I went to Kansas City on a Friday
By Saturday I learned a thing or two
But up 'till then I didn't have an idea
Of what the mod'rn world was comin' to.
I counted twenty gas buggies goin' by theirselves
Almost every time I took a walk
An' then I put my ear to a bell telephone
An' a strange woman started into talk.
What next! What next?
Everything's up to date in Kansas City
They gone about as fer as they can go
They went an' built a skyscraper seven stories high
About as high as a buildin' orta grow.
Everything's like a dream in Kansas City
It's better than a magic lantern show.
You can turn the radiator on whenever you want some heat
With every kind of comfort every house is all complete.
You could walk the privees in the rain and never wet your feet!
They've gone about as fer as they can go.
They've gone about as fer as they can go!
Some might accuse me of making this up just to buttress my 11:38.
God's honest truth, this just happened:
I posted the 11:38, checked my emails, then retired to my front porch where I like the ocean view and I can watch the world go by. We get lots of walkers, runners and bikers and, and, should I chose to sit in the right chair, I can engage in a very Norman Rockwell "Front Porch" community.
Or I can sit in the other chair hidden by the post whence I can watch and listen but not have to engage if I don't feel like it. If the wind is off the ocean, I can hear very clearly (often TOO clearly) what the strollers are talking about.
After linking the 11:38 I retired to my chair to watch the world go by. Shortly, an elderly gentleman and his 20 something granddaughter walked by. Swear to God, he was just then saying "Well, what I have really enjoyed about my life in The Law, is that 60-70% of the time The Law can be used for Social Good."
This is odd. I went to get Charles Payne's book on DJT's recommendation that MM posted. It is unavailable in any format at Amazon. Not even as Kindle version. How could that be?
Happy Birthday MM. Thanks for your dedication. I do think your daughter will come around. The hook is the horrific truth about children that is being gently revealed.

I told JOM at the time that on Nantucket, we name our houses and then have the old guy hand carve a quarterboard for the front with the name (takes months). So I knew it would be the end of the summer before the real signs were done.
Me being me, I called my sign guy at home and had him FedEx me two signs that would last the summer.
The first went on my house and named it "OCCUPY SCONSET" - our village name is Sconset - and the second went over the door of my free standing garage out back. It was named "99%".
BOY did that piss off a bunch of my new neighbors. Some of them are still pissed 9-10 years later.

I had even dealt with that foundation on occasion which is why the details struck.
I respect DJT but he really does need help if we are going to survive this war.
100% this. We are where we are today because the GOP wouldn't represent us in lieu of being the junior partner of Uniparty Inc. Although I thought OL was being overly cynical on DJT cutting a deal with the derp state to not go after his family, would anybody blame him? I'd also note that cutting a deal and honoring his pledge to ensure that what happened to him would never happen to anyone in the future aren't mutually exclusive.
Number of deaths reported yesterday was the lowest since July 5th and, prior to that, mid March. As with July 5th it was effected by the holiday but the trend is relentlessly down and has been since the end of July.
Number of new "cases", AKA positive tests, was the lowest since mid June.
To be fair, Cap'n, I introduced that notion (a DJT Deal) with a "what-if" then showed how that did produce a chain of data points that fit what we were and are seeing. It remains a "what-if" to me, but is balanced with a "I sure hope not" bookend.
I don't know, OL. The Flynn clusterfuck illustrates the impossibility of getting convictions of the guilty in DC, which is the ultimate derp state safe haven. I wish the ambulance chasers here would own up to how their dogshit profession has undermined the country, starting with Marbury v Madison, like I regularly do about the robber barons of IT.
I can vouch for the shift of law schools to the left. I occasionally use my alma mater's law library. Half the books are social justice crap. The sad thing is that recent graduates lack basic skills needed to practice law.
peter's such a nice guy I'd forgotten he's a corporate attorney. I'd imagine the recent law school graduate applicants go right in the shredder, assuming you don't have to store them.
Just got off the phone with my pal out visiting her grandkids, daughter and SIL in California.
She says the air is terrible and the sky is a weird color. They don't have to turn off their A/C but they pay like triple charges on electricity between 3 and 8 PM or something like that. She says she doesn't know how people put up with it.
Because of the China Virus, my Campaign, which has raised a lot of money, was forced to spend in order to counter the Fake News reporting about the way we handled it (China Ban, etc.). We did, and are doing, a GREAT job, and have a lot of money left over, much more than 2016....
....Like I did in the 2016 Primaries, if more money is needed, which I doubt it will be, I will put it up!
Thanks Narcisco for the Apelbaum link. Interesting. It's a mixed bag isn't it.
I particularly liked the bear with the MAGA hat hugging Trump. Did someone think that was real?
And the Q with the young JFKjr saluting at his father's funeral. I'm old enough to have seen that in real time. Is it possible he is still alive? Some Qanons think so?
Miss Marple, I was just looking at the sky here. The morning overcast has a slight yellow-orange tinge. We have the onshore wind as usual so the air is ok, but 'Weird' is the word that came to me also.
I am old enough to remember it in real time, too. The theory of those who think he's still alive is that the bodies and the plane were never found.
That I don't recall, as the entire thing was so shocking to me when it happened. I do think it odd how so many people are connected to each other and how ridiculously angry the democrats have behaved. Plus, the bizarre replies I get from anti-Trump people on Twitter is like dealing with the Zombie Apocalypse or something; their comments are absolutely vile.
In addition, there are a bunch of Chinese on there who are very belligerent and insulting. New Twitter members, too, with only 5-50 followers.
I know its all anedotal but where are the Biden boat parades, the crowds waving flags, lining the highways for miles when he drives by, the banners on all the handrails of apartments and condos?
I haven't seen any of that for Joe only the occassional but sparse yard signs.
Unlike the Trump signs, there are no video's of people going out of their way to steal them:)
Cap'n I know - have always known - about the problem of convicting a Dem of Jaywalking in DC.
My point is - has always been - that accepting that and therefore never even charging and prosecuting egregious crimes sends a clear signal to all the bad guys on ONE party that they have zero reason to stick to the law inside DC proper. That not only causes the bad guys in that party to be even worse bad guys, but it cements the attitude in the public that there are two sets of rules.
That last is the fatal disease.
IF a DoJ would bring charges that were well laid out in a timely fashion, then pursue them with great energy and indignation to the maximum extent of the law, including always trying for a change of venue, even losing a highly publicized and well presented case would do SOME good. One can say "yes, but trying and losing signals a bad thing"...but I would say huffing and puffing but never charging signals even worse things.
Case in point: Gen Flynn is revealing to all that will see how corrupt the Government and then the Judicial System has treated him. That has to penetrate some into the hard heads.
And if, as some say, Trump approval among Blacks is over 40%, maybe that can start to change things in DC.
Thanks for the verification! You may not have been on here when I was blathering about this, but I have a deep fear of forest fires, maybe from a combination of "Bambi" and the Smokey the Bear ads about "Only YOU can prevent forest fires" , both of which came out when I was kid.
CH@1:45, thank you for the compliment--I am pretty much done hiring millennials, and Gen Zs, which is now what is coming out of law school. Even those who superficially might seem culturally conservative are pretty useless. I guess that does not portend well.

Take a page from the D playbook and make the process the punishment. And put the evidence out there for the public to judge, even with DC jury nullification, and hope the alternative media can pierce the MFM coverup.
Steph, I started to say just that but deleted that part since the last time I said it, some people thought that we should be above using the process as the punishment, win or lose, because that makes us just like them.
But damn, being raided by swat teams at 4am, having your wife in her night gown felt up by thugs, then being bankrupted hiring lawyers should not just be for our side.
Plus if every crooked Dem had to lawyer up, even K Street would run short of A Team lawyers due to conflicts.

The poll has it tied. It is truly unbelievable how much lying these people do.

A liar lying about liars. Amazing.
I started a little discussion on another network about the video of a guy not wearing a mask being surrounded by three people in a supermarket very concerned about his lack of patriotism etc. Only one of the people appeared to work at the store. Neither of the people in the shot was wearing an adequate mask to actually stop transmission of bacteria or viruses and they were very close to this guy.
I have a challenge for people with silk scarves or those coffee filter masks: Would you take $1,000 to pull an 8 hour shift playing chess with a tuberculosis patient?
A guy told me tuberculoses is treatable now. Compared to what?
âIt is the leading infectious cause of death worldwide. The World Health Organization estimates that 1.8 billion peopleâclose to one quarter of the world's populationâare infected with Mycobacterium tuberculosis (M. tb), the bacteria that causes TB. Last year, 10 million fell ill from TB and 1.5 million died.â

Someday I'll make it back and introduce you to the nice people.
There are antibiotic treatments for TB now. Not sure of the cost and of widespread availability.
As to air quality, when I was up in UT/CO/ID/WY/MT 2 weeks ago the haze from the California wildfires had cut visibility down tremendously. I couldn't see the Tetons from one of the iconic lay-bys where everyone takes their pictures, just some hazy peaks in the distance.
This morning the temp here in OC is down to the low 70's with an odd, dark overcast that looks like a marine layer.
The Guardian article admits there is no evidence Beethoven was black. The only possibility he may have been "black" is that his Flemish ancestors might have mixed with Spanish Moors. But the Moors weren't black.

I can vouch for the shift of law schools to the left. I occasionally use my alma mater's law library. Half the books are social justice crap. The sad thing is that recent graduates lack basic skills needed to practice law.

Posted by: Art in Newport | September 08, 2020 at 01:59 PM
asw,
I am old enough to remember it in real time, too.

Posted by: Old Lurker | September 08, 2020 at 02:08 PM
Art in Newport,
Thanks for the verification! You may not have been on here when I was blathering about this, but I have a deep fear of forest fires, maybe from a combination of "Bambi" and the Smokey the Bear ads about "Only YOU can prevent forest fires" , both of which came out when I was kid.

Take a page from the D playbook and make the process the punishment. And put the evidence out there for the public to judge, even with DC jury nullification, and hope the alternative media can pierce the MFM coverup.
Posted by: jimmyk | September 08, 2020 at 02:26 PM
Steph, I started to say just that but deleted that part since the last time I said it, some people thought that we should be above using the process as the punishment, win or lose, because that makes us just like them.
But damn, being raided by swat teams at 4am, having your wife in her night gown felt up by thugs, then being bankrupted hiring lawyers should not just be for our side.
Plus if every crooked Dem had to lawyer up, even K Street would run short of A Team lawyers due to conflicts.

All the best, MM!
