Alone in my room....

Prince Charles is said to have gotten rave reviews for his reading of an excerpt from Tintern Abbey. He almost put me to sleep, but maybe that's just me.

JM Hanes

Andrea Bocelli will be streaming live from the Milan Catherdral on Easter. He'll be singing to an empty church, which should really be something!

I'm sitting here with a bunch of lilacs I cut this afternoon, and the whole room smells heavenly. When I was working outside, they perfumed the whole yard. I remember walking to school as a child in Massachusetts, pulling lilac blossoms off the sidewalk shrubs and sucking out the tiniest little bit of sweet nectar.

JM Hanes

Went to the kitchen to refresh my drink, and it smells like... onions. Quite a contrast.

henry

NBA should finish out their season in China. Their owners have defeated Kung Flu per WHO and the media.

DrJ

Our lilacs are in bloom too, JMH. Even the 5" of rain we've had over the past few days haven't discouraged them. I love their scent.

JM Hanes

I was wondering when someone would end my isolation!

No lilacs here, but a hint of green has popped in. Was 72 today. Nice to be without a coat and gloves.

Up to 75 today, but we are supposed to get strong storms with hail tonight.

DrJ:

They were like a special lockdown gift this year, because they don't normally bloom quite this early.

I just heard that France has outlawed outdoor exercise. The world is truly going insane or will be soon with orders like that.

John Prine dead. Damn.

My neighbor had his manure spreader out, so aromas were a bit rustic. A bit of garlic, ginger, and sage in the kitchen made up for it.

DrJ

My neighbor had his manure spreader out, so aromas were a bit rustic.

I know what you mean. I used to live downwind of a cow pasture, and the cows used to love the bamboo on the property. We too had a lot of rustic smells.

I got used to it.

While museums around the globe are closed to the public, we are spotlighting each day an inspiring exhibition that was previously on view. Even if you can’t see it in person, allow us to give you a virtual look.
Today it's "An Exhibition of Masterful Drawings by Raphael Highlights His Enormous Influence on Those Who Followed in His Footsteps." It's interesting to realize how widely he was copied. If you're at a loss for things to do, try the National Gallery's 3-D Tour of the exhibition. It's a real time waster, but zooming in and out and around is not entirely without entertainment value.

I think people need to see this for what it is: this is a very important voice in the news discussing the best way to censor the news.

She’s relaxed enough to discuss censoring what news you will receive, so much so, that she’s tweeting about it to no one in particular.
==================================
And here's the tweet that she is commenting on:

@maggieNYT

There's a big debate going on among folks about whether cable should be airing Trump briefings. Okay. But if you're running the beginning of the briefing, why cut away from Pence and the actual health officials?

jimmyk,

I start my reading here from where I left off the previous night, I see all the daytime comments.

I've been tracking the total case numbers for over a month and have them written down. I thought about calculating the deaths and recoveries %change rate but can't find a decent time series that will let me go backwards to a starting point. Right now that's looking like null project.

Like you I also look at covidtracking to get an idea of what is going on in the separate states. As you've noticed the disparities in state's reporting makes it less than useful for comparisons or collective totals.

Captain Hate

Like I said, DJT has broken them all and they're too stupid to know it.

During my very essential travels through the green hills and snow capped peaks of my hunkering neck of the woods [what's a neck of a woods anyway?], eyeballing the gamboling deer and the contented cudsters and the jolly bats playing horseshoes, it's kind of funny to consider the natural world has not the slightest clue nor care that most of humanity is freaking out over an invisible thing that isn't really even alive by a lot of standards.

Well at the rate the NBA is going, I'd say that in mid May they'll simply write the season off.

Of course Ezekiel Emanuel (Rahm's idiot brother and the architect of Obamacare) suggest that the US should go into total lockdown for another 18 months. That's the ticket. You may as well nuke the US economy--it wouldn't hurt it any worse than that.

Masks For Thee, Not For Me

Democrats are in a tizzy because President Trump, while noting a recommendation that we all wear face masks when going out in public–a reversal of the original government claim that masks do no good–said that he probably wouldn’t wear one himself. The Democratic Party blowback has been immense.

So may we assume that these two [manly Bret Stephens and manlier Gail Collins] ARE wearing masks? There was a discussion of Stephens riding his bike for miles through Manhattan…was he wearing a mask then? I want to know specifically. And I want to know specifically about ALL Times reporters, columnists and managers, and the Sulzbergers — specifically. Are they wearing masks? And, by the way, did the Sulzbergers flee to their Southampton estate or stay in NYC?

Are they asking Nancy, Chuckles, Cuomo, AOC, Nadler as well others in the chattering class to “lead by example” and wear masks?
