Here we go again.
Do Let Me Add: The quote du jour comes from Marcus Aurelius by way of Andrew Sullivan:
In the current chaos, I’ve come to appreciate Marcus Aurelius’s maxim that “The object of life is not to be on the side of the majority, but to escape finding oneself in the ranks of the insane.”
He makes the devastating point that a notable part of the left (possibly including Biden and Harris) have internalized the Marxist/BLM notion that the police are instruments of the rich and the white:
Remember the pivotal moment earlier this summer when the New York Times caved to its activist staff and fired James Bennet? It’s no accident this was over an op-ed that argued that if New York City would not stop the rioting in the streets, the feds should step in to restore order. For the far left activists who now control that paper, the imposition of order was seen not as an indispensable baseline for restoring democratic debate, but as a potential physical attack on black staffers. They saw restoring order within the prism of their own critical race ideology, which stipulates that the police are enforcers of white supremacy, and not enforcers of the rule of law in a liberal society. It was a sign that the establishment left were willing to tolerate disorder and chaos if they were directed toward the ideologically correct ends — which is how Democratic establishments in Minneapolis and Seattle and Portland responded. The NYT, CNN and the rest tried to ignore the inexcusable, and find increasingly pathetic ways to dismiss it. This week, their staggering bias was exposed as absurd.
Trump gets bashed as well, needless to say. But Sully acknowledges that betting on Biden to right the ship is a desperation move.
Did you say Biden, Sully?
I wonder how BLM would feel if they saw this Biden rant on the Senate floor from 1993?

How's this for a quote?
We’re currently battling two viruses in America. COVID-19 continues to wreak havoc on our daily lives, our children’s education, and how we define normal. But we have also been living with another insidious virus, one that began more than 400 years ago when enslaved Africans were first sold to American colonists in 1619. Though we no longer practice slavery, this virus has permeated our minds, attitudes, systems, and structures causing systemic oppression and ongoing racial injustice. It has deeply seeded our biases, the design of our education system, and how we view the students we serve. As a result, this virus has profound effects on how our children develop their identity and sense of agency as human beings.
This project brought together people and organizations with experience and expertise in enacting change. We have an opportunity in this time of crisis to change the mental model we have of learners and what education is, so that we can evolve ourselves and our institutions to raise youth that know themselves and the awesome impact they can have on the world.
Useful Pandemic. Useful George Floyd.

Posted by: sbwaters | August 29, 2020 at 10:16 AM
I disagree, Buford.
The People placed in position Stalin's "...the people who count the vote". The People allowed their history to be revised and taught to those people and the people who elected them. The people allowed their entire education systems to morph from rational logic and open thought to a Thought Control machine worthy of 1984. The people allowed the Left to evict God from religion. The people happily sold their votes for thirty pieces of silver taken from one person and handed out in return for votes.
The list goes on and on.

To extend Michael Anton's metaphor from four years ago voting for Biden is the equivalent of the desperation of all those on Flight 93 who stayed obediently in their seats.
If it happened today I guarantee every one of them would be screaming from behind a mask they dutifully wore right into the dirt of Pennsylvania.

I maintain that the black vote doesn't really exist the way it's portrayed.
I think that black votes disappear, a suitable number is manufactured for the democrats, and then the supposed existence of black support is the excuse put forth to explain why the crooked, unappealing democrat candidate won. I am convinced this is why Joe Hogsett, Al Gore's worthless campaign manager, became our mayor. (I was living in another county at the time.)
In many of these democrat areas, the BLM/antifa riots, arson, and looting have driven residents out. They now are living in different areas. Many won't re-register, or won''t realize it is necessary. That "excuse" for illegal votes won't be available.

I don't think the people living in urban blue hells want to live in hell, but irrationality on a mass scale is made up of millions of little individual irrationalities collectivized.
An irrational person has a very, very difficult time choosing the rational option because it involves so many self negating decisions not least of which is stopping the magical thinking and the blaming of others for the problem.
That's why I equate irrational society with personality disorders. It's not that people in urban hellscapes aren't miserable they just don't see any way out. For those outside looking in, American cities' electoral habits fit Einstein's apocryphal definition of insanity better than anything I can think of.
What makes it even more incurable and persistent is the very people the voters think they are hiring as their therapists not only come themselves from the ranks of the disordered but they have very powerful incentives making sure the patient never gets well.

(3) The Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, is describing our President, @realDonaldTrump, as an enemy of the state. Many radical members of Congress are openly calling for the overthrow of our government.

JiB,
Agreed. There's an assumption out there that if he loses, all this will go away. I don't see that happening. This has taken on a life of its own. If the governors in the target states are not replaced, the violence will continue.
Law and order and the structure that holds together our society are the targets. The police and the courts are the barrier. We're seeing the violence leaving the city centers and heading for the suburbs. That's their ultimate goal. As the suburbanites respond accordingly, law enforcement will have to decide who they will defend and who they will arrest.

Question I haven't seen addressed but may have missed.
What do you all think will be the impact of so many college students not being on campus right now?
From my observation in higher ed, college students need to prod each other A LOT to GOTV. It's a social activity - "wanna go vote?" Then they stand in line "together" and look at their phones. Pretty sure my workplace delivered a ton of votes to Beto in 2018.
Adult Dems who are UT staff also voted in large numbers at my workplace.
Lastly, candidates and their supporters did a lot of harassing on the plaza outside the building. I complained several times that the electioneering markers were too close to the front doors but no one heeded.
My workplace will NOT be a polling place this year (yay).
So, I'll predict: college students will vote in record low numbers this year.
The next question is, for those students who do vote, where will they vote?
A small number might successfully cheat by voting absentee in their college town if they are registered there, then re-register at home and vote there too. Or they might be able to take advantage of vote by mail ballots floating around.
But most would be voting in the same state where their parents live - if they register/re-register in time. What if they live in a solid red or blue state but go to college in a swing state? That's one less Biden vote in PA or WI or MI. It also could affect some Senate races.
And how is polling affected by college students not being on campus?

First of all, I am so glad that you are on your way to recovery! You have a great team of doctors and a wonderful spirit. I look forward to more updates on your improvement.
As far as democrats who won't vote for Biden — even or especially those who pay attention — I don't hold out much hope. Many or probably most of those people would never stray from the leftist news channels or news sources in print or online. They accept the information that's put out in the leftist media and simply don't seek out another view or search the web for information beyond what they are told. I think they're actually afraid to learn anything different.
I think we all know or know of people like this. It's impossible to have any kind of conversation with them. It's worse than walking on egg shells; it's like walking over cut glass or through a mine field without protection. Most definitely Blacks exist. It’s what Mooch says that I learned not to pay attention to.

“About 23.8 million viewers watched coverage of Trump’s RNC address across thirteen cable and broadcast networks, down from 24.6 million viewers who watched Biden’s DNC address on twelve of those same networks.”
Across television and online streaming, the Republican National Convention got 147.9 million total viewers from Monday through Thursday, while Democratic National Convention got 122 million total viewers, according to figures released by both campaigns.
This seems to contradict the media narrative that Democrats are more tech savvy.

Now that Biden’s Polls are dropping fast, he has agreed to get out of his basement and start campaignin,“in ten days.” Sadly, that is a very slow reaction time for a President. Our beloved USA needs a much faster, smarter, and tougher response than that. Get out there today, Joe!
....New Hampshire - and the big crowds - was great last night. Thank you! Heading now for Louisiana & Texas to check out the damage done by Hurricane Laura. @FEMA & @FEMA_Pete are, together with Law Enforcement and First Responders, doing a great job!

Neo, true, plus most of TV didn't carry the whole RNC and kept cutting away. So the internets were the only place to get a clean stream uninterrupted by talking heads.

Trump said yesterday that ten days is like an eternity in his world. It's true.

Neo, Porchlight,
The other answer is because there aren't nearly as many dems as the DC bigshots would have us believe.

--I texted the link to friends and family with "I'd vote for this guy."--
Mirengoff catches a lot of grief here and at PL but he's relentlessly on the money with the whole overincarceration bullpuckey, including by Reps;
THE ALICE MARIE JOHNSON FRAUD
"If Johnson’s BS speech helps Trump get reelected, that’s fine with me. But the speech did not paint a serious, or even an honest, picture of what the leniency for felons movement is about."

I think with Biden’s address a part of the audience was curious about the slow motion train wreck spectacle potential. What we learned is that he’s still capable of reading from a teleprompter, more or less. And still a liar.

The most pressing question in the Kenosha police shooting is how do you shoot a guy in the back seven times from six inches away and still not kill him?

Well, I fail to see why I should believe Mirengoff, when he hasn't proved particularly accurate either.

True MM. I would guess the DNC drew far more Trump-supporting viewers than the RNC drew Biden-supporting viewers.
The media account for most of the latter.

Gotta know how many ballots to harvest.
@amyewalter
PA Gov. Wolf (D) proposes extended timeframe to begin processing ballots to 21 days before election. Currently ballots can’t be processed until morning of Election Day. This could help ensure PA vote counting doesn’t drag on thru election week.
