I don't think the President is trying to ride in on the violence for a second term. That seems to be a very cheap shot.

Yep.

For Dave (in MA) if he should see this...

Did Rask have some family emergency that explained his walking out on the team last week? At the time, it was announced only that he’d “opted out”. Rask defenders are now claiming a child was ill?

Thomas Collins

Before the Woo Floo lockdowns and the rioting and looting, Trump was going to attempt to ride a solid economic and foreign policy performance to a second term. Trump's emphasis on law and order is a reasonable response to Dem politicians who encourage or at least tolerate rioting and looting.

Another Bob

The Yellow Loon is taking a victory lap after the DC Appeals court decision.

Thomas Collins

Ironically, it is actually Team Biden that is cynically using the rioting and looting, not Team Trump. Even in the cosmos of shameless political talking points, the Dem line that Trump is responsible for the rioting and looting stands out. The Dems supported rioting and looting as part of the Team Biden's talking point of return to normalcy. There are also Dems who view rioting and looting as an appropriate means of achieving social justice.

Thomas Collins

Tampa Bay just outplayed the Broonz. Whatever Rask's reasons were, a tip of the cap to the Lightning. Another example of the President's Cup meaning squat. Just ask Tampa Bay fans about that one.

We have a President who is hoping to ride this violence back into the White House and a challenger whose party can't or won't rein itself in. Helluva way to run a country.

Jesus motherfucking christ, TM. That is the most dishonest and ignorant thing I've seen in a long time, from someone who certainly ought to know better.

The violence is ENTIRELY caused and encouraged and abetted by the progressives, and by many, including Members of Congress and former presidential candidates in the Democratic Party.

And it's been going on a lot longer than the past few months, and a lot longer than President Trump's term.

The "tradition" of violent unrest in the pacific northwest goes back to at least the late 1990s and the anarchist violence during the WTO meetings. The BLM garbage goes back to Obama's term. Antifa comes out of the Occupy Wall Street crap that got started under Obama's administration in 2011.

And the whole fetish for leftist organized political terrorism, and the media and Democrat Party's embrace of it, goes back to the 1960s and the SDS.

It's not Trump's goddamn fault, TM, and mybe if Democrat mayors and governors actually did their jobs and protected the citizens who pay their salaries, instead of joining in with the protestors, we wouldn't be having the violence we now see. Grow the hell up already.

--Helluva way to run a country.--

By this definition Lincoln played the country for chumps by riding slavery into the White House.
Isn't that kind of how self governance is supposed to work? Hey here's a big problem. Here's how I'll fix it.
There is a disreputable party threatening to tear apart and destroy the country if they don't get their way and it's the same one that did the same in Lincoln's day. And the fastidious #neverabes of Lincoln's day held him in the same contempt the #nevertrumpers do the guy facing down the bat shit crazy Dems again.

Consider history. There have certainly been many useless corrupt and greedy Republicans. But pretty much every malicious, anti Constitutional, destructive, intentional existential domestic threat we have faced has been at the hands of the Dems. They're like Churchill's Huns except they never display the virtue of being at one's feet.

Good Morning! Happy September. Hubby and I were just discussing Covid. On Sunday,he had a friend from up north spend the day with him kayaking on the river. We caught up with some gossip and were stunned to find out about mutual friends who happen to be his neighbors. He and his wife haven't seen them all summer. He told us they are scared to death of Covid. These people are smart and wonderful. They have been traveling around the country in their new RV. They visited us in Florida two winters ago. Hubby just texted them and asked about their travel plans, hope to see you in Florida. The response was,we won't be traveling this winter because of Covid. For some reason, I'm upset. Does even unprovoked MACE use justify a homicide?

MissMarple2

When I was listening to the President's interview with Laura Ingraham last night, he pulled a paper out of his coat pocket which had the statistics of how many arrests the Justice Department was reporting in several cities for federal firearms violations, drug trafficking and other assorted crimes. That didn't seem to me to be a man interested in encouraging violence.

He also isn't the ignoramus and blowhard that the New York Times portrays, so I think I would look for another news source.

Also, Carlos Osweda did an analysis of that shooting in Portland because there seem to be a couple of different videos on the internet, and Carlos seems to think that that situation in Portland involves trained, organized terrorists which I am pretty sure that the President, nor anyone who supports him, is interested in encouraging.

President Trump is a good man; not a saint, of course, but I don't see any other person of accomplishment and wealth putting everything aside to fix what he can in this country while being insulted and persecuted constantly by a bunch of weasels, crooks, and commies. It hurts my heart that someone who should know better has such an erroneous opinion.

Robin, Verizon is the best of the major carriers in rural upstate NY and it's pretty terrible. NY pols talk a lot about broadband access, but they have managed to squash competition by smaller local companies by limiting access to poles for infrastructure.

We had a similar mess here since the beginning of cell coverage. The lefty/greenie/tinfoil crowd forced ordinances that crippled any growth in the area. 3-4 yrs ago T-Mobile snuck in and cut a deal with our power co-op and built out a network from scratch using power company right of way and existing poles. Coincident to that a local internet company was brought into the game and fiber was added in a perfectly harmonious fashion that has totally transformed the island. Amazingly it was all executed without the county getting a chance to throw any roadblocks up. We switched to T-Mobile and never looked back. Coincidentally (or not) the CEO of T/M flies up every weekend and hangs out on his lovely yacht right across from our pals.

Dr Pearbottom poorly answers a hypothetical in her comment section. As part of that answer she gets weepy and throws out some guesses:

Where it gets a little dicey is in the case of people who have heart attacks and strokes and also test positive for Covid. We know that Covid causes significant blood clotting so it would be very appropriate to draw the conclusion that if someone had covid and a heart attack, it was likely related and contributed to their cause of death. I would suspect (though there is no way to know for sure) that there are a significant number of people who have died of Covid-related morbidities who were never tested for Covid, and thus, it does not show up on their death certificate.

She suspects that covid deaths are undercounted. No wonder she went nuts over the 6 Percenters.

It was shit-broth IMO, Ig. I should say shit-broth with zest! (Her dippy dappy style of down home writing really made it pop)

I don’t find fault with the explanation of how a death certificate gets filled out but all that detail became a non sequitur when she explained the 6%. She didn’t discuss how the incorrect info could get past a medical examiner. In most jurisdictions they are in between the CDC and the doctor. Also, the CDC has been collecting death certificate info for many many years. They would reject anything that was filled out incorrectly. If she wants to blame a sloppy CDC, which I am sure would be an argument with merit, it would still require factual data. I don’t think she deals in those.

Lastly, since her argument boiled down to ignorant, inept, or lazy doctors caused 6% of the covid deaths to be misrepresented, wouldn’t that be a good basis to check the other 94% for their accuracy? You have the possibility that add Lazy filled out more than one DC. If the other DC he signed meets her criteria then she has to rebias herself. At this point she is holding a position that the doctors who wrote 94% of the DC did it like her so the must be completely accurate.

I think it is bunk. Get more data Pearbottom.
