Rep. Elise Stefanik calls for fed probe of Cuomo’s nursing home policy

Extraneus
Her call came after a new report showed the state quietly altered the way it publicly reports nursing home deaths from the virus.

In early May the state stopped counting nursing-home patients who died from COVID in hospitals in its official tallies of nursing-home fatalities, The Daily Caller reported. It now only includes those deaths that occur in the nursing home facility itself.

The Infamous Ignatz

We don't really have to ask "when did Governor Cuomo know forcing people teeming with the CCP virus into nursing homes, where the most vulnerable people live, might cause many of those most vulnerable to get sick and die and when did he know it?" because at no time did anyone not know it.

The question "what the hell did he think was going to happen?" might be of some use though.

MissMarple2

Ignatz,

Seems like Cuomo's action might have constituted the crime of manslaughter in some states.

Manuel Transmission

OK, willowed this because it needs further attention. Is this another case of disappearing tweets, etc?

I’ve discovered an interesting email anomaly. I routinely send out maybe ten emails a day that link stuff you guys post here to my homies. But last Wednesday’s mid week in pictures and this morning’s TWIP disappear! It’s like there’s a hidden spam filter on PL links going out through my local smtp server. I could see that if it was a gmail acct, but our service is jobbed out to some guys in IA who I’ve called up and chatted about this with. They got no outgoing filters.

I’m gonna be ostracized for not delivering the only good news that happens these days. :(

rse

The wrong lesson. More from the Frameworks Institute. Puts the shutdowns into perspective.

"The COVID-19 crisis has shown how vital it is that our governments are prepared to protect us from harm - and to take action even when the threat feels distant. As part of our recovery measures, we must step up our ability to handle problems stemming from climate disruption. As just one example: we know extreme weather events are ahead, because a warmer ocean fuels stronger storms. We can see this threat to health, safety, and economic prosperity. Now is the time to get ready for what lies ahead."

rse

Try "now we see how powerful
we can be together"

"Effective government action has made the difference between places that are managing the outbreak and those that are overwhelmed by it. This shows us how to handle other major threats - like climate change. To get back to a stable climate, we have to stop using fossil fuels. They put human health, and our future, at risk. The responsible thing to do is to switch to other types of energy. This shift requires bold, coordinated action, led by government. The pandemic has proved that this isn't easy - but that it can be done."

MissMarple2

Jack,

When I think about how the MSM and the Dems carried on like President Trump was an illiterate moron, and then THIS is the guy they wound up with, I just shake my head.

Furthermore, they bring him out like we aren't supposed to notice, proving their arrogance and contempt for the American people.

AND, when they finally bring out whoever they are going to run, they assume that no one will protest.

rse

Try "out with the old, end with the new"---

"As we recover and redesign our economies, we should carefully consider what we bring forward. Now is the moment to rethink our use of fossil fuels, the energy of the past. Rampant carbon dioxide has been trapping heat in our atmosphere for more than a century. It's disrupted our climate system, putting us all at risk. Every subsidy we offer - every stimulus we adopt - should move us toward clean energy. Recovery packages should invigorate the industries that will move us into the future, not try to resuscitate ones that are already being phased out."

Notice that "redesign our economies". Isn't that easier with so many small businesses being harmed by the shutdowns?

MissMarple2

rse,

I see what you mean. Chilling.

A friend of Hinderaker asks a good question:

Regarding Dr. Fauci–not about anything he said, but about how he looked. He obviously had just had a very nicely done haircut…perfectly coiffed, you might say.

So, while it may appear frivolous, it actually is not, to ask: where did Dr. Fauci get his haircut? As far as I know, haircuts are illegal now except maybe in Georgia (I’m thinking of driving to Savannah to get one, I’m so desperate!….more hair than I had in 1978!) and Florida and maybe a few other places. Certainly not in D.C. or Maryland or Virginia. So how is it that Dr. Fauci has a great and obviously recent haircut?

Of course, it’s a rhetorical question; I know the answer. But it’s infuriating….and telling.

Also, Jim Acosta is always nicely coiffed, too, and others. How is that?

And Hinderaker adds:

The same goes for everyone on television news. Because they are…special. Or essential. Or something. While the rest of us conspire to obtain a much-needed haircut.

Rep. Liz Cheney: China Deliberately Exported Global ‘Economic Devastation’ via Coronavirus

“There is a preponderance of opinion that this pandemic — this virus — originated from Wuhan,” said Cheney. “It’s also without question — it cannot be challenged — that the government of China shut down travel from Wuhan into the rest of their country while they allowed travel from Wuhan into the rest of the world. That is without question, and that alone tells you [the Chinese government] knew that they had human-to-human transmission.”

Cheney continued, “They knew it was so dangerous that they didn’t want it in the rest of their country, but yet they caused it to be exported to the rest of the world, and I think that they pretty clearly did that. I’m sure they understood the economic devastation this virus was going to cause, and I think they made a very clear, calculated decision that they didn’t want to be the only country having to face that devastation.”

Everyone knows that this is true, but Dems don't seem angry about it.

Extraneus,

My daughter overheard me discussing this with my friend (whom I often quote here) on the phone with this exact point.

My daughter told me I need to quit listening to all of these "conspiracy theorists."

THIS is why I get frustrated.

I have made progress in getting her ro agree that food, medicine and medical equipment shouldn't be made in China.

DrJ

Best wishes for a good outcome, Neo. I do not recall where you live, but I do hope that you have a good hospital.

Mostly I love living in a rural community. But the only small hospital here is not very good. Much better work is done at the UC Davis medical center. But that pales to Cedars Sinai in Los Angeles (West Hollywood actually).

Sometimes the lack of professional services in rural communities is a real problem.

Captain Hate

The uncomfortable truth is American progs have much more in common with communists than their fellow non prog Americans.
We're their real enemy.

I think that's the point of Taibbi's article. It took longer than it should have to reach that conclusion but different people here had differing points where they were comfortable with the Golden Scalpweasel.

GUS

Ig, this is what I mean 15 years ago, about the FULL COMMIE. The LEFT, MY ENEMY, cannot gain what they seek honestly, so they resort to any means necessary. And most of America goes right along with it. It's hard to imagine, logical and common sensical Americans' putting on the MASKS of FEAR.
They accept the lies told to them, and move on down the line.

Manuel Transmission

DrJ, I am dealing with damping and sound diffusion. Right now the room is much too live.

I prolly mentioned this some years ago, but when we rebuild our place pretty much from the ground up, we only had a chance to bump out the walls in a couple places. Our main living room was very narrow and natural seating was crossways so sound and TV viewing were both compromised. So I bumped out one corner about four feet, but had an immediate side wall vs about 16 ft to the main glass wall in the other direction. With much research I found an outfit in Toronto that made decorative wall panels with essentially zero sound reflection, but didn’t look like a recording studio. I’ve since seen the paneling in the Beijing Opera House. That plus fabric covered glass insulation on the relatively low ceiling gives the space the feeling of whatever the music was recorded to sound like.

By contrast, my buddy who hosts the live recitals in his home has no sense of the details and even with 60 people closely spaced around the piano, it is too hot to be enjoyed as it could. As a result we usually sit back in his adjacent library space for distance and additional defusion of the surfaces of his bookshelves.

Jane

A liberal friend of mine posted on Facebook:

How can someone who is pro-life justify killing all those elderly people?

I responded: Cuomo has never been pro-life.

Her response: I didn't post a name!

Me: You didn't have to.

So the left is now pushing that all nursing home deaths are due to Trump. Gawd I hate the uninformed. Speaking of which - what can we do about the lying media. Any ideas

DrJ

MT,

We are working on the room acoustics. The room is difficult, and it will take a few iterations to make it good enough. Fortunately the soon-to-be MrsJ is being a good sport about it.

peter

Another thing about placement of the pianos is that you have to keep them out of direct sun, even though a grand piano adjacent to a large window looks lovely. The daily heat fluctuations will make the pitch rise and sink and tuning will be a mess

GUS

Jane, you have been a breath of fresh air thru=out this bullshit. God bless you back to health.
The UNIFORMED is exactly what we are dealing with.
THE COMMIE MEDIA, the COMMIE DEM PARTY says something. IT IS AMPLIFIED and becomes TRUE to idiots like Miss M's daughter. COMMIES TOLD ME SO, and the COMMIE PARTY VERIFIED IT, the POLITCOMMIE did a FACT CHECK.
Then they use the actual words that the COMMIES USE. It's a conspiracy theory etc etc etc.

The let others who are evil bastards, do their thinking for them. The do not EVEN TRY to know the truth. They support ABORTION, then claim CONSERVATIVES want old people dead. HOLDREN, E.EMANUEL and thousands of their own COMMIE FRIENDS, are all in for MASS DEATH, their LEATHER FACED FRIEND Cuomo shits the bed, and they lie down in it.

MissMarple2

Jane,

My only idea is to quit watching them. Not very original.

DrJ

Peter,

We keep the piano out of the sun.

The larger problem is that it is 100 years old, and the pin block is pretty tired. The instrument should be rebuilt, but that is very expensive if you do it right. And there really is no way to do the rebuild part way.

GUS

My grand piano is in the darkest room in the house. Surrounded by some lovely guitars. I haven't tuned it in nearly 10 years, and it's still sublime.

peter

Yes, a hundred year old piano can be saved but a good deal of the action, pin block, likely the soundboard and naturally the hammers will be brand new. Good luck!

The Infamous Ignatz

D

I would love to hear DrJ play the piano. In 2011 we were near his home on a California vacation. I don’t think we will get there again.
Why don’t we all plan to meet in Cody Wyoming?

DrJ

Peter,

I don't now how much you are into pianos.

This old Baltimore Knabe is a magnificent instrument. Even after 100 years she plays pretty well. Yes, she needs pretty much everything redone. To date I haven't rebuilt her, but she really should be.

Manuel Transmission

I met a piano tech who was visiting my recital buddy (not his regular tuner, who is also our very liberal mayor!). Anyway in spending an evening over dinner with this tech, I was impressed with his lifelong wisdom on the subject being the son of a lifelong tech. He was visiting to evaluate two other bud’s pianos, one being Herb’s. Things like how to safely ship them across country when many shippers fake their treatment and even hold them for ransom!

DrJ, if it’s of any interest, I can get his contact info for the next time he’s in your neighborhood.
