I'm blaming a two month lockdown for making everyone crazy.
The Minneapolis Student City Council will disband the police. Not cray-cray, by the way - Camden NJ disbanded the city police force and ended the union. Hired back a lot of the old cops and more young ones, doubling the size of the force while cutting payroll. A few years later the police voted to re-unionize. Camden has been handling the recent protests successfully. Keep hope alive!
Meanwhile, in another wing of the asylum insurgents have overrun the NY Times editors office. Editorial Page editor James Bennet will be leaving to spend more time with his book deal, or something. Times coverage notes his earlier mis-steps at the Times. This will warm hearts here:
Mr. Bennet’s tenure as editorial page editor, which started in 2016, was marked by several missteps. Last spring, The Times apologized for an anti-Semitic cartoon that appeared in the Opinion pages of its international edition.
Last August, a federal appellate court found that Sarah Palin, the former vice-presidential candidate, could proceed with a defamation lawsuit against The Times over an editorial edited by Mr. Bennet that inaccurately linked her statements to the 2011 shooting of a congresswoman.
Ben Smith, now of the Times, reports on other Newsrooms Burning. This paragraph is an instant classic, my emphasis:
But the shift in mainstream American media — driven by a journalism that is more personal, and reporters more willing to speak what they see as the truth without worrying about alienating conservatives — now feels irreversible. It is driven in equal parts by politics, the culture and journalism’s business model, relying increasingly on passionate readers willing to pay for content rather than skittish advertisers.
Alienating progressives remains a critical worry.
That media dynamic - the hunt for clicks and likes from engaged partisans - got a lot of attention during the Covington HS meltdown.

Minnesota: "We recognize that we don’t have all the answers about what a police-free future looks like ..."
Ig: This seems to me somewhat like jumping off the Empire State Building and on the way down saying you don't have all the answers about what a landing is going to look like.
TM, disappointingly, repeats leftie talking point: "Not cray-cray, by the way - Camden NJ disbanded the city police force and ended the union." (Sure, let's try it in YOUR community next!)
PowerLine commenter: "Camden abolished its police force...and transferred law enforcement to the county." So, really, they didn't go "police-free", they stopped paying, became essentially an unincorporated area, and let the County handle it.
Another PL commenter asks the logical follow up: "if you were a state trooper or Hennepin county deputy, would you patrol Mpls?"
Well, if it was you, WOULD you?
But a similar experiment in NYC may be proceeding to a conclusion without the steady guiding hand the City Council. Yet another PL commenter:
"Sources are reporting that the NYPD Commissioner and Chief Of Department are resigning and between 300 and 800 officers are retiring immediately."

we have two daughters who are fighting us on all this nonsense, too. They're teenagers
Teenagers are supposed to be emotional and passionate and largely wrong about stuff, because they have all the energy of youth without much in the way of knowledge or experience to temper it.
Which is why, for much of history, up until the late 1950's, societies understood that they shouldn't really be listened to, and they certainly shouldn't be setting the agenda for the entire direction and morality and government policies of the country.
But now we let teenagers - and, worse, adults who never grew out of their teenaged idiocy - run the world, and we can see where that's gotten us.

Yes, at UT Austin. No students this summer. No one anywhere on campus, really.
UT is supposedly committed to bringing back students in the fall but the rumor is right now that many courses will still be online. If they try this they're all going to look so ridiculous come August when the entire city is back to normal but campus is mostly deserted. And why should the Lege keep handing them money when they aren't educating students on campus?
They really do think a second wave is hitting. Because NPR told them so.

The NY Times is 100% onboard with the ideas of that article. Here's Charles Blow in today's paper:
We will have to come to see and accept that this system of oppression has been actively, energetically designed and deployed over centuries, and it takes centuries of equally active and energetic efforts to dismantle it.
We must make ourselves comfortable with the notion that for the privileged, equality will feel like oppression, and that things — legacy power, wealth accumulation, cultural influence — will not be advantaged by whiteness.

Trump has been hammering his high Republican approval rating for years now. I think it's smart. His supporters may feel isolated in comparison to non-Republicans but at least they know they're united against the NeverTrumpers, who are in no man's land.
Posted by: Porchlight | June 08, 2020 at 09:08 AM
Trump understands this to some extent but most conservatives don't; in a world in which the institutions are ruled by progs, we are now the radicals.
Something else many don't understand; while Alinsky was a Marxist turd he was a very smart turd. And even more than they worked against the old "Establishment", his rules for radicals will work against the rigid, orthodox ponderous, self-satisfied fossilized mammoth of leftism.

A sentiment I've heard here.
Politically conservative humans, even if Christian, no longer welcome. Even if Catholic.
http://bejohngalt.com/2020/06/its-getting-harder-to-be-a-catholic/
It’s Getting Harder to Be a Catholic
With the exception of a handful of faithful bishops, Catholics no longer speak out on abortion or homosexuality, but they speak out loudly on social justice issues and become increasingly dependent of the US government for funding through migrant settlements, etc.
(Church Militant): "In a bald-faced violation of their individual civil rights as American citizens, Washington, D.C.’s Abp. Wilton Gregory is ordering his clergy to dress in cassocks (or at least blacks) and protest President Trump at 11 a.m. Monday morning at Lafayette Park, and then march to the White House at noon. ... Inside sources tell Church Militant that Gregory is angry at the local D.C. Knights of Columbus who had invited President Trump to the John Paul II National Shrine, an invitation reportedly extended weeks earlier. ... According to those close to the unfolding events, Gregory is trying to orchestrate a media event whereby national news outlets will report that the “Catholic Church in America does not believe Trump is fit for office” and is using his own clergy to paint that picture."

Also, check Don's item 6, comparing the Hillary vs Trump primary vote in 2016 to the totals for PDJT and Biden this year. Of course, by this point both candidates are essentially running unopposed.
Zito said, "Judging by the numbers so far, President Trump drew voters out in force. With almost 98% of districts counted, Republicans have cast more than 861,000 ballots for Donald Trump, with 734,000 Democrats voting for Joe Biden."
In 2016, Hillary had 935,107 votes in the Pennsylvania primary. President Trump had 902,593. Nevertheless, he carried the state that November.

Trump is now beating Biden in PA primary ~934K to ~914K.
Total D votes did eventually overtake total R votes because Bernie has over 200K votes and Tulsi around 37K. But the Bernie and Tulsi people will not all vote for Biden, not by a long shot, and PA is a closed primary so Ds and indies for Trump couldn't vote that way.
Anyway, as Zito points out, Hillary beat Trump in the 2016 primary and Trump won the state anyway.

From Insty, an intriguing WuFlu data point:
Dramatic spikes in auto traffic around major hospitals in Wuhan last fall suggest the novel coronavirus may have been present and spreading through central China long before the outbreak was first reported to the world, according to a new Harvard Medical School study.
Using techniques similar to those employed by intelligence agencies, the research team behind the study analyzed commercial satellite imagery and “observed a dramatic increase in hospital traffic outside five major Wuhan hospitals beginning late summer and early fall 2019,” according to Dr. John Brownstein, the Harvard Medical professor who led the research.
Brownstein, an ABC News contributor, said the traffic increase also “coincided with” elevated queries on a Chinese internet search for “certain symptoms that would later be determined as closely associated with the novel coronavirus.”

Which of course is why the left loves all these different voting schemes that allow them to win elections with a minority of the actual votes.
Except for the electoral college, of course, which is actually in the Constitution.

Trivia: Smetana is Russian for sour cream.

I am waiting for a call back from the regional director of Garfield Park.
I cannot get over the fact that they would remove what amounts to a large tombstone for over 1600 soldiers!

Any resemblance of these vandals (they're still vandals even if they're employed by the gov't) to the Taliban is completely intended.

What is "rank voting"?
Posted by: Jane | June 08, 2020 at 10:54 AM
Jane, I believe it is list your choices in order - 1, 2, 3. The candidate with the lowest number would win by having the highest ranking overall.

We used to give small gifts to the Russian procurators for their assistance in prosecuting OSI cases. I bought some records of US and Eastern European music--Copeland and Smetana. None of them ever even heard of Smetana.
Yes, jimmyk, I remembered that connection to Hatikva

I am far from being a knowledgeable classical enthusiast but apart from Beethoven, I've found Dvorak and Smetana to be easy on the ears.
East Europeans plus I think they loved America?
There's a New World Symphony, and an American string quartet ... unless I'm misremembering

Hey Porch, did you show Mr. Porch the link I posted the other day? If not, here it is again. Video at the end, if he hasn't already seen it.

Why are all the democrat pols wearing the same scarf?

MM:
Dismantling statues is an attempt to erase history.
In Mussissipoi it is against the law to interfere with the Historical Preservation Act.
They did it anyway.
JamesD:
It is exactly like the Taliban.
A congressman in Maine was elected because he had the most second choice votes.

This is LOL funny. Look at the replies:
If BLM were to run a candidate for POTUS, who would it be?

Spoke to the park manager, a nice young guy. Orders came from mayor's office (Hogsett, who was Al Gore's campaign manager) and he was not told what would be done with it or anything.
I told him that the Indiana government put that up to mark those deaths and although they did move the bodies to Crown Hill Cemetery some time in the last century, removing that monument was a bad idea.
If you think this type of vandalism won't come to your city, you are very wrong!

Love the Moldau!

When you go back through virtually every single incident like the George Floyd one, certainly every memorable one; Michael Johnson, Trayvon Martin, Eric Garner, Freddie Gray, Arbery, etc, the facts are never as the narrative claims. And when the facts are exposed to the light of day in a courtroom the narrative falls apart.
What does that tell us? To a reasonable person it tells us that the entire idea of racist cops killing innocent black people is pretty much a complete left-wing lie.
If it wasn't they would have videos and examples of cops killing black people that turned out to be what they claim it is. I'm not saying it never happens but where are they?
Every time they say it happened it turned out it didn't. So maybe it doesn't.

Well, I hope this isn't pandering, good people (by the way, Good Day to all), but I've put together a VoiceOver reel and am beginning the process of hunting down work in that form of media.
If y'all know a little sumpin' sumpin' *or* somebody in the field, I would be much obliged to receive that info
