Climate kabuki. Fossil fuels will be key for the foreseeable future. Nuke could help tremendously, except that a boisterous nuke program will probably be stymied by the same people wailing about the need for "clean" energy. Most of the rest is governmental graft.

Perhaps DARPA is conducting research that will ultimately produce alt-energy. Mask or no mask, I'm not holding my breath.

Thomas Collins

I'm going to make a wild guess: The next gen reactors will be subservient to AOC led incentives for windmills.

Marlene

Good Morning! TK, get well soon!

Old Lurker

Is TK the first JOMer with the bug?

Dave (in MA)

When they come for my A/C and my internal-combustion engine, I can beat the crap out of them and say "I just wanted some bread" when the defunded police don't show up.

GUS

Dave, the answer is yes, but you must use a baseball bat.

On the NY Times' attempt to get Biden out of the debates with the fact checking proposal: I think the fact checking idea for the debates would work under the right framework. My idea: Trump picks a fact checker, and Biden picks one. After the debate, the fact checkers duke it out for an hour. Probably more entertaining than the debate itself.

My suggestion to Trump for his fact checker: Kayleigh McEnaney.

GUS

Biden needs to be on stage in his wheelchair.

Captain Hate

Is TK the first JOMer with the bug?

Maybe the first with an adverse reaction to it. Who knows?

GUS

There is some fantastic news in NASCAR.

Bubba Wallace (who is a NEGRO) came in 21st last night. He won the participation trophy for highest finishing Negro.

Old Lurker

Good point Cap'n!

Captain Hate

I missed this from Tuesday, but Ronnie Jackson, former WH physician and Trump supporter, won his primary run off against the usual GOPe stooge. Of course, Trump went in big for Jackson who came really from no where to knock off his more "Republican connected" opponent.

Poll trolls love themselves some liberal polls, but you never hear about how, when there is real voting, the other side is getting simply shelled...you have to look for it.

OL,

There is such a lack of useful information on this, surely by design. I live in a DeWine designated DANGER COUNTY and either I've had it with no harmful repercussions or I haven't got it. I'm not losing any sleep over it either way.

Old Lurker

Had Fauci been right, shouldn't about half of JOMers be dead by now or something?

TK took one for the team it seems.

Thomas Collins

Melinda, is the bottom line that FDA will continue to allow marketing and sale of possibly useless masks for disease prevention if certain disclosure requirements are met? That's my read. Of course, FDA promulgations are more difficult to interpret than trust indentures! :-)

MissMarple2

https://www.nytimes.com/1984/04/08/magazine/the-expanding-empire-of-donald-trump.html

A New York Times reporter followed him around and this is a really fascinating piece, in which you can learn some things like this:

"He says that his concern for nuclear holocaust is not one that popped into his mind during any recent made-of-television movie. He says that it has been troubling him since his uncle, a nuclear physicist, began talking to him about it 15 years ago.

His greatest dream is to personally do something about the problem and, characteristially, Donald Trump thinks he has an answer to nuclear armament: Let him engotiate arms agreements - he who can talk people into selling $100 million properties to him for $13 million. Negotiations is an art, he says and I have a gift for it."

No subscription or fee required. Its from an article in their magazine in 1984, when they didn't think he was evil or stupid. He also probably saved New York City.

henry

Yeah. AGW, just as much science as Kung Flu mask effectiveness, slightly less thancold fusion or perpetual motion.

Jane

I have a new Iphone and managed to get it going - but it won't make sound. I have the volume on but get no notifictions of messages and calls. The volume is up. But it's very rude! Any ideas?

henry

TC, is ACA medical device tax still going? That’s a lot of back taxes to collect.

henry

Jane, is the Bluetooth turned on? The new phone may be linked to the stupid ear pods (or whatever they call them)

Dave (in MA)

GUS, it wasn't a question.

You could try hooking up some wired headphones.
Since the Cupertino Geniuses didn't provide you with one, you'll need to drill your own headphone jack with a 3.5mm drill bit.

Old Lurker

If Dave's advice does not work, place it on your driveway and drive over it with your car.

Thomas Collins

In late 2019, henry, the moratorium on the MDT morphed into an outright repeal. No more MDT (for now, at least).

What humanity needs: The Viagra Face Mask. Soft and comfortable until one gets within six feet of someone else, at which point the mask stiffens up and provides maximum protection.

Then, when the threat subsides, back to a flaccid mask.

I ridicule iPhones, but my old Android phone has its own issues, like how it gets so slow sometimes that incoming calls go to voicemail before the Answer control even becomes responsive.

Rocco

Ah thanks Jane. I'm on a quest to find that perfect cup of coffee, hence the AeroPress I just ordered. I drink it black and no matter how hard I try, I just can't get rid of that bitter taste brewing at home. I clean often with vinegar and change the charcoal filters but usually when I need a filter, I'm out. But thanks, I was just curious.

MissMarple2

Hey. We need people lobbying Congress to get rid of face masks.

We won't even have to pay them. All we have to do is remind certain industries that THEIR sales will plummet if we are still forced to wear them indefinitely: Make-up/cosmetics, plastic surgeons, orthodontists, dance studios, gymnastics teachers, etc.

Old Lurker

Dave, when my phone gives be trouble, I just unplug it from the wall.

Neo

Philly sports radio WIP is saying right now that The Washington Post is readying a blockbuster expose in Washington Redskins owner Dan Snyder, not directly related to the changing of the team's name.

They wouldn't hint at what the rumors are, because the story is being 'vetted by the lawyers' for the usual Post accuracy, but Twitter tweets are saying Snyder is being investigated on sex trafficking allegations.

'He was on Epstein's list,' says a Hip Magazine tweet, which says Jay Gruden, Jaguars' offensive coordinator, was on the same list.

Which makes you wonder if Snyder ultimately was blackmailed into changing the team name (which of course is about to be changed).

Old Lurker

TC, your 12:16 is a pretty good description of the body's own immune system.

He uses what Spock referred to in Star Trek 4 as “colorful language”.

Jane,
The mute button is on the other right side of the iPhone (See left side). Also check “sounds and haptics” in settings for each function

Old Lurker

Speaking of telephones...

Here is what I want to but for my landline.

A telephone that:

Does not ring at all unless the caller is hard programmed into my directory. (White Listed)

Sends all other calls to voicemail, knowing most junk calls will hang up.

Dave (in MA)

The Washington Youngskins.

Extraneus

That's how I set up my Android. Do Not Disturb unless you're in my favorites.

Captain Hate

OL,

Ditch your landline. In my cell I've got every number of people I want to hear from. If an unrecognized number pops up I trash it immediately; same with people I'm not in the mood to talk with. If it's someone important they'll leave a message. I felt liberated from pests.

Btw what was the service others were recommending? The thrill is gone with Straight Talk.

Another Bob

“ those dorks did away with that”

They do make an adapter if you have a favorite set of ‘phones.

I think they think everyone is Bluetooth anymore.

Captain Hate

Bingo. Thanks Gentlejim.

It isn’t as if Target is going to get a “back to school” sales boom this August. The clowns running the school districts aren’t allowing anyone back to school this fall.

My idiot Mayor has closed our beaches just ahead of what is to be the hottest weekend of the summer. We’re looking at close to 100 degrees. He cites the influx of guests from IL and lack of social distancing as reasons. The beach closures will exacerbate the problem of already crowded beaches in the town where I work. My idiot county is bludgeoning us with mandatory masks starting tomorrow.

Manuel Transmission

This just came in over the transom and is not verified. Maybe someone here can validate.

The Japanese professor of physiology or medicine, Professor Dr Tasuku Honjo, caused a sensation today in the media by saying that the corona virus is not natural. if it is natural, it will not have affected the whole world like that. Because, depending on the nature, the temperature is different in different countries. if it were natural, it would only have affected countries with the same temperature as China. instead, it spreads to a country like Switzerland, the same way it spreads to desert areas. whereas if it were natural, it would have spread in cold places, but would have died in hot places. I have done 40 years of research on animals and viruses. It is not natural. It is manufactured and the virus is completely artificial. I have been working for 4 years in the Wuhan laboratory in China. I know all the staff of this laboratory well. I called them all after the Corona accident. but, all of their phones have been dead for 3 months. It is now understood that all of these laboratory technicians are dead. Based on all of my knowledge and research to date, I can say this with 100% confidence that Corona is not natural. It did not come from bats. China made it. if what I say today turns out to be false now or even after I die, the government can withdraw my Nobel Prize. but China is lying and this truth will one day be revealed to all. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tasuku_Honjo

MissMarple2

henry,

Until I see evidence (as in actual statistics) of effectiveness, I am not wearing one.

Target doesn't bother me anyway, as I have them on my boycott list due to their political leanings.

ALSO: if I decide that they have proven effective, I am NOT buying one made in China.

Rocco

If another stimulus package is passed, the teachers will undoubtedly demand and probably get a big chunk of it. Our side should demand that for every dollar the teachers get, a dollar goes toward the construction of charter schools.

Teachers, holding your child hostage again!

You’re welcome.

I forgot to add that our idiot Governor has extended our phase 4.5 thru 7/31.

No new indoor activities in NYC in phase 4, Cuomo says

Museums, indoor cultural venues, malls and indoor dining will remain closed when New York City is cleared to enter Phase 4, which could begin as soon as Monday, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said on Thursday. The state will make a final decision on whether the city will enter the fourth and final phase of reopening by 4 p.m. Friday, but either way no new indoor activities will open as part of the phase, Cuomo said.

So it's permanent, then. Here's JimmyK after he reads that.

henry

Narciso, how many of the 11,000 were illegales?

MissMarple2

If this is a biological attack, it seems to me that California COULD have higher numbers with contaminated mask purchases, infections purposely spread by Chinese students at universities, volunteer carriers by Antifa members, etc.

Also, the numbers of infected people coming illegally across the border seems high.

Old Lurker

I think all teachers and all professors should be paid each Friday based on the number of actual students they actually taught face to face in actual classrooms and lecture halls that week.

No tickee, no washee.

rse

So the faulty numbers caused by increased testing because the media no longer regards allergy issues as distinct from covid so people panic. Plus mixing antibodies with current cases in the covid positive numbers. Plus repeated stories of people who were NEVER tested being told they were positive are all being used to shut down in person learning so that these metro school districts have to go virtual and use the competency-based templates their personnel have been travelling the nation and world hyping what they are piloting that is cutting edge becomes mandatory.

The Infamous Ignatz

IMO 2020 demonstrates pretty plainly how the chimps and orangutans take over the world.
If a bug is widespread and you don't have a vaccine or cure, it's gonna do what it's gonna do. You can spread it out or get it over with but you can't eradicate it.
That most of humanity, including those dumbshits in charge, cannot recognize that and is cowering in their homes and demanding more meaningless rules to make them feel safe has brought me to the conclusion that collectively we are by the barest margin not sitting in trees eating bananas and flinging feces and we seem to be closing the gap downward at a pretty goof clip.
Bring back Devo because the theory of devolution seems to have considerable merit.

Welcome to Changing the Narrative on Public Education, a communications toolkit designed to help advocates talk more effectively about the current needs and future possibilities of public education. In collaboration with the Partnership for the Future of Learning and the Shared Story Project, FrameWorks offers evidence-based strategies for communicating an affirmative vision for the future of education that centers race, equity, and meaningful learning.

The Quickstart guide below offers a brief overview of framing recommendations that will assist advocates in disrupting the current narratives around public education and its future. Or if you’re new to framing, check out the Core Story of Education research for a deeper dive on what it takes to change the longstanding dominant narrative about public education.
