RSE, OL cannot stand much more. He might get pessimistic.

:-)

rse

OL--

didn't want you to miss this aspect--

Prepared in collaboration with Deloitte, EY, KPMG and PwC

So basically the accounting firms one needs to employ to audit financials if you are a public company are all on board with reimagining the nature of capitalism.

Melinda

Pulled from elsewhere:

"They are using the mail sort machines to locate the "bad ballots" and dispose of them, that's the only way so many that had been mailed in could have ended up in the same dumpster."

rse

And not to annoy iggy who did such a fine job directing me on going south from mendocino on cph without incident, but notice that a key component of that paper is the "Principles of Governance" and how it ties to these government set goals, metrics, and data gathering vision for us.

joan

$200 - $800 ... when bad people are millionaires and billionaires?

Melinda

rse-

Like Nikola's Auditor, E&Y?

peter

My favorite Beatles is the BBC tracks that they recorded- mainly covers of American rock and roll and girl group stuff recorded before they came to America. I'm piano-oriented musically, so I could always relate better to the more McCartney influenced songs on the later albums, the two (Lennon and McC) definitely needed each other to round out the other's quirks. Heard the entire body of work- all albums - way too many times to truly enjoy them at this point.

Old Lurker

RSE, that is interesting.

In construction, we count on Architects to be "artists" and Engineers to trust nothing until they do the math.

In business, we count on CFO-MBA types to be creative, but the Auditors to 'trust nothing until they do the math". Ledgers had to balance to the penny and all the debits had to sum to all the credits.

Those firms you list have just cut their own throats in the long run.

BeastsEngland

Are we doing predictions for the Sullivan ruling this afternoon? Has there been any speculation that he may drop the case today because the media focus on the debate outcome will provide cover for his malfeasance?

I’m predicting that he won’t dismiss the case, because he’s a piece of shit.

Old Lurker

Beasts "... provide cover for his malfeasance?"

For people like him, malfeasance is a virtue.

BeastsEngland

And that’s why he’s a piece of shit, OL. :)

Extraneus

I'm predicting that if he doesn't drop the case, Barr will get Jensen to release more damning stuff about Sullivan's allies in the DoJ and Special Counsel's office, and maybe the White House.

Presumably it won't make a bit of difference to NYT advertisers to know the NYT thinks they're predatory, blood sucking leeches, nor to their readers to know the NYT thinks they're hapless, helpless bumpkins.

If I were Trump, I absolutely would. I'd have them backstage and start my opening remarks with something like "Before we start, my opponent's grandchild is waiting in the green room, and he wants to know why grandpa Joe doesn't care about him."

Porchlight

Iowahawk had diminished his twittering almost entirely to car posts. He didn't enjoy the blowback on his wrong opinions re: Trump, I imagine.

He's taken breaks before but I don't think he's ever deleted his account.

It's also possible he was doxxed. I figured out his real name a long time ago so I'm not surprised if others did too.

Melinda

OL,

Regardless of the outcome of the election, Tucker is very very worried about the direction of the country. Has nothing to do wit Trump, but he can only last so long. 9not his words, mine). His final guest - long after I plunged into the abyss - was a Democrat Russian professor - who was concerned as hell that the democrats are marching to communism.

No one is trying to stop it.

Posted by: artisanal 'ette at September 29, 2020 09:26 AM (rjE57)

I don't even think that blackmail would be necessary. How many of the GOP (uniparty) establishment would go along with the results of a tainted election - simply to preserve the integrity of a tainted electoral process ?

This type of circular thinking is why a corrupt FBI is still defended - even by those that know of it's corruption. The same can be said for countless other agencies, systems, and institutions. People come to love the existence of an entity - even while the entity works against them.

To whoever asked above Azerbaijan, is a predominately Muslim country that borders Armenia a predominately Orthodox Christian country squeezed between Azerbaijan on the east and the implacable Turks on tgheir West who of course have their own disgraceful history with Armenia. Inside Azerbaijan is the enclave of mostly Orthodox Armenians known as Nagorno-Karabakh[sp?].
There was a referendum around the time the USSR broke up and NK voted to unite with Armenia. A war was subsequently fought until the mid 90s which resolved essentially nothing.

The Union of Catholic Asian News (UCA News) reported last week that a textbook produced for vocational students by the Chinese University of Electronic Science and Technology Press changed the ending of the famous Gospel story.

As in the original, the crowd cites law as their justification for stoning an adulteress to death. Jesus says "Let the one who has never sinned throw the first stone." The accusers leave, one by one.

But then, according to the textbook, "When the crowd disappeared, Jesus stoned the sinner to death saying, 'I too am a sinner. But if the law could only be executed by men without blemish, the law would be dead'."

rse

lyle--

That's a good essay, but this part is simply not factually accurate.

For those of our readers with lives apart from their CRB subscriptions, can you summarize the import of these unconscionably thorough elucidations?

I conclude by endorsing the opinion of National Review’s Stanley Kurtz: the likeliest preview of a Biden presidency can be found in higher education, where college presidents say all the right things about academic freedom, and then do all the wrong things to protect it.

These presidents are not themselves radicals. They sincerely hope to facilitate enlightenment and concord in their small fiefdoms. They interact skillfully with donors and trustees, crafting sympathetic though non-committal reassurances that placate even the registered Republicans. Ultimately, though, the correlation of forces always argues for acceding, often preemptively, to the demands of left-wing students, faculty members, and administrators. These are the people who, more than any others, will determine whether a college president’s life is miserable or tolerable.

Most heads of the elite schools and much of public ed in place now are there precisely because they are radical change agents. It's why those individuals made the short list.
