From a friend Bill Crane who is the political go to on WSB-TV and a long time friend of Herman Cain...
One last anecdote, as news outlets and particularly cable networks, will continue to insinuate that Herman caught COVID19 while attending a Trump campaign rally in Tulsa, sans mask, I think you should know that it was Cain's daughter who came home to be with Herman and his wife Gloria, experiencing several COVID19 symptoms. Herman later was takING her to be cared for at an area hospital. Herman having had multiple forms of chemotherapy as aggressive treatments against his prior cancers had a somewhat compromised immune system. As his daughter was being taken in to care, Herman stood up out of his car to check on her and collapsed at the door to the E.R. He was taken into the hospital as well, and unfortunately this virus did the rest...but even until the end, Herman was fighting back and I hear from those who did speak to or Email with him, he still had those jokes and that smile and high spirit with him until the end.

Does anyone have a good recent overview of Black Lives Matter?
The reason I ask is that I had a discussion with MrsJ, and she is convinced that the group is set up to oppose to racism against blacks in all forms. I spelled out my understanding, which is quite different.
A reference article would help. Organization, goals/manifesto, funding and so forth would help.
Thanks!

The one thing that I am most certain Black Lives Matter is not in the least interested in is eliminating racism.
In fact since, other than the few nutjob powerless neo Nazi types, actual racism is pretty much a dead letter, they have had to invent it to pretend to fight it to advance their real goals, destroying the West and freedom.

Thanks all. The links, while helpful, are less complete than what I am looking for. I should do the searches myself, but I thought someone would have a convenient reference.
My understanding is that Black Lives Matters is solely about police brutality against blacks, and has nothing to do with general racism. They have said nothing about black-on-black violence. They are Marxist to the core. And they have raised a huge amount of money.
MrsJ does not believe this, and I'm afraid that the short articles so far won't change her opinion. She is reasonable, though, and responds to facts.

--Like we are the same people who prevailed all those other times.--
There is a tendency for people to think their era is uniquely bad or uniquely corrupt or their fellow citizens uniquely weak.
Sometimes they're right. Usually they're wrong.
Do you think the people were all the same all those other times but now they're different?
Perhaps in those other times there were just as many or perhaps even more dopes and crooks and brigands. And perhaps now there are just as many or more strong, smart and heroic people of virtue who have yet to be tested as our ancestors were and who don't think in the past tense about our present circumstances.
In any event why the hostility just because I don't consider the country a dead loss full of parboiled frogs?

Everybody's pissed off, myself included, because of the four year insanity provoked by the enemedia. I'll say it for the last time: trust the voters to make the right choice like they did in 2016. They didn't really have a good choice in 2012 and 2008; we just thought otherwise at the time.

In yet another note, over the past few days I have been watching one of daddy's favorites: Perry Mason.
Overall it holds up pretty well. The scripts are solid, as is the acting. The cars are great. The show is entertaining.
What is striking is the difference in women's roles and fashion then and now. There are very few women of direct power and influence. Mostly they are secretaries, wives, or gold-diggers. Bras give torpedo-shaped boobs, and waist lines are tiny. Fashion styles are very out-of-date.
Men's fashion has not changed much. The PI garb is dated, but he is supposed to be cool, as opposed to Mason and the business folks.
Everyone wears hats. And there is a politeness and respect between people that has been lost.
The courtroom scenes of course are outrageously inaccurate.
Still, it is worth watching, if for nothing else than a snapshot into the time. Recommended.

I don't see why doctors (in contrast with lawyers) would necessarily be more liberal than average. Maybe a little, but many of them are essentially business people who have had to put up with a lot of crap from government interference.
Those doctors from the censored video like Simone Gold, and lots of other like them, don't seem too liberal.

My humble theory on the “postpone the election” tweet: @realDonaldTrump knew Dems would immediately scream “NO DELAY!” For some reason we have yet to understand, he wants every one of them *on the record* saying NO! to a delay (& himself on record as open to it) Watch.
Posted by: MissMarple2 | July 30, 2020 at 08:34 PM
many of them [docs] are essentially business people
I disagree. Most docs these days are employees. There was a huge consolidation after Obamacare. The big hospital chains took over. Out here at least, few of the independent practices remain. There are some, but not many.
Still, the docs I have had are really irritated with the amount of paperwork they now have to do.

Yes, but that's the point. They had to give up being in private practice because of all the interference. I guess i should have said "frustrated ex-businessmen," but I thought it was clear.

What’s a “Yankees game”? 🤔
Posted by: lyle | July 30, 2020 at 08:49 PM
I should add, it's partly Obamacare and related issues that have forced doctors to become employees, but also the plaintiff bar, and huge malpractice premiums.
I have a cousin by marriage who bent my ear for half an hour on this. He's trying to stay in private practice, but says insurance companies will pay him something like $75 for a patient visit, while giving much larger amounts to hospitals per visit for the same services. He says he's being driven out of business, and when he's tried to negotiate with the insurance companies they won't budge. I don't really know what's behind that, but it's post-Obamacare development.

I loved the Perry Mason theme music--very arresting and drew you right into whatever implausible melodrama was on tap that day--and I watched it every day as a kid, right after the Flintstones (a rather incongruous match, but kids don't really care). That show made me want to be a lawyer, but at some point I did figure out that to be a lawyer required memorizing a lot of dry stuff, just as I figured out that being an opera singer required several hours a day practice--so being lazy I went for being an English prof.
