Biden says this election is a battle for the soul of America. Trump's response is that it is a battle for the streets of America. The NY Times goes to Wisconsin and finds Joe the Plumber 2020 in the person of John Geraghty, a 41 year old ex-Marine who is, hmm, politically detached but troubled by Democratic passivity during these protests/riots.
And after feeling “100 percent on the fence” about who he will vote for in November, he is increasingly nervous that Democratic state leaders seem unable to contain the spiraling crisis.
“It’s crazy that it’s now happening in my home city,” he said. “We have to have a serious conversation about what are we going to do about it. It doesn’t seem like the powers that be want to do much.”
...
Mr. Geraghty, a former Marine, said he was disturbed to see his town looking like “a war zone,” and he feared that the Democrats in charge were “letting people down big time.”
Politics for him had long been like a sport he did not follow. In his late 20s, he voted for Barack Obama, the first vote of his life. He did not vote in 2016, and he called the president’s handling of the coronavirus “laughable.”
But, believe it or not, Democratic "outreach" to him has fallen a bit short:
Mr. Geraghty said he disliked how Mr. Trump talked but said the Democratic Party’s vision for governing seemed limited to attacking him and calling him a racist, a charge being leveled so constantly that it was having the effect of alienating, instead of persuading, people. And the idea that Democrats alone were morally pure on race annoyed him.
“The Democratic agenda to me right now is America is systematically racist and evil and the only people who can fix it are Democrats,” he said. “That’s the vibe I get.”
Quick - get this guy to a workshop on White Privilege and White Fragility!
Mr. Geraghty said he understood peaceful protesting but felt frustrated with Democratic leaders who seem afraid of confronting crowds when things turn violent. He was angry at the statement by Gov. Tony Evers on Sunday, which in his view took sides against the police in a knee-jerk way that worsened the situation. On Tuesday, Mr. Evers, a Democrat, did condemn the looting and fires, while reiterating protesters’ rights to assemble.
“I’m not 100 percent sure of anything yet,” Mr. Geraghty said of November. “But as of now I’m really not happy about how Democrats are handling any of this.”
Fluid indeed. If I were a Republican strategist... yeah, if I were a Republican strategist, go long botox because I would need all the help in the world keeping a straight face. But I would exhort Trump et al to make a strong statement urging these militia guys to stay home and let the police handle this. If they ignore it, fine, it shows the President is not really their leader, a point his defenders often put forward. If it works, take the win and challenge Biden to show similar sway over antifa (yeah, they'll listen!).
DO FACTS EVEN MATTER? Back to the Jacob Blake shooting that started this: Per the information available, it appears that:
- Blake's presence violated some sort of restraining order and a woman had called the police to report his presence;
- There was an arrest warrant out for Blake based on a seemingly-similar violation in July;
- While ignoring the police (and a Taser!?! Or did it malfunction?) Blake walked around his SUV, opened the driver-side door and reached towards the area where he had a knife.
IMHO this doesn't really justify the shooting - police sometimes reacts as if they are scared and lack imagination, and this looks like one of those times. However, ignoring lawful orders to stop and engaging in potentially threatening behavior can get people shot and police acquitted, or not even charged.

I call BS. There would be visible evidence of this if it were true. For example a test would sizable buildings with shared plumbing but no elevators and no shared entrances, like some old school apartment buildings and motels. You'd see the whole building get sick even when no one is coming anywhere near each other.
As it is, even sharing elevators isn't enough to make entire high rises get sick.

That Flight 93 memorial was allowed to be built in a crescent shape--the Bush administration let objections to that be marginalized. --...police sometimes reacts as if they are scared and lack imagination...--
It is a puzzler, I'll grant you.
A cop is dealing with a felon with a violent record and when he defies and resists and then reaches in his car where a gun would be stored, bizarrely the copper becomes frightened the violent criminal is going to shoot him as happens not infrequently every year. It just doesn't add up, I tells ya.
And when you have a violent felon who has apparently walked through a taser refuses to stop and may or may not have already been in possession of a knife and he does one of the two or three most dangerous things a con can do, reaches into his car, what self respecting cop doesn't ask the hopped up thug for a timesy outy, put on his propeller beanie and take a magical trip to Barney the Dinosaur's Imagination Station?
Cop has exhausted his non lethal means of gaining compliance. He stays close to the thug in an effort to prevent him obtaining a weapon. Thug goes to his car anyway and reaches into it. What is left to imagine?
I may say you're a dreamer. And you're not the only one. I hope someday you will take a ride along; so you'll know the world is full of thugs with guns.

If found guilty, ex-UAW President Dennis Williams could face up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
UAW LAKEFRONT HOME SEARCHED IN CORRUPTION PROBE GOING FOR $1.3M
Williams, 67, is the 15th person charged in connection with corruption in the UAW related to the ongoing investigation by the Department of Justice. His successor as UAW president, Gary Jones, pleaded guilty in June to a more-than $1 million scheme that stole money from union members.

Within an hour or two he e-mailed her back, saying he was away, but go to a nearby hospital where one of his residents would be waiting for her. She checked out fine. A couple of days later the first doc e-mailed her to ask how she was doing. Pretty amazing.

Hey all. My Santa Cruz daughter had to evacuate so they drove to my son in law's sister's place outside Seattle. Not everyone *had* to evacuate, I guess, because their neighbor stayed put and said nothing was torched. So I think they're returning this weekend. Well run state imo.

What the hell did she think she was rebutting?

It's because the officers have imagination that they react the way they do.
Porch,
I'd say it's because the officers have training and experience. If they were untrained and had no experience, then perhaps our host's reaction to the incident might apply. It would also
be a very irresponsible and costly way to run a jurisdiction.
In actuality, police departments and jurisdictions put a great deal of time, effort and money in training officers in the academy, during probation and on the job not only to avoid the "errors" that are being alleged, but also to get them through such very dangerous situations alive.

If this Michael Walsh quote is not truer than ever, I don’t know what is:
Always have been and are even more so now.

It's pretty clear, covid is going to be the entire democrat platform.
A friend sent me this today. I have no idea if it will come about, but it's all about covid being rigged, and Fauci being in on it.

FTR, I too have a sibling who is LEO.
I don't want anybody who hasn't spent a month in the winter on ride alongs on the 3-11 shift, in a town with 20% unemployment, telling me how police "should" act. Going to doors where there's been a domestic reported, waiting to see who's going to be greeting your knock, and with what weapon. And how liquored or drugged up they'll be.
You do that, then you can share your opinion on how the cop "should" be acting.
So the people I value when commenting on any cop/ deceased video is rocco and gentlejim--and I will note, I think even they may have gotten the George Floyd thing wrong, it appears.
For the rest of us--TK's 72 hour rule is a good place to start.
(Though assuming whatever the MSM reports is wrong works most of the time.)

I'm at the point where I will believe absolutely anything about the democrats.

Captain Hate!
Daggone it, I was prepping the early stages of supper! I will be here from now until the curtain falls on RNC2020, and I sure hope you come back to see what President Trump pulls to make the democrats go even more insane than they already have.
Porchlight,
How are the kids over on The Donald enjoying this? I ave to tell you, I am thrilled with how this has been handled, and I will bet it has been cheaper than the old way they used to do conventions. A LOT more interesting people, too! Plus no Mitt Romney! Yay!

Police do undergo a lot of training but it’s an open secret that they don’t regularly hit the gun range nearly as much as private citizens.

Have you ever heard the term "OG?" It's become a big deal in one of my plant groups. The administrator re-named the group "The OG-----Plant Group."
She said she just thought OG referred to "Original" because another group had surfaced with a similar name. She was informed by the PC brigade that it meant "Original Gangsters" and it was inappropriate for her, as a white person, to use that term as it was only allowed to be used by POC.
So here is my question...Why would a POC WANT to appropriate the term "gangster" and forbid its use by white people?
This all blew up overnight and it appears it will result in the entire group (which is 9 years old) dissolving. They found something in her SM from 5 years ago that "proves" she is a racist!

Nobody commented on Iggy's use of the sappy Imagine lyrics on TM? Do I even know you guys?

... police departments and jurisdictions put a great deal of time, effort and money in training officers..
Yet still they turn out clowns like Derek Chauvin, or officers who don't cuff drunks who fall asleep in the drive-thru line, and their negligence gives the left all the ammunition they need. Better training, and better screening. It's called for.

Must have been because I mentioned your name earlier today.
And I came back despite no one mentioning my name.
