No one can figure out who has the authority to release personnel records related to Biden's office and Tara Reade. DC is now a multi clown-car pile-up.

What I found interesting today shopping at Publix was all baking items like flour, sugar, salt, corn meal, were either gon or in short supply.
Didn’t need any to make my Morrocan Chicken Thighs with lemons, olives, and figs. Superb. Te sauce it cooked ad baked I was excellent.

I haven’t been able to read much JOM in the last couple of weeks, so I apologize if someone has already posted a link to Mark Helprin’s National Review piece about how our government has failed us since the end of the Cold War, by refusing to plan for and confront various existential threats. My guess is that he somewhat overstates our weaknesses, but is directionally correct about our self-delusions and inadequate preparations and actions. https://www.nationalreview.com/magazine/2020/05/04/american-foreign-and-defense-policy-between-scylla-and-charybdis/

Does it surprise you? They are probably packed in there (pun intended) for long hours and sharing all the other facilities too - break rooms, etc.
Low temps are likely a factor.

Foe example, why is flour supply thin? The manufacture of it is almost entirely automated.

AB, I can't decide. Stores don't always have huge supplies of certain items (like flour and sugar) because they take up a lot of room and in normal times don't move ridiculously fast because people take awhile to move through their existing home supplies. And/or people have "heard there's a shortage" and therefore people stock up.
But, there's also something weird going on. The media narrative about food supply disruptions is sort of a newish offshoot of the existing apocalypse narrative, designed to roll out as soon as the other shortage worries begin to subside. Notice it started bubbling up as soon as the PPE shortage started to ease.

A-B, the problem was largely solved. We went above the head of the local manager I believe. The problem was really widespread and growing worse, and complaints to the local post office went unheard (that manager was never there and was an executive mess.)
QT prolongation is common with certain psychiatric drugs and a psychiatrist friend of mine says they are used to treating it. No biggie.
As for the executive order, it was necessary to get the PPE supplies up and keep the trucks carrying food and essentials moving. I don't blame him one bit. Pence has announced he anticipates his committee will close shop by the end of the month and I expect the emergency EO will end then if not sooner.

Health care workers that came to New York to help fight the coronavirus pandemic at its epicenter will have to pay state taxes, according to the governor.
He addressed the issues Tuesday at a news conference.
"We're not in a position to provide any subsidies right now because we have a $13 billion deficit," Gov. Andrew Cuomo said. "So there's a lot of good things I'd like to do, and if we get federal funding, we can do, but it would be irresponsible for me to sit here looking at a $13 billion deficit and say I'm gonna spend more money, when I can't even pay the essential services."

"The state of Maine has a population of 1.3 million and has experienced 52 deaths (from the coronavirus, or 0.004%). Yet Governor Janet Mills (D) has extended the lockdown until June 1. As of the end of January 2020, the state was facing a $525-million shortfall with no solution in sight — until the coronavirus pandemic and a potential bailout from the federal government. The longer the state is locked down, the greater the revenue losses and the more money Mrs. Mills can demand from Washington.
California, with a population of 38 million, has recorded 1,944 deaths, or 0.005%. Its pension and general obligations are overwhelming and were so long before the coronavirus. The same is true for Illinois, New Jersey, New York, and Connecticut among other states — all of whom are extending their lockdowns through the end of May.
The Wuhan Virus pandemic and the nation’s reaction to it have given many states a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to siphon money from a federal government that has cast all caution to the wind and is printing money as fast as the presses can operate."

Got the usual Tuesday bump in deaths, 2,527, higher than last Tuesday. The 7-day moving average has been basically flat for the last week, after looking like it was starting to edge down. But I'm trusting the data less and less given the incentive to report every cause of death as COVID.
Even so, NY numbers are still plummeting. 7-day deaths are at 2,000, vs 5,300 3 weeks ago. But Cuomo going to keep his boot on us because he's enjoying the ride.

Here's an interesting discussion that MIGHT offer an explanation for the different responses to the infection:
https://thezvi.wordpress.com/2020/04/01/taking-initial-viral-load-seriously/
It seems to match what I have been seeing. I'm in Uinta county, WY (the SW corner of the state.)we've only had six confirmed (and one probable) cases of COVID-19 in a county of ~20,000 people.
I'm NOT an MD. I'm a retired mining engineer who actually worked in chemical process development for much of my career. Like a lot of you at this site I'm used to analyzing data and looking for "messages" contained within it.
The thing about the virus that had puzzled me at first was that we've never seen an increase in the rate of confirmed cases. They've been showing up one a time, not in clusters. That didn't make sense IF the virus was as infectious as most were claiming. Our first case showed up a week or two after the national "lockdown." Since people had known about the virus before that I couldn't understand why those first cases hadn't been followed by clusters of cases.
My half-developed theory was that for most people if you receive a "dose" of the virus you system just takes in in stride. Your immune system does its job and you never develop severe symptoms. I suspect that if we had antibody testing we'd find that a lot of us have already been infected and not experienced any problem.
That concept is consistent with runaway infections in NYC, and in many nursing homes. I suspect that in those cases people were receiving multiple "doses" of the virus and as a result their immune systems were overwhelmed before they could build a defense.
I don't know the status of testing here in Uinta County, but I do know that the drive-thru test center has had steady but limited traffic for the past month. Of course we're only testing people who think they have a problem.
While we're quite a rural county, we're do have plenty of contact with the "outside world" since we're on I-80 and the Union Pacific mainline. We do have some train crews based here in Evanston so there are plenty of opportunities for "outsiders" to bring in the virus, but most of those contacts would be fleeting so any "doses" of infectious material would tend to be light.
Enough rambling, but I'm interested in any thoughts others may have.

TDS or Trump Derangement Syndrome brings out the worst in a lot of people. One young Texan girl’s story of her intolerant parents who refuse to attend her wedding because she’s marrying a conservative, however, is a new low.
Lawyer and conservative civil rights activist, Rogan O’Handley tweeted a Tik Tok video of a Texan girl, who in a heartfelt video message, explains that her liberal parents said they won’t attend her wedding because her fiancee is a conservative. Hogan tweeted: “She’s now looking for someone to walk her down the aisle.” O Handley told his followers to RT (retweet) if they think it should be a Trump doing the honors!!
The tweet caught the attention of Donald Trump Jr. who, after watching the video, responded with a tweet, saying, “Really sad and touching at the same time. Good for her for standing up to the nonsense. ”
Trump Jr. added, “If she doesn’t find someone better, count me in.” Trump Jr. ended his tweet by offering to walk her down the aisle, adding, “Lmk” or (Let me know).

Getting rid of poison ivy? You need brush killer. Any brand, but probs the best is Ortho. It will kill everything, and there is no getting around that. Wrap yourself up in ppe like you want to avoid a giant body rash and then wash with any brand of poison ivy soap. And keep it up for a bit. Hmm. Sounds like wu flu strategy. That’s my helpful hardware tip.
Yes - in Mass the mask requirement starts - indoors and out. I have already ranted about this for days. I will open my store at 7:30 am. We have not changed hours or marked our floors, or hung plexiglass barriers. We are all healthy. We have a social distancing broom pole, which we have barely used, and will be a permanent part for us women going forward. We should have had it years ago! More of a creepy perv protector pole!
My mask for me, my employees, and for my co-owner brother is a very thin home sewed one. We will “comply” wearing it under the chin and claiming ignorance that we forgot to pull it back up after hauling top soil or speaking on the phone. I would love to resist, but we need to live. We are a small store. All are on board. No worries about liabilities.
Regarding flour shortages - that Karen post is unbelievable. I still can’t understand that it’s not sarcasm. Having said that when this mess started I tried to buy flour to make bread - all gone. Yeast -all gone. I have both now. Also not so worried so not baking bread. Having a hardware store though shows me how the supply lines are completely messed up. All warehouses are open, but I think there’s a combo of employees out with the virus and those who left for the unemployment bonus. My rep tells me the execs are picking warehouse items. We are receiving stock, and a lot of it. But some is stuff we never ordered. Some shows in-stock at warehouse, and we don’t receive. It’s all been backed up. It’s fine, but indicative of the complete national mess going on. And the delivery days are all out of whack. Common carriers are delivering a lot of it, and the UPS guy is totally pissed off ( leading indicator - this man never swore and was always polite. Swearing and pissed off and declaring this is a political hit job). Hmmm

There was a run where you were adding some detail fragments, narciso, that would possibly encourage me to even click your links that lack descriptions in their address.
I haven’t clicked anything that I don’t recognize the link or have some clue as to what I am going to open.

That Texas chick may be mad at her folks but I doubt she wants their heads to explode.
