Re Judge Barrett's confirmation hearings: Whether or not one is a lawyer, one would need to be mentally impaired not to understand that Judge Barrett has the intellectual capacity and ethical temperament to serve as a SCOTUS judge. I would note, however, that the Senate Dems attempting to check as a political matter the nomination is not an inappropriate use of the advise and consent power. Judges shouldn't play politics when they judge, but Senators are not falling short of their duty when they partcipate in the advise and consent function. I agree with Professor Monaghan in his Columbia Law Review article. See below link.

Part and parcel of Monaghan's argument is that it is fine for the GOP Senators to push this through before November 3rd.

Thanks for all the kind thoughts. OL, the My Pillow comment was great! I talked to a few of my regulars about what happened, and my driving nightmare. This crazy regular, but very kind customer, makes me sit in the middle of the fastener section on a wooden ladder. She then starts using a tuning fork on me, to balance me with the earth or something! It was the most bizarre thing ever. She told me to call her whenever I need tuning. Jeepers. I guess she got my brother the other day. Can’t make this stuff up.

From the video, it's not as bad as it sounds. Hirono asserts that she asks the same questions of every judicial nominee. It's obviously intended to catch someone lying to Congress, if anything can be dug up in time, but it wasn't formulated as an accusation. ACB answered no, and Hirono moved on.

John Roberts had all kind of impressive responses to questions at his nomination hearings, so I'm not sure more how much more expansive answers would tell us. After listening to all these Senators drone on and on (including Republicans) a bit of quick pablum may be the response they deserve, when someone gets around to actually asking a question. It's certainly the safest path to take.

It is so matter of fact and is so full of evidence and details that you can recommend it to a Democrat. If they can read then there's a real chance they'll start to understand the extent of media bias.
