Apparently some asshoes are trying to sabotage that Great Barrington Declaration by signing with fake names. I suppose they should have used some security where at least the signers have to confirm from their emails. But the panic porn crowd is using that to smear the entire message.
Nick Saban is being uncharacteristically pissy about accusing Lane Kiffin of stealing his defensive signals, as if those are the same as when he was the OC. Maybe while he was OC he figured out how he'd attack the defense if ever given the opportunity.
The New England Journal of Medicine, one of the two most prestigious medical journals, just endorsed Biden. They had never endorsed a political candidate before, of course.
I am sick of it too. And it is not just business: government sites usually request you complete a survey whenever one finishes whatever task that required the visit.
Everybody tries to figure out the other team's signals from the sidelines. Teams also have someone giving decoy signals to make it harder for the other team to decipher the signals. When the offense runs a hurry up offense like Ole Miss does it doesn't give the defense much time to get signals (real and decoy) in. Saban wasn't accusing Kiffin of cheating. He was just pointing out he thinks Kiffin's coaching staff deciphered Bama's defensive signals. It's part of the game and good coaching on Kiffin's part.
Garros crashed and the German engineers led by Fokker found the (interrupter designed prop), reverse engineered to a better design and the Americans and Brits lived to regret it.
In watching how fast CalFire buttoned up the Napa fire and one that started on the same day near Redding, both of which ballooned to 50,000 acres very fast, it's increasingly clear that by far the biggest factor in our 4 million+ acre fire season was not climate change [duh] nor even poor forest and wildland management.
It was 500 fires being set off simultaneously by one of our infrequent widespread dry lightning events, several of which involved multiple fires being started near each other which allowed several small fires to quickly merge and create very large ones. That many fires at once spread fire response so thin that in those first critical days when fires can be knocked down to something reasonable there was simply not enough manpower to slow them down. Even the Creek fire which began a month later had insufficient resources to fight it because they were spread all over CA and the west.
I kind of understand why individual sellers on ebay or Amazon want feedback, as they get rated and it helps their businesses. Ironically, they don't generally nag. Airlines, rental car companies, CVS, and the like nag me to death.
--Interesting that Garros was not part of the Lafayette Escdrille, at least his name is not inscribed on their memorial in Saint-Quen sur Seine.--
In that link up top it says he was a member of Escadrille26 from 1914 until the end of the war with a 3 year sabbatical as a POW.
The Lafayette Escadrille was formed in 1916 and was apparently mostly composed of Americans, according to wiki.
For some time I have been meaning to bring this up. Many of you have an ad blocking program. I do not.
When I go to many smaller conservative sites, or even fairly well-known larger sites, the first ads that show on my screen are uniformly unpleasant with unpleasant photos for things like toenail fungus, ear wax, etc. ALWAYS those types of ads. Never anything pleasant, or simply just boring.
I have come to believe it is a subtle way to dissuade new readers. If one needed to SELL such a product, one could advertise it without making such gross photos. Therefore, I don't think selling those products is the reason for their appearance.
I would like someone with more tech savvy than I have to take a look at this and see is I am just being silly or if this is, indeed, psychological warfare.

A total and complete sign off from White House Doctors yesterday. That means I can’t get it (immune), and can’t give it. Very nice to know!!!
Good afternoon! We took a ride to Sarasota this morning and saw a small group of Biden supporters at an intersection holding "Honk for Biden" signs. I didn't hear any honks. When we came back, we saw a group of Trump supporters, waving Trump and thin blue line flags. When we got a closer, I noticed that a few of the people were wearing Trump masks! I happened to be talking to the daughter on the phone and when I burst out laughing, she asked why. Ha.
I'd be curious as to the origin of the term racket meaning a criminal scheme vs sports paddle. Maybe Jack knows, since his family was instrumental in the history of the sport.
Very nice pieces today. I am glad Clarice referenced that clip of Biden reading from the Quran. Imam Joe.
Rackets is the original spelling. Raquets spelled like that came along later.
Ball games using Rackets have been around for centuries but the popular racket (Tennis) devolved in 1874 for use in Major Wingfields new game "Lawn Tennis".
Of course there are many racket sports, such as tennis, table tennis, real tennis, squash, and badminton. All have their own designs of rackets or paddles in the case of table tennis.

Melinda:
Hope you are feeling better.
Much better day today! Taxes are done. Getting things done, but the best is this: Son quietly told me that youngest told him she thinks she will vote for Trump. She does not like him, but she thinks he hasn't done anything to hurt us, and the Dem are "scary," and she hates Harris. I'm not supposed to know! Shhhh
I have a really bad upper chest/lower throat infection and cold. Getting a low level fever. So, if you don’t see further participation then you know I am in bed.
all of a sudden I have started getting mail for my ex-husband. I opened one because it was from a Texas law firm and it was a debt collection notice for some traffic ticket in Boca Raton.
I am afraid that all of the rest of these things which appear to be serious mail are going to be attached to my credit, abysmal though it is.
What is the legal course of action? I know he didn't get my address from my attorney. I can't call her because he didn't pay her, either, although the court ordered him to.
Open them, call them and tell them you are divorced. And as a result of the divorce he is in charge of all those bills. Then give them his address.
I've never been a divorce lawyer but that is sure as hell what I would do. Or write on the envelope: "No such person at this address. Return to sender"
When we returned from our morning drive and drove into our community, we saw a young child driving a golf cart. We don't live in a golf community, but many people have golf carts. I said to hubby, "that isn't good." Then in the next minute I said, "OMG, I'm a Karen!" :)
Sorry you are feeling poorly jib. I read your tribute to your fil. So glad your wife was there.
Clarice--we have discovered in recent months that the Uke side of my husband's family also emigrated from Galicia. The area is now in poland near the ukraine and slovokian borders today. It was a chance remark by my 92 year old fil about his grandfather serving in the austro-hungarian army and having his discharge papers. That told me the slavic area his forebears emigrated from had to have been under hapsburg rule, which meant galicia, not russia or modern day ukraine.
There is a book called "The Idea of Galicia" that I finished last week that you would likely enjoy as well on what made that area so unique. I was interested in the Ruthenian aspects, but the information on the Jews and alarm over who emigrated to america vs who stayed is fascinating.
Back to mostly lurking as I am supposed to be limiting stairs until my right ankle calms down more. I can use hubby's laptop and just read from breakfast room.
That tweet MM posted at 12:00 is now censored as misinformation, even though it's based on Trump's doctor's claim, so Twitter is refuting Trump's doctor.
Thanks for the suggestion, rse. My grandfather was called to service in the Austro-Hungarian army. He was deferred twice because my grandma was pregnant with her first 2 sons. The third time she wasn't pregnant and they threw him in jail. My grandma smuggled in some womens clothing when she visited him, and walked out of there with him dressed as if he were a female companion. Outside she had a peasant with a hay wagon ready. He climbed in, they rode to the border and he immigrated her. (She and the boys followed after he was settled in.)
Well, here is what is going to happen on Twitter. On October 20 they are going to make it impossible to retweet without a comment. AND, they will be putting those comments "in context."
If you ask me, they are going to try to depress the vote. Facebook is increasing censorship, too. I am out of patience with Silicon Valley and their constant doing of the Communist Chinese/Democrats' bidding.
Thanks Miss M. It was just the first pic on TWIP. I managed to isolate the pic and the url, but each time I do that I lose all of my open tabs. It shouldn’t be this hard! And I don’t want to keep taking up blog time by trying again and again.
I avoid twitter when possible. I also just opted not to renew my free ben moore posts on facebook. I feel like the queen of boycotts! If I find a trace of leftist tyranny I can do without that site/product, etc.
Well, to offset Ig’s too obscure pun, here is what he came up with over in TWIP’s comments referring to the furniture store: Lying Shack of Sits for the Hilliary version.
I really was shocked that the critical race theory rot, although we need a new name for this witch's brew of intersectionality, has penetrated so deeply into the fabric of American culture that we even find it steaming in the military. I knew there was a powerful prog contingent at the Pentagon, but the military is the last place I'd expect to find the kind of pathological doublespeak that makes 1984 look sane. It's ironic, if it's not SOP, that the "White... majority in senior leadership positions" and Pentagon desk jobs are probably the very folks who have been pushing this path to putative enlightenment.
The President's executive order banning such training from government entities is a welcome and long overdue step, but it's going to take years to eradicate the poisonous tentacles that seem to defy purging.
While that's discouraging, at least it's finally coming to light, and it's a real pick-me-up to see ads like this one from Joe Collins. He's adapted the Kim Klacik ad to run against Maxine Waters. I think it's the most brilliant new template to hit political advertising in my lifetime. It showcases the opposition failures, while managing to be bright and upbeat about the future, and it feels really personal in a way that candidate messages rarely are.
I hope these courageous young candidates will stick with it, if they lose the first time around, because they've got an uphill climb. They are ultimately the change that we are waiting for. For all the anarchists rioting in the streets, it seems to me we also have an unprecedented number of minority activists downing red pills in public, and running for office.
I am also struck by how important Twitter is, despite its yuge downsides, to our basic situational awareness. It would be really great if there were a competitive alternative, but imagine what we wouldn't know without it, and without the folks who harvest messages for us here.
Thanks for all the help! I'm on my work lap top now so I will try from the ipad later.
The other reason I am so happy about my daughter is that once one begins to see bits of the truth, one can't stop seeing them going forward. The "red pill" thing. She's 19 and not stupid, so it's a great relief. Now I just need to keep my mouth shut.
Dan Bongino recommends a group (which he has an interest in and is very up front about) called Parler. No censorship. I belong to it but I lost my password and find it difficult to use. I will have to get busy and find it.
He also uses Rumble instead of You Tube, which has become increasingly anti-conservative.
I am on Twitter for 2 reasons: One is because President Trump and the White House ave accounts, and he uses it to make comments and post announcements.
The second is because I cannot get onto JOM without using my Twitter account. I would be locked out like Mary Rose's account is. I can't even READ, as I get a "404 Forbidden" message when I type in the web address.
Miss M - we all blow are stacks from time to time. No worries. This has been the most stressful year to say the least!
You sound like me - getting something as basic as laundry done is simply amazing!! I feel like I have adhd these days - very hard to focus on one task. (And yes I am on my "work" lap top) FOCUS
If you follow Miss Marple's instructions, here is what you should be pasting (hoping this works). I will put the actual URL of the photo in bold, just so you can see where it is. There is only one space (between img and src) in the string, and no line breaks despite the way TypePad divides it up in the comment.
I've looked at a couple alternatives to Twitter, and remember thinking they were pretty clunky and awkward to use. Since I don't do any tweeting myself, though, I don't have any effect on the trends. I'm not sure what it will take for people to move elsewhere; until some sort of critical mass forms, I think we may have to rely on taking away Twitter's tax status as a platform, not a publisher. Or something, as long as it doesn't take the route of "fairness" monitoring.
Just type a period on a line above or below the string. I you just paste something in without typing anything, TypePad won't accept. I think it's a way of eliminating bots or something.
In your post at 2:53 looks like you left out < at the beginning and didn't put a space between img and src.
Just keep plugging away at it, and make a copy of each time try, so that you'll have a record of which one finally worked.
It's not as if you're interrupting some world historical discussion here today, and even if you were, you are not the only one who has had to try multiple times before getting it right. I can assure you of that!!
Unfortunately I can't see what your #2 step is. I expect it's something like the same system I use. I keep a template handy, so that I can just paste the URL into a ready-made string. If you select the bold URL in either of the following, you can replace it by pasting in the photo's URL or, as I've just learned from you, by dragging the photo onto it.
This would be an unsized photo:
<img src="URL">
And this would be a photo sized to your 360x360 dimensions.
If you want your opening and closing tags to show up (instead of being read as instruction marks) use the following instead, but without any spaces between characters:
Tennis is so systemically racist it should be prosecuted under the RICO statute.
[there's a terrible pun embedded in that sentence. anyone see it?]

But Narciso’s post of the car parade is great!

Well, to offset Ig’s too obscure pun, here is what he came up with over in TWIP’s comments referring to the furniture store: Lying Shack of Sits for the Hilliary version.

ccgirl,
Here is what I typed:
< img src="
(Leave out the first space between the bracket and the i.)
Then I copied the address and pasted it right after the quote marks, BUT I erased everything after the second to the last equals sign.:
https://i1.wp.com/www.powerlineblog.com/ed-assets/2020/10/IMG_3377.jpeg?w=
Then I typed in 360x360"> After that equals sign with no spaces between the equals sign and the numbers.
I hope this makes sense and helps.

clarice:
Many thanks!

Well. I am happy to say I got another load of laundry in.
Posted by: MissMarple2 | October 11, 2020 at 02:14 PM
Thanks for all the help! I'm on my work lap top now so I will try from the ipad later.
The other reason I am so happy about my daughter is that once one begins to see bits of the truth, one can't stop seeing them going forward. The "red pill" thing. She's 19 and not stupid, so it's a great relief. Now I just need to keep my mouth shut.

JN Hanes,
Dan Bongino recommends a group (which he has an interest in and is very up front about) called Parler.

Posted by: JM Hanes | October 11, 2020 at 03:03 PM
That looks a little to complicated, JMH.
Here’s what I do:
1. Move the photo to your desktop
2. In the comment box you want to post you enter
3. Bring the phot over and insert between the quotes marks close them up and hit return.
4. At least it works for me

Posted by: JM Hanes | October 11, 2020 at 03:09 PM
I'll try again later. I really need to get this work done!
Posted by: CCGirl | October 11, 2020 at 03:09 PM
How about that and won’t accept my model’s html script:
< first, then a paren followed by another paren the another >
You cut the photo off your desktop and paste it between parents, close them and voila hit return. It should post.
Posted by: Jack Lillywhite | October 11, 2020 at 03:10 PM
Sorry but after first paren you insert qouetation marks one after another then another one of these >

Miss Marple:
Unfortunately I can't see what your #2 step is. I expect it's something like the same system I use. I keep a template handy, so that I can just paste the URL into a ready-made string. If you select the bold URL in either of the following, you can replace it by pasting in the photo's URL or, as I've just learned from you, by dragging the photo onto it.
This would be an unsized photo:
<img src="URL">
And this would be a photo sized to your 360x360 dimensions.
<img src="URLw=360x360">
