I am making my first jam ever, after 25 years of thinking about it. It's loquat, from my Trump-loving neighbors' tree. With lemon. Soft-set, no pectin, lower sugar.
About to pour into pint glasses. Wish me luck.

I eyeballed about six cups of cut fruit to get started, scant 2 cups sugar, plus juice of one medium lemon and got a perfect quart of finished jam.
Feels pretty good when it measures out like that.

jim cali:
here's what they tell me is the link:
https://i.postimg.cc/DwVm5zdp/scissor-tailedflycatcherflight-1.jpg created to post.
I've tried what henry said, but evidently there is something I'm missing. Like I'm to add quotation marks on each side of url.
Questions arise: does the image url begin with the https, etc., or does it begin after the // and, again do the sideways carats (can't think of their correct name) go before or after the " marks on each end.
img src="your url here" with < just before the image, and I assume after.
clarice, in answer to why don't I just post the links -- I have, time and time again. Very seldom does anyone mention them. Perhaps it's not important, but sometimes the images are so beautiful, I want to see them. Also, I am totally self taught -- I'm going to be 79 in a few weeks. I took a couple of computer classes the first time we came back to the States in the late 80's. I dropped out when I had to learn exponentiation -- my math stopped at Geometry in high school, plus accounting in college, which is not math. I have taught myself so much, as far as using programs, etc., with most of the time, the right side of my brain, not the left. I like to think of it as creative thinking. I've made book covers, learned about book design, book layout (and it's a bit more complicated than it sounds, like, for instance, you never have blank right hand pages, it's a no-no. :)
So, it's frustrating to me not to be able to post a simple image on a web site. Though, I did post my youtube of me singing to my 13 year old granddaughter, when this corona thing started, which is a different thing entirely. Anyway, I realize jom is not a craft blog or a camp town meeting place, it's a political blog or site. But I do enjoy the images and political cartoons that people post, and I wanted to be able to do it. Very frustrating not to be able to execute fairly simple instructions.
Besides that, the picture of that scissortail flycatcher is beautiful. There have been times during this frustrating quarantine period, I simply wanted to share some beauty and grace.

Melinda, Ext -
This is refrigerator jam. Since it's lower in sugar I didn't want to take a chance with processing since I don't know what I'm doing. So it's just in sturdy Ball pint jars with lids. Will go in the fridge when it cools and then the extra jars will be in the freezer until needed.
The no pectin is sort of a thing with some people. I have no problem with pectin, but I didn't want to bother with it. There is some natural pectin in the fruit, especially if you include some slightly green fruit, and the lemon juice helps with the gel, but it will likely be soft-set. That's okay.
The only people I know who would be interested in loquat jam have already made their own, so we'll see if I can give some away. But it is pretty good if I do say so myself. Looks and tastes much like apricot, but a little darker in color and softer and more subtle.
I made some loquat syrup on the side to go into drinks, Jack. :)

Yes, you could make a shrub from it, peter, I think.
It is an interesting fruit. Native to CHYNA, I'm sure that's not a coincidence since I will be forever be thinking about ping pong cough each year when I pick the fruit.
It looks and tastes like an apricot and is grown as a dooryard ornamental because it is evergreen.
I love the look of the trees, even when not in bloom or fruit. I would like to plant one to eventually replace our aging peach that's been threatening to kick the bucket for 18 years.

A friend:
It's our 10th Anniversary. I've been sick and high risk for a LONG time. My amazing husband planned a sweet dinner at our favorite steakhouse (Flemings) in the parking lot. Unfortunately, the weather was not on our side. It was too cold. When he politely declined to the GM and explained my medical situation, the GM opened the dining room to us. They rolled out the red carpet, champagne toast and all. Everything was perfect. The wine, dinner, it was even amazing to see some people (employees at a distance)...all amazing. The atmosphere was exactly on point, the food was superb, the service was above and beyond. At the end of the evening they surprised us by gifting our experience... because they were so happy to have customers. Be still, my heart. After a cry fest and long talk with the corporate and local management teams, we left feeling blessed in more ways than anticipated. Flemings now has lifelong patrons, advocates, and friends. I couldn't be more grateful for tonight's unique celebration. Our 10th anniversary will definitely have the best story!

The broker has kept in touch but said things were too unsettled.

My understanding is that lenders are not eager to lend since renters have been given carte blanche to hold onto their money and not pay rent. If we're not paid, they worry we won't pay them!

You should see the pic of the multi carat ring she posted along with the story. Emerald shaped 2-3 carats diamond easy.
I have a friend who has a 4+ carat pear shaped ring that she actually plays golf while wearing. Yep, she swung one day and was all 'my ring!!!' and we spent the next few hours searching two different holes and spots where she hit from and found it, but damned if she doesn't still wear it and her 2 ct diamond earrings on the golf course still. I never wear any jewelry on the course.

Will do Henry!
I had actually thought about addressing the issue myself. That was the swamp that my neighbor created on the back, west side of the house.
On the east side of the house is a detached garage with a MIL suite on a second floor. About 50 or 60 feet away. It's my refuge and refer to it as the 'Bub Club'.
A small, though deep, hole opened in the ground between the buildings a couple of months ago.
You could drop a broom in it (I did...) and it got swallowed.
There is a underground drain system back there that should take out the water.
Clearly not...
It's been a thing for awhile as I tried to dig it out with a shovel a couple of years and thought I got it.
Clearly not...
Beacause of that, we bit the bullet and decided that we'd hire pro's. SigOther is rolling in inheritance so why not.
They brought in a backhoe and front end loader, dug the whole thing out, fixed the underground pipes, attached and buried the downspouts from the house and garage to it.
In one day.
It's done.
They said that it'll take longer on the westside, the orininal issue.
They brought in truckloads of dirt and are grading it out so everything behind the house runs down into the new french drain and into a new pipe out to the street.
He then said something like 'it'll take 12 truck loads of dirt to get the rest of your west side yard to drop the rainfall into the french drain.'
I said 'Shit!'
He said 'I can build a berm and grade that out about 10 or 12 inches along your property line with 2 truckloads and gravity will drop it back on that guys property right about there.'
I looked at him and said 'Do it!'
It's amazing what you can do with a backhoe and front end loader.

The Michael Smith show:
There used to be a video around the innertubes that showed a group of people sitting around as music plays - several minutes into it, one person gets up and starts dancing. Some of you may have seen it or have heard about it.
For the longest time, it is just the one person.
The reaction of the crowd is initially what you would expect. They watch the person's gyrations with a combination of curiosity, derision and mostly they just want to ignore the person - but after a while, a second person joins in and begins dancing. Then another and then another until the entire group starts dancing.
The point being is that its not the single person dancing that should worry us, it is the second person who creates the feeling of permissiveness that it's OK to dance and sets the stage for the rest who were reluctant at first, to join in. With each person joining in, the stigma of dancing decreases while the stigma of not dancing increases.
It's not the Newsom's, Whitmer's or Cuomo's that are the problem, it's the true believers who get up to dance with them.
I remember what Hayek wrote:
"The most effective way of making people accept the validity of the values they are to serve is to persuade them that they are really the same as those they have always held, but which were not properly understood or recognized before. And the most efficient technique to this end is to use the old words but change their meaning."
Hayek was writing about that second person and that second person is always this guy:
"There is literally nothing which the consistent collectivist must not be prepared to do if it serves “the good of the whole,” because that is to him the only criterion of what ought to be done. Once you admit that the individual is merely a means to serve the ends of the higher entity called society or the nation, most of those features of totalitarianism which horrify us follow of necessity. From the collectivist standpoint intolerance and brutal suppression of dissent, deception and spying, the complete disregard of the life and happiness of the individual are essential and unavoidable."
We are seeing this in real time, primarily in states with progressive Democrat governors.
What the video doesn't teach is how to turn the music off. That's up to us

I believe I mentioned french drains. What can't they do? We are putting one in on the right side of our house where, after 34 years, I've finally convinced the hubs that another or another or another pallet of grass ain't gonna grow. It is so shady and not graded properly that it is moss best friend. So, we are going to have it regraded (again) and this time install a french drain and crusher stone and put in pavers. It is the only relatively flat spot in the entire 3/4 acres. We are at the bottom of the street, so all the water in the neighbors' backyards flows toward us. Men can be so hard headed. I bet we spent $4K on pallets of grass and seed over the years and the new patio is going to cost about 1/2 that. Grrr.

Jane - I hope you and Kiwi can rest tonight. I know that awful feeling as I had to sleep on my back for 10 weeks when I broke my neck. I had never slept on my back. I couldn't turn at all. But you will figure it out. I found listening to a book on tape or a podcast kept my mind occupied and helped me to fall asleep quicker.
I assume Kiwi was having a melt-down because he didn't know where you were. I'm glad he has you back!

Ha! Bub.
I've got a sinkhole way back in a corner in the back yard just begging for some dirt. Did I mention it's about 6 ft deep? :)
