Willowed:

I still think the Bobulinsky stuff may be a red herring, as apparently it didn't pan out and was largely after Slow Joe left office, whereas the Burisma hanky-panky was when he was VP and looks more like blatant bribery and pay-for-play. Apparently Strassel has even gotten some push-back from the f-in WSJ. Let's explore Joe's take from Burisma.

I'll add: I'm happy to be convinced otherwise. henry points out it started before Joe left office, and shows a pattern. Right now it's allowed Biden's defenders to push back and say "Nothing happened." I hope it does put the focus on Burisma, but at the moment it seems to have had the opposite effect.

If by "didn't pan out" you mean the firm Bobulinsky was CEO of didn't become the Biden's private piggy bank because they are such underhanded crooks they backdoored that firm and got several million directly from the Chinese communists then I concur.

Bobulinsky will be filleted by the press as vindictive and out for revenge for getting cut out of the business Hunter Biden was trying to assemble.

I don't doubt that, and haven't read everything carefully, but has that been established? And if it was while Joe was a private citizen then it can't be claimed he was paid for access or influence. Again, the Burisma thing seems much worse for him.

The point is that politicians enriching themselves after they leave office is SOP, and not illegal. It may look bad, and I'm not defending the Bidens, but the focus should remain on what he did while in office.

peter

In office or out of office, he can't square the truth with his blanket statement that he never received any money from foreign governments. Biden lied to the American people during both debates.

Old Lurker

Generally agree with that, Jimmy, especially because what they did while in office is so compelling, easy to understand, and defenseless.

But just FTR:

But don't forget how much Hillary made while out of office but running for POTUS, basically selling Future Access to hedgers.

Ditto Bidens.

Also, his running probably was to make him too hot to prosecute in his mind.

So even the out of office crap is bad in his case.

The Infamous Ignatz

The metaphor that the media can cover, and presumably suffocate, stories like a pillow seems to me inapt.
They cover things more like a mask, and not a very good one. They may reduce a direct shot of information virus from reaching those people who use the mainstream media as their only source of info. But like a mask, some still gets through and what doesn't just goes around.

The True Believers who rely on the MSM for their info are impervious to the virus of information already anyway, that's why they watch it. It's not so much that a lying MSM makes sober citizens into ignorant dopes. It's that already ignorant dopes gravitate to their ignorant dope soulmates glowing and cooing at them on their little confirmatory screens.

There is some of that on both sides of course, but study after study demonstrates conservatives and conservatarians are more open and tolerant and knowledgeable about differing viewpoints and I surely don't need to explore the difference in reason and rationality between political ideologies and philosophies again.

So that truth that prog culture tries to smother, instead is aerosolized and is inhaled by those who have not joined the Hive. And the obvious fact that the Hive's Minitru actively tries to smother that truth is confirmation the Hive is real and malevolent to those who haven't joined.
Hence the media's sky high approval ratings.

--The point is that politicians enriching themselves after they leave office is SOP, and not illegal. It may look bad, and I'm not defending the Bidens, but the focus should remain on what he did while in office.--

I believe it is illegal to knowingly take money from what you privately admit to knowing are intelligence operatives of a foreign enemy to influence American politics and provide access to those in office whether you are in public office or out.
Since they admit that access and influence is the whole point of the venture it is also illegal to conceal that you are acting as the agent of a foreign power.

Moreover had say, Herbert Hoover have been found to be secretly taking money from the Nazi's during the 30s to influence American politics it would most certainly have been a huge and disqualifying story even though he was no longer in office.
In this case it is much worse because it concerns an effort that started while Biden was in office and the influence of those payments continue to hang over his head as he seeks to gain even higher office.

Playing this off as distasteful but minor is so wrong I can't even make sense of it.
In fact since Joe himself and the left seem to consider the whole topic radioactive, to the point they lie through their teeth about it, I'd say the idea it's a distasteful but minor issue doesn't make much sense to them either, but I'm sure they'll concur if that is the line being taken by Biden's critics.

Article in my local paper says that vandalism at a local conservation area includes “Trump 2020 bring back the KKK, 10,000 supporters on CC,” swastikas, and the like spray painted on trees. Me thinks the nut jobs are going a bit too far. Faking racism is one thing, faking it by messing with conservation land is another. As if any Trump supporter acts that way! The article didn’t blame the mess on anyone. I’m thinking prog college aged kids maybe? Probably the one who screamed obscenities at my house last week.

In Defiance Of Senate Democrats, FBI asks to interview Hunter Biden ex-associate Bobulinski, Senate committee says

jimmyk

Playing this off as distasteful but minor is so wrong I can't even make sense of it.

To reiterate, I'm not characterizing it as such, and I suspect a full investigation would confirm all sorts of violations. But there's only 11 days till the election, so the sound bites are going to dictate the impact. It seems to me the Biden defenders are able to obfuscate and push back on the Bobulinski stuff and the heat has been taken off them on Burisma. But maybe that's just my feverish imagination.

I do however agree with this;
But there's only 11 days till the election, so the sound bites are going to dictate the impact.

And soundbites that combine "Hunter and Joe were dirty in Ukraine and were dirty in China and they're still dirty and lying about both" seem to me the ideal simple soundbites that demonstrate an easily understood pattern of corruption that will be installed in the White House if people vote for him.

Ccgirl,

Re; your conversation last night about bashing gays. It bothered me for a long time because my Biz partner, (and best friend ) is gay. As time went on I realize certain people will say anything they think will hurt, about someone they don’t respect. E.g. “she’s a fat dumb ignorant Democrat lesbian”.

It bugged me. Than I realized I’d say just about anything about Hillary, so I am not without fault. I do admit using “Gay” as a slur offends me. I’m pretty sure gay people are used to it.

Iggy, I don't see the contradiction. My statement (SOP, not illegal) is correct. lyle

Okay, before I go: love that link, jimmyk, but something doesn’t add up. Why in the world did the restaurant decant a cheap pinot noir? 😬

The Infamous Ignatz

The virtue of the Chinese deal is we have walking talking witnesses along with considerably more backstopping, written evidence.
In some ways the progs have defused the Ukraine deal, which is a more blatant abuse of power because he used US money to squelch an investigation of his son [and therefore him] by muddying the waters around Shokin and other details.

That's why I think their timing of this is right on the money. It keeps building with new stuff that knocks them off stride and they'll have no time to create a plausible muddying of these crystal clear waters of crookedness.

jimmyk

I was wondering about that too. Fancy place, I suppose they decant everything just for show.

lyle

This stretches the imagination as well:

The key thing is that the customers (in particular, the ones that had ordered the $2000 bottle and got the $18 wine) didn't notice.

Found this really cool article tracing out a mechanism for how MS develops: https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2020/10/201022112554.htm

About half of the people with multiple sclerosis have the HLA-DR15 gene variant. A study has now shown how this genetic predisposition contributes to the development of the autoimmune disease multiple sclerosis in combination with environmental factors. The decisive factor is the shaping of a repertoire of immune cells which - although they are effective in fighting off pathogens such as Epstein-Barr virus - also attack brain tissue.

I wonder if an Epstein-Barr vaccine might actually trigger MS?

Porchlight

The point is that politicians enriching themselves after they leave office is SOP, and not illegal. It may look bad, and I'm not defending the Bidens, but the focus should remain on what he did while in office.

As with Hillary, this stuff going on in 2017 was Joe trading on his potential future position as POTUS as well as his current influence (which doesn't go away just because he's not in office at the moment).

Porchlight

And the influence peddling did not begin in January 2017 so it's just a matter of time until more comes out (on Burisma and the rest).

Porchlight

Why in the world did the restaurant decant a cheap pinot noir?

If they don't automatically decant all their wines, maybe they do it on request. Saves the server the trouble of doing it at the table.

Actually it could be a rona thing if it's perceived that opening the wine at the table takes too long at close quarters.

"It is not what the witness actually said, but what the agents' bosses' bosses edits of the 302's say he said."

Jane, I think I echo what you are saying. As a conservative I am used to being called a “racist.” I don’t like it, but I figure those who are calling me that are hypocrites, and probably have signs and flags that read, “kindness is everything.” So maybe you are saying that your gay friends are used to it in the same way.

All I was saying is that calling AC a “gay douche” is different than calling him a “douche.” When we use terms in a way that brings up race or sexual “preference” (that word!) to attack or judge then we are giving ammo to the left. Yes, the right is held to a different standard, and even so, I prefer we take the high road.

Having said that I think Biden is a senile corrupt criminal. And his running mate is a terrible person who slept her way to the top. Neither have done much positive for the country, and Trump should hit them with everything he has.

I am not a prude, and I enjoy reading some of the more colorful descriptions posted here. Usually I just scroll on by if I don’t care for a post. the FBI rewrite of "It is not who votes, but who counts the votes"

Remember, Ds requested 800K more absentee ballots than Rs did in FL.

According to FL law, if you don't submit your absentee ballot in time, you CAN vote in person but only IF you surrender your absentee ballot at the polls. If you don't surrender it, you can only vote provisionally.

So those 800K D voters have to show up one way or another to offset the giant R wave on Election Day.

And if you're a Dem who sat on your ballot for a month when you could have easily mailed it in, are you really going to grab it and go wait in line with a bunch of Republicans on Election Day? Especially if you're a Dem who's already afraid of the virus?

Add to this Trump's scheduled rallies in FL between now and then and the Dem fraidycats' fear of superspreader events and their attendees. :)
