Eugene Volokh preps for a Trump Executive Order on social media by taking us through the current law on publisher, distributors and platforms.

Persuasion of the public, not coercion of the commies; as always.

I guess my last comment in the previous thread was unnecessary. :-)
Posted by: Extraneus | May 28, 2020 at 05:34 PM
Extraneus,
Thanks for that discussion of Section 230. I am wondering if the earlier law for National Emergency discussed by Carlos Osweda last night overrides it, and if that law was used for unreported negotiations with the tech guys to get them to suck it up and knock it off.
Isn't this an interesting time to live? I sure think so!
Addendum: Extraneus posted a link to Volokh's article before Tom put up this new thread, so I only felt it fair to link my reply here as well.
Posted by: MissMarple2 | May 28, 2020 at 05:35 PM
Anyway, after reading Volokh's piece, I got the impression that if Twitter, YouTube or Reddit censor their commenters over politics, they may move up the immunity chain and no longer have platform immunity to libel lawsuits. Gab, on the other hand, would still be immune, even if they remove porn, threats, and other illegal or patently offensive content.

With his tweets about Scarborough's intern, Trump set a trap for Twitter
Posted by: Extraneus | May 28, 2020 at 05:53 PM
henry,
Within the last 2 weeks I have noticed HUGE numbers of Twitter users attacking people with all sorts of insults, and most have under 100 followers.
I routinely block them now, which takes a great deal of time. However, since I think most are from the DNC, Iran, or China, I am willing to do it.
One of their memes is a story from Fox saying that Ivanka was given 5 trademark rights from China at the same time the trade deal was negotiated. Now, that may or may not be accurate, but if it is, I can see the CCP making a big deal of granting those and holding the announcement until a controversy heated up.
Since she is totally consumed with the business of getting people back to work, I do not see her doing a double-dealing action like that.
That link seems to be frequently used by the bot posts, and always formatted the same way.

Yum.
Great dinner.
Onion rings (brought home enough for a week) and lobster bisque. Incredible lobster bisque. I am full as a tick and I've actually been in a restaurant.
We were the first people there, and as people started to arrive, I leapt out and ran to the door. Not my usual style, but I was really hungry. My neighbors just laughed.

The Lancet study of HCQ is being questioned in an open letter from a number of doctors and researchers, both for the quality of the data and for transparency. At least some of the data were clearly wrong. The number of deaths attributed the five Australian hospital exceeded the total number of Australian Covid deaths in the relevant time period. When challenged, the company that supplied the data said that deaths from an Asian hospital were misattributed to Australia.

If Floyd, before the camera started rolling, had leapt to his feet, spat in the eye of each cop, kicked each cop in the groin, and somehow taken one of the cops pistols from its holster with his mouth and shot each cop in the leg, there would still be plenty of evidence that Office Knee should be arrested for manslaughter.
