A research and development lab of the Chinese tech giant Huawei Technologies in the southern city of Dongguan caught fire, producing large clouds of thick grey smoke. Locals caught the incident on camera.

The videos show plumes of smoke coming from the building’s top floors, and largely obscuring the sky above the facility. According to the local fire department, the flammable sound-absorbing cotton which the facility was using may be the main source of the blaze.

Henry, if RUTHLESS BABY KILLER GINSBURG has her "I'M STILL DEAD" road show, stop at every POST OFFICE, would that include a DITCH IN GREENVILLE (APPLETON) WI.?

CH, to my recollection, I believe the FBI is full of good accountants who can trace funds. They could provide forensics re fingerprints and DNA to police forces around the country, though--even there--their fraud on hair samples and teech bite marks discredits much of that. The C/I function should be stripped from the FBI. I think Obama destroyed the agency, bringing in to the 7th floor thugs from elsewhere. As for how to restructure it from there, I am not sure.

GUS

Regarding the FBI, I got so exasperated that earlier this year I wanted everything removed except the fingerprint lab.

After reading those documents that were just released, it seems to me that Comey combed the Bureau for the most corrupt people, and promoted them to the seventh floor. All of them looked like weasels.

And I have a big question no one has ever asked and answered:

In this day and age of recordings, WHY are agents still writing their "impressions" of interviews when dealing with suspects? And not only that, but writing these down AFTER the suspect has left, relying solely on their memories? I can understand taking notes while a recording is being made, but now, why should I believe an account of Strzok's over Flynn's? It makes absolutely no sense.

Captain Hate

Reading TWA Flight 800 and Cashill sets the hook early by telling of a witness who contacted him because an FBI agent made up a second 302 based on an interview which never happened.

Ignatz Ratzkiwatzki

We can abolish the FBI and the CIA and any other acronym you choose and the problem will remain that whatever is created to do those necessary parts of their function will be corrupted.
The problem is what Codevilla calls the Ruling Class. We live increasingly in a country of two cultures and the Ruling Class culture dominates the institutions because it is the reservoir from which the formal institutions draw their members and their power.
That's what makes the political resolution of our predicament so difficult. With the advent of the progressives in the Teddy Roosevelt/Woodrow Wilson era, we entered a political regime in which one party and much of the other sought, in the end, to put an end the American experiment in limited and local self governance. The essence of a successful and sustainable politics is the mutual agreement that compromise will occur in BOTH directions and therefore reasonable accommodations can be agreed to that are not wholly satisfactory to anyone, but that prevent a civil war 2 from erupting. At that point, over 100 years ago we were set on a course that would inevitably lead to the Ruling Class's dictatorial ambitions vs whatever portion of the citizenry that rejects being ruled.

The nature of the power of those being ruled and their informal institutions is vast, still greater than the Ruling Class's IMO. But it is diffused and unorganized and increasingly ostracized and isolated. But it isn't going anywhere.
Because the Ruling Class owns the more visible formal institutions it not only overestimates its power, but being inherently authoritarians they mean to exercise it. Exercise makes one stronger, so if those they wish to rule don't fight back effectively, there is considerable danger of the Ruling Class's power eclipsing those they wish to rule. If and when that happens, the pretense that a political resolution is still possible will have been revealed as impossible because the Ruling Class has no intention of seeking one and things will then come to a head via nonpolitical means. Would be dictators always eventually remove the mask and make a naked play for absolute power. We appear to be in the middle of just such an event.
How it plays out remains to be seen, but it is going to be a time of extraordinary risk for the US.

MissMarple2

Jack,

I have no idea. He seems pretty unstable and unhealthy to me, but if they can keep Nadler and Feinstein tottering around Congress, I suppose the Democrats don't see anything particularly amiss with Biden.

John S

It's clear why Biden is hidin'. We already know that he is only energetic enough to function in the morning. And the debate will be at 9 PM!! So obviously, he's sleeping during the day to train his body to be awake at 9 PM.
Each day at 9PM, he practices saying five slogans that will be used in the debate to ward off questions. The drinking game that suggests itself is tipping every time he repeats one of these slogans.

Captain Hate

Well stated, Iggy. I wish that was better understood by the majority of citizens although maybe it is and the enemedia mouthpieces keep acting otherwise.

Oops. Accidentally put this on the old thread;

Nice trick by the Massholes; the governor orders hospitalized Wuflu patients back into nursing homes and then the governor's sidekick prosecutes the nursing home operators when patients get sick and die from the Wuflu.
Now maybe these guys were negligent but wasn't the original and greater negligence forcing infected patients back among the most vulnerable population?
The death toll nationwide among nursing homes indicate the chances of keeping the bug out to begin with were not that great, but forcing people literally teeming with germs back into that environment was insanely stupid and reckless.

Stephanie Nene Not Your Normal Granma

The essence of a successful and sustainable politics is the mutual agreement that compromise will occur in BOTH directions and therefore reasonable accommodations can be agreed to that are not wholly satisfactory to anyone, but that prevent a civil war 2 from erupting.

That agreement was also based on an assumption that has been waylaid - that the 'credentialed' would be the best and brightest, not the politically purchased or rented. With merit, everyone knew their place (or strengths and weaknesses) and trust could be granted; with purchased/rented 'servants,' that trust can't be granted as the credential is no longer based on objective but subjective values which are themselves inherently biased as they are, at root, based on prejudice/bias. Trust will never be granted to prejudice/bias as it is based on the flaws of human weaknesses including seeking to grant stature to enhance one's own position. It always seems to devolve to the deadly sins, doesn't it?

Here's part of an interesting update from Michael Yon who has just returned to America after being kicked out of Hong Kong by the Chinese. As of this writing, he's in Portland.

If you’ve not ventured much abroad to bad countries, you may not realize the heaven you live in. THIS IS HEAVEN. Other than places like Portland.

I know, I know…a lot of my fellow Southerners think the West Coast is Dantes Inferno, but you don’t know what you are talking about. It’s really as great here as out East or in the Middle. Just come look at the other parts not Portland, Seattle, etc., and other wannabe-hells.

Rather than ship gear to America, makes more sense to re-outfit in America. So, Cabela’s. Been a long time since I last stepped in Cabela’s. I think in Kansas. Shopping heaven. You have no idea until you leave America, or Japan, or some place like this. Cherish your time.

The greeter at Cabela’s said there is no shortage of ammo. Said they did not raise any prices. The ammo comes by the truckload. Customers clean the shelves when it comes in. Supply lines are open but folks gobble 9mm and high demand ammo. He said customers come in, see the ammo, message their friends, and it’s gone.

There were many rifles but not many tactical types. Saw one that appeared to be .50 cal like a Barrett M82 but I did not ask.

I asked for tactical shotguns and he said no way. No Glocks. Some pistols but most of the 9mm gone. There were Kimber .45, some revolvers and .22s, including one of my favorite the .22 Buckmark. I’ve shot those things silly.

Food at CostCo and Walmart looked fully stocked but I have no baseline to know if something is missing. The place looked full. Corporate would know.

Moving from on the ground to the internet, we see Proud Boys and ANTIFA facing off. (We did see some minor pro-police rally in Portland two days ago.)

And then they excitedly started talking about their new houses in Telluride.

Apologies if this has already been posted (maybe I have dementia!), it's very good.

https://www.tabletmag.com/sections/news/articles/woke-religion-america

In breaking down the American population into three groups - Wokes, Trads (traditional religious), and Nones (atheists, non-believers, not affiliated with a religious group), the author thinks that the Trade and the Nones can form an alliance to quell the Wokes.

Despite their differences, an alliance could form between “trads” and the true “nones” who reject religion but may well see it as less of a threat than the growth of woke government power. Trads have all-encompassing beliefs that offend liberal and secular sensibilities. But they affirm the reality of biological differences between the sexes. They believe that your deeds and beliefs are more important than your race. Even when they reject the political formulations of liberalism, most still believe in the virtue of liberality and tolerance. Because they believe in the fallenness of man, they uphold the possibility of forgiveness. Like the “nones,” most “trads” are not utopians. Unlike the woke, they can tolerate those with fundamentally different beliefs. Trads and nones will never agree, but they can ally.

Signs of a none-trad alliance can already be seen in the growing connections between the relatively secular “Intellectual Dark Web” and conservative religious intellectuals. Last year, Bishop Robert Barron—one of the most intellectually sophisticated and technologically savvy leaders of the Catholic Church—appeared on the podcast of Jordan Peterson, whose work he has praised. Bret Weinstein and Heather Heying—atheists who supported Bernie Sanders—recently became visiting fellows at Princeton University’s James Madison Program, an organization run by the conservative Catholic thinker Robert P. George.

Wokeism could well become America’s established faith. If that outcome is to be prevented, the more skeptical, scientific, rationalist opponents of wokeism will need to join with people who have different reasons for opposing its utopian claims. Liberals who stress the provisional nature of knowledge, resist all-encompassing political claims, and seek space for public error and disagreement, have grounds for agreement with Jews, Christians, and others who believe that men are sinful and fallen. Leftists who are committed to the working class and focused on material progress above cultural symbolism, should be open to the moral and religious views held by many of its members.

This alignment is unlikely to be comfortable or uncomplicated. It would require sacrifices from both sides. Religious believers would have to make clear that they are able to tolerate the kind of pluralism that woke progressives cannot, even if they reject liberal ideology and the managerial approach to diversity. Anti-woke leftists and liberals would have to give up the idea that reason and religion, freedom and authority, are somehow opposed. Creating an alliance between the skeptical and the religious, the nones and the trads, will not be easy. But it may prove necessary.

I would be careful though iggy about using the term 'governance' as if it interchangeable with 'government' because in the 21st century that is no longer true. I am sensitive to it because the neurobiological template that an LMS tied to learning standards prescribing the cognitive, socio-emotional, and behavioral attributes to be altered and instilled in students always uses the term 'governance' to describe this new vision of citizenship that governments get to impose globally.

Here's a description from a social scince Big Data journal just out--

The term governance has been extensively used in the last two decades but its meaning is still ambiguous(Colebatch, 2014; Rhodes, 1996).Our understanding is informed by existing debates in the political science and risk scholarship (Colebatch, 2014; Kooiman, 2003;Rhodes, 1996) where, for example, governance has been framed as ‘the multitude of actors and processes that lead to collective binding decisions’ (Van Asselt and Renn, 2011: 431). Governance broadly refers to the web of actors involved, with different roles, in the process of governing a system. The term stresses a dis-continuity from so-called ‘command-and-control’ by the State, and acknowledges that a broader set of actors and institutions are (also) involved in managing societies (private sector, civil society and other non-government entities; Kooiman, 2003). Governing is the result of a process, which does not only occur through rule making and rule enforcing but develops also from (social) interactions, cooperation and negotiations between stakeholders at the horizontal level(Colebatch, 2014).

The notion of governance has a descriptive meaning but also has a normative scope capturing a way of‘rule-making’ (including strictly laws, but also regulations, standards, etc.) and the relative allocation of responsibilities and liabilities. Governance embraces a broader transition from more centralised to decentral-ised forms of rule-making. Van Asselt and Renn (2011:435) underline the normative understanding of governance describing it as a ‘model or framework for organizing and managing society’. This normative understanding promotes wider participation and increased accountability in formal decision-making processes. Participation of a broader set of stakeholders itself is indeed acknowledged as a value of good governance. From this point of view, the normative understanding of governance operates as a guiding and framing lens for our analysis. As Wolf (2002) puts it, the governance phenomenon takes place within horizontally organised structures where both state and non-state actors (including citizens) interact. Yet this is easier in theory than in practice as power disparities among actors continue to exist and matter. Market actors often benefit from these more fluid allocations of power and responsibilities(DeNardis, 2019; Srnicek, 2017), at the detriment of less (economically) powerful actors such as citizens, communities and civil society organisations (Heeksand Shekhar, 2019; Taylor and Broeders, 2015). This is particularly evident in the context of mediated environments where the dominant position of social media platforms, acting as intermediaries between users and information and infrastructures for (online) participation, leads to a ‘privatization of internet governance’(DeNardis, 2019).

Does increasing concern about law and order increase support for the president's 'Build the Wall?' among latinos? IOW does the desire for law and order also cause a recognition that maybe Trump was on to something and NOT a racist???

Interesting if true, that people could be repositioning over L&O and less over fears of xenophobia/racism.

I wonder if that could also cause those moving to support him over L&O to question other positions about the President that have long been 'settled science' by the MSM.

Could a preference cascade create a bias generation due to a voter needing to justify supporting Trump for personal safety cause bias realignment on other issues?

I had a good laugh at myself a few minutes ago -- Miss Marple, I just copied and sent your QUESTION about why the FBI continues to use the archaic (and certainly discredited) method of an FBI agent writing his 'perception' of an interview afterward the interview is over, and why don't they record the interview? Also included that you and I think "why should we believe Strzok instead of Flynn".

I'm still smiling. I know the emails to the Office of Presidential Correspondence go into a black hole round file, but it made me feel 'momentarily' better.

Interesting, though. I sent one of our church's Order of Service with prayers, scriptures, and song lyrics to President Trump's OPC, and instead of an acknowledgement of my concerns and emails, I got a copy of a letter from the president thanking me, with his signature.

Anyway, stuff like this takes my mind off of the insanity on the left.

Barbara, I thought it was impressive that the usually spineless GOP had the spine to resign in protest and make a big fuss.

Normally you would expect the corrupt/gutless to go along and say nothing.

What is worse for the Democrats is that they decided to have mail-in voting at the time when a couple of special elections for Senator may, in fact, allow them to stop the SCOTUS replacement. With the mail-ins, the outcome of the election will be delayed thus giving the Republicans more time to complete their SCOTUS confirmation before the special election allow the new Senators to be sworn in.
