspect that if the nice weather continues and as I head into my busiest two months I will not post much. But it’s so reassuring to know there are many like-minded thinkers out there at jom.
My kids are great. The oldest is just shy of 24. She is beginning to get it. A few weeks ago she popped by and told me she was beginning to embrace all sorts of conspiracy theories. She said she was afraid her boyfriend would call his mother and tell her he is dating a Trump supporter. LOL. Anyway I am working on convincing her not to be scared. I think where I am working with people all the time it’s easier for me - plus my mid-50s age. These kids are exposed to so much propaganda it’s hard for them to truly get it. My son who has been pretty much in isolation keeps telling me I am too negative. The future nurse is the best, but she tends to see all sides and point out my shortcomings when it comes to other’s points of views. It makes me crazy!
Anyway this too shall pass. Happy Easter all. Enjoy your families. (I won’t say “Stay safe,” because if I hear that one more time I may explode.
Oh and I never used to swear much, but now I swear like a marine. Great tension reliever. The guys at the gas station next door think it’s funny! Yeah, yeah, yeah. Time for another tension relieving cocktail. Stay safe!!! Blahh
GUS, I recall that very well. Not only did the health authorities not shut down the SF bath houses which were a known vector for the spread of the disease, but they let people think that heterosexual transmission was as big a problem at heterosexual.
Jimmy, the UNCONSTITUTIONAL POWER GRAB, is what happens, when ONE LEVEL of GOVT. decides it can VIOLATE the RULES OF AMERICA, because....ORANGE MAN BAD. The UNITED STATES CONSTITUTION, supercedes ALL OTHER LAWS, and STATE STATUTES or STATE CONSTITUTIONAL LAWS .......PERIOD.
There are no exceptions. Black people are allowed to VOTE. Wymyn may vote as well. You may express yourself, and you may move about the nation as you see fit. EMERGENCIES or PROCLAIMED EMERGENCIES, do not increase nor enhance the POWERS of GOVERNMENT. Unfortunately MOST AMERICANS, and specifically LIBTARD/FULL COMMIES, have no idea nor concept of the CONSTITUTION.
I remember when the news about AIDS first broke in the early 80's. Prisons are loaded with junkies and bloody fights are common. We were told we have no right to know who had it or who didn't.
When the cons would go to chow, they would line up at the infirmary door to get their meds before entering the chow hall. So one day I asked the nurse if she would show me what an AZT capsule looks like. She did, a blue and white capsule. A few days later, I gave an inmate his meds because he was locked up and couldn't go to the med line and noticed that blue and white capsule so I asked Helter Skelter (tattoo on his neck) if he had AIDS and he told me he did. He was the very first person I knew that had it. But yeah, we had no right to know!
(We would pass out the meds for those who were locked in for disciplinary reasons which was totally illegal, but we did. A stack of paper med cups with cell #'s written on the bottom and a rubber band holding them together.)
One more post then putting this iPad away. Rocco, how are the Hudson hardware relatives doing? Are they open as usual, or just doing curbside? Just curious.
Old Lurker, I know four people with this virus. Two are married. He is a surgeon. She in late 50’s spent a few days in the hospital for respiratory issues. One in a mid-50’s customer who is at home. One is a 90 year old who was on no medications prior to this. He is a tough man and will have a long slog at home, but I don’t think this will do him in. I have many customers who own boatyards and the like. Some have closed for two weeks as a few employees had it. Nothing terrible so far.
Yes, Clarice, as I read a contemporary story about AIDS, it's importance and causes, HOMOSEXUAL MALE SEX, was strangely missing from the OPEN HONEST and FAIR.....MFM discussion.
I'm not harping on gay male sex, I'm pointing out the BIAS and the LIBERAL INTRINSIC inability to be HONEST. Anyone who believes the MFM, is not completely biased, needs to ask themself, WHY, all of the ANCHORS and REPORTERS are ALL FULL COMMIE LIBS.
Jimmyk, Lil FREDO's big brother ANDY, apparently has nipple rings, or so I am told. He also has a face that looks like my High School baseball mitt.
He is a HACK, but then again, I've learned that EVERY SINGLE DEMOTARD/FULL COMMIE alive, is a HACK.
Lyle, they didn't LET people think that heterosexuals were as likely to get AIDS, they purposely sold HORSE SHIT, in order to PROTECT, Gay men from being seen as the most likely self inflicted victims. Who did that serve in any way
State radio's mantra in the 90s was "the increasingly heterosexual AIDS problem". I thought "keep going with that, Junior, and we'll see what happens".
Rich, you still looking for greener pastures? Getting interviews cancelled or anything?

ABob: saw your post re hires and interns.

Ok Jack, but are you also saying
A. There was no problem but the states shoved a horrible non solution up the utilities's keisters sans lube?
B. There was a small problem that the utilities's engineers could have resolved better if not for the ambulance chasers?
C. There was a major problem that the ambulance chasers imposed a terrible solution for?
Or something else?

GOP lawmakers: Fauci may be doing more harm than good
Republican Reps. Andy Biggs (Ariz.) and Ken Buck (Colo.) criticized Anthony Fauci, the nation's leading infectious disease expert, for the impact of his social distancing recommendations, claiming that the stay-at-home policies informed by those recommendations have forced businesses, workers and corporations into economic turmoil."For Fauci, is it merely a societal or economic inconvenience that about 17 million workers are unemployed because of the government's response to the coronavirus pandemic, with many more to come in the weeks and months ahead? The economic calamity lies largely with the origination of policies resulting from Fauci's recommendations," the lawmakers wrote in an op-ed in the Washington Examiner published Saturday.

Blahh

Goodnight all. Happy Easter
