MissMarple2

Jack,

The Crowne Plaza in the converted Union Station, I bet.

Here's a video about it, about 5 minutes.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GLGRc188yQQ

MissMarple2

When I was in third grade my entire grade school rode the TRAIN from Union Station to Columbus,IN and back.

By the time we moved to the farm and I was in the sixth grade (last year of elementary school in Indiana at that time) our new grade school took the entire sixth grade to Chicago on an AIRPLANE which terrified my mother. She offered to pay me not to go!

Of course, I went because I wasn't going to be the only kid who stayed home. Then she overslept so I had to dress in the car on the way to the airport, which you got to through country roads and state highways because the interstates weren't even started on our side of town. They were holding the plane for me when I ran to the airport and got on board just in time!

To this day I am nervous on planes and always get places early because I was traumatized by being late. (I told this story to daddy and he thought it was hilarious!)

Porchlight

Just say your child is bLACK Porch. That seems to work for some peeps.

Heh. Someone I may or may not be related to may or may not have checked "other" on the race box on his college app because he thought it was BS that he was being asked about his race. He might or might not have been accepted to schools he didn't have the grades or scores to get into as a white kid.

Porchlight

Strawman, I like "So Stop Shooting Each Other."

Porchlight

Agree with Dave, it's the sanctimony. Those have been in our neighborhood since 2017 when there was no risk.

They kind of faded away after a bit but now there are a bunch more.

James thank you. I’ll take you up on it.

MissMarple2

Here is my deal:

I happen to LIKE Donald Trump I like his taste, his style, his personality, his sense of humor,
his tweets, the way he answers all of the asshole reporters, the way he knows what's up, the way he doesn't trust people but pays attention, etc. etc.

I like how he doesn't like to waste money, how he likes to encourage people to work, how he is positive and tries to give Americans encouragement.

So, I LIKE the guy, and I will watch as much of the GOP convention as I can. I will be watching all 4 nights plus as much of the day as I can. I will report any information I can post so those of you who work or cannot get dayimee coverage will be more informed.

Jack Lillywhite

Dave & Porch,

I was being facetious. Geez!

MM,

Yep, Crowne Plaza. Stay in one the cars.

In, Waco, TX, they have a dining car converted to a restaurant. I am a RR freak. Not a train_spotter, but one who loves be in them. In my former life, I tried to develop a theme park for Tony Marcington around The Fliying Scotsman.

At least I rode it from Leeds to London.

JiB, about 30 yrs ago we were down in Melbourne on a new project for BHP and the intermediary sales guy from Westinghouse told us to meet him on a particular street corner at a specific time “and don’t be late”. So we show up and a couple minutes later this ancient trolley car rolls up and we climb aboard. Turns out to be a 5-star restaurant with about 4 tables. Spent the whole evening cruising around town and consuming a wonderful meal.

Why Conservatives Get Karl Marx Very, Very Wrong
From Jacobin magazine. The name of the mag tells you all you need to know. The interesting thing is these "democratic socialists" had pinned great hope on grandfatherly Bernie but also most of their articles seem to feature a generous portion of Marx love.
Why, it's almost enough to make one think "democratic socialism" is a purposely deceptive euphemism for good ol Marxist-Leninist-Stalinist-Maoist communism and the original Reign of Terror that has supplied so much inspiration for their ilk.

Ignatz Ratzkiwatzki

Read this dipshit article some goon posted in Berenson's thread;
The Simple Science Behind Why Masks Work
This is the kind of irrefutable science these dumbasses perpetrate;

The first study showed that a universal mask wearing policy in a Boston hospital system reduced the transmission of SARS-CoV-2.

Prior to the institution of the mask policy, new cases among healthcare workers who had either direct or indirect patient contact were increasing exponentially.

After the policy was put into place, however, the proportion of symptomatic healthcare workers who tested positive for COVID-19 “steadily declined,” according to the report.

Guess what. The entire country of Sweden didn't wear a mask not to mention other northern European countries. In every case their cases were expanding exponentially and then almost as if by magic they steadily declined. A person with any integrity would be embarrassed to publish anything that stupid.

But here's the clincher;

The editorial additionally spoke about a reportTrusted Source in the CDC’s Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR) which showed that wearing a mask appeared to prevent two Missouri hairstylists from spreading the disease to their customers.

Both stylists had continued to see customers for several days after developing symptoms, but wore face masks as per local government ordinance. Ninety-eight percent of their customers wore masks as well.

Of the 139 customers that the stylists saw before being diagnosed, none developed COVID-19 symptoms during the follow-up period. None of their secondary contacts developed symptoms either.

In addition, of the 67 clients who agreed to be tested, none were positive for the virus.

Did they have a control group of two stylists with the same viral load and 139 customers to see if any of them developed symptoms? That is about as close to science as a Ouija board.

A lady started a "Sunnyvale Republicans" group on our NextDoor. There are currently only 7 members LOL, but you start where you start. One person posted a notice for a Trump rally nearby. I attended and posted this report. I think it helps everyone to be active, in Blue states you can feel pretty isolated. I'm sure some are literally afraid.

Trump Rally report.
I attended today's Trump Rally.
It was held in San Jose in the Little Saigon district.
I'd guess there were about 200 people there, lots of flags and banners.
A few short speeches by the organizers and local office candidates (none Sunnyvale, sadly). Then a short march around the area. Popular chants included "Donald Trump: 4 more years", "Recall Newsom!", "Support the Police".
Because it is a Vietnamese area a number of passing cars honked and waved. One car honked and gave us the finger. We laughed. A Walmart truck driver gave us a toot on his air horn and thumbs up, which was much appreciated.
Luckily the air was pretty clear and the sun not too hot. Nearly everyone wore masks and everyone friendly.

MissMarple2

Here's MY "science", which is as good as that:

I will be 72 next month. I smoke and drink alcohol. I have worked with the public until I retired at age 62 (and would have worked longer except my husband wanted me to quit).

I have NEVER had a flu vaccination of any sort. The only time I had flu was what I presume was swine flu my senior year of college during finals week which was when I was in my late 20's.

I have had the following vaccinations:

Smallpox (plus booster when I was admitted to IU)

Polio (3 vaccinations as one of the schools who were the first back in the 50's in Indy plus a booster prior to IU)

NO chickenpox vaccination due to having it along with the rest of my sisters and brother back in 1959). I have the scar in the middle of my forehead to remind me.

NO measles vaccinations of either sort due to having it along with my sisters. Brother only got the 3-day in 1962.

That's it.

ABob, great sign, but signs don’t matter to Karens and others. Time and time again customers complain about someone not wearing a mask in my store. I tell them that the MA “rule” is that you don’t have to wear one if you have a medical issue, and another customer’s health issues are not my business. They don’t care.

These are the same doofuses who probably advocated for the HIPPA (or however it is spelled) laws that kept me from talking to my insurance company regarding my 13 year old’s physical lab test incorrect charge. He had a physical and the pediatric office tested him for chlymadia and ghonorea. I kid you not. UHC would not cover the cost. I fought with all groups involved. No dice. Sorry to go off on a rant, but my point is these stupid people don’t actually listen the the “orders,” and they certainly don’t read signs. They are the most self-absorbed selfish idiots, and they are worse than I ever thought they could be. End rant. (I hope that made sense.)

Theodore Dalrymple's observation on the purpose of propaganda is actually applicable to the entire prog project.
Arbitrariness is a cardinal virtue not a sin in their world and 'because the authorities/experts said so' is their life motto.
The Spanish Inquisition was more tolerant of skepticism and this from the people who brought us their earlier mottos of 'question authority/everything'.
What that really means when translated into plain English is 'never give a sucker an even break'.
Pete Townsend was only half right. The new boss is considerably more bossy than the old boss.

Here in Indy it was a big deal when NASCAR was allowed to even drive on The Track. The Hulman family had built that track and the race had been run their only on Memorial Day for years.

It's probably not a big deal for general sports fans, but for people involved with the Race or the City, it's sort of an insult.

Compare it to confusing the American and National Leagues in baseball.
