I have a hard time seeing the Times story about Trump's taxes changing any minds. Jim Geraghty notes an unsurprising gap between Trump's rhetoric and behavior. More shoulder shrugging from Reason - active real estate investors get plenty of tax breaks.
Whatever. It saves the media from wondering why the FBI relied on a possible Russian agent for the FISA requests backed by the Steele dossier.
Interestingly, Mr. Danchenko co-authored a paper with Fiiona Hill, a star of the Trump Impeachment Show.
Ms. Hill went on to join President Trump’s National Security Council staff as a senior European specialist in 2017. She also testified at his House impeachment hearing. She said she believed Mr. Steele, with whom she once worked while he was a British intelligence officer, was played by Russian disinformation.
Steele, duped?
RSE, OL cannot stand much more. He might get pessimistic.

My favorite Beatles is the BBC tracks that they recorded- mainly covers of American rock and roll and girl group stuff recorded before they came to America. I'm piano-oriented musically, so I could always relate better to the more McCartney influenced songs on the later albums, the two (Lennon and McC) definitely needed each other to round out the other's quirks. Heard the entire body of work- all albums - way too many times to truly enjoy them at this point.
Posted by: peter | September 29, 2020 at 08:52 AM
RSE, that is interesting.
In construction, we count on Architects to be "artists" and Engineers to trust nothing until they do the math.
In business, we count on CFO-MBA types to be creative, but the Auditors to 'trust nothing until they do the math". Ledgers had to balance to the penny and all the debits had to sum to all the credits.
Those firms you list have just cut their own throats in the long run.

This type of circular thinking is why a corrupt FBI is still defended - even by those that know of it's corruption. The same can be said for countless other agencies, systems, and institutions. People come to love the existence of an entity - even while the entity works against them.

To whoever asked above Azerbaijan, is a predominately Muslim country that borders Armenia a predominately Orthodox Christian country squeezed between Azerbaijan on the east and the implacable Turks on tgheir West who of course have their own disgraceful history with Armenia. Inside Azerbaijan is the enclave of mostly Orthodox Armenians known as Nagorno-Karabakh[sp?].
There was a referendum around the time the USSR broke up and NK voted to unite with Armenia. A war was subsequently fought until the mid 90s which resolved essentially nothing.

The Union of Catholic Asian News (UCA News) reported last week that a textbook produced for vocational students by the Chinese University of Electronic Science and Technology Press changed the ending of the famous Gospel story.
As in the original, the crowd cites law as their justification for stoning an adulteress to death. Jesus says "Let the one who has never sinned throw the first stone." The accusers leave, one by one.
But then, according to the textbook, "When the crowd disappeared, Jesus stoned the sinner to death saying, 'I too am a sinner. But if the law could only be executed by men without blemish, the law would be dead'."

lyle--
That's a good essay, but this part is simply not factually accurate.
For those of our readers with lives apart from their CRB subscriptions, can you summarize the import of these unconscionably thorough elucidations?
I conclude by endorsing the opinion of National Review’s Stanley Kurtz: the likeliest preview of a Biden presidency can be found in higher education, where college presidents say all the right things about academic freedom, and then do all the wrong things to protect it.
These presidents are not themselves radicals. They sincerely hope to facilitate enlightenment and concord in their small fiefdoms. They interact skillfully with donors and trustees, crafting sympathetic though non-committal reassurances that placate even the registered Republicans. Ultimately, though, the correlation of forces always argues for acceding, often preemptively, to the demands of left-wing students, faculty members, and administrators. These are the people who, more than any others, will determine whether a college president’s life is miserable or tolerable.
Most heads of the elite schools and much of public ed in place now are there precisely because they are radical change agents. It's why those individuals made the short list.

Our Great 1st Amendment, our Great 2nd Amendment, our right to worship God & so much more comes down to one vote on the Court. @TedCruz has a fantastic new book, “One Vote Away”, out today! It's the best book to read as we fight to #ConfirmACB to #SCOTUS.

Iggy, I have a friend who is interested in Azeri music (the new young kids who are influenced by folks styles there but not fully folk). He's visited several times. Baku is neck deep in oil money and yes, very very corrupt.
He says that parts of the country are like California must have been in the old days - small farms in the hills with beautiful orchards and vineyards.

Right, Clarice. It is not a debate. I am not sure what to call it.
