Good morning JOM!

Robin, eff 'em all

Willowed:

And OL, I can't decide if I want to reserve a table on the ledge or not. My rational side says yes, but my hopeful optimistic side (the one that listened to the teen tell me that they just thwarted the safety rules at school this week and went outside for lunch and study halls despite the rules dictating otherwise) thinks that it'll be fine. Maybe you'll allow the latecomers a seat on the floor with our legs dangling over the edge? Or washing dishes?

Old Lurker

Robin, we even promised MM a right to join us in the end, but warned her she would have to climb our "late arrival rope ladde"r since the drawbridge will be long gone before her light bulb goes on.

cathyf

Gee, Robin, here going outside for “mask breaks” IS a school “safety rule”

(They are obviously just making shit up...)

Jack Lillywhite

So, 2 teams in the same Eastern Time zone, had to travel 2,800 miles west to play for a place in the ALCS?

Makes sense to me.

Go Rays!

Old Lurker

Jack, I trust Mrs. JiB is doing OK?

Narciso

Yes that makes no sense.

sbwaters

Damn Yankees!

Forget it, Jake. It’s 2020.

Narciso

They might need the ghosf of steinbrenner.

Narciso

Robin, eff 'em all

Cathyf, the high schoolers are supposed to go to their 3rd period class and eat lunch there, but the teachers don't want them in their rooms with their masks off, so many (most?) of the students decided to beg forgiveness and went straight outside to congregate and eat lunch.

The rule was that there are only supposed to be two people at an outdoor table, but if kids bring a chair from the cafeteria outside, they can join the group at the table. My daughter was like, whatever - we're spaced the same whether at the table or in the chairs. This was delivered with a massive eye roll. The teens are not all the sheep that we expected, and I'm glad.

hrtshpdbox

French Open women's final, ten times better than baseball, these days.

Old Lurker

Robin, I was reflecting as were you just why smart sciency-type people are as bat shit crazy as the rest.

I concluded that it stems from the shift over many years of science being driven and funded by "real people using their own money" to the condition today where so many of them are funded by free money from the sky sprinkled on them by middle men collecting their own free money from the sky.

More people need to starve in this country for us to get back on track.

(That last was for Beasts).

Narciso

So this 'coen bros militia' is really something.

Robin, eff 'em all

Gah, I hate rope ladders, I'll make sure to arrive before you burn the bridges.

Speaking of, I'm working on a story about the Mona Lisa traveling around free France during WW2 which has been rather fascinating research-wise. The head of the Musee Nationaux was a brilliant logistical planner and strategist when negotiating with the Nazis over the museum's holdings, which he scattered all over France to keep out of their hands.

Narciso

Did they pull it out of the frame ans put it in those cylinders.

Robin, eff 'em all

OL, that "free money" has created a network of savvy operators who know how to write a grant to obtain a windfall. Plenty of the scientists I know actually work on that side of science and understand the value of the narrative. They make good money too.

If you saw my link about Ithaca College laying off over a hundred tenured professors and closing/merging department, you'll see that starvation for some is upon us. ;-)

We'll see what that brings.

Robin, eff 'em all

So this 'coen bros militia' is really something.

I love this name for them so much!

Narciso

It occurred to me just now,

MissMarple2

OL

I think the insanity has to do with the media. I have noticed that I get Apple news blurbs on my phone which I never requested, and they seem to not be very favorable to the GOP.

Thanks for the acceptance of me as a late entrant via rope ladder. Ha! You will be safe from my annoying cheerfulness.

I intend to point out the crashing economy and crummy conditions to every democrat I know, and point out how the news media LIED to them at every opportunity.

Jane

OL,

As you know, I’m already up here on the ledge (gorgeous view). Not to be rude but when is breakfast being served?

BeastsEngland

Good morning, OL!! :)

~ ~ ~

I have a first date this evening because I thought the Alabama game was at 2:30. Now I see that it’s a 6:30 game. Ugh. If I use the Covid excuse then she won’t want to reschedule for a few more weeks, minimum, so I need a perfect one-week excuse. How long does Ebola last?

clarice

Late dinner, Beasts or early lunch--her choice.

Narciso

Come on man, blow off a date, its like we dont know you anymore

Jack Lillywhite

Beasts,

Get one of those body-wire rigs with the false eye that can project the game for you on the date. You know, the one they fitted Biden with👨‍🦯

Robin, eff 'em all

Beasts, you have a cough and are getting tested Monday?

My daughter told the volleyball coach (they are doing this bizarre pre-season practice/non practice thing) that her parents didn't want her in the close quarters of the weight room so she could only do the court practices. I was like, what???? But she hates lifting weights and decided that COVID was an excuse that the coach couldn't argue with.

White lies in the time of COVID.

Narciso

Yes they are certifiable

The GOP establishment has still not figured out that President Trump is the most popular Republican politician in modern history.

He’s also the central figure in America’s culture war.

They still don’t get it.

Au contraire, the entire establishment has figured out that Trump is their mortal enemy & will pull out every stop to keep their seats at the trough. Never forget, an army of bureaucrat millionaires has been built on the backs of the tax paying working class.

Good morning. I will try to be productive today and keep my mind off of the election, etc. It’s very wearing - this anxiety that I carry around everyday. I agree with Robin’s take, but I also agree with OL’s post about “waiting to find out if the tumor is benign or not,” or something along those lines. Despite the constant anxiety I can only be hopeful about Trump winning.

No wonder I am drinking like a fish these days! I find it hard to focus on my hobbies that normally take my mind away from politics. Thank God I have the store to keep me busy most days.

Do I sound crazy? Maybe, but I am not as nuts as those peeps who can’t see what’s really going on. Time to look at TWIPs for a few laughs

Ot who thought it was a good idea to have mark hamill and patrick stewart in the uber eats ad, that just looks pitiful.

GUS

Yeah, it was the shape of the WALL. What a sore loser.

Jack Lillywhite

OL,

The Mrs. is fine. This was not unexpected. Now working the logistics during a pandemic to get Frederick from Cardiff to Brussels and on to Brasschaat for the internment and then back. Tricky stuff in the age of masks and social separation.

I’ll bet Xi is having a hoot over this. In his wildest dreams he never thought it would work so well.

JM Hanes

Beasts:

Suggest watching the game together, with take-out from the best restaurant in town. I expect her response would be revealing. No, wait. I expect you'd learn a lot from her reaction.

JM Hanes

After OL burns the bridge, I'll be on the other side in the real resistance. No need to thank me.

James D.

Hey, TM:

Do you agree that Boone should be fired for the appallingly stupid game 2 pitching debacle, and maybe Cashman, too, for his inability to have a second playoff-caliber starting pitcher despite the highest payroll in the league?

clarice

I keep getting knocked off JOM and having to sign in. Is it something I said?

Narciso

Its happened a few times yesterday.

BeastsEngland

Perhaps my sarcasm was a bit too dry - I’m definitely keeping the date. If it were the LSU game then maybe I’d roll the dice on Ebola, but we should be fine without my help this evening. :)

JM Hanes

More likely everything you've said, clarice.

Ignatz Ratzkiwatzki

--I have a first date this evening because I thought the Alabama game was at 2:30. Now I see that it’s a 6:30 game.--

Wait, you're willing to date a girl who isn't a Tide fanatic?
Nothing makes sense anymore...

JM Hanes

I don't know about you, Beasts, but if I ever have to weasel out of something, I'm asking Robin to come up with my excuse.

MissMarple2

clarice,

I figure that it's probably harassment of this site from the tech establishment aligned with the dems.

It happens to me at least a couple of times per day.

Ignatz Ratzkiwatzki

Willowed;
--Closer I got to the city, the more Biden signs I saw. More significant was the number of shuttered businesses, including a favorite Chinese restaurant.

That one nearly brought a tear to my eye.

The Dems messaging that this is all Trump’s fault is working in the blue hellholes. Trump’s counter message that he shut down flights from China is too little, too late.
If we don’t have exceptional turnout, I think he is toast.--

I'm not used to such questionable reasoning from you, Buckeye.
Of course there are more Biden signs as you get closer to blue hells; it is ever thus. So how is that a metric for how well Dem messaging is working?
For all we know those shuttered businesses are essentially pro Trump signs, because business owners know it was their governor and mayor who shut them down, not Trump, as do not a small number of their customers.
It's Trump daily yelling "open up" and progs yelling "shut it down".
Is Nate Silver sockpuppeting you?
Now Trump might still lose, but I don't think what you saw and what you extrapolated from it, informs us whether he will or not.

I imagine it would, yes.

CCGirl

That was great, Jimsv! I love that H says we need new people in Washington. Ah, H aren’t you part of the group that never leaves public office?

Plus he’s gross. Is he the one who took him aged mother to an x rated movie? The fact that that’s even a question is indicative of how messed up everything is these days!

CCGirl

His. Not him. And maybe he would be “new” in Washington. But he’s not new to public office (just to clarify).

Old Lurker

JMH "After OL burns the bridge, I'll be on the other side in the real resistance. No need to thank me."

You can send us postcards from the Gulag. If you can write in Russian, you could do a book. But you have to not copy others who wrote before you with advice not heeded.

Melinda

The camps are being built in Canada, right now.

CCGirl

Not helping my level of anxiety 😳. I’m outa here.

Robin, eff 'em all

I don't know about you, Beasts, but if I ever have to weasel out of something, I'm asking Robin to come up with my excuse.

That really doesn't reflect well on me. I'm an introvert and been making excuses for years, though when I hit 50 I stopped that and usually own up to being too tired. For zoom meetups I don't even do that - I just say that I hate them and am always willing to meet in person.

Also, I might get caught on the wrong side of the bridge and if so I'll go down swinging too. Crutches can really catch people off guard.

Good luck with your date, Beasts.

Robin, eff 'em all

My English shepherd let me get half of him groomed before he took off for the other side of the yard, where he promptly lay down and stared at me as I tried to coax him back.

Crutches are a massive PITA when the dog is being disagreeable.

MissMarple2

Robin,

That is why I always took my English shepherd, Maggie, to the professional groomer. At least she didn't blame me!

Boy, do I miss her.

I may be too late, Beasts, but my suggestion would be to have dinner at a bar with the game on. Then you can use that Woody Allen line: "You're so beautiful I can hardly keep my eye on the television." (Woody said it in a taxi, with "meter" instead of "television," but same idea.)

JM Hanes

"You can send us postcards from the Gulag."

Why would I be trying to send postcards to the Ledge people? No glasses are rosy enough to picture any help coming from that quarter. Believing you'll be safe once you've pulled up the bridge, of course, is the ultimate fairy tale.

"But you have to not copy others who wrote before you with advice not heeded."

You don't seriously think you'll be dictating the rulz of engagement from inside your motte & bailey, do you?

Stephanie Nene Not Your Normal Granma

You can't argue against irrational fears

OMG tell me about it. I called our son this morning to see if they got the Bday presents for Grace. They aren't having a party because of Covid - even with family. Yes we got them. Great, I will send Paige's in the next week or so.

Me: What are y'all planning for Thanksgiving?

Him: Mom, you know we won't go out as long as Covid is going on. Didn't you see that 'your boy Trump' got the virus? Hahahaha.

Me: Is he dead? NO. It's a freaking coronavirus AKA flu. 99.7% of people recover. We now have a lot of therapies that we didn't know about back in March and there is going to be a vaccine soon. It isn't 'dangerous.' I had it and I'm still here.

Him: Yeah, but you can get it again.

Me: Ummm nope. Very very rare. If you could get it again, why bother with a vaccine? It would be pointless. The vaccine is intended to safely introduce it to you so you can build up the anti bodies necessary to fight it if you are exposed to it. You do understand what antibodies are right?

Him: Yes I know what antibodies are and you are wrong. Click.

I give up. They are going to end up with two very mentally damaged kids and will never figure out why. Millenials are fucking idiots.

Robin, eff 'em all

I bet you do, MM. These dogs sure do become our kids. When school started back up, Jasper moved back into the teen's room. I think he sensed her stress levels rising again.

GUS

Yes my "MAN" Trump go it and one week later he is vibrant strong and active. Why are you scared??
I didn't think that I raised a pathetic pussy.

MissMarple2

Stephanie,

I got the nicest text on my phone from my grandson, the one who graduated with a business degree from IU. He sent me a photo from Kohl's where they already have their Christmastown stuff out and he said it reminded him of my Christmas Eve celebrations, one of his favorite childhood memories.

It is so nice when they remember and thank you. He said when things died down at his work he will come take me to lunch. I told him I hoped that this corona thing died down soon, because I thought people were getting overly paranoid about it.

Then I texted "Grandma ain't askeerd." He thought that was funny, and he agreed, too.

Thank goodness, he's not gone off the deep end!

Old Lurker

Lyle "So are many of the parents of millennials..."

Many of the parents are idiots in their own rights for sure. But many of us Boomer parents made the very stupid assumption that our kids would be educated pretty much the same way we were by the same institutions so we went about living our lives not realizing that the 60's radicals we laughed at in college had stayed behind to rot all of the institutions WE took for granted, and to plant that rot in the remaining brains of our children.

lyle

As I wrote last night about that 1948 movie, OL: mission accomplished, comrades.

MissMarple2

OL,

I earned a nice part-time income for a while as a substitute teacher, which you could do in Indiana if you had a college degree of any sort and no criminal record.

It paid me about $30/day back in the 80's when my daughter was in pre-school and then elementary school, and I also was able to spy on the staff and see how classes were operating.

That's why I was able to call BS on certain high school history and government teachers.

clarice

Jim, Love that--just love that. I wish more candidates would do that.

Jane

Lyle,

I read your post to say: “so many of our parents are millionaires”.

I’m not sure of the exact first instance of “uniparty” entering the JOM arena. When I made my debut in 2009 one of the first skirmishes I instigated revolved around the GOP/Dem non-binding Senate Resolution 511 where the DC collective only cared about McCain’s eligibility issues. Within that early portion of the multi-year Birther Wars, I was adamant that there was one party rule in DC. JOM masterminds requested that I be banned...

3 years later the expose on the RNC/DNC Consent Decree should have have clinched a he existence of The Uniparty. I was again asked told to leave the forum.

Good times!

mockmook,

Thanks! I forgot to look again this morning, and I think that was a good interview.

Stephanie Nene Not Your Normal Granma

Could be, but that also looks like a typical OCR error to me.

Maybe, but it happens frequently enough and coincidentally only happens to the names and other typically used keywords to find the documents needed on FOIA requests. An OCR error would not always happen on key search words almost exclusively. I process pdfs all day with several different pdf tools (Adobe, Blubeam, Abbyy) and OCR errors in processing happen randomly and will fark with the same words sometimes and not sometimes on the same page... not every time for the same word on the same page. Plus, the government has the SOURCE document for comparison and errors are easily correctable for proper documentation - IF your intention is to properly document. A dubious assumption for government work.

THIS^^^ particularly since my husband WAS a teacher and that used to be how he and other teachers we knew taught. His school was one of the last to succumb to the BS going on. He got out when it did. He was appalled at both the teachers that were hired and the new BS coming out of the district office.

Robin, I use the dog leash wrapped around the bbq to hold my hounds in place when I groom them. It's sort of hard for them to pull the bbq. But they just love being dried off. It's sort of a monster petting kinda feeling, I guess.

Here in the People's Republic of California we only get ads from ballot initiatives, really. Mainly union sponsored.
