August 10th here in Kansas 31,145 Kansans have tested positive for Covid, which is 1.0695% of Kansans, and that has resulted in 380 Covid deaths statewide, which is 0.01305% of the Kansas population of 2,912,000 Kansans.
The actual COVID death rate in Kansas is 13/1000th of 1 percent, compared to the average death rate from the annual winter flu viruses of 0.1% : 1/10th of 1 percent, which is 76 times higher death rate than from the Covid virus.
As of August 10th, the current Covid survival rate for Kansans is 100% minus 0.01305% death rate = a survival rate of 99.998695%.
The survival rate would be even higher if our public health policy had been focused upon quarantining the most vulnerable in our nursing homes, where more than 80% of the 380 Kansas Covid deaths have actually occurred, with the average age of the Kansas patients dying from COVID having been age 81, instead of the absurd, unprecedented Kabuki dance of QUARANTINING THE HEALTHY, with the catastrophic loss of over 41 million jobs; a loss of more than $8 trillion dollars to our economy and the loss of over 300,000 jobs in Kansas and an estimated death rate directly caused by the shutdown, from suicides, drug overdoses and delayed access to much needed non-Covid medical care, that will far exceed the total deaths from the Covid Wuhan virus.

The flipped Trump supporter is the Holy Grail of American journalism today. No one has found one yet. But the Times tried to pass one off as a one in a piece on Sunday, "In Ohio, a Father and Stepdaughter Show the Political Shifts in the Trump Era."
I’m trying to figure out what we EXPECT in an immune person when that person has contact with a virus that they are immune to.
Take measles, for example. I had it in 1964. DrF had the measles vaccine. Our kids had the MMR vaccines. Suppose our family spent time with someone who had an active case of the measles, which is virulently contagious by aerosol transmission. Everything I have been told about the immune system says that we should all four be safe from getting SICK from the measles. However, what do we expect would be the result of sticking swabs up our noses and then doing PCR tests looking for measles viruses?
Everything I’ve learned about viruses and the immune system defines “immunity to measles” in the context of “what happens if measles goes up my nose” — as in the immune person doesn’t get sick and the not-immune person does. But that pretty much assumes that the virus is going up everybody’s nose!
Remember when Millbury went into the stands after a fan, caught him, took the fans shoe off and whacked him with it? Evidently a Rangers fan had reached over the glass, hit Jonathan and grabbed his stick. A couple of B's were suspended for that iirc.
Had my pre-surgery COVID test this morning - good grief, it's an uncomfortable procedure.
They had six lanes set up for drive-through testing and a pre-registration process so that no one showed up unannounced. There were already forty cars at 7:15, and these were the slots set aside for the locals needing pre-screen for surgery, contact trace tests, etc. The students were starting at 8:30am.
SOMETHING TO WATCH FOR — Syracuse Post-Standard’s Chris Carlson: “Syracuse University gave interim suspensions to 23 students following a gathering on the quad that drew hundreds of freshmen to the middle of campus Wednesday night. Bobby Maldonado, chief of the Department of Public Safety, and Marianne Thomson, the school’s dean of students, announced the suspensions in an email to the Syracuse University community. They said the school is still investigating the gathering and is using security camera footage, witness accounts and a number of tips. The school did not explicitly say what the interim suspensions were issued for, but in the email, the administrators said students found organizing events that do not comply with Syracuse’s policies to limit the spread of the coronavirus will be subject to penalties that include suspension or expulsion.”
— To be clear: Syracuse is not an outlier and expect this scene, in New York and elsewhere, to play out at many colleges in an attempt to stave off outbreaks and campus re-closures.
Also, was listening to the radio yesterday while someone with a charity was being interviewed as they are providing funds so that children of workers unable to work from home can go to a child care center to do their 'virtual learning' in a safe and secure environment. So it's too dangerous to open schools but students can gather at 'day care centers' to do virtual learning.
As I have said before this is really about changing the nature of what constitutes 'learning' and make an LMS experience the new vision.
HE LENGTHS COLLEGES ARE GOING TO — Boston Globe’s Laura Krantz: “In an effort to preempt a COVID-19 outbreak among students this semester, Northeastern University on Friday sent stern e-mails to 115 freshmen — and their parents — warning them against partying. The e-mails were sent to students who responded to a poll posted on social media by another student that asked if students planned to party when they got to campus. ‘It has been brought to our attention that on a social media platform you have indicated an intent to gather in large groups and engage in parties while disrespecting numerous government and university restrictions,’ the letter began. ‘This is unacceptable, will not be tolerated, and presents a danger to your health and the health of our community,’ it said.”
In the "even a broken clock is right twice a day" category, the NYT last month published something that was actually totally non-political, positive and useful to readers in their real lives:
So far, I've made the sauce in the recipe described in the article (Tomato Sauce I, to be exact) and it is fantastic. Best tomato sauce I've ever had, hands-down. I've got another batch going on the stove right now.
ANYBODY walking down the street regardless of previous Covid sickness might collect a stray virus or two in his nose which might show up in a test applied at just the right time.
That does not mean the viral load is sufficient to make him sick in the least.
Just like her exposure to measles floating around in a room.

BREAKING: Manhattan’s top prosecutor on Monday agreed to delay enforcement of a subpoena for eight years of President Trump’s tax returns. Cyrus Vance Jr., the Democratic district attorney for Manhattan, had the legal right as of this Friday to enforce a New York grand jury subpoena to obtain a lengthy financial paper trail that includes Trump’s corporate and personal tax records. The delay allows for another round of litigation, which will prolong the nearly year-long court battle over the subpoena in which Trump has lost every bout, including a landmark decision last month at the Supreme Court.

I don't think that's correct.
He's calculating the death rate for Covid by using the total population of Kansas whereas the flu's approximate number is using the population of those who have the flu.

I post only because he is a first cousin, and past small town news beats current big town news, hands down.
Doesn't matter if he is or isn't. If you look at the trendline going back to 2016, all of what is going on today is a culmination.
Look how eager a certain ilk of politician or bureaucrat is to negatively affect people's lives through lockdowns and draconian enforcement of dubious rules like masks. These are the same people who didn't need to be told to look the other way when Antifa came to town, or to target conservative groups for negative treatment, or to beat the "fine people" narrative.
I used to write it off to simple bureaucratic risk aversion, but I'm more and more inclined to see it as a pattern designed to create unrest. All of these bad feelings and the things causing them will be ascribed to DJT ("botched!", "failed!", "incompetent!") from now until November.
All you have to do is vote for Biden and we can make it all go away, and you can have your life back. Take the blue pill Mr. Anderson.
You are absolutely right. I have thought this since Jeff Sessions' weak performance as AG. Why did he demand that position, when he KNEW he would have to recuse? I will never get over that.
Fauci? Why did he stay in office and not retire? I could go on and on. There are THOUSANDS in DC, not to mention NGO's, colleges and universities, corporations, etc. etc.
"I used to write it off to simple bureaucratic risk aversion, but I'm more and more inclined to see it as a pattern designed to create unrest."
Soylent,
Oh it absolutely is. And so far it's failed. Now is it because has something on them, (which I have thought since the beginning but may not be true) or is this their plan for every republican going forward?
I think some are one way, and some the other. Very few are anything but crooks, as far as I am concerned, once they get to the top positions. The rest are currying favor.
Jane, it is a ramp up in violence since the Act 10 in Madison (and similar intimidation in Union Grove, etc),followed by the occupooper seizing of public spaces by vagrants and vandals. There was major glass breaking in Seattle against global banking (late W’s term). The mob on mob stuff started with Trump in office. The burning is new this time. The provocation and incitement come faster... more coordinated. Evers last night was timed as a pregame pep talk for burning down Kenosha. So far, I've made the sauce in the recipe described in the article (Tomato Sauce I, to be exact) and it is fantastic. Best tomato sauce I've ever had, hands-down. I've got another batch going on the stove right now.

Cathy as always asks exactly the right question.
ANYBODY walking down the street regardless of previous Covid sickness might collect a stray virus or two in his nose which might show up in a test applied at just the right time.
That does not mean the viral load is sufficient to make him sick in the least.
Just like her exposure to measles floating around in a room.

The Hill:

It's not lunacy at all. All of this is an informally networked strategy. No one is driving it but those who are in on it know what to do, using whatever resources are available to them. John Robb refers to it as "open-source warfare".
It is designed to create fear and unhappiness in the general population, for the purpose of giving the Biden campaign something to run against. All the best community agitators know that in order to affect political change, you have to foment discontent, even to the point of manufacturing it.

Hi Jane:
Anderson.

(Lots of small business got glass broken as well, looting, the usual stuff not covered by the press).
It may be a loose thing like Soylent suggests. But so was ISIS. The Feds need to roll up these terrorists.
