Eli Lilly's new monoclonal antibody therapy for COVID seems to succeed at mitigating COVID when administered early:
A single infusion of an experimental drug markedly reduced levels of the coronavirus in newly infected patients and lowered the chances that they would need hospitalization, the drug’s maker announced on Wednesday.
...
More than 450 newly diagnosed patients received the monoclonal antibody or a placebo infusion. Some 1.7 percent of those who got the drug were hospitalized, compared with 6 percent of those who received a placebo — a 72 percent reduction in risk, Eli Lilly reported.
Well. First, 94% of untreated patients did not need hospitalization. A positive test result is hardly a death sentence, as we all know.
That said, a 1.7% chance of progressing to hospitalization is better than a 6% chance. A breakdown on how this therapy affected different age groups would be of tremendous interest to the old-timers out there, not to mention at the keyboard.
Pretty much as effective as HCQ when taken early. Let's hope the President does tout this drug.

I finally got a chance yesterday to watch the video of the British Dr. Johnson (I think that's his name) about the Spanish hospitals (controlled) trial of giving Vitamin D to covid patients that someone posted on jom. It had approximately the same success rate.
The doctor says it is 'unethical' of WHO and an Oxford group not to be performing large scale trials of this vitamin right now because it is an effective treatment. This hospital was also giving HCQ and the Azithromycin antibiotic as their preferred treatment.
Unethical? I think it's hideous and criminal of the people in charge of once-respected health institutions, spineless doctors, the heads of all of the USA's media organizations, as well as the world's, to indulge their hatred of our president, as well as how far the reach of the Chi-Com's money has destroyed so many corporations and institutions -- all in an evil lust for control and power.
I am so pissed off at the left and its evil and lunacy this morning. I can barely write coherently.

That union would be the Rathke Army, or SEIU, here. They're also trying to shut down the Chicago hospital system through strikes, since they got that "Health Care Worker" mandate rammed through the IL Legislature, and got themselves named as the only "qualified" union, and thus got the only direct funding from the state Medicare coffers for dues. Quite the scam.
And it's ALWAYS just about the money.

I need a Walden Pond. :)
Guess that is a state of mind, so that's why lately I've been taking a few 'news free days' every week.
Yesterday at yoga (all of us masked up and social distancing) one of the women mentioned she'd been to some shop or business that didn't require masks (she and I, plus several more of the yogis) don't believe wearing the masks prevents much but are required to wear them to do the yoga classes) -- anyway, one of the other women (who has told me she keeps a running tally every day of new cases, hospitalizations, deaths in our county, plus the state (she has a spread sheet) -- and has kept it since last Spring when we opened up) shook her head and said, 'THAT'S DANGEROUS' about not requiring masks. People have been scared, no, terrified, by Fauci, Birk, WHO, the news media, and who knows when it will change.
Posted by: joan | September 18, 2020 at 09:32 AM
Jane and joan,
You should live with one like I do! She's still scared of not wearing a mask and when I try to point out that the masks don't do any good I get this long argument about wearing masks in hospital operating rooms and so forth.
She doesn't believe me about mortality and accuses me of just making stuff up to defend Trump and then won't discuss politics any more.
This wears me out, which is why I appreciate President Trump's energy and rallies. And I am SO tired of the talking point that he's only in it for himself!

An online friend lives near Chico, CA a couple hours north of Sacramento.
They took in relatives force-evacuated from the Santa Cruz fire ... then all of them were evac'ed to a campground as fire came to their NorCal area. It's been days and touch-and-go but his town and home are still OK so far.
He gets occasional internet access. I had not heard of the FireSafe Council before but doubtless Ig is familiar with them.
"The article below talks about the FireSafe Council TRIED to do in Berry Creek…but got stopped by the “Environmental” geniuses, who wanted an 18 month delay to “study the environmental impact” of cutting down trees!
I work with the FireSafe Council, and in OUR area we had a grant of almost exactly the same size, but WE fought to get the work done…and they did it. We may still burn, but the excellent people at the FireSafe Council have given us a chance. Berry Creek is GONE…the 120 acres of “fire mitigation” (roughly the amount they did around our little town) might have saved them."

Starting today, the Town has asked citizens to snap pictures of citizens they observe who are not masked and to email them to the Town so the miscreant can be identified and "dealt with"
I checked out a new gym yesterday and carried a mask inside, figuring I'd have to put it on at a gym if anywhere. Nope. No one was wearing masks; not the woman at the front desk or anyone else.
This morning, I went there to work out and, again, no one was wearing masks. I didn't even carry one in.
I think the Dem NC governor would gladly try to restrict people's rights, just like OL described, if he wasn't worried about being reelected.

Anyone catch Mark Levin last night? About the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania, which is 5-2 Dems making rulings that gives an extra two days to count ballots among other questionable rulings. Anyway, Levin said that the state legislature which is majority Republican had the power to overturn it. I tried reading the state Constitution of PA but didn't see anything to that effect. Another questionable ruling by the SCOTCOPA was that the signature on mail in ballots didn't have to match what was on file.

GUS, yeah, but I love the initial blank look before that calculation kicks in.

Peter, does the signature on your credit card have to match??
Posted by: GUS | September 18, 2020 at 11:43 AM
Gus,good question, although quite honestly most commercial transactions that I use my card, no one check. If Biden is allowed to steal Pennsylvania, we may all be going to "Comma-La" reeducation camp next year.

Ext, did you see my note the other day about the Toyota dealership south of town?

1. From a PBS (paid for with our tax money) reporter:
Yamiche Alcindor

Trump just announced he will soon be signing an executive order establishing a "national commission to promote patriotic education" called the "1776 Commission."
It is unclear what that means but he has been trashing the 1619 project which aims to educate the nation with facts.
2. So this obnoxious retiree (also paid with our tax money) chimes in:
Gen Michael Hayden
@GenMhayden
I have a masters degree. I ran CIA and NSA. Trump wants a patriotic commission, 1776 Commission. What does he know about that? Absolutely nothing. And he’s not interested in facts.
3. Kurt Schlichter succinctly makes the point:
Kurt Schlichter
@KurtSchlichter
Anyone surprised we're still in Afghanistan?

Sundown came early today.
@timmurtaugh
Joe Biden’s handlers are playing “hide the candidate” from the local media in Minnesota.
Local TV anchor/producer wonders “what’s the point of coming here at all?”

The worst kind of argument from authority or appeal to authority is when it is your own retarded authority you're appealing to.
As evidence of his idiocy we have the incoherent non sequitur that Trump knows nothing about "a patriotic commission, 1776 commission."
Presumably the numbnuts means Trump knows nothing about the events of 1776 not a commission regarding it. Regardless, isn't that the point of a commission; to gather some actual authorities [some of whom may even have masters degrees] and teach actual history?

Mirengoff with more on the petard Princeton detonated in its own paws.
So an institution admits to systemic racism and then is investigated by Betsy DeVos and Trump for their admitted discrimination.
Too funny. What did they think was going to happen?
They'd get a pat on the head and a cookie as if Barry was still in charge?

Dear former General Libtard Hayden.
Donald J Trump has a MASTERS DEGREE.
How about FUCK YOU.
