ACB in! The vote was 52-48, with all Democrats a "No, Bite Me". IIRC (and I just looked it up yesterday) Gorsuch got three Dem votes (Manchin, Heidi Unspellable and Sen. Forgettable); Kavanaugh got a Yes from Manchin.
Susan Collins voted No in a desperate bid to save her seat in two weeks, so yes, Republicans overcame bipartisan opposition.
So the “Handmaiden “ costumes will be at the Supreme Court doors again? Court jesters. Too funny especially since they don’t get the joke.

Susan Collins voting NO is why she is losing “her” seat. Why bother voting for someone that doesn’t have your back?

Yeah, I don't get Collins's vote. Last ditch effort to woo the libs I guess.

These were not just idle words. According to NPR, “Treisman bought the AR-15 rifle in New Hampshire and then traveled to a Wendy’s restaurant within 4 miles of Biden’s home in Delaware, federal agents say.

I can't find a transcript, but in her remarks last night ACB stated that, unlike for judges, it would be a dereliction of duty for senators NOT to follow their personal preferences rather than the law and constitution.
Did anyone else find that jarring?

Re. PA. and the swing states. The Dems were surprised in 2016. They didn't get out the vote, and Hillary didn't campaign where she should have.
They shouldn't be surprised in 2020. It will take a lot to overcome the over 100% voting in Philadelphia. I doubt whether the counters will count the Black vote for Trump, and if they do, they will not include them in the final tally.
With Holder running lawfare for left wing groups, the Left will disrupt the counting.

Good morning, JOM! One week to go and I'm feeling very positive. ACB is a very big win!
When the sky is bright canary yellow
I forget ev'ry cloud I've ever seen
So they called me a cockeyed optimist
Immature and incurably green
I have heard people rant and rave and bellow
That we're done and we might as well be dead
But I'm only a cockeyed optimist
And I can't get it into my head
I hear the human race
Is fallin' on its face
And hasn't very far to go
But ev'ry whip-poor-will
Is sellin' me a bill
And tellin' me it just ain't so
I could say life is just a bowl of Jello
And appear more intelligent and smart
But I'm stuck like a dope
With a thing called hope
And I can't get it out of my heart
Not this heart

Porch, yes, I was thinking of our shared tastes when I posted that about Copland. You know, if you are around in Austin in about mid-March, I'll be there for about a week (my son and DIL are having their first child). In fact, do you know of any UT-Austin special collections which feature Kipling, Carroll, or children's literature? That would give me an excuse to use a university voucher for the airfare. At any rate, I'd love to get together with you!

Remember Obama's 2008 statement:
“We cannot continue to rely on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we’ve set. We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded.”*
BLM and Antifa may not be as well funded as the military, but they have been the recipient of tens of millions in Corporate donations and probably the same amounts of Federal funds as pass through from non-profits receiving Federal grants.

I was saying that my local lefty friends were engaged in social distancing GOTV activities, like sending postcards, and read this from the Horde:
The other interesting mail that my kids are receiving are hand written postcards and letters that tell them that whether or not they vote is public record. Their vote is secret they are reminded, but "they" will know if they voted or not. My son has received two such letters. This is his first election, and he is disgusted. Gen Z does not appreciate being reminded to vote on their social media. (or so I have been told) And the only reason he knows that he is getting mail is because I tell him. Gen Z young adults only check the mail when they know they have a package coming.
Our 24 year old told me that he's not voting this year (disgusted with the whole thing - I'm appalled) and that I could have asked him to request a mail in ballot and filled it in myself. Damn.

Yesterday I was sitting in my car while Mrs. OL went into a store. I always make note of retail signs so I can steal ideas.
I kept staring at the Barbershop signs and something just "looked wrong" to me. It was the tradition barber pole beside the door. Thien I figured out that they had installed the rotating sleeve upside down to that the eye saw it at rising rather than falling. Since that sign originated to symbolize blood running down an arm after intentional bleeding (which was often done by barbers back in the day), I almost went in to tell the barber that his sign was upside down.

I wasn't bothered by ACB's statement about legislators following their preferences. Partly it was a rhetorical flourish to contrast judges with legislators. Also I think she emphasized the fact that legislators are elected and accountable to their constituents, whereas federal judges are not, so she blurred the distinction between legislators following their own preferences or those of their constituents.

Hello, hello, JOM friends! Hi Dad! 1 week to go and I am lurking for mental health.
OL's comment on the previous thread.. "someone is going to be very surprised and I hope it's not us" sums up my feelings (the apple and the tree and all that). They seem like they've either given up or know it's in the bag.. nothing in between. What gives? Why is Biden going to GA? Is he just messing with us? Are the polls and their behavior (like they are about to win in a landslide, despite all other indicators suggesting a red wave) just a way to be able to say "see, this isn't a surprise" if their voter fraud efforts wind up carrying the day for them?
I watched Trump's Allentown rally yesterday. I wonder if he, characteristically, has picked up on Americans' fatigue with the state governments' overbearing approach to COVID. On the one hand you have CA micromanaging how we serve our food in (outside of) our own homes, 8 months into this thing. (I know they think we are dumb, but come on.) On the other hand, many people are thinking.. ok.. my lyin' eyes are telling me COVID is a risk, yes, a bigger risk for some than others, I should modify my behavior in this manner, but I'm not willing to in these other manners.. I can decide. I have some very liberal friends who are absolutely fed up with the stranglehold on their kids' educations or being told to wear a mask when they are walking alone outdoors. A lib friend of mine (I have sooo many of them) told me the other day they wish we'd just tell everyone we have a vaccine and administer everyone a placebo so we can all just move on. ha! I think Trump is saying, let's move past being singularly obsessed with not catching this virus. In fact, Mark Meadows said just that (we can't control the virus, we instead will try to control vaccine/therapeutic development), and Biden released a statement along the lines of "this was not a slip by the Trump administration - they really and truly think we shouldn't try to control the virus." When I heard that, I thought it was the WH doubling down!! I didn't realize it was a Biden statement painting the sentiment in a negative light! Because.. I agree completely! HUGE disconnect in mindsets. Trump is a master at picking up on what regular Americans are actually thinking, and I hope that's the case here again.
I just saw a clip of Biden swearing he won't end fracking, from behind a podium in an empty parking lot somewhere in the rust belt. I'm pretty sure he's reading notes off of the inside of a mask that he's holding!!!
I feel like I'm taking crazy pills!
