MissMarple2

Repeating from the end of the last thread, because I think it's an important point:

One of the comments about his walk to St. John's Church pointed something out I hadn't seen last night:

"He walked ahead of the rest, making himself a clear shot so that no one else would get hurt."

Buckeye

The messaging from Trump walking to the church was clear.

Any place I chose to fight, I’m gonna win.

The Dow is pricing in the next Kung Flu trillions that McTurtle said was needed. Congress and Wall Street divorced from reality, as usual.

Porch - repeating the question....

Porch,

Could you describe that YouTube video you linked? It was pulled down.

Robin, Tiger Beat Pompom Girl Team Member

I got a text last night from a lefty friend:

Are you all watching the protests? I had never really watched cnn before these past few days and I am blown away by how openly and frankly the news anchors speak about trump and the absurd joke he is. I had no idea

To which I responded, This is why they have no credibility. She ignored that.

hoyden

The video was a collection of clips showing Antifa types getting their just desserts.

Several of protesters getting laid out by cops, and at least three clips of protesters challenging moving vehicles and getting run over.

In 2020, planners and urbanists focused on equity are broadcasting a clear message to the wider profession right now that goes a step beyond connecting the racist present to its roots in the past. The message: Many of the planning innovations claimed by progressives as victories of social and environmental justice in recent years are perpetuating institutional racism.

Planning and urbanism have not achieved some apolitical or post-racial transcendence, despite good intentions. Overcoming institutional racism will require a thorough commitment to centering issues of equity in every planning discussion—from the public realm of streets and parks to the private realm of mixed-use development and housing. The slow streets and al fresco streets popping up all over the country, are subject to this critique, as explained in detail by the advocates featured in a bombshell feature by Alissa Walker, published by Curbed in May. For more sources on this subject, follow and boost the voices recommended by former Streetsblog USA editor Angie Schmitt.

Ensuring a new normal of social and racial equity will require a deep reckoning with the ways that planning innovations perpetuate systematic inequality, even among the most innovative and ostensibly progressive planning practices. It might be hard to hear, but advocates are underlining and insisting on this point, and no matter how difficult it is to confront, the field of planning is faced with an opportunity to enter a new era: one that centers racial, social, and environmental justice in every act.

Jane

Good Morning!

I’m sorry if I started something last night. Not my intention.

Marlene

Good Morning! Governor Mills really, really doesn't want President Trump to come to Maine. She talked to the media in Augusta yesterday with a message to the President.
"I ask that you check your rhetoric at the door and abandon the divisive language that sows the seeds of distrust among our people."
During the video conference yesterday, she asked to see the proof of "professional" agitators. There were protests in Portland and Bangor yesterday.

Gentlejim

Bringing this over because I unwittingly got oaked, willowed, whatever.

I got behind here. Finally passed out after being up for 34 of 37 hours. Don’t feel like I slept at all. Need more covfefe.

Fentanyl is very powerful and is dosed in micrograms. If memory serves it is roughly 100 times more potent than morphine. Carfentayl was developed as and is used as elephant tranquilizer and much more powerful than fentanyl. Again, relying on a questionable memory, l believe a grain or two can be fatal. Scary, scary stuff. It was and probably still is being used as a cutting agent in heroin.

JimSV is correct. The “high” is short-lived.

Back to ketchup, which does not belong on hot dogs.

Gentlejim

I can just see it.

“Sarge, take a knee in front of the protestors.”
“Kiss my ass.” (Taking me and my people home)

Old Lurker

Henry, those Kung Flu trillions falling from the sky are the sickest, most corrosive aspects of this whole fiasco.

LUNACY

Marlene

Jane, did you have strong thunderstorms last night? A friend texted that there was a small tornado in Venice late yesterday afternoon.

Old Lurker

Jane, any change in the eye this morning?

Jack Lillywhite

Now, because of Jane’s 8:11 post I have to go back to the last thread and find what she started😁

DrJ

I love watching the sunrise. It is quiet, and then the birds come out. It is a glorious time of day.

Melinda

One hour until the HildaBeast Show. Prompts the question, what will be the excuse this time?

Robin, Tiger Beat Pompom Girl Team Member

Thanks Buckeye.

MissMarple2

My paranoia has made me develop a conspiracy theory, so lets try this out.

Unbeknownst to me, my county has gone to "voting centers." That means instead of 250 polling places there are only 25. And they have allowed anyone who wants to to vote by absentee/mail because of the WuFlu.

Normally, Indiana wouldn't do that, but I guess Marion County did the voting centers right after the mid-term elections.

Then the paper put out a bunch of fluff stories which I found while searching, all with quotes from women my age about how RELIEVED they were not to have to get to a polling place.

(Even my daughter says they don't really want us to vote.)

SO: First fake polls, then WuFlu, then tell people they can vote absentee by mail.

THEN, "disappear" a bunch of GOP votes in the primaries so when the totals come in in November is won't look suspicious.

Melinda

Don't forget the "extra vote counting time will be required"!

MissMarple2

If you misssed the President's speech, he has it pinned in a video to the top of his Twitter page. Unfortunately, I can't seem to copy it over here.

https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump

MissMarple2

Melinda,

The absentee/mail votes have to be in by noon today, although the polls close at 6PM.

So, if the mail for you "voting center" comes in the afternoon and you didn't mail early enough, your vote won't count.

UNLESS you are a Democrat.

Jane

No thunderstorms or tornado's Marlene.

My eye sucks OL. Last night, I could see an aqua circle, in the middle of a gigantic white cloud with a gold (screwed up) line above it.

Hopefully it's fine.I see the doc at 1:00. Not sure she will be able to tell yet. She put a much heavier gas in this time, and said it will take 2 months to clear. I'm pretty damn sick of it.

Extraneus

Dow futures up 150, TM.

Melinda

PA Gov. Wolf tacked on another week for the voting to continue, so, don't rule it out just yet.

Another Bob

"He walked ahead of the rest, making himself a clear shot so that no one else would get hurt."

You know I like Trump and all MM, but that commenter is silly. Of course he was going for the symbolism, probably to specifically attack the “holed up in the bunker” nonsense. But Secret Service had that locked down adequately. Risk to the group that made the walk was well-managed.

Narciso

Thats why threw in the stalin quote on the overnight thread.

Marlene

Good Lord, the discussion on the local radio show is that the people traveling with President Trump on Friday are supposed to self quarantine for 14 days. The radio hosts played the audio of Trump/Mills exchange from yesterday. Mills asked in a bitchy tone of voice about "professional instigators." She wants to see the proof. Her tone was dripping with disrespect.

“find what she started”

Unknowingly touched on an event from some weeks ago that, at this point, is probably best alone.

Melinda

I know. It's all about who counts the votes. Ask me how this works here....

Add a code to a "Vote by Mail" envelope, and each election "judge" knows precisely which ones to throw out. Just like any mailed survey, it's coded to precisely to whom it was sent. Very common practice by PR firms.

MissMarple2

Well, Another Bob, you have a point, knowing how paranoid the SS is (even more than me!)

hrtshpdbox

...why stocks were up in the US

Going into Friday's close it was known and factored in that there would be unrest over the weekend; what wasn't known was how SpaceX would go. Not only was Tesla up more than 7% yesterday, but space launches always seem to spur enthusiasm from buyers, going way back. The market enthusiasts look at the world reopening and feel that, no matter how long it takes, a boon lies ahead without much likely to stop it.

",,,a deep reckoning with the ways that planning innovations perpetuate..."

IF these planning innovations perpetuate a problem(s), then does it MAKE ANY FUCKING SENSE AT ALL 👼 to refer to these as innovations?

AND- will this "deep reckoning" include a no-holds barred INVESTIGATION of the totalitarian roots and philosophical principles of the Gramscian "long march through institutions" circa 1950 thru 2020?

Not the ones who think letting the rioters run free is a Good Thing.

MissM has provided the research of Trump's surprisingly deep religious background. I'm betting TM is ignorant and considers lifting a Bible to be a cheap stunt in order to disingenuously "play to the base". A stunt by a depraved ex-playboy with no legitimacy.

Still, ignorance is one thing. To have no "sense of danger" when you find yourself siding with AOC on an issue ... that shows your street smarts have atrophied.

Instead it was a powerful and presidential moment that will soon and forevermore be viewed as a turning point with these riots. Although it's difficult to imagine that intelligent people (well, not AOC) can get it so wrong, I think of my local paper, which panned the Gettysburg address as "silly remarks", or the Chicago Times, which said of the address, "The cheek of every American must tingle with shame as he reads the silly flat dishwatery utterances of a man who has to be pointed out to intelligent foreigners as the President of the United States.”

Rev. Jesse Jackson visited with Mayor Frey on Riot Day Deux in MNPLS.

Conveyed to Mayor Frey, and i quote, "Dr. King would have been proud of your response to the violence."

At which point Mayor Frey burst into tears and sobbed unabashedly in front of the delegation, the Hennepin county attorney, and AG Ellison.

Also on that day Rev. Jackson and his delegation declined an invitation to meet with
Senator Globuchar after considering her track record on issues related and her current positioning for the VP slot.

It was a 12 hour junket which included touring the part of the city where Mr. Floyd died in police custody.
