The utility guys did a major hack job on the pecan in our front yard a few months ago.

Between the time they first came to look at the tree and the time they came back two months later to do the work, I stupidly had the trees trimmed. So the utility guys' instructions were something like "cut 1/3 from north side of tree" - but my tree guys had already cut 1/3. So the utility guys cut another third. UGH.

Fortunately pecans are hardy trees and it seems to be fine. But we have WAY more sun on the house than I would have wanted and it will cost us in guess what, utility bills.

I agree that giving Iran the bomb seems crazy, but Lee seems to be arguing that Obama was fixated on changing the power structure in the Middle East. Maybe he thought that would earn him more plaudits in the long run, and that people would say, Oh yeah, if Israel has the bomb, why shouldn't Iran have it? Obama thought he was going to pacify Iran with money and his angelic beneficence.

I don't know the answer. I am a retiree who had no work in law at all. I do know Rudy Guiliani, former federal prosecutor, said he could EASILY prove RICO, just as he did with the mob. I am taking his word for it.

The more I see all of these people married to each other, siblings of Congressmen & Senators (not to mention high-level bureaucrats) working in important corporations like tech, insurance, entertainment, etc. the more I think that he is spot on.

I'd accept a ruling mental disability, so long as it disallowed them from voting at all.

I have followed Iran since before the Shah was overthrown. We had an exchange student stay with us for a short stay when I was a senior in high school.

I still have his senior picture. His name was Jalil Rashti and he was both handsome and charming. I never forgot him, and when the Shah was forced out (under that loser Jimmy Carter, who also wouldn't let him come to the USA for pancreatic cancer treatment) I have mistrusted the Democrats ever since on foreign policy, especially the Middle East and now, China.

Carter's actions in foreign policy, particularly that one, was one reason I left the dems and voted for Ronald Reagan. I have never left the GOP.

Jalil was from a family close to the Shah. I assume they either went into exile or are dead. Carter can grin all he wants; as far as I am concerned, he is evil, as are a great many high-level dems.

Mr Porch doesn't remember anyone named Haley, but he moved away as a child after his parents died. His dad was a doctor at the local VA, so I wouldn't be surprised at all if his parents had known Dr. Haley. NY Governor Cuomo Blames CDC and Trump for the Thousands of Nursing Home Deaths in His State

During his coronavirus news briefing Wednesday, Cuomo claimed he came up with the policy that nursing homes cannot refuse seniors who test positive for the novel coronavirus based on guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

That explanation came in response to a question about “a call for a federal probe into how the state handled the nursing home situation,” in particular Cuomo’s March 25 order requiring homes to take in COVID-19 patients from hospitals.

“Look, this is a political season. I get it. I have refrained from politics,” Cuomo said; if there was laughter in the room, it was inaudible in the video.

“Anyone who wants to ask why did the state do that with COVID patients in nursing home, it’s because the state followed President Trump’s CDC guidance,” the governor said. “So they should ask President Trump. I think that will stop the conversation.”

When asked whether he was “fudging the numbers” when it comes to nursing home deaths — one accusation we’ve heard, considering 1,700 deaths in nursing homes went unreported in the state — Cuomo went back to blaming the CDC.

“Your first point, why did the state do that? Because the state followed President Trump’s CDC’s guidance. OK. That’s that answer? No numbers were changed,” he said.

A reporter from The New York Times (!) then brought up a good point: If these were Trump’s guidelines and if Cuomo has consistently demonstrated a willingness to stand up to the administration when its guidance has been in error, why didn’t he stand up to it this time?

He was just the sweetest, loving guy you'd ever want to be around. Funny how they didn't mention his altruism and philantrophy but then none of us here knew about that until after his death.

One time during a club meeting, I was sitting behind him and Brenda and happened to mention the upcoming game between Bama and LSU. I noted how Sabin had his team especially ready for LSU and Bob laughed it off but Brenda got pissed and told me to sod off:)

He played once in our Club Championship (match play) and took our number one golfer to the 2nd 18 befoe losing on the penultimate hole. And Bob was not a golfer even in the same league as our other guy but
had half the club out there for him.

Judge Matthew Stewart ruled that Karl Manke will not have to close his shop after the state again failed to prove he was an imminent danger to public health.

Stewart said the state did not arrest Manke when he was cited, so he didn’t represent “an imminent health danger.”

If that standard holds up, no more lockdowns will ever be allowed.

maybe three problems:

-1 the ownership of the magazine started valuing activism instead of reporting

-2 in cost cutting measures less skilled staff were onboarded, staff aligned with the activism goals, not the reporting goals

-3 they then aged out anyone who might have a contrary voice or real life experience.

-4 the activist staff were only looking at the magazines as a stepping stone and moved on to what they really wanted to ngos and government.

Long ago, when I was the editor of my high school paper, I wanted to be a reporter. Went to high school seminars at IU, to workshops at TV studios in downtown Indy, etc.

Dropped out of college and got married in 1967, went to Texas and then Berlin as an Air Force wife, came home in 1969.

By the time I had raised my son to pre-school age and gone back to school, journalism had completely changed.

Which is why I majored in Geology.

I just want to say .... I've never understood why "cunt" is off-limits, but men can be called its equivalent -- in a zillion different iterations -- and no one falls to the floor in a dead faint. When I was writing for Miami Vice (the only woman at that point) we were having a story meeting and one of the writers said, "A good line here would be, 'He's not thinking with the big head'" -- then, "Can we say that on TV?" No one treated me like a lesser species, or worried about my sensitivities. That was the 80s, and a lot has changed, but I liked being treated like just one of the guys in that setting.

Maybe I've been exposed to so much vulgarity in my movie/TV years that I'm hopelessly insensitive, but I think we should all put our big girl/boy pants on and not freak out over a four letter word.
