WHO has a cryptic bit of news on COVID-19:
Asymptomatic spread of coronavirus is ‘very rare,’ WHO says
Hmm, so why are people without symptoms wearing masks, one might ask? One answer - to avoid stigmatizing those who do. But a second answer is, not so fast - WHO used a very strict definition of "asymptomatic" - plenty of folks with barely noticeable and/or unusual symptoms were not considered asymptomatic by WHO but would not be considered sick by most of us and were not considered symptomatic by the health authorities making the original reports:
The World Health Organization says it still believes the spread of the coronavirus from people without symptoms is “rare,” despite warnings from numerous experts worldwide that such transmission is more frequent and likely explains why the pandemic has been so hard to contain.
Maria Van Kerkhove, WHO’s technical lead on COVID-19 said at a press briefing on Monday that many countries are reporting cases of spread from people who are asymptomatic, or those with no clinical symptoms. But when questioned in more detail about these cases, Van Kerkhove said many of them turn out to have mild disease, or unusual symptoms.
Well then, confusing. I say "Defund WHO!", mainly because its not clear what that means either.
As is well known at the race track, Money Talks, Bull Dust Walks. And defunding the police might mean simply smaller police forces--or it may mean citizen funded security patrols since the cops aren't there any more. Or it may mean that henceforth suburban homes will be insured by Messrs. Smith & Wesson, Ruger or Colt. Maybe get a little European Help from Signor Beretta.

What does it mean that a smart guy like TM can countenance the thought of
a) senile Joe in charge
b) proven propagandists like CNN/NBC/NYT/etc are in charge of info delivery
c) the viewpoint of 60,000,000 people cannot be expressed at college grad ceremonies
d) senile MaligNancy is 3rd from the nuke button
e) this list of bad outcomes extends ad infinitum
How is it possible that Trump plus Grenell hobbled by GOPe to the point that they can't fire Pres staffers, can't get staff nominees confirmed, and so on, how is it possible for Trump to be worse than the list above?
Well, it's a tough question. But I'm now used to living with the uncertainty.

What if "studies" courses were limited to " general electives" status as opposed to "core" major REQUIREMENTS for the fluff crowd?
But, how could we have The Great Society if we didn't dumb it down so EVERY swingin' dick and karen-sky could "feel" included;or, if they are the white snowflake variety, they can "feel" shame and guilt over their "privilege?"/sarc
Posted by: KevlarKid | June 08, 2020 at 07:15 PM
Kev, sure give them all participation degrees. Just make it clear that a degree does not equal status. Status comes from value provided to society. More of that in farming, trades, or manufacturing than in “studies.”

Willowed...
have read two comments in this thread that disturb me. The first was a reference to Ezekiel Emmanuel as our own Mengele, and now another reference to Rosenswine. This is really offensive to me. Comparing Jews to the Nazis.
We are better than this
Zeke openly writes of his desire that people he deems insufficiently worthy of life should die at an age of his choosing, and had he the power, he would carry out that desire.
That is flat-out Nazi thinking. I don’t care if he’s Newish, I don’t care what his faith is. If he wants to implement a Nazi program, then Nazi comparisons are absolutely fair game.

Truly stunning that lockstep should emerge from prog philosophy. Kuhn on science paradigm shift, or Latour on rhetorical argument in shifting / defending paradigm seem at odds with Foucault and his Panopticon. Why does Foucault win here, instead of questioning authority, we are to be monitored and controlled by it? Polanyi and tacit knowledge seems and out, we know better but can’t verbalize, then Rorty vs pragmatism and throwing away what we know works. Mao’s little red book? That was stupid 40 years ago when I read it in Spence’s class. But that is where the MSM and Dems are today. They are the authority and we dare not question it.

“hermetically sealed bag with 300 rounds”
I buy in lots of 1000.
When the rumors that the violence would be brought to the ‘burbs started, I loaded up the rifle mags. Don’t be afraid to crack that bag, that ammo will last.
Go to your neighborhood surplus shop and get a .30 cal ammo can with a decent seal. Better storage than the bag.

Ig, in WWII during the build up to DDay, my grandfather reported to Marshall that the invasion troops had more ammo than they could carry. Further, the convoys would bring ammo faster than they shot it. Bedell Smith took his star for that (Marshall gave it back). My grandfather (and math) were right. Having a “supply dump” separate from today’s needs is a good thing. Ext might require another (dozen) 300 rd sealed packs, but a 20 for range use now and then makes sense.

If I can direct your attention to the right you'll notice Tom has a special section devoted to the Plame fiasco, an earlier example of the deep state conducting lawfare against a Republican administration without an underlying crime. As I recall TM was all over that mess early, and obviously followed it extensively. The fact that there was no crime (Armitage leaked the name) didn't matter to him. He excitedly covered the maneuvers to destroy the administration. I found it quite maddening at the time.
I guess what I'm trying to say is I'm not too surprised by his recent posts, and the gnashing of the teeth it seems to be causing. I've assumed he had a soft spot for the deep state since at least 2004.

Ext, as a good benchmark for .223 ammo, I use $.30/round. That’s sort of a running average for 1000 round cases. I’ve seen it as low as $.27 without any of the crap brands being considered and maybe up to $.35 in times like these, assuming you can even get it. It’s one of the reasons I generally avoid playing with the heavier stuff like .308, not to mention recoil.

Soylent, I shoot 30-06 in my deer rifle. Have friends in NE that give me ammo faster than I shoot it (I help them with production). They are backlogged up the wazoo in good times. The usual spots(SportsmansGuide, etc) might have bulk, but supply is spotty. That said, demand is lower than .223, so who knows? My AR pattern doodad is 308. I have a couple thousands rounds, so haven’t looked lately.

On Monday's Mark Levin Show, if NFL fans are systemically racist like Roger Goodell says, then people should want nothing to do with the league. If these professional sports owners and athletes think America has racist DNA then we should abandon the NFL, NBA, and the like. If we are racist then Goodell should step down and let an African American take his job. Interestingly, many of these sports-millionaire's specifically choose not to live in the communities that are being plagued by poor Democrat policies, like Watts, Harlem, or the South Side of Chicago and it’s not because they hate the police — it's because these hypocrites don't want to live in neighborhoods with high crime rates.

The NFL made a Faustian bargain with television. It's success depended on having a commissioner who made it his highest priority to have the league be an integral part of the fabric of society. That worked well under Pete Rozelle, where the league outgained all the other sports in being identified with the country in the fans eyes. Unfortunately his successors, particularly the present one, don't share his values. As a result, the ESPN types are in the cultural driver's seat. What Goodell, a very weak person, has said recently comes right from their script. This is why I've ignored the league for three seasons and the NBA's next.

Parking lot full, all tuned to an FM channel; I got a red rose; he got the badge, scarf, a lot of paper (including a commendation from the NE Secretary of State, which I gather is standard), a beautiful new folded U.S. flag, and a great staff--his dad and I think the latter should be used, not just saved, but he is at the moment enamoured of its shininess. He keeps walking around saying "now I'm really an Eagle." My favorite moment was when all the Eagles there (grown men in their cars) left their cars to stand and say the Eagle pledge--there were a lot of them! It was all pretty moving. God bless the good men (and women) who keep it all going, despite the many, many flaws of the national organization (I feel roughly the same about the Episcopal church).
