One big trial of hydroxychloroquine with and without azithromycin came up empty.
If Trump is willing to settle for a lay-up rather than a Hail Mary, he should talk up Vitamin D. Its cheap, safe, probably more than half of us have low-ish serum levels of D, and Vitamin D is already a standard recommendation for good health even if it does not specifically help with COVID-19.
Lots here.
But Holtgrave stressed that the study only analyzed hospitalized patients who were already severely ill
Um, yep. But it gave Politico another chance to trash the prez.

I thoughtTM had a hole in his sock and was not allowed to purchase new socks under CT lockdown. Then I read his post. Where is the zinc? Hydroxychloroquine is the coyote that gets zinc in the cell. No zinc, of course the coyote twiddles its thumbs. You would think the CDC knew some basic cell biology, but Chinese cash says otherwise.

Skimming through the study that is mentioned in TM’s Politico link stands out:

In other words, we gave the sickest of the sick the treatment and then compared results to an unrelated group of patients.

Unless I'm mistaken, which is often enough, it was 18 days later on the 24th when Comey sent his goons to the WH to entrap Flynn. Yates waited until Comey had already sent those goons to tell him she was going to inform the WH that Flynn was leveraged. Comey told her you're too late.

The studies are the studies. There are quite a number of them going on right now, so eventually we will have a good database by which we can analyze the efficacy of not just aquarium cleaner and hydroxychloroquine, but other drugs as well. All of this will pretty much be ex post fat, so maybe we will learn something for the next time.
What does interest me is that these tests were done not as prophylactic, but as treatment. It seems that once the Wuhan Virus manifests itself in serious cases it is a bear to control. The mortality rate on ventilators is very high, but those are also the most extreme cases.
So how do we contain the spread of the virus? Securing nursing homes is at the top of the list as is protecting those most vulnerable not in those homes.
I am not sure about all of the supposed aftereffects either. We will need to see more data.
At east widespread antibody testing will give us a map of if and how the virus has been transmitted both person to person and across the general population.
65% of the cases are along the Acela Corridor. There I a hot spot in Detroit, and California has a number of factors that have contributed to the spread of the disease. LA and Riverside counties have been particularly affected. Palm Springs in in Riverside, and now they are icovering bodies in homes who never made it to treatment.
I was in LA the other day. I drove from Santa Monica down Wilshire through at least half a dozen different neighborhoods. What I saw were large numbers of homeless in their own ragtag encampments of a few to several people. They are afraid of going into the shelters.
But so far we have not seen the large numbers of infections. Some are in hotel rooms, but most are still on the street.
The expected outcomes have not come true to a large degree.

Even if it was a massive setup he was still a terrible FBI director in view of how badly the performance dropped.
CH,
You have to play the hand you are dealt. Aside from the FBI Director position AFAIK all the other FBI senior management positions are federal civil servants. It’s not Comey or any FBI Director’s fault if they inherit corrupt civil servants. If you review all the Spygate facts that have been made public there is a consistent record of Comey being opposed to Brennan, Clapper, Yates and McCabe. We can only speculate why Comey was at odds with all of them. All of these pre-firing dots don’t connect with all of Comey’s anti-Trump comments after he got fired. Comey is either a master of kabuki or he has gone insane with guilt knowing his part in the Obama criminal cabal is going to get disclosed.
I would still like to know who informed Trump the White House was bugged.

Edgar Hoover, despite all the Soviet disinformation that was thrown at his personal life which far too many gullible people fell for and believe as fact, ran a tight ship; he was, however, overly power mad which was problematic in a Constitutional Republic no matter how well he did his job. https://nypost.com/2020/05/10/cuomos-nursing-home-reversal-is-too-little-too-late-goodwin/
Gov. Cuomo will never be confused with Fiorello La Guardia. “When I make a mistake, it’s a beaut,” the legendary mayor of New York once confessed.
Unfortunately, Cuomo’s pride and political calculations don’t allow him to admit error even as he finally reverses one of the mostly deadly policy mistakes in New York history.
Nursing homes and rehabilitation centers have tallied more than 5,000 coronavirus deaths, yet the governor accepts zero responsibility despite his March 25th order forcing them to take infected patients from hospitals.
Indeed, the initial order denied nursing homes the right even to ask if patients being sent by hospitals had tested positive for the coronavirus.
Now hospitals must do discharge tests and only those who are negative can be referred to nursing homes.
Said one nursing home executive, “It feels at least a month too late.”

Everything Cuomo has done has been overly bureaucratic. Too many people creating rules without considering the consequences.
The nursing home guidance was probably the worst single poor move out of many others. Even the re-opening guidance is overly complex with seven required conditions. And the implied threat of revoking those openings if he feels like it.

So you're saying the FBI Director is just a passive recipient of being stuck with those beneath him. Sorry, I don't buy it.
I am extremely familiar with how the federal civil service bureaucracy works in the DoD. I don’t think there is much difference in the HR policies between the DoD and DOJ. All federal agencies function under the same policies. High ranking federal civil servants have the highest job security of possibly any profession. They can not lose their jobs unless they commit a felony or they violate equal opportunity policy, sexual harassment etc. You give me the impression you think Comey could have replaced the senior management he inherited and replaced them with his own hires. The federal civil service bureaucracy doesn’t operate like that.

Three regions of New York will start opening Friday. While the closures can, theoretically, be re-imposed, I doubt that will happen. I can't imagine people willingly going along with that.
I still think the idea of having a minimum number of tracers as part of the opening is silly. Tracer might work in small communities, but I doubt that they would work well in larger ones.
And if you can trace all possible contacts, how do you get them all to submit to testing if they refuse? What police power will the tracers have? I mean testing is an invasive procedure and taking it might, in a sense, incriminate you. What court would allow such a thing?

If you were going to relabel a “Community Organizer”, what would you name it next?

MM,
Thanks for posting the link to the police week proclamation.
I was supposed to be in DC with my Chief for police week, but the Rona got in the way. Missed a good chance at a JOM meet up.

On the thread topic, I had already commented when the report first came out: The word "zinc" does not appear in the story, so I presume it was not part of the study. And the patients were already hospitalized, so presumably already in bad shape.
A study doomed to fail, because Orange Man Bad is more important than saving lives.

Super informative discussion of the MLB serological test recently completed. (Major league baseball).
Sadly, hardly anybody in the MLB office has antibodies.
So, that argues we'll get a flare up if shutdown is ended. In my mind, we've reached or gone past the point where reopening will cost fewer lives than continuing to hunker down.
But it will be much harder for courageous politicians to fight against the Army of Karens if the first result of ending Shutdown is a spike of deaths.
Anyway, watch this if you can, very educational, about 55 minutes.
