We're into the sixth month or so of this virus being loose and as far as I can tell we have no more idea now than in January what policies work or don't and what the numbers mean or even are.
All we do know is progs are childish, submissive, petty little snitch-turds and normal people are growing increasingly restless and angry.
And that China is every bit as evil and aggressive as the Soviet Union ever was, has a lot more money and just like the USSR, progs will always make excuses for it at the West's expense.
But don't ever tell em they're commie-symps.

I’ve been wondering this for awhile: Is the covid 1-2 punch something like Reyes Syndrome, but with elderly people rather than kids?
https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/reyes-syndrome/symptoms-causes/syc-20377255
All along I’ve had this nagging feeling that we are seeing two separate things here. The first is a disease caused by a virus and the disease itself is trivial. Then there is something else which is only indirectly caused by the virus that comes as a second wave and kills the patient who is recovering from the virus. In Reyes, the chain of causation is that a viral infection caused fever, which is treated with a fever reducer — in this case aspirin. It’s the aspirin that interacts with the virus and causes a cascade that kills the patient. The solution is to use another fever-reducing drug and avoid the problem.
We’ve got all sorts of groups — children, pregnant women, homeless people, smokers, prisoners — who get the trivial thing, but not the deadly follow on. Just look at the bizarreness off that collection! What the heck protects those people but not hypertensive obese diabetics?

rse: "As I keep warning, the answer to these planners for the collective is getting at people at the level of their belief systems."
You've convinced me -- and, as you and others have said, it's been going on in our universities for a long time.
A 'friend' on facebook posted a question yesterday asking her friends if they were confident enoughh to resume normal activities. I read about four or five "No's", one or two huge and decorated :) with colors and squiggles.
I couldn't believe it and wrote: "Yes, I feel confident it is safe to return to normal activities. I grew up in the age of polio. There was no vaccine. People died from it. People were put in iron lungs in the hospital. People ended up crippled -- I can't think of another word, and hope not to offend using that term, but that is what happened. Schools didn't close -- and it was a killer for children. One boy in my class died from it -- the teacher moved children from that row and we sat double in desks for awhile. Every year people die from the flu. Think about that for awhile. And, remember, the USA flattened the curve as we were asked to do -- now younger people should get to open their businesses, go to work, get this economy running again. If you're worried, wear a mask, wash your hands, don't touch your face, but this economy, the world's economy needs to reopen."
One woman took issue with my comment on flu, she said something about 60,000 deaths in six weeks showed this wasn't the flu. After that there were 20 plus more -- all no or nope.
As I type this I'm shaking my head -- I can understand not wanting to catch the virus, but being this scared ???? Defeats me.
Also, yesterday I saw a picture in the newspaper. The 'rest and rehab' nursing home had lined up patients who had 'graduated' from the CoVid wing of the home. Outside along one of the sidewalks. All smiling. In the sunshine. Some in wheelchairs, others sitting in chairs.
And, those silly, scared upper-class* bitches on facebook afraid to resume normal.
*I recognized most of their names and know them well.

This is kind of interesting
https://www.ocregister.com/2020/05/04/newport-beach-councilman-sues-gov-newsom-in-federal-court-to-reopen-orange-countys-beaches/
Maybe a little inside baseball, but Kevin Muldoon is Councilman for the 4th District. the 4th is an 'inside' district that includes Newport Center/Fashion Island. Newport Center is the financial district, Fashion Island is the destination shopping center. This complex includes several high-end hotels; Marriott, Hyatt , et al. They are hurting. They are open, but mostly empty, at a time when they should be full. Same for the high-end retail.
Meaning that this is not a stunt lawsuit. Serious people with deep pockets are behind it. Having a Councilman to front for them says the City is behind it also. Interesting times.

Still baby steps but the tech elite is being put on notice, I think.
Mrs NorCal heard from her CEO via email (a large Silicon Valley firm), the company will
1) reduce pay for CEO and exec staff
2) no promotions
3) no raises
4) twice annual bonus will go to single (iow, skip the upcoming bonus)
5) no 401K match for the quarter
We also received an informal newsletter from a friend that said Uber, AirBnB, Lyft and others are starting cutbacks at the Corp offices. First contractors, then interns with no layoffs of permanent employees (yet).
The elites won't willingly open the economy until the privileged (for example, high tech) and government workers start to see painful layoffs so I'd say we are starting to get closer.

henry: "At some point interest rates will be non zero, what do all those “profit doesn’t matter” tech firms do then?
Well, if you're talking about the myriad of tiny startups--they're inconsequential, IMO. They attract risk-takers, etc. and there is an expectation that the company can crater.
When there are layoffs at Microsoft, Apple, Google, Intel, Cisco, HP ... then take notice. Those companies might be perceived as being full of young and hip employees but those firms also include a ton of people with mortgages, luxury car payments, college and private school tuitions to pay, even medical conditions which make Big Corp health coverage imperative.

Can any of you NCers (Charlotte specifically) clue me in on what the rules are for tyrannical lockdowns and what is opening back up. I want to take Ariel to see K and if there isn't anything open... Do you want an almost 3 year old stuck in a hotel room with you for 48 hours???

Jim, I was thinking of newer unicorns- say Workday or Salesforce ilk.

Henry quotes: "Wisconsin Supreme Court asks @GovEvers' administration if there is any limit on @DHSWI's power in a health emergency. Colin Roth says according to state law, it can do whatever it takes to control the outbreak."
States can pass any laws they can get through, any time they like. Big whup.
But not a single law they pass can remove the protection that every citizen in every state has from the Constitution as amended and the Bill of Rights.
Otherwise some states would be slave states, some states might deny women the right to vote, some state might ban newspapers and churches (OK, keep the churches, ban the synagogues...), some states could take away all private property without justification or compensation.
We could go on.

D.D.T. did a job on me
Now I am a real sickie
Guess I'll have to break the news
That I got no mind to lose
All the girls are in love with me
I'm a teenage lobotomy, yeah

"Jim, I was thinking of newer unicorns- say Workday or Salesforce ilk."
I'd still say that their severe challenges or even outright demise would not cause the Powers That Be to budge. These firms, though substantial, don't have the clout.
But that's just a personal judgment, I could be wrong.

Crime fighters' "Broken Window Theory" would suggest that not reacting when a state flouts, say, immigration laws, to name one, that would lead to disregarding even more requirements of the Constitution and Federal Laws.
Did not take long to get where we are.

Though I have to say, having the opportunity of saying "Hey Workday, hey Salesforce! You guys are fluff" ... well, that's kind of a nice-to-have all on its own.

Seems like those WI justices are asking the right questions. This could be a landmark case if the rule against Evers and it gets appealed to the SC, which crushes the tyrants in one fell swoop.

Can't count on Roberts, though. He doesn't like to make big waves.

Steph-
I will ask one of my current housemates who works with people there to find out for you.

Big Mike v Trump in the debates, I can see the MSM headlines now: Trump's inherent disrespect for women of color plainly visible as he seethes and lashes out against Princeton graduate. Who would be Big Mike's running mate, Sargent Shriver.
Speaking of the Kennedy era, this is the 59th anniversary of Alan Shephard's sub-orbital flight into space. 115 miles up, 300 miles laterally.

I might have missed discussion here, but apparently the CDC put out some kind of "sky is falling" report that we're going to have a big resurgence, with 200,000 dead by July 1 or something. Where do they get this from? I just hope when (in all likelihood) the spread fizzles out in the next few weeks the CDC is held accountable for this. They're just providing chum for the blue state guvs to extend their lockdowns.

I don't think Big Mike wants to expose how stupid and uninformed she is by running for any public office higher than dog catcher.

And why not? They’re still getting paid. As for “accountability,” well...
