Ext, that Smithfield story is terrifying.
The sale should never have been permitted. As an American citizen, Pope should never have for a millisecond considered it. And the company should be seized by the government and auctioned back to an American owner, and to hell with international law or Wall Street or the complaints of the CCP.
If that makes me like Hugo Chavez, so be it. Better that then allowing an enemy government to have control over a huge element of our nation’s food supply.

Boy is Mitt Romney an a'hoe:
"Sen. Mitt Romney, R-Utah, proposed a pay raise for essential workers on Friday who are braving the front lines of the novel coronavirus outbreak.
The temporary bonus, known as "Patriot Pay," would amount to an increase of $12 per hour in May, June, and July, according to a Senate press release.
One-quarter of the bonus would be paid by employers, while the remaining three-quarters would be paid out by the federal government. The measure would be funded by a refundable payroll tax credit.
“Health care professionals, grocery store workers, food processors, and many others—the unsung patriots on the frontline of this pandemic—every day risk their safety for the health and well-being of our country, and they deserve our unwavering support,” Romney said. “Patriot Pay is a way for us to reward our essential workers as they continue to keep Americans safe, healthy, and fed.”
The bonus would apply to essential employees making less than $50,000 annually."

Apropos of a conversation on another network, this guy named Henry Pratt is credited, in English anyway, of coining the term “racism”. Well not too long ago a Black guy went into a Henry Pratt plant he was getting fired from and killed five White people. He is said to have remarked that he wanted to kill all those Em Effers.

One-quarter of the bonus would be paid by employers, while the remaining three-quarters would be paid out by the federal government. The measure would be funded by a refundable payroll tax credit.
And if a business can’t afford their 1/4 share of the Patriot Pat bonus, because they’re bringing in less revenue and having to pay huge unexpected costs for enhanced cleaning and other covid-19 related costs, what happens to them?
I always think I can’t despise Romney any more, and then he goes and opens his mouth.

Ah, change. Who needs dem old fashioned values now that we have all these new genders:
"Americans are getting married at the lowest rate ever recorded, according to a report by the National Center for Health Statistics, with the lead author for the report calling the moment “historic.”
The U.S. marriage rate fell 6 percent in 2018 to only 6.5 new unions formed for every 1,000 people, the lowest number since the government began keeping data in 1867. The number is nearly 10 points lower than the peak rate during World War II, with 1946 (the first post-war year) having the record-high of 16.4 marriages per 1,000 people. Marriage rates steadily declined from 1982 to 2009, before steadying and slightly increasing in 2014."

When everyone gets back to work, the "essential" workers will no longer be the only ones working. Meanwhile, companies like Walmart have already given bonuses and raises to their people.
And btw, Mitt seems to think we won't return to normalcy until after the "Patriot Pay" ends in July?
Meanwhile, have there been any reports of grocery workers dropping like flies? I was just out shopping today and they all looked happy and carefree.

Thank-you for your courteous reply.
Like any publically traded company there are stockholders worldwide. However, the controlling interest at 33.2% is Beijing-based CDH Industries. The next highest percentage is JP Morgan at 5.2%.
With $100B under management it would be a naive stretch for me to pose the null hypothesis "Xi's government has no influence on CDH deal making and global strategies."
A sample excerpt illustrates a common valid perception passed on to me from a former Beijing bureau chief of a major US newspaper (LA Times):
"Until recently, such a statement would have been laughed out of court. No longer. Nor would Washington have contemplated the policy of “decoupling” the US and Chinese economies – shorthand for the administration’s commitment, through taxes, tariffs and other punitive measures, to disentangle its companies and their technologies from China’s supply chains.
The relationship between the party and private sector companies is, up to a point, flexible – certainly more so than with state companies. The party doesn’t habitually micromanage their day-to-day operations. The firms are largely still in charge of their basic business decisions. But pressure from party committees to have a seat at the table."
Sincerely,
Blah blah

I wonder how much crap Trudeau is getting from hunting resort owners. The Michigan governor seems to be unaware of the money tourism brigs in, as my friend who was planning on going to Mackinac this summer with her kids and grandkids told me when she cancelled their reservations.
I tell you, if I owned one of those resorts and had voted democrat/liberal, I would NOT vote the same way again. (Of course, I came to that conclusion back in the Jimmy Carter Era.)

Mel: "no wonder they keep trying to steer moar and moar cash back to the states, cities" (for corruption, money laundering, ...)
Yes, but also recall what happened to the money allocated to aid recovery in the Great Recession.
It was at first SUPPOSED to go to shovel-ready jobs performed by burly men.
But that got derailed (no money for icky MEN) and the money was rerouted to pay women in offices of state and local government. Insty did a fairly complete job of covering that.
It's not unlike 1984 in that regard. The Inner Party only cares about itself. But, as necessary from time to time, scraps are thrown to the Outer Party.
But never to the Proles.

Ext,
When LGF hit peak insanity I just ignored it because fat boy Chuckles never claimed to be a conservative so it wasn't like dealing with a lying dumbass. The loon's remaining butt swabs have to be under 10 in number so he's coming close to talking to himself all the time.
At the beginning of the Pandemic he was whining about how he and his sisters had planned on taking their crone mother to Italy. How sweet would it have been to have that clown posse stuck in Pandemic Central World Headquarters? Somehow it would've been Drumpf's fault in his addled mind.

Patterico is a prosecutor?
Do defense attorney's in LA need to watch his Pontifications? I wonder if they do and use it against him. He is what I would call a "perfect asshole".
What was that goofy blog that started out on revealing the Bush memo was typed on an old typewriter? He reminds me of the mindless jerk and his audience.

Is happyfeet still posting over there? Or is he banned for like the 43rd time? Drama queens are so tedious. Both HF and Patterico.

Thanks, Cap. LGF. What a waste of broadband. If I was in California and saw him on bike I would make certain I stuck a stick in his wheels. A complete, registered and certified asshole.

Hang in there Jane and Kiwi. Kiwi, get better soon, your mistress needs you.
And do mind the doc's instructions, Jane. Just not worth the potential consequences.
