The Hunter Biden thing won't change minds but here we go: a cybersecurity pro says the metadata confirms the authenticity of the emails.
The gist is that Gmail uses a "DKIM" protocol to authenticate emails and the Hunter email matches the e-signature of the sender. So the key email really is from Burisma.
However, my impression is that if someone hacked into, or otherwise gained access to the Burisma system, they could send out signed emails. Who among us has not had their email hacked, to the annoyance of everyone on our contact list?
Shenanigans in the Ukraine seem to be a theme to this story, so who knows?
From Wikipedia on DKIM:
As to the Hunter Biden thing changing minds, who ya gonna believe, me and Lyin' Ted Cruz, or our President?
Trump also continues to hone in on Hunter Biden in the closing days of the campaign, despite allies like Sen. Ted Cruz warning him that it’s not a winning final message. Trump even acknowledged as much in Florida. “I get a call from all the experts, right?” Trump roared to the crowd. “Guys that ran for president six, seven, eight times. Never got past the first round, but they’re calling me up, ‘Sir, you shouldn’t be speaking about Hunter. You shouldn’t be saying bad things about Biden because nobody cares.’ I disagree. Maybe that’s why I’m here and they’re not. But they say, ‘Talk about your economic success. Talk about 33.1 percent, the greatest in history.’ Now, look, if I do, I mean, how many times can I say it?”
I have not run for President six times. But any day now!

Narc...Jack Reacher this time is co-written with Lee Child's son for the first time. That NEVER works well in an attempt to extend a franchise. Generally my rule is to never read a book whose cover includes small print admitting to a co-author. I took a chance with this one and it is no good. This lesson, which I learned years ago from Tom Clancy, has never failed me.
Note, I read Kyle Mills on his own, but nobody can do Vince Flynn and Mitch Rapp.

Ignatz:
"Your restricted idea of what this class might consist of is not consistent with what I described nor is it too consistent with reality or history."
I was simply working from the only only argument you made for Trump being a natural denizen of the ruling class of "Marxists, far left progs, the Deep State and state capitalists," which was his status as "as a billionaire hatched by a centimillionaire in one of the twin capitols of the Ruling Class," something which still does not apply to any of your additional exemplars. Trump was always on a different track from the Harvard/Yale/Georgetown class as well as the Marxists & progs, etc. He was never a good fit for the ruling class, as you further describe it, either, so in that sense, alone, it's the concept of betrayal that is not particularly consistent with reality, nor particularly useful.
Yes, Trump wants to drain the tangled swamp you detail, and the swamp hates him for it. Not a surprise. I'm suggesting, however, that they don't despise him for betraying his class, they despise him for the temerity of thinking he's qualified to be part of it, and even worse, for presuming to school it and…. rule it. It's not that he's a traitor, it's that he's the very personification of the populism they've always scorned & feared.

Reporting in finally from a still very messed up ATL from hurrican zeta. We managed to get power back late last night after about 17 hours but adjacent communities inside perimeter are being told no power until sunday night. I honestly think there are simply not enough transformers to replace everything blown out about 5 am yesterday morning.
Many grocery stores without power so as people need to replace what is thrown out the supplies are low and rapidly diminishing. Steph-it's almost as bad as opal up here. As of 5 pm last night they still hadn't fixed the traffic light by all three hospitals on pill hill at J ferry and PDR. One of the highest priorities to fix because of all the ambulance traffic.

Posted by: Jane | October 30, 2020 at 12:03 PM
The Ruling Class has a unifying credo. Its membership is diverse in areas separate from that credo. Its members have different motivations for adopting that credo. There are regional differences among the members and many strata to it. But the credo abides.
It is so common as to be expected that very rich New Yorkers adopt that credo, even if the borough they are from is not Manhattan. The social pressure to do so is immense. And whether they are gauche or refined, nouveau riche or old money they are part of the club so long as they adopt the credo.
Trump has always resisted much of that credo and has therefore been at times an object of intense ridicule by the high priests of the Ruling Class such as the gruesome Graydon Carter. He is sometimes portrayed as a barbarian because he is expected to make a kow-tow he has never made. Had he adopted the credo he would have been portrayed as a little rough perhaps and a bit of a rascal, but a lovable and ultimately benevolent member of society's natural leaders and a favorite son of New York. They never rejected him completely because he was never aggressively anti-credo and made ambivalent statements and so they poked fun but they also hobnobbed and courted him in hopes of turning him back to where he should have been all along. They invited him to parties and gave him TV shows.
The main argument against him by conservatives as he ran for president was that despite his rhetoric we couldn't trust he'd be conservative because he was a rich New Yorker and had said suspect things and donated to suspect people.
When it turned out he was more conservative than anyone thought and in a most obstinate manner unexpected from lapdog Republicans and when he proved serious about actually threatening the governing credo of the Ruling Class, all hopes of courting him and turning him back to his proper place ended and total war was declared.
Had he sought instead the Strange New Respect Award and betrayed all those who voted for him by adopting the credo as president all would already have been forgiven, the press would worship him, the mavens would write him encomia and Joe Biden would be laughed off the stage as a senile old fuddy-duddy.
These same like self evident truths to me, but you seem to disagree over some point I'm not exactly clear on so this will probably never come to a meeting of the minds.

TM:
"The Hunter Biden thing won't change minds"
It's not going to turn a raging prog into a confirmed Republican, but there are a whole lot of people around the margins who weren't exactly thrilled with the Biden/Harris ticket to start with. If the Hunter news contributes to voter depression and/or apathy on the left, it's worth touting.
Any dem who shows up at a Trump rally is obviously open to persuasion, but at this point, it's not about conversions. As I understand it, what's important in the home stretch is discouraging the opposition and getting out your own voters. Changing minds is not the relevant strategy.

Based on FL early vote returns so far I don't see any way for Biden to take FL.
If he can't win FL he can't win, in my opinion. He'd have to almost run the table on PA, MI, WI, and ME-2.
Or flip AZ and two of MI, PA, WI.
If that were possible I don't think MN and NV would be as close as they are.

If the thoroughly debased field of journalism (although truthfully with the pamphleteer start, how low can it go?) ever re-emerges as something better than outright propaganda, Tapper types will need a fall back occupation.

So the significant other, a raging lib, asked me this morning what I would do if Biden won. I said that I wouldn't be rioting or looting. She got mad.

Bobby Orr took out a full page ad in the Union Leader to endorse Trump. I wonder if John Henry's ad refused to run it?

Peter,
Thank you for posting the letter from Archbishop Viganò. It's no longer obscure speculation. They really mean to do this thing.

Ignatz:
That sounds an awful lot like what folks used to call "The Man." Is credo a stand-in for "ideology," as you have previously defined it?Trump apparently being the very exception which proves your rule? Folks didn't hobnob and court him in order to draw him back into the fold where he belonged. They wanted him to contribute to causes social, political & commercial, but he was always more benevolent Godfather than fellow traveler. At every turn you describe a man who was tolerated by the ruling class, not a credentialed part of it, which was my initial point. You actually go further and make him sound like New York's pet monkey ("They invited him to parties and gave him TV shows.").
Most of what you describe seems more like pop-psyche speculation and extrapolation from what you imagine life in "ruling class" New York to be. My own impression is that nobody took him seriously as a political (ruling class) force. When he stepped up to bat as a Republican, the opposition were not weeping and wailing about betrayal. He wasn't a traitor to his class, he was the idiot (upstart) who actually thought he could be President. They resent him for proving them completely wrong and desperately want to see him fail.
And no, he didn't betray the republicans who voted for him, but that doesn't mean he betrayed the folks who didn't vote for him.

Ok I’m as usual hopelessly behind, but has anyone yet committed upon the 2nd and 3rd lines of the purported Vigano letter?
Christ the King is the last Sunday of the liturgical year, the week before the first of the four Sundays of Advent. In 2020, CtK is November 22nd.
Either the letter is fake, or Vigano is seriously losing it!
