Thanks for linking that because I was unaware of it. The review is surely more interesting than the book it's about; I'm pretty sure the photographer was married to saxophonist David Murray briefly. It contains some Sun Ra minutiae I'll have to absorb. Fantastic musician. Extremely well read but always with the aim of proving his nutball views that he was from outer space. Coupe Deval's father was a long time saxophonist in his band but the real stud in the band was John Gilmore who influenced Coltrane. Gilmore only played apart from the group a very few times I know of:
I think that eviction article was a little overwrought.
Evictions that were in the works prior to Covid-19 will now begin to proceed.
People had an opportunity to cure the problem or save up enough money to start over elsewhere. It's not like it's a "new" event for them. And it's not a particularly a good idea to assume that all evictions pending will be due to finances. Many evictions are are initiated because of bad behavior.
‘Rent Strike’ Signs Hang In Windows Of Acacia Apartments As Eviction Moratorium Ends
"Signs hang in windows that read “Rent Strike.” For the Acacia Apartments at 14th Avenue and Pennsylvania, the coronavirus rent moratorium has brought a rent standoff with some tenants.
Brand Willis is one of those tenants.
“So we have withheld our rent indefinitely,” he said."
Some people seem to think they are entitled to "free" money.
If you have a legitimate complaint a judge will listen to you after you give him the money due. If you don't bring that money to court and have a damn good lawyer kiss your apartment goodbye.
Well they do make the worse possible argument, i lost my job or have barely able to make ends meet. I didnt receive unemployment or just a trickle You arent merely defiant,
It kinda sounds like this is just one more activist group trying to stir up a controversy and idiots are getting caught up in it.
NJ, and I'm sure many other states, have existing programs that help tenants avoid eviction with emergency aid payments. I suspect that some groups are arguing that the Feds should be shoveling money into these programs.
I think a decent landlord like OL will work with his "good" tenants. There are a lot of ways that can be done before beginning an eviction proceeding.
If you have a decent set of holdings you can weather a few missed payments. That is going to be a lot harder for an owner-occupied two or four family house.
If somebody isn't going to be able to afford their current rent very soon they should voluntarily down-size with a full discussion with their current landlord.
There won't be enough money available to maintain everyone in their current abodes. People that proactively plan and work with their landlords will find solutions. People that avoid their situation will suffer the consequences.
Kind of a short list ....
I try to keep in mind items like health, food, roof over head, good weather, nice music, God's love for all us Deists, well the list begins to pick up steam at that point.
I heard that Lindsey Graham gave into Democrat demands to call Mueller to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee about Stone. I suspect and hope that he "gave in" the sense Br'er Rabbit gave into to be tossed into the briar patch.
I want to problematize the concepts of "reliability" and "loyalty" as desirable qualities in an employee.
It's part of capitalist white supremacy to believe that people should love their job or do it with enthusiasm, or even do it consistently "well" if their needs are not met
Lightning protection. Back in 84, one of my very first detectors was installed in Melbourne FL. We put in all the normal protections: ground rods, isolation transformer, battery backup, arrestors, etc. wasn’t very long before lightning took much of it out. Charred circuit boards, the whole bit.
Found out a nearly secret fix: chemical ground rods. Fairly widely used in places like FL where the native soil resistivity is crap. Some substations have huge arrays of them to handle the energy dumped by a strike.
So, thereafter we put two chemical rods on diagonal corners of the bungalow and conventional rods in the alternate corners (for code) and bonded them all together with heavy copper which tied to Mecca (ground plate) inside the bungalow where all the big arrestors came together. 200 systems later, never lost one to lightning.
When we redid our place here on the rock, I put a chemical ‘bed’ in the leach field close to the house and welded the copper to the steel frame behind the glass wall and referenced the power neutral to that. The live rock everything else is anchored to doesn’t suck much charge, so we we’re pretty vulnerable without it.

The most outrageous lies are the ones about Covid 19. Everyone is lying. The CDC, Media, Democrats, our Doctors, not all but most, that we are told to trust. I think it's all about the election and keeping the economy from coming back, which is about the election. I'm sick of it.

Stuff like "cis gendered heteronormity bias revealed in dog parks"-- all complete and utter nonsense.
He says some truly amazing things (for someone other than Kayleigh McEnany) about these utterly contrived "areas of scholarship", and is especially scathing about the woman who is peddling her White Fragility book.

Posted by: jim nj | July 13, 2020 at 01:13 AM
From the Zerohedge article
https://denver.cbslocal.com/2020/07/10/coronavirus-evictions-denver-acacia-apartments/

Seriously a tenant union, thats just craziness
Posted by: Narciso | July 13, 2020 at 01:29 AM
Narciso,
I think a decent landlord like OL will work with his "good" tenants.

I want to problematize the concepts of "reliability" and "loyalty" as desirable qualities in an employee.

JiB and Henry,
Lightning protection.

Got three hours?
Want to listen to Joe Rogan talk with James Lindsay, THE expert on wokeness???
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FtNW3I1FZ5o
He does a fabulous analysis, critique, and total take down of what is going on.
Lindsay is the fellow who (along with two others) wrote twenty papers in one twelve month period, all of which were published in social "science" academic journals--one even winning a prize!
No conservative he--so completely A-Ok for sharing with ANY of your friends and family.
(Well, ones who won't mind the two minute discussion on farts.)
So, go for that long drive, hike, clean out the garage--
Not that anything will relieve any anxiety, but it is good to learn we are not the only people who see this crap for the crap it is.

Yes, praising Cuomo for the drop in COVID deaths in New York would be (Godwin's Law alert) a bit like praising Hitler for the decline in murders of Jews in Europe after 1945.

This is a scandal begging for press coverage:
333 FL Covid Testing labs reported 100% positive tests today in State Report for 3,528 tests.
That is 34% of today's 10,360 new cases.
Without these, today's "percent positive" would fall from 12.6% to 8.7%.
