The AFP lays out Trump's election strategy. In his Trumpian way I think he has managed to find a winning message that he will present in a divisive way. (I wish I could remember which pundit pointed out weeks ago that no one should underestimate Trump's sense of the national mood. Probably quite a few, actually.)
The gist - Trump is going to run in favor of getting America back to work. Make the Economy Great Again! Which makes the Democrats what - the party of "Stay Locked Up and Out of Work"? Some of them are stupid enough to argue for just that, but the larger problem is the rural/urban divide behind this disease. Big city Democrats are living a different life than rural Republicans, with suburbanites caught in-between.
We've seen the rural/urban divide play out across the nation and even within states - Michigan grabs headlines but upstate NY and rural California just don't have the same coronavirus experience as their big city counterparts. One size does NOT fit all.
My issue with Trump is that this does not meed to be presented in a confrontational way. "Liberate Michigan"? Come on - it's been obvious since last fall that the lockdown in Michigan has an upstate/downstate divide ("Last fall"?!? OK, that's quarantine-weeks, which are like dog-years.) Michigan's governor is not the enemy here; she has legitimate concerns about the people in the Detroit Metro area. That happens to be where her voters are so the politics can get nasty, but they don't have to get nasty.
Although Trump was not a fan, George Bush had a good statement on this topic. National character, national unity. I do love his phrase "in this time of testing." That prompts me to revive my Smart Restart post from the summer of 2015. Or mid-April. Whenever.

“Pressed to clarify the policy, Macenka said that repeat positive cases "are counted as separate cases only if the tests occur on different days. If [a Virginia resident] tested Monday and Tuesday and both are positive, that's two positives."
I’d say unbelievable but really it isn’t.
If any private organization pulled crap like this in its government paperwork they’d be facing a list of criminal fraud charges a mile long.
But the employees of the state of Virginia who pull it get taxpayer funded salaries and gold plated lifetime pensions.

MM I came in late to dogs. Our beloved Boston Terrier - acquired from a customer - changed me forever. We were devastated when he died. We now have an adopted terrier mix, who I say is part Boston, part Jack Russell, and part velociraptor! I am very careful with him around others, but with family he is a love bug. When Bruno died I thought it was worse than losing my parents. And I truly loved my parents. Losing a beloved dog is heart breaking. I’m so sorry.
Gus, terrible for you and all who are denied proper grieving and burials for our beloved family members. One of my customers told me he lost two elderly relatives and they were alone. We agreed that each of us would take the risk of catching the virus to be with our loved ones, and we would voluntarily quarantine after.
Regarding the Trump debate, I get both sides. Some days I think he should just shut up about testing, and other days I think we would have been completely screwed if should she-who-must-not-be-named won. But then if that was the case, we would not be in this situation, so therefore glad that Trump is Pres of USA. Circular argument in ones head can make one crazy. So I will take him and give him credit. The press is being shown to be the frauds they are. The depot govs as well. Is the economy a mess? Yes! Is it terrifying, YES!
Arghh. Editing my post and I see it eliminated my paragraph about books. In short all new fiction stinks. Can’t read it. I swear it’s all written by Karen-like Facebook posters, with maybe a few exceptions. Love history so biographies and historical books rule at this point. I will say my son gave me three Agatha Christie books for my b day. Classics are always the best in the fiction category.
Two days until state wide state mandated masks go into effect here in MA. I predict a few Karens, and the rest will ignore. So far it’s an unhygienic dirty mask mess.

If I could have used some sort of magic, I would have had the vet heal her.
However, besides the severe arthritis, she had a couple of large surface tumors and loss of bladder control (probably due to an internal tumor), and she simply couldn't last. I wanted to have her leave before she got severely attacked with pain.
Thanks for your kind words.

"Instructive comparison between coverage for Florida and California"
Somewhat off topic to MissM's comment but here in CA we keep pushing back the date for evidence of WuFlu in CA. Some days ago the did an autopsy that showed the first death was Feb 6th, not late March as previously believed.
The significance: WuFlu was running free in CA for weeks or even months before the shutdown. And no one knew. No one could tell.
The "brilliant" Dem early shutdown was not early.

MM. no worries. I support the man completely. His texting is great. And I always have to shut up when my customers bitch about him. If I do engage, I point out that they brought it up first. In fact, you are right to point out your support for Trump. I have been and still am a supporter. But the debate that OL brought up engaged me. Happy to debate it. He’s our only hope at this point. I was encouraged when he recognized last night that there are people not helped by his economic policies, and he said he would look into that. So he does listen. He also recognizes that he can’t save everyone. It’s a terrible time. Trump helps me feel optimistic. Yet I get OL’s pessimism. We are all on the ledge. Time for another cocktail! Good night all!

Instapundit has questioned whether it's accurate to say as I have that there's no evidence that asymptomatic people transmit this virus. Is it different from other viruses. If not there's this:https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.go... A better understanding of transmission dynamics is essential in influenza pandemic planning. If a substantial proportion of transmissions were to occur during the presymptomatic phase or from asymptomatic individuals, then infection control measures such as contact tracing and quarantine of exposures would be of limited value. Infectiousness has been inferred based on the presence of influenza in the upper respiratory tract rather than from transmission experiments. Although asymptomatic individuals may shed influenza virus, studies have not determined if such people effectively transmit influenza.
Is this virus different than all other viruses?
We performed a systematic review of published studies describing the relationship between viral shedding and disease transmission. Based on the available literature, we found that there is scant, if any, evidence that asymptomatic or presymptomatic individuals play an important role in influenza transmission. As such, recent articles concerning pandemic planning, some using transmission modeling, may have overestimated the effect of presymptomatic or asymptomatic influenza transmission. More definitive transmission studies are sorely needed.
