Willowed answer for abob...

A Bob depends on the collegiate level, I believe, as DI DII and DIII have different schemes for getting athletes on campus for sports participation and the amount of scholarships it toto for different sports varies wildly as do the amounts to different athletes. DII IIRC has NO 'athletic' scholarships but they give the athletes academic scholarships that bear little resemblance to their academic level.

The NCAA would also have a say in how much eligibility they have and whether they lost it for the year they were expelled or whether they didn't and also if they lose a year for transferring albeit involuntarily.

Intermittent internet and checking my e-mail backlog.

My library is all excited about re-opening and has deluged me with e-mails about it without actually mentioning any specifics.

But my Lee Child Jack Reacher book has been renewed so I don't have to worry about not returning it by 4/6.

Thanks again, JOM, for posting links to news and stories I'd otherwise never see. Planning some quality time with Athena early this morning before the day heats up. In other news I have a fully functioning signal system on my model railroad. The layout is a 2 track main twice around loop with 7 control points. Bidirectional signaling either CTC or ABS with 2 head signals that can display 10 different aspects. There's something satisfying running trains and watching the signal system respond to the track conditions and commands from the CTC panel. The computer part was easy. The hard part is physically locating the signals trackside because I didn't plan for that when I started construction. Dang.

Mrs K points out that as far as anyone can tell, absent among all these health "experts" that are advising schools are any with understanding of mental health, and the impact of keeping kids isolated for many months. And that includes young kids as well as college kids. We're hearing about a lot of severe depression and anxiety. I fear the number of suicides will be vastly larger than the number of deaths from CV for those under 25.

I have told anyone who questions the time I've allowed my teen to spend with friends that we are prioritizing her mental health. I'm so tired of the Karens I could just scream.

My parents are visiting from TN and my dad just can't get over the people in their cars (alone) and walking around outside with masks on. He is convinced this is the downfall of the republic. I am feeling like my job offers me a reprieve from the bubble and keep reminding him that not everywhere is operating in the crazy.

That said, right before Cuomo set the new quarantine rules we bought CHEAP airline tickets to SC to go to the beach (Edisto - idyllic) at the end of the summer, so we might be paying the quarantine price when we fly home. Ah well.

Dr J--

my youngest the diva can because she started taking piano at 5 or 6. By high school if you cannot read music scores it gets very diificult to make all state chorus (probably band too) because you have to be able to sight read a new piece as part of auditions.

The diva was trying to tutor her friends and she couldn't understand their difficulty. I had to explain to her that since I taught her to read by making the pitch that letters had sounds and her friends had basically been left to sight read in public school programs they had never learned to treat marks as a symbol for sound.

It was an interesting epiphany and also a sad commentary on just how long the consequences of poor reading instruction can last.

Robin, Tiger Beat Pompom Girl Team Member

And good morning all! I've given up on trying to stay abreast of the news while my folks are visiting and the weather is so glorious. Maybe that's why I'm feeling so cheerful and upbeat!

OL, I hope your daughter does just hire a private teacher - opting out of the nonsense is the best message to send to these ninnies that they will pay a price. It was all kind of forgivable when we didn't understand what was happening in March, but now that we know the true mortality rate, as well as what is happening with students without home resources to keep up with the school work, it is simply inexcusable for the districts to consider staying closed to in-person learning.

Thanks for the comment. I'm pleased that the skill still is among us.

I can look at a score, and hear the music until it gets too complex. Perfect pitch helps, I suppose, but taking notes on a page into pitches takes some experience. I take it for granted, but I've realized that it is not common.

DrJ, I remember learning about 15 yrs ago when I was spending a lot of time in China that their kids had a high probability of having perfect pitch due to their language being very tonal specific. Apparently that early language learning developed the otherwise dormant trait. I think it was on the order of 1:10 or better, instead of 1:100 or worse here.

Susan Rice AND Scaramucci have both posted the Suicide Hotline this AM?

In Nov of 2009, the college-age daughter of my kids’ 7th grade teacher caught H1N1, then double pneumonia followed by ARDS. She spent 2.5 months in a coma, and we were all praying for her to recover. She had a tough row of rehab after she came out of the coma, but last fall she was saying that it all seemed like a bad dream.

Well she tested positive for COVID on Sunday. (She was the first new case in 10 days.) Then Thursday we heard she was hospitalized, which if true would only be the second hospitalization in the county. Then yesterday morning the story from her business partner (they are hair stylists) was that her mom was hospitalized too, which didn’t sound right because the last positive test in a female 60-80 was June 5.

Well yesterday’s health department announcement was two new cases, one male one female, both 60-80. (This brings the total of cases to 135, with 8 females and 7 males over 60.) And our assistant pastor (who is only ordained a year and I think is 27 or 28) announced that he’s in quarantine after contact with an infected parishioner in their town. (He was announcing what masses we have to cancel for the next two weeks because of his quarantine.) I haven’t heard any news yet, but am now wondering if yesterday’s cases are her mom AND dad.

This is what happens when you flatten the curve and lengthen it too much. It’s what happens when we waste quarantining resources on stupid low-risk karens and their low-risk children and all of the low-risk sheeple who give in to the hectoring of the karens. We are in a race against time where we need to protect the vulnerable while we let the infection rage through the low-risk. We can’t isolate the high-risk and their caretakers forever, so enough of the low-risk need to get infected and recovered so that they will form a firebreak around the vulnerable. Infecting the low-risk is like lighting a backfire, and the covidiots are pouring water on the backfire.
