Trump had a baffling tweet suggesting we might need to delay the election until it was safe to vote.
In a calm, measured reaction the head of the Federalist Society said a speculative tweet like this is grounds for immediate impeachment. OK, that's a bit of an over-reaction but it is revealing that a prominent conservative and beneficiary of the Trump/McConnell Judge Confirmation Assembly Line would openly rebel over, well, nothing.
Yuval Levin of National Review takes us through election law. Timing is up to Congress and some tweaks might make sense for 2020 since we will have a surge of mail-in ballots to count:
But there may well be a way for Congress to help the election go more smoothly in those later two parts of the code I just cited above. The problem mail-in voting can create, especially in jurisdictions that aren’t used to so much of it, isn’t about fraud but about delays in counting and verifying results. So what may need to be adjusted is not the date of the election but the Electoral College deadlines that follow it.
I made a case for a reform like this (with Kevin Johnson of the Election Reformers Network) earlier this month in the Washington Post. As things now stand, election day is November 3, states need to finalize their results by December 8 to avoid their being challenged in Congress, and then members of the Electoral College are to meet on December 14. Congress certifies the results on January 6, and the winner is inaugurated January 20. That means that there are 78 days between the election and the inauguration, but states have only 35 of those days to finalize their results. As we’ve seen in some primaries this year, that simply may not be enough time in some contested states.
So rather than changing the election date, Congress should act to push back—just for this year—the date by which states have to finalize results and the date on which the electors meet. Pushing those back by two or three weeks could give contested states a lot more breathing room to deal with the actual challenges involved in mail-in voting while the election, certification, and inauguration would all go on as scheduled.

There are indictments. They have indicted some Chinese, a scientist (biochemist, I think) from Yale, and there are indictments of some of the small fry being opened today.

I figure that every songwriter feels a need to belt 'em out themselves. If you're James Taylor, no problem, you can sing. If you're Gordon Lightfoot or Kris Kristofferson, you do the best you can and sound fine in the studio. But if you're Buzzy Linhart, it's a challenge. Linhart wrote "Friends", which was a hit for Bette Midler. When I was a teen, he had an album "Pussycats Can Go Far" which was popular where I grew up on Long Island. Years later I saw him play at Folk City in the Village, which was memorable.
Anyway, Buzzy couldn't sing, but he wrote one terrific song in "Loves Still Growing". Carly Simon covered it, I'd always thought she'd written it but I should've suspected that it was too high quality for her pen. Two of the Roche singers, who were great singers, covered it as well. Both covers try to stay as true to the source as possible, and that's the great thing about the song - Buzzy lays out a very specific blueprint for the song despite clearly being unable to bring it off himself - in fact, towards the end of the song he pretty much just starts wailing off-key on purpose. But you still know what he's intended, and while those who actually can hold a note make it beautiful, in a way nothing can beat the songwriter with his creation and his cracking voice.

I am not convinced - but she is with the conviction Jihadists have for Allah - his goals are 100% in alignment with mine.
I know you're being rhetorical, OL, but you have to admit that's a pretty high standard. I'd be happy with 60%.
But really, it's not so much about the goals but about the potential for the strategies to attain the goals. You must admit he's had practically everything working against him. Every EO gets slapped down by an Obama judge. McCain's last dying act was to screw him over the Obamacare repeal. And so on.
As I've said before, whenever things seem dark, remember how close we were to having Hillary has President, and how the last 3.5 years would have played out.

For decades we have been telling Americans to follow the guidance of medical experts when it comes to public health issues. It is ingrained in the national conscience. And this goes for most developed countries around the world.
These institutions have become very powerful (and very corrupt) with massive government funding and they all work together around the world in lockstep. All of them bow down before the WHO when it comes to pandemic issues and the WHO is now controlled by China. Even knowing how corrupt it has become and dominated by our enemy many Americans just follow them like drones.
Couple that with Trump rightly saying that states need to make local decisions based on local conditions and a weaponized Democrat party looking for anyway possible and you have a perfect storm of an issue the left can use to beat on Trump and Republicans.
Trump rarely wears a mask so the germaphobe thing doesn't work. He's called for states to open as fast as possible and for schools to open in the fall and the left is fighting him every step of the way because they care more about politics and power than kids.
This situation is like having a natural disaster hitting the country for going on 6 months now with half the country working to make it worse by prolonging it because November is coming and they are desperate to get rid of Trump. We're in a war for the soul of the country and only one side seems to know it. Trump knows it.

I was grumpy yesterday because hubby put on his safety goggles and a black mask and took a picture to send to his Karen sister. Not funny,I said. Then the news about Herman Cain and the media reaction. Howie Carr usually plays audio of idiot reporters and/or politicians and their idiot statements at the top of every hour. Yesterday afternoon he played the media's comments about Herman Cain and OMG! He went to a Trump rally and then he died. Doesn't fit the narrative.
No it doesn't. I've been posting my friend Bill Crane from WSB, who is their political commentator every election cycle and frequent guest on Herman's show all over the nets to correct the narrative.
I spent a worthless several comments last night with a sister of another of our HS friends as she argued that, since she couldn't find another source on the net for this claim that Bill posted to his personal FB page filled with his personal rememberances of Herman, it didn't happen that way and until I could post a source from a reported website like WSBs or the NYT, it is false.
Some days you wonder why you argue with a brick wall. Some days you stupidly keep banging your head against that wall. I have a headache.

Dave-
To clarify, I just had to explain it to someone who really should know better using cars and semis on a hill, and not you.

Yeah, I got that, Mel.
Speaking of Herman Cain, maybe Newsmax should think about changing their ad promoting their network featuring shows like the Herman Cain Show. I hear it multiple times per day.

clarice,
Cost-benefit analysis! If you look at how President He-Who-Must_Not-Be_Named does things, it's almost all by that method, including cleaning up the environment.
He recognizes how wasteful it is to pay someone to clean a section of the environment here which is already pretty clean, when he could remove a great deal more pollution in India or Bangladesh. For that matter, you probably get more clean-up for the buck cleaning up Harlem rather than Westchester.
He also probably recognizes the grifters who are looking for an easy buck. ANOTHER reason why the "elite" don't like him!
I will also always be grateful for this bit of wisdom:
"In other words, if the US “poor” were a nation, it would be one of the world’s richest. "
I am going to print that out and whenever I start feeling sorry for myself, make myself read it a couple of times.

How did your cars/semis analogy go? It might be useful when we're off on other venues arguing with TDSers.

Jane,
Thanks for letting us know about Herman Cain's daughter being sick with the virus, and him taking her to the hospital. Where did you hear that? I want to be ready to quote with some of these jerks.
