OL,the daughter and son-in-law were going to come up to Maine the end of the month. She doesn't think she'll be able to work in her D.C. office until mid-June. We were calling it "Escape from Maryland." Between the snowstorm the other day and the 14 day quarantine, they decided Maine wasn't a good option.
I have it on good authority that Abbott is spending LOTS of money in Maine at the moment, but probably not anything like what the tourists spend in the bars:)
Maine has 65 deaths. I believe about half in nursing homes. The people with summer residences aren't going to stay out. The plumber was here the other day and said on MDI (Bar Harbor) there are lots of out of state license plates.

The WI race went to the Repub. Dems are celebrating because Trump won the district by 20 and this guy won by less than that

As I have said for a long time, dealing with China is a very expensive thing to do. We just made a great Trade Deal, the ink was barely dry, and the World was hit by the Plague from China. 100 Trade Deals wouldnât make up the difference - and all those innocent lives lost!
I acknowledge that the dot i and cross t theory is highly unlikely, OL. However, if Richard Dawkins was only 666-1 odds at the Paddy's Place book during the most recent election for Pope, there must be some non-infinity to one odds amount that Judge Sullivan is simply running the laundry through the washer and dryer again to make sure it's shining clean!
Wiki has Tuesday's usual spike in new deaths at the lowest level since late March and much smaller than the last several such spikes.
New cases continue to trend down and the trend seems to be accelerating a bit.
I agree it's well written, and doesn't read like a hoax, but it's not at Techno_Fog, Margot, Huber, Sundance, Solomon, Mollie, and Sidney hasn't tweeted in 17 hrs.
IG: "I would like to go on record to assert the natural born citizen requirement should be suspended in 2024 so we can elect John Magufuli, current president of Tanzania, president of the US."
Clarice, Mel's 9:51 is a link to an open memo from Sidney to Obama, which I can't find anywhere else. The Gateway links all show her brief to the court, opposing the amicus stuff, but not the memo to Obama.
amom, Helen Smith has been linking that 50 mask thing for weeks. In the comments, people say the masks are from Wuhan, and everyone's complaining that she would link those.
Btw, someone also said that if you click an Insty Amazon link, they get a percentage of anything you buy from Amazon within the next 24 hours, not just if you buy the thing they linked. Does anyone know if that's true?
Cal is closing the universities so a bailout will be even more necessary. It's madness. I hope the other state unis don't follow them off a cliff.
While I feel for sane friends in blue states, my reaction is increasingly: buy the ticket, take the ride. You (collectively) voted for this.
No pro-lockdown person is going to be able to complain to me about the obvious and predictable sequelae to their prescribed policy and not get an earful.
Robin, I am very sorry to hear about your daughter's friend's mom. With my co-worker, I don't know how much the lockdown affected her mental state. But I imagine it must have had some impact.
A note I've been meaning to write for a couple of days:
For all the people (this includes ME) who wanted Trump to roll out indictments earlier, look what's happening.
The Flynn case is clear as day. The enemedia is ignoring it or, amazingly, claiming it is not important. After Russia Hoax 24/7 for 3 years.
The enemedia is trying to normalize behaving like 3 year olds. Total emotion. No logic. No truth. They seem to hope that citizens across the nation will join in their hysteria.
It would have been no easier 3 years ago. In fact, it would have been harder.
Just when the push to relax quarantine is gaining momentum, a report shows children are affected by virus:
âThe idea that children either donât get Covid-19 or have really mild disease is an oversimplification,â said Dr. Adam Ratner, the director of pediatric infectious diseases at New York University School of Medicine and Hassenfeld Childrenâs Hospital at N.Y.U. Langone Health. Itâs true â and comforting â that there have been fewer cases detected in children, and that the case fatality rate is much lower in children than in adults, especially older adults, he said, but âwe have had some extremely sick children.â
I think it's increasingly important not to lose the distinction between the pandemic and the panic over the pandemic which led to the lockdowns.
The virus did not cause great economic damage. The PANIC over the virus and subsequent LOCKDOWNS caused great economic damage.
The virus, which eventually became a pandemic, and the panic over it, are being fused into the same thing - called generally "the pandemic" - by the folks creating the narrative. Don't fall for it. Some smart righties are already just calling it "the pandemic" which is just what they want.
Just when the push to relax quarantine is gaining momentum, a report shows children are affected by virus:
They might want to investigate the 'paralysis' disease that illegal immigrants were suspected of causing primarily in the midwest due to their lack of immunizations.
Selective outrage over 'the chillrens' is such BS.
If that memo's legit, Sidney goes for Obama's throat.
These examples are obvious and well-known. Perhaps you will soon find some remarkably good âjailhouse lawyersâ to consult for further assistance on your search for precedent.
Of course he'll never go to jail but she sure is trolling that his friends are. I love this woman!
--I never say "quarantine," only "lockdown." "Quarantine" is meant to convince you that you are doing the Right Thing for Public Health. This is not even a true quarantine. It is a lockdown.
--I never say "COVID-19" or "COVID." While it's technically correct, of course, it is the preferred term of those Karens who want you to know that they are Up To Date with Science and that they would Never be Racist by referring to the virus's Chinese origin. I only say CV, coronavirus, China virus, Wuhan, or more frequently something slangy or derogatory like rona or Kung Flu.
Thanks for that link to Bricks. I passed it onto Mrs. JiB, as she is an AIA member. My great-great grandfather was a brick maker during the early mornings of the day and then a famous cricket bowler later in the day:) His kiln was set up in Brighton, England in a park setting that eventually got surrounding by Georgian and Victorian villas built with those bricks.
The handling of the nursing homes during the COVID pandemic seems to resemble the scene in âDeath Race 2000â when the staff put the aged residents outside so the race contestants could run them down for extra points.
... the Wuhan Virus changed everything (I call it that because it is a virus that came from Wuhan) ...
On any given day at Southdale before the Wuhan Virus (I call it that because they were probably tinkering on a virus to learn things, and crap crap, that shouldn't have happened, well, hope for the best) ...
I could get the Wuhan Virus (I call it that to push back against Newthink that insists the smart people call it the European Virus) and I could die. I know that. I keep that in mind all the time when I leave the house, and gather my tools and shields, and mind my actions with care, for the same reason I signal a lane change on an empty highway. You never know what's in your blind spot. ...

It didn't have to be this way.

They might want to investigate the 'paralysis' disease that illegal immigrants were suspected of causing primarily in the midwest due to their lack of immunizations.
Selective outrage over 'the chillrens' is such BS.

More on language:
--I never say "quarantine," only "lockdown." "Quarantine" is meant to convince you that you are doing the Right Thing for Public Health. This is not even a true quarantine. It is a lockdown.
--I never say "COVID-19" or "COVID." While it's technically correct, of course, it is the preferred term of those Karens who want you to know that they are Up To Date with Science and that they would Never be Racist by referring to the virus's Chinese origin. I only say CV, coronavirus, China virus, Wuhan, or more frequently something slangy or derogatory like rona or Kung Flu.

Porchlight,
Thanks for that link to Bricks.
Posted by: Jim Eagle | May 13, 2020 at 11:43 AM
An addendum on Bricks:
Those kilns in Brighton were used to make and cure the bricks used to build the fortifications around Paris. A number of them still exist.

The handling of the nursing homes during the COVID pandemic seems to resemble the scene in âDeath Race 2000â when the staff put the aged residents outside so the race contestants could run them down for extra points.

For years, Democratsâincluding Adam Schiffâclaimed there was evidence of Russian collusion. It was a lie.
Obama officials knew it was a lie, yet they continued to publicly share misinformation. They betrayed the trust of the American people.

The problem with reopening is the fear of frivolous lawsuits, which McConnell has been talking about trying to fix for weeks. Considering what's in the latest Dem $3T wish list in the House, it's hard to see how anything can pass, so the litigation problem will be a major drag on economic recovery.

Any state employee carrying out Whitmer's orders is morally no different than the Nazi troops who rounded up Jews and stuffed them into railroad cars.
I don't think that's hyperbole, not one bit. And they should be dealt with exactly the same.
