Well, I see the ER doc did a thorough job, and checked the urine! Glad that's all it is.

Drinking two quarts of water a day will help him avoid another one.
Easiest to do if he has a quart water bottle and empties that twice.

Dave (in MA)

Double Twobits, that is.

Anyways im up 45,000 words in my novella, and ive probably covered events that would take twice as many pages.

clarice

Good news, porch. My mother had one which was not being treated at all by the idiot doctors in her HMO in South Fla which is why I finally had to bring her up here where she could get medical treatment. It's very dangerous in the elderly.

Narc, he has a place on MV. No wonder I never go there. Not a big fan of Nantucket either. But most year rounders here travel to other local areas. He sounds even worse than I thought.

Porchlight

Yes, amom, it was a UTI. Apologies again for the panic. I thought at first it must be some kind of infection but then I started to spiral about the rona. Unusual for me. :)

DrJ

Speaking of July birthdays, MrsJ's is on 7/10 (she just turned 70) and my ex's is on 7/7.

Porchlight

clarice, thanks, I have learned that about UTIs in the elderly. A friend's aunt had a violent episode in the nursing home which turned out to be the result of an untreated UTI. Tricky things.

Narciso

Porch prayers up for your dad. Glad to see it seems to be under control.

#BREAKING: John Lewis' family says he will be honored over a series of ceremonies that spans 6 days to celebrate his life.

Holy Cow... is there some kind of contest to see who can drag these out the longest?

Narciso

Pharoah says come on now.

Gentlejim

Porch,
It’s been said and I’ll repeat it. You have zero reason to apologize. My dad has had numerous battles with the old UTI. Happy to hear yours will be good. Make sure the family has him drink his water.

Professor Mike Adams, who taught sociology and criminology at UNC-Wilmington, was found dead in his home earlier today by New Hanover County sheriff’s deputies:

His forced “retirement” was announced just a few weeks ago. It came after UNC-W students and faculty launched a campaign to have Adams fired after supposedly “insensitive” and “polarizing” tweets he posted earlier this year:

Jane

Great news Porch! You’ve had a tough night!

CCGirl

I wondered if there would be some kind of John McCain type funeral. Will they all wear masks and social distance, and only allow 25 people to attend, or whatever the number is. I think it’s up from ten in Mass now.

Also, what’s with all these pols dying while still in office. Since when does everyone work until the day they die in govt? My father did, but he was self employed, and very healthy. Just a fluke for him. I remember telling my son when in high school, and thought Washington was over rated. I said do you know that after he won the war he went home? That’s some kind of humility that these corrupt pols do not have.

Momto2

Porch - I know you are relieved about your dad and we are, too!

Stephanie - I noticed driving through Atl after our little JOM lunch (where you were missed!) that they were projecting John Lewis' face on the tower/billboard in downtown. I thought then this will be a McCain type event.

What is the political message the Democrats are sending by trying to imprison the McCloskeys in St. Louis? Can it be anything other than: “We will send mobs to terrorize you at home. Resist, and we’ll send your husband to get raped in prison”? Is there some other meaning we can take away from this? Can Trump possibly lose in November if his campaign takes this message and rams it home for the next three and a half months? from John Zmirak
https://stream.org/questions-so-many-questions/

Ignatz Ratzkiwatzki

That's a horrible story about Mike Adams.
He used to destroy those academy a-holes right down in the trenches while somehow retaining his good humor.

Buckeye

He looked manlier doing it than Big Mike's hubby little bitch, though.

FIFY Dave in MA

CCGirl

Momto2, that’s an interesting link. What’s the deal with the Cartoon Network ad? The site asks if this is real. Is it? If so, then there truly are demons living among us. Lately I see so many weird things online, but so much can be fake. It’s all so strange.

Remember the real start of the campaign always begins after Labor Day. Things may be different this year, but I still think it will be the usual. Including October surprises. Of course it will all be ramped up this beyond the max. Why cut back in 2020!?

Porchlight

Thank you all! Gentlejim, thank you for the tip on drinking water. I think I can count on one hand the number of times I have seen my dad drinking water. :)

Drinking a giant 24 ounce craft beer crowler that my MN buddy gave me a couple of weeks ago. Tastes GOOD.

Stephanie Nene Not Your Normal Granma

Sorry I couldn't be there Momto2. I went down to Amelia to fetch my mom. She went to visit her sister after dad's funeral.

Oh and I spent several days at the beach. Never let a crisis road trip go to waste.

Porchlight

I said do you know that after he won the war he went home? That’s some kind of humility that these corrupt pols do not have.

Yes. I don't think young people really understand how important that was. It wasn't until I was much older that I understood Washington's greatness.

Porchlight

I didn't know who Mike Adams was before tonight, but that is horrible.

I loathe the mob (it is all one: cancel culture, toxic femininism, BLM and Antifa) and pray they get their just deserts.

Porchlight

Stephanie, you are the road trip queen. I can only admire your skill from here in Texas. I hope your mom had a good visit with her sister.

CCGirl

Same here, Porch.

Not enough time to be young and learn all the wisdom at the same time. Unfortunately due to social media we now have to listen 24/7 to the young nuts who I hope will become conservatives down the road. And hopefully they won’t wreck this country before then.

You must be tired. Glad you are enjoying the beer. I enjoy this site. I can sit on my sofa with my beloved dog, ignore my husband, and have several cocktails while I chat with like minded friends. It’s like having my own personal bar!

jimmyk

Porch, I semi-panicked here 4-5 years ago when my Dad (then around 94) had a UTI. I figured at that age any kind of infection could be the end. But here we are and he'll (God willing) turn 99 this year. A few weeks ago he had a bout of weakness and disorientation, and we were concerned about a stroke or something along those lines. But it passed and he's fine now.

And for anyone else with very elderly parents, we've discovered the wonders of FaceTime. He was increasingly hard to talk to on the phone--he's hard of hearing and not entirely sharp mentally, and seemed to lose interest on the phone. But FaceTime makes a huge difference. (He has an aide with an iPhone who kindly sets it up.) He seems to enjoy the conversations and can "hear" better because he can see us talking. When we spoke on Monday he even said, "This is a really remarkable technology!"

jimmyk

On those players taking a knee (eye roll), a friend sent me this South Park clip from a few years ago.

https://southpark.cc.com/clips/w36cls/will-she-sit-or-stand

It's about a minute and a half, and worth watching to the end for an eerily prescient moment.

Porchlight

Thank you GUS, MM, lurkersusie, jimmyk. MM, I have great hopes for your daughter's test results.

That's really sweet about Facetime. It makes sense - why wouldn't it be a huge improvement over the phone for older folks who need a little bit of lip reading? I've enjoyed our family zooms and the ones with my college classmates. My only problem with them is that people talk about the rona too much. And it's a bit hard to hear on my crummy Chromebook. I'm sure Facetime is much better.

CCGirl

Gus, there are demons among us. I am sure of that. I asked my oldest when she went to Greece last year to get me a cross, I was thinking of the Orthodox crosses, and one for the wall. She returned with a small necklace cross and said she wasn’t sure what I wanted. I get that. I never specified. I bought a chain for that cross and have worn it 24/7 since.

Husband hates the baseball issue, and really is not watching much as the night goes on.

My very very youngish M-I-L, Sue has been gone for nearly 3 months. I will always miss her, as she was my Mother in law, and then my Mom, as I lost my Mother 10 years ago this FEB.
Dad, Mrs Gus's Dad was roughly 10 years older than his 57 year bride. He is doing very well (seemingly), he is and always was, a simple man, hard working, very very devout to his CATHOLIC faith, and he was also very dependent on his bride Sue, to run the household, cook, clean, pay the bills, and keep the 4 kids in order. ALL COLLEGE GRADS, and all first class people. Dad, my Father in law...Jim....same name as my late Father, was just a good man. He was a BRICK LAYER, for well over 40 years, after his ARMY MILITARY SERVICE overseas.
Anyway, DAD, seems to be OK, I thought about him as I walked past my pool on my deck today. Stoic, kind, a great father, a provider, and a wonderful Husband, and Catholic.
Only DAD, and GOD, knows, how his heart feels about life NOW. Dad is 87 years old and very healthy. I've noticed him slowing down in the last 4 or 5 years old. I think that is amazing.
His Mom......GAMMIE...... lived to 96.
The mess the DISGUSTING LEFT has created, makes a mockery of everything this man has stood for.
I WON'T FORGET. EVER.

Porchlight

I had a wild time in Greece back in junior year in college.

I bought a little silver fish pendant at a market in the Plaka in Athens, but I lost it. Really wish it would turn up. A cross would be good to have, too. But I have other special crosses from other places.

Captain Hate

Has Treacher always been a NT and I've just ignored him until Twichy included one of his responses to idiot Kristof?

Melinda

Yep.

Porchlight

>His Mom......GAMMIE...... lived to 96.

Remarkable, GUS. Thanks for your story. Glad Dad is still trucking.

I have always loved the nicknames kids find for their grandparents, especially in the South.

My parents are just "Grandma" and "Grandpa" to my kids, because Mr Porch is an orphan, so my folks are the only grandparents they have and there's no need to make any distinction.

But Mr Porch's paternal grandfather was called "Gate Gate" ("kid" talk for "Great Great"). And his mom's stepdad (her dad died when she was young) was called "Dampaw." He was a hard man, so it fit.

But we know Opas, Omas, Nanas, Poppys, Grampys, Meemaws, Mimis, and one Sparky.

Porchlight

Has Treacher always been a NT and I've just ignored him until Twichy included one of his responses to idiot Kristof?

Yeah. He's on Allahpundit level, only slightly funnier.

GUS

ccgirl. I am Catholic. I love being Catholic. I recognize and I regret and pray for the MISTAKES and CRIMES committed by the CATHOLIC CLERGY, and the less than appropriate response by the Holy Roman and Apostolic Church of St Peter's phalanx of LAWYERS. It has sickened me, and new tales of corruption continue to shake my faith.
THE TRUTH of JESUS CHRIST, and the GOSPEL remains, and keeps me faithful to JESUS own church, NOT TO THE CORRUPTION. No different than THE FBI and the DISGUSTING CORRUPTION of the DOJ, FBI and INTEL AGENCIES, does not make me RENOUNCE MY CITIZENSHIP in the USA. To be honest, I've never been closer to rejecting the U.S.A. than I am now. But, trust me, I'll stay the course.
My Niece will graduate from the AIR FORCE ACADEMY in MAY. She is in the top 4% of her class. My son is 4.0 and DEANS LIST one year into his college career in ELEC ENGINEERING. He was admitted to the ELEC ENGINEERING program as a FRESHMAN, so he isn't "CRUISING".

WE, my son and niece, and you and me, and our JOM FRIENDS, and those we love and respect...WILL MAKE THIS NATION GREAT AGAIN.

CCGirl

Daughter and I spent two days skiing in NH in January. She told me over wine, in our very weird air bnb, when she and her two friends traveled from Athens to Thessolonia (or some such). 3 young women, two of them had their cell phones stolen. And these girls are not inexperienced travelers. They were left with the third girl having an iPad with online access in certain areas. They got a cab to their air bnb and found out the cab dropped them off at the wrong place. They found a pizza place, and the locals helped them communicate with the air bnb host. They walked a mile down the road to the place. Turns out he was a professor who loves America, and he gave them dinner and a detailed map with directions about where to go and what to avoid. They were very lucky.

Porchlight

The stories you hear much later, ccgirl. :)

No cell phones when we were there in 1990. We were such babes in the woods.

But even when a college friend and I returned to London in 2008 when we were 40, we still had troubles. We wanted to go to a pub on the Thames that Dickens had frequented (The Prospect of Whitby) and it turned out that was a very ISIS type neighborhood.

Fortunately our cabbie, and a very nice young woman who walked with us after we got dropped off, helped orient us to the danger of the neighborhood.

Even middle aged women can't always figure it out on their own.

Narciso

Porchlight

He still owes the Horde an apology for that Friday night meltdown he had long ago.

Which one was that, Cap'n? I missed it.

GUS

Pin, it's just something about AL GORE RHYTHMS.
Nothing to see here. For a long time, JACK-OFF DORSEY, tried to splain to CONGRESS, that his DEMOCRAT OPERATION, was not being censored by HUMANS, rather, ROBOTS, had devised AL GORE RHYTHMS.
Same happened to me over the last 5 years, as I researched LYNCHINGS. It seems HIGH TECH, LOW TECH, and even IN BETWEEN LYNCHINGS were the RAGE in LIBTARD TALKING POINTS. When I learned that BLACK on BLACK murders in AMERICAN CITIES were EXPONENTIALLY more numerous, than ALL THE LYNCHINGS in AMERICAN HISTORY.

THE DATA VANISHED FROM GOOGLE.

Captain Hate

One Friday night he was either drunk and/or pain pilled up and took exception to a comment Empire of Jeff made about getting hit by a car, for which he immediately apologized, and just started trashing everyone. The 'ettes were trying to calm him down and he was calling them all whores and sluts. It was really ugly and I found out about it the next day because AT&T mistakenly cut off all my service, so I couldn't join in on telling that pile of shit to fuck off.

Captain Hate

I think ace wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt and probably contacted him by DM or something but if so it yielded nothing because he hasn't come back. People would've cut him slack if he even gave a half assed semi apology but obviously that was a step too far which provided all the info I needed to know about the content of his character.

Porchlight

Dang, Cap'n. What a sorry little see you next Tuesday.

Porchlight

He has problems. And a major one is not being able to understand where he's gone wrong.

GUS

Capn, Ace isn't the product. THE HORDE is.

You know the guy is loosey goooooosey. He's one pill shy of being POOOOOOOOOOOTER BOY.
The people who post, ARE THE DRAW.

Captain Hate

Yep. Ok its Nytol time.

Good news about your dad, Porch. Frankly the being tired made me think it was something non Wuhan, and possibly worse, so the prayers obviously didn't hurt.

CCGirl

Okay, I decided to stay up against my better judgement. What is “the horde?” I think I know, but now I have had enough cocktails to be brave and admit that I don’t know. What I really hate is that I am typing this and so now it’s permanent. If were we just chatting in a bar...

Narciso

The horde is the collective mind of ace of spades, manifested in its threads.

Captain Hate

Gus, ace has gotten a lot better. It's been a long time since he's waded in the comments looking for a fight. When his weird fasting gets to him he's pretty honest about it and sticks up open threads or has the coblogs pick up the slack. I don't blame you or Miss Marple for being upset at him, and I took a self imposed hike for a while based on how he treated you two and Empire of Jeff. But even one of the coblogs I've emailed have said the days of them having to do damage control are over. Plus Malor left...

GUS

ccgirl, you are smart and catch on fast.
THE HORDE, is the group, the large group, that inhabits, ACE of SPADES blog.

Capn, MissM, and I met there many years ago.
Nice blog, but not like JOM. You've figured out JOM already, and I can tell you as a long time vet here. EVERYBODY LOVES YOU.

Captain Hate

Yes, we are the Horde.

And now really Nytol.

Porchlight

Thanks Cap'n. That was also my first instinct but of course one sometimes catastrophizes when symptoms aren't familiar. Plus, my mom is a worrier of the first water, so there was that.

CCGirl

Thanks. I appreciate the explanation. I had it all wrong, and now it makes sense. I don’t visit Ace of Spades. I tried, but not for me. I visit a bunch of sites. I do like powerline on certain days. I also peruse ricochet, and front page mag. I found a lot of sites during the “knitting rebellion” (just making that name up).

Mostly I read powerline, red state, real clear politics, and here. Then if I have time I read ricochet and frontline. There are other great sites I have found thru powerline, but there’s only so much time in a day.

CCGirl

I could stay up all night. But no. Sadly heading to bed. Must bring the velociraptor dog to the vet at 9 am for his nail trimming. If you knew me you would laugh. There is no way anyone would predict that I would even have a dog, never mind a “special” dog. After that it’s paperwork. One of my “blessings.” Not saying that sarcastically. I’m very blessed to have my business. Okay. Now too much blather. Off to bed.

Porchlight

Goodnight, ccgirl!

They have valet only and a big black rolls royce suv, still with dealer tag, pulled in ahead of me. I told the valet my suv would be a let down, but he said "no ma'am, yours will be easier to park."

Smoked salmon cured there over three days, truffle fries that were a big hit, and then we all settled on the crunchy shrimp salad with a surprise fried onion ring in the middle as the entree.

I think you would have enjoyed it as well. Sent catsmeat south to pick 75 back up at west paces. My dad used to call that part of ATL "Bungalow Hills' for irony.
