AG Barr addressed 'Obamagate' yesterday. The NY Times headline reprises the Clinton-era standard for Democrat behavior - if they don't indict, it's alright:
Barr Dismisses Trump’s Claim That Russia Inquiry Was an Obama Plot
The attorney general said that an investigation into the Russia inquiry was focusing on others, not the former president.
Hmm, really? Deep in the Times story we see this:
“We saw two different standards of justice emerge: one that applies to President Trump and his associates, and the other that applied to everybody else,” Mr. Barr said. “We can’t allow this ever to happen again.”
Mr. Barr called the Russia investigation and the investigation of Mr. Trump “a grave injustice” that was “unprecedented in American history.” He also spoke of a trend in recent decades of “increasing attempts to use the criminal justice system as a political weapon.”
“This is not a good development,” he said. “This is not good for our political life. And it’s not good for the criminal justice system.”
Even so, Mr. Barr would not criminally implicate Mr. Obama or Mr. Biden, and he said that improper actions by the previous administration may not turn out to be criminal offenses. “Not every abuse of power, no matter how outrageous, is necessarily a federal crime,” the attorney general said.
Is it possible Obama presided over an abuse of power, even if it was not criminal? The firebrands at NPR led with more or less that possibility:
Barr Doesn't Expect Russia Probe To Lead To Criminal Investigation Of Obama Or Biden
U.S. Attorney General William Barr told reporters Monday he does not expect a Justice Department probe examining the origins of the inquiry into Russian election interference will result in criminal investigations into either former President Barack Obama or his vice president, Joe Biden.
A year ago, Barr tasked John Durham, the U.S. attorney for Connecticut, with investigating the origins of the Russia probe. The review, which was upgraded to a formal criminal investigation later in 2019, seeks to determine whether there was impropriety in the FBI's investigation into whether Donald Trump's campaign colluded with Russia to influence the 2016 White House race in Trump's favor.
"Under the longstanding standards of the department, criminal charges are appropriate only when we have enough evidence to prove each element of a crime beyond a reasonable doubt. That is the standard we're applying," Barr said in response to a question about whether the department would investigate Obama and Biden.
"There's a difference between an abuse of power and a federal crime. Not every abuse of power — no matter how outrageous — is necessarily a federal crime," Barr said at an unrelated news conference to discuss last year's shooting at a U.S. military base in Pensacola, Fla. "Now, as to President Obama and Vice President Biden, whatever their level of involvement, based on the information I have today, I don't expect Mr. Durham's work will lead to a criminal investigation of either man. Our concern over potential criminality is focused on others."
That is a pretty soft exoneration. My emphasis on "impropriety", which is hardly a synonym for "illegality".

Barr has a tough balancing act. He needs to oversee an investigation that lessens (elimination is not a possibility) the chance that these types of abuses will continue. He recognizes that, whatever one wants to make of technical interpretations of the federal criminal code, the first black POTUS is not going to be indicted. Likewise for the almost first female POTUS, and for the presumptive Dem candidate for POTUS in 2020.
Although we lawyers often pretend otherwise (not only to the general public, but also often to ourselves), these types of decisions always have a significant political component to them. With the possible exception of Mukasey, I think Barr is the best one to deal with this. He has the integrity to oversee this, and the intestinal fortitude to steel himself to the reality that he will be pilloried by just about all of the interests involved no matter how this turns out.

The whole story will play out in front of us. I read with Barr's comments and agree. While we might want to tar and feather Obama and Biden an equal revenge is their humiliation.
I don't see Strozk, Page, Comey or McCabe walking away from this one. I see a possibility that they nab Clapper and especially Brennan. Lynch will be disgraced completely for allowing this travesty. Hopefully a lot of the pilot fish/douchebags get tarred as well.
But unless we have Obama's handwritten notes describing setting up Flynn, few would dare to go that far.
Even now, Obama and Biden are fouling their own nests so more power to them.

Following in Stephanie's great footsteps, I thought I'd post a joke that a friend in Scotland sent me:
A little girl was leaning into a lion's cage. Suddenly, the lion grabs her by the collar of her jacket and tries to pull her inside to slaughter her, all under the eyes of her screaming parents.
A biker jumps off his Harley, runs to the cage and hits the lion square on the nose with a powerful punch. Whimpering from the pain, the lion jumps back, letting go of the girl, and the biker brings the girl to her terrified parents, who thank him endlessly.
A BBC reporter, Laura Kuenssberg, has watched the whole event. Laura, addressing the Harley rider says, "Sir, this was the most gallant and bravest thing I've seen a man do in my whole life.”
The Harley rider replies, "Why, it was nothing, really. The lion was behind bars. I just saw this little kid in danger, and acted as I felt right.”
Miss Kuenssberg "Well, I'll make sure this won't go unnoticed. I'm a BBC journalist, you know, and tomorrow's news will run this story. So, what do you do for a living, and what political affiliation do you have?”
The biker replies "I'm a British Army veteran, a Conservative and I voted for Brexit”.
The journalist leaves.
The following morning the biker turns on BBC News to see if it indeed brings news of his actions.
BBC Headline: RIGHT WING UK VETERAN ASSAULTS AFRICAN IMMIGRANT & STEALS HIS LUNCH.
And THAT pretty much sums up the BBC's approach to the news these days.

"History tells us that drastic budget cuts will only further delay the economic recovery of the state," said Tiffani Lennon, executive director of the Colorado Center on Law and Policy, one of the groups that is leading-up the effort behind the tax proposal.
"For those Coloradans that are privileged to have earned $250,000 or more a year, those folks, this is their opportunity to give back, this is their opportunity to help stem this crisis," she added.
The income tax proposal calls for reducing Colorado’s “flat” personal income tax rate of 4.63% to 4.58% for the first $250,000 of annual income. Above that earnings threshold, there would be tiered rates: 7% for income between $250,000 and $500,000; 7.7% for income between $500,000 and $1 million; and 8.9% for income over $1 million.

I agree with your criticisms - it would have been good to hear more of his thoughts on jurisprudence generally.
But, given that the audience was PBS, I think the libs needed to hear about Thomas the man. The film did a nice job of that.
I "enjoyed" watching the segments from the Anita Hill bullshit because 1: the audience got to see Biden in all his evil smirking glory, which underlines his pathetic incompetence today, and 2: Thomas's sorrow and indignation at his humiliation came through loud and clear. I had forgotten how moving and powerful his "high-tech lynching" statement really was.
Many many thanks to John Danforth of Missouri for giving this man a chance and putting him on the path to the Supreme Court. The greatest thanks go to Thomas's grandfather, Myers Anderson. Thomas's devotion to him was evident in the film.
Larry Arnn says that Thomas is the greatest living American. Hard to disagree.

This is a thread by a native of Hawaii who shares some background on Pearl Harbor that you may not know about.

No, obviously not, OL, so that was likely the issue.
Thank goodness I got Mr Porch to drink that secret MAGA potion early on in the 2016 cycle or who knows what might have happened.

Mrs H was enjoying the movie until the state apparatchiks starting it @ 10 went past her codger bedtime at the hour mark.

Just got back from the eye doctor. 1/2 the surgery worked, and 1/2 didn't. My macular has not reattached. So she did more, and now I have 143 bubbles in my eye and have to lay face down til Friday. There is nothing worse than lying face down - trust me. Hopefully it will work this time! (I don't have to go face down til I go to bed so I think I'll stay up really late!)

Where do I find an ambulance chaser to file a class action lawsuit against DeWine and his bitch health czarina for mandating social distancing based on no scientific testing with a control group? Unproven crap made up on the fly is no way to mismanage a state's economy.

Did the Thomas documentary have his childhood, or his conversion from liberal to conservative, or his job hunt after graduating 1st from Yale law School? Those were my favorite parts of his Bio.
