Con Air?

President Donny-from-Queens rehashes some conspiracy theories that ought to be left to call-in radio. I kind of like "Con Air":

Trump added on "The Ingraham Angle" that an RNC attendee had traveled to Washington "on a plane from a certain city, and in the plane it was almost completely loaded with thugs wearing these dark uniforms, black uniforms with gear and this and that."

The president declined to say who had told him the story, but promised Ingraham he would reveal it "sometime.

"This person was coming to the Republican National Convention and there were like seven people in the plane [with] this person, and then a lot of people were on the plane to do big damage," Trump insisted. "This is all happening."

What?!? To be fair-ish, Sen. Rand Paul made a similar claim after he was harassed by protestors in DC a few days ago:

Paul hypothesized the protesters were compensated and flown in to instigate a violent riot, but didn't offer any suggestions on who might have paid them or evidence to support his assertion. That protesters are paid to cause disruption is a common talking point among some conservative figures for which there is no substantive evidence. Such claims have been regularly challenged by fact-checkers.

"You just think, Oh, these are some normal hoodlums from a big city. I promise you that at least some of the members and the people who attacked us were not from D.C. They flew here on a plane," he said. "They've all got fresh, new clothes."

JiB, I think it goes beyond the CT bubble. In my opinion, persuadables in Wisconsin, Minnesota, NH, Pennsylvania and Michigan also have a certain dismissive attitude toward Trump stemming from a rank cultural bias (Trump simply is too nasty to make many people comfortable voting for him). That's why, although I try to be polite here, I think that the notion that Trump is going to win a convincing victory is simple wishful thinking. This election will resemble Franken/Coleman. Dems won't give up.

I think one of the major problems for the good natured, reasonable middle like TM is, admitting the truth about what the Left is and what it's doing [and by Left, I now of necessity include the entire Dem party] entails some very distasteful conclusions and ramifications.
And a loud, politesse-challenged guy like Trump is in many ways the perfect excuse to avoid those distasteful things. It's as if the kid who declared the Emperor has no clothes had first spent all summer putting flaming bags o' dog poo on the reasonable middle's porch and throwing M80s over their back fence before he spoke the truth about the Boss.

And so in a world where hundreds of millions are given to an overtly Marxist group like BLM and we see antifa thugs forming caravans and using sophisticated methods of coordination it's a lot easier to ridicule Donny from Queens than admit the overt and imminent threat to reasonableness and middleness and good naturedness the snowballing radicalization of the Democratic party and society presents.
In such a case even someone as sensible as TM can actually consider Joe Biden who is the embodiment of the Scarecrow as Emperor; he not only has no clothes on, he hasn't got a brain either. But the fanciful idea that electing a cipher like Biden who is spouting mumbo jumbo that would have embarrassed Gus Hall will somehow bring America back to the middle is preferable to admitting; "Goddamit these crazy fuckers are commies!" cuz you gotta fight and kill commies and there are few things the good natured, reasonable middle looks forward to with less enthusiasm than living in a world where you gotta kill commies. So it's easier to engage in magical thinking and pretend the problem is Trump.
