CCGirl

Same old crap they have always been doing. Does anyone think that any person who is a Trumper will have their mind changed by anything put out by the corrupt media?

More people are beginning to see the lies. In Mass of course we still have the people in denial, but more and more are speaking up where they can.

As for me in the store, I barely pull up my bandanna these days. On occasion I have a really squirrelly customer, and then I sanitize my hands and I am covered up (almost to mock the entire scenario) before I bag their purchases.

The Trump Pence sign needed reinforcement this afternoon. Hubs got the ladder out and I climbed up to the tip top to anchor the sign to the branches with st st wire. LOL. Daughter came home from work and commented on the sign, wondering why it was up so high. I said so no one can steal it.

I have still not worn my mask anywhere, other than donning it for about two seconds to get into the grocery store and they don't even make you do that anymore.

A couple brain teasers to while away the hours waiting for the next Dem assault on decency:

Proof of Cosmic Objects Without a Hard Surface Confined Within an Invisible Boundary You gotta believe the science, even if it seems to make no logical sense.

There’s Something We’re Missing About the Universe, says everybody's favorite science guy:

“Everything we know and love about the universe and all the laws of physics as they apply, apply to four percent of the universe. That’s stunning,” says astronomer and “Cosmos” host, Neil deGrasse Tyson.
Apparently NASA agrees:
The problem of the missing mass, observed NASA, “has gotten to the point where it is more than just a problem. It is an embarrassment....

Not the first one either, I'd say.

Shoot, Sunday AM has gone by and no bye-bye from Biden re the debate. Of course, his actually showing up would be a lovely, lovely thing...

Catsmeat

To explain, I had Sunday AM in Lyle's pool.

Neo

A federal appeals court on Sunday temporarily halted a six-day extension for counting absentee ballots in Wisconsin’s presidential election, a momentary victory for Republicans and President Donald Trump in the key presidential battleground state.

As it stands, ballots will now be due by 8 p.m. on Election Day. A lower court judge had sided with Democrats and their allies to extend the deadline until Nov. 9. Democrats sought more time as a way to help deal with an expected historic high number of absentee ballots.

JM Hanes

Neo:

Is that a different case from the one I read about earlier where court permanently stayed the order to extend the deadline?

Narciso

He still has till tuesday to be mauled by wombats.

CCGirl

Ig, too funny (not really!). I am sure that the west and east coasts can exchange enough stupidity to rival each other. We may have to wear masks, but you have an unstable electrical grid. I am sure you and I could go back and forth on the stupidity, but let’s not please! 😁😩

JM Hanes

Catsmeat:

I thought about you and the other fans of 19th c. lit here, when this book was mentioned (although I can't remember where): Bronte's Mistress. I know absolutely nothing about the book or its author, beyond the fact that it's a novel about Bronwell Bronte's affair with Lydia Robinson -- which is said to have destroyed the Bronte family.

CCGirl

Catsmeat, I went with Trump’s idea. He will get a giant shot in the ass. Then he will make it through with practiced answers and such. Hubs says it’s on Fox so no one else will cover it, and the papers won’t report it, and he won’t do any other debates. I think he is right (for a change - ha!)

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Former campaign manager for Donald Trump, Brad Parscale, who was replaced by the President less than four month until November’s vote was reportedly armed with a gun and threatening to harm himself at his Fort Lauderdale home on Sunday afternoon.

Police have not confirmed that Parscale worked for Trump, but records confirm that the property in the 2300 block of Desota Drive in Fort Lauderdale is owned by Parscale, 44, and his wife, Candice. Local 10 spoke to neighbors in the Seven Isles neighborhood who also said it was the former advisor to the President.

Fort Lauderdale Police responded to a home in reference to an armed male attempting suicide Sunday afternoon. When officers arrived on the scene, they made contact with the wife of the man who told them her husband was armed, had access to multiple firearms inside the house and was threatening to harm himself. She had placed the 911 call, according to police.

Fort Lauderdale Police said that the armed subject was transported to Broward Health Medical Center where he was placed under a Baker Act.

Police determined no one else was in the home.

A statement from President Trump’s Campaign Communications Director, Tim Murtaugh, states: "Brad Parscale is a member of our family and we all love him. We are ready to support him and his family in any way possible.”

Four days are fine, if they start by Tuesday.

matt - deplore me if you must

I inherited a '65 Corvair 4 Dr from my mom when she got a Mazda. I loved the lines and painted it flat black. I had a 50 lb bag of cement in the trunk to help keep the front end down. One way to skin a cat.

I went off to college in NYC and left the car at home. Came back to find that my underage brother and his friends "borrowed/stole" it and one of them decided to open the air vent except that it was the transmission and he threw it into reverse at 35 MPH. So much for my car. That brother is still a SOB in my book.

This year has been pretty good. Power was off in March from a late snow that broke a lot of trees. During the heat waves I think they only cut power to the large urban areas and we haven't had it cut off for wind events and fire danger either.
Down the road though, if Arizona and the pacific northwest go as "green" as CA there isn't going to be any surplus power to tap into. Then what?

Good evening,
I'm de-lurking for a bit, if y'all will allow.
Re: "Letting the people decide"
Don't you think the fact that the American People have returned a republican majority to the U.S. senate for the last THREE election cycles might be a clue as to who they want deciding on Supreme Court justices?

CCGirl

Crazy, Ig. I can’t believe we are living in this age of lies, fraud, and deceit.

In spite of it all, I am optimistic. I think Trump will win overwhelmingly. If not, well then I am mentally prepared for the worst. I just keep that in the back of my mind.

Jane

Now told it’s 3.2 inches.

No issues ccgirl. I always said I’d never live in FL too.i actually bought my house on a whim 5 years ago (easy if you don’t have a family). Took me a year to get used to the heat (which I could never imagine getting used to), bills are 1/6th of what I paid in MA, and after 5 years I have to admit I really like it here- and we have a great Governor and are free!

Matt:

I thought of you today when I made my first stab at Lamb Shanks Rogan Josh. Had to cook it on the top of the stove in my big cast iron frying pab (which has a braising lid) because my big oven has no door at the moment (loong story). All things concerned, it turned out pretty well, and it's actually not hard to make at all. It's basically the same process as braising short ribs, using different spices, and tastes just as fabulous. I got the lamb shanks from d'Artagnon (sp?), with a big tip of a grateful hat to Clarice for introducing them.

Porchlight

I guess there are a lot of rumors out there about Parscale having embezzled from the campaign. Seems hard to believe. I'll wait for details. Godspeed to the Texan Viking.

Just went back to read the comments on that Mirengoff piece I linked upthread. He wasn’t just filleted, he was skinned alive. I’m really surprised he hasn’t, ahem, jumped ship to The Bulwark. Pathetic, he is.

I’m hosting a braised lamb shank/Barolo dinner a week from tomorrow, JMH. You’re welcome to join us! But then, that might mean a tad too much lamb in such a short time frame...😉

Barbara

Matt,

I had a Corvair back in the 60's. That car was dangerous. It gave me all kinds of problems. I remember driving along one afternoon after visiting my favorite dress shop. As I pressed on the gas pedal nothing happened. I got out and opened the cover over the engine and found it was on fire.

People foolishly just stood around watching as I ran into the nearest store and told them to call the fire department. When I went back outside, a young man came along, removed his sports coat and used it to smother the fire. He was like the Lone Ranger. After the fire was out, he picked up his coat and just walked away. I still believe he was my Guardian Angel.

I had the car towed away for good. Then I bought my cute little VW.

clarice

D'Artagnan is great--try their veal sometime,JMH-It's imported from France and is the best you can find here. And their moulard duck breasts.

Will no doubt change. They're small in our early raw sample at the moment. But in that sample, Venezuelans in Florida are breaking 78% for
@realDonaldTrump
over
@JoeBiden
.

Btw, Puerto Ricans tend to be overrepresented in samples of Florida Hispanics in media/university polls.

Ignatz Ratzkiwatzki

--I’m really surprised he hasn’t, ahem, jumped ship to The Bulwark.--

According to Powerline guy Scott Johnson, Mirengoff doesn't read any comments.
Regardless he wouldn't be welcome at The Bulwark. There are some, possibly many things he does like about Trump, and I have no doubt he will happily vote for him, even though there are things he doesn't like about him.
He fairly explicitly despises Biden and the Dems as a whole.

Porchlight

You pretty much have to order duck confit from D'Artagnan for cassoulet unless you have some really good local sources.

Instead, I have gone in the past with a Texas cassoulet from Evan Jones: blackeyed peas with duck breast and country ham.

clarice

Nytol. Gird your loins the next few months will be jumping. Smooches

Re: the 10:19, via same source, ~55,000 Venezuelans are residents of FL who are eligible to vote this year.

Every little bit helps.

Ignatz Ratzkiwatzki

Corvairs did have a tendency to overheat because they had a peculiar fan and accessory belt setup that turned a couple of 90 degree corners and it tended to come off if not adjusted just right.
Don't know if that was what caused your fire Barbara but it was pretty common.
BTW, the VW bug had the very same rear suspension setup until the end that Ralph Nader claimed made the first gen Corvairs unsafe at any speed.

JM Hanes

Narciso:

I love archaeological mysteries. This bit from the article on Morgantina amused me:

The centrepiece of a visit to Morgantina is the focal point of the 5th to 3rd century BC city: the agora, set in a dip between two hills and surrounded by various public buildings, is overlooked from the East and West by slopes on which fine private homes are set. The rigidly rectilinear street grid, blithely ignoring the natural contours of the terrain, is evident in those residential quarters.
Romans gotta roman!

I've been watching the Time Team archaeology series while working on my photos, partly because it just keeps going and going. It was on so long that you can watch the presenters age as they go along.

JM Hanes

You said it, clarice!

Narciso

Speaking of Never Trumpers, does anyone here remember, or is aware of anything subsequently written about it, what sort of horse trading went on in the selection of GHWB as Reagan's VP? Although he served as a second in command just fine, I don't think he ever took back the "voodoo economics" jibe and during his terrible four years as President spared no effort to undo what Ronnie put in place. Reagan wasn't the type to second guess his successor or, more typical of the GOPe, dispatch underlings to snipe at him, but my underlying point is would the progenitors of the NTs have been Never Reagans with a less squishy VP choice? Like Goldwater endured from Rockefeller, Scranton and George Romney.

JM Hanes

lyle:

I let you know what time to send someone for me at the airport! Can you have too much lamb?

Barbara

I didn't know that, Ignatz. If I had, I probably wouldn't have bought the VW. Fortunately, I never had a problem with the bug.
