Howdy!

Back from voting. Straight ticket.

Polling held in one of the large areas of our local VoTech school. No lines. At least half the stations were empty. One lone Biden supporter with sign out front but he was at the exit not the parking lot entrance. A typical Biden supporter, I guess🤡

joan

My goodness, reading the thread topic made me dizzy, especially this: "What if a Trump win will make the worst people and ideas in the Republican Party stronger, at the expense of the best?"

all I can say is TRUMP 2020!

Narciso

They want to empower terrorists, eliminate fossil fuels come on tm.

joan

I don't like to knock our host, and I didn't mean my previous comment to be one -- it's that I dont understand not realize the 'Dark Times' we'll enter with a Biden win. He's alreay promised us a Dark Winter.

Young Lurker

voted in CT, FWIW.

I'm glad to see maryrose posting every day or so now. MR, you bring a certitude to your beliefs that is calming and reassuring (at times) !! :)

Just back from voting.

Quoting that asshole Baseball Crank? Full Patterico.

A few thoughts:

I wa surprised this morning by our 10 year-old, fifth grade grandson. (My husband takes the grandchildren to school -- the grade schooler back her for about 30 minutes to have a bacon toast sandwich. His elementary school starts about 30 minutes after the older girls.

He usually watches How to Train A Dragon on Netflix, but I overslept and my husband put a football game on -- as I came thru there was a break and an ad for Biden came up. Hunt said, "I don't like Biden, isn't he the one that doesn't like cops?!"

So our living room turned into Trump 2020! He's all for Trump. So are his friends (and their families) -- at the Indian Nation Football conference the youth around the state play in (seriously, I assure you, we play games all over the state, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, etc.) I've seen MAGA hats. One players mother told a group of relatives to boys on our team come to sit down with us in the stands, don't bother sitting with us if you're not for Trump. They all laughed and sat down in our group.

Young Lurker

How are you guys able to upload images in your comments?

Captain Hate

YL,

It used to be impossible for me until I started using postimages. It's very user friendly.

joan

One thing I've noticed: you can tell (around here) the Biden voters (liberals) and Trump voters by church denomination: Lutherans, Presbyterian, maybe Methodists all lean left. Then we come to Baptists (there are probably 10 different Baptist churches in our area), Nazarene, Church of God, Church of Christ. Non-denominational are true Red Trump voters. You can tell anywhere you go in our smallish town, who's going to vote Trump. I have no idea about Catholics, we have plenty, but I don't get the sense of what they think.

There are plenty of democrats here, but I think they're like the democrats of old. They don't want BLM, antifa, way left policies here.

Sue

I hate to pin my hopes on Joe Manchin not packing the courts.

My take is that narc has answered those pleas, and decided how he's rolling,

His rolling helps with my scrolling.

Several texts to the Armstrong and Getty show suggest that long lines are everywhere. One person said that they will not wait the 1.5 hours now and head back at noon and try again.

Conspiracy me thinks that the high Dow is part of the scam so that the dolts who think there will be less of a wait later can rationalize not voting because the stock market said “Trump will win.”

I second CH, YL.

I put the image I want use on my desktop then go to post image, where the give size options. There is one for posting on blogs. You click that and bring your photo from desktop, then copy it.

At the receiving site e.g. JOM, go into comment box type img src=“ “ between < and> Paste photo between the parens. Post it.

Narciso

Hey sue hoe have you been?

Willowed reply to TK from the last thread:

TK,

That's why I don't trust the volunteer site which posts wait times. I think they are trying to keep older people from voting. I don't believe any of them.

Narciso

Sue

Hi narciso. I’m good. And you?

sbwaters

Blowing gawd awful smoke! Neither political nor science.

When @cvpayne suggested reconciliation, I replied:

.@cvpayne, reconciliation takes second place to recognizing the value of honesty, openness, and exchange of ideas. That won’t happen so long as corporate media like the @AP insist that the #opinion of its reporters belongs in the stories they file. They squandered our #Trust.

joan

This state has edged left for a decade or so. I'll be surprised if Tulsa and Oklahoma City don't go big for Biden. (Wish I could make a spit sound here, but don't know how to type one. :)

Our town is sort of the same -- we have our evangelicals, but because it was the home of PPCo for so many years, lots and lots of liberals were transferred in here. We still have several thousand jobs here from Conoco-Phillips and Phillips 66, but the decades of transferring in liberals, plus other companies -- a few spin-offs from PPCo, then ABB Automation, 85 offices from around the world, who transfer people in and out, Seimans (glass chromographs was here until 2018, when they transferred to Houston -- have changed the solid conservative base. So there are a lot of liberals here.

This is what is going to happen to all of those Red places that liberals are fleeing to from California, Washington, Oregon, etc., as everyone has been saying -- they bring change, and not the kind you feel safe with.

Thomas Collins

Temperamental centrist? Far more likely that Biden is the Trojan Horse for the onward March of cultural Marxism.

Here is the brutal reality. Whatever one thinks of Trump's crude talk, Trump has governed as close to the classical liberal tradition in domestic policy as one could imagine in domestic foreign. In foreign policy and trade, Trump has governed in a manner appropriately modulating one world borderless ersatz elite therapeutic totalitarianism. His administration has brokered historic peace frameworks in the Middle East and the Balkans. He has not converted our foreign policy to Jacksonianism, but has brought a needed Jacksonian element to our internationalism. He is a non-interventionist in a way that keeps our strength and puts our troops in harm's way only when he has concluded it is in our national interest, not the interest of one world fantasy people. He has appointed judges of superior intellect who believe in interpreting, not making law. His governance will be missed if the oligarchs succeed in installing Biden.

For some reason, the thought that keeps going through my head today is the following: There are none so blind as those who will not see.

My prediction: Trump wins today, and Biden is inaugurated. I hope to hell I am wrong in the latter prediction.

I've heard one too many "conservatives" rationalize a vote for Biden similarly to McLaughlin. Amazingly short memory from "Elections have consequences," "We have to pass it to know what's in it," and similar demonstrations of the Democrats "character."

Wrong like this? Trump wins today, and Kamala is inaugurated.

(Reuters) - Wall Street’s main indexes rose at the open on Tuesday as investors bet on a victory for Democratic nominee Joe Biden in one of the most divisive presidential races in U.S. history.

Does this make sense?

MissMarple2

Thomas Collins,

For those who are on Twitter, I DEFY anyone to show me the "crude talk" that President Trump produces compared to the vile talk that the leftists produce.

Who calls average voters "c*nts" or tells people to "go suck Trump's d*ck"? Who accuses Trump of having an incestuous affair with his daughter?

President Trump doesn't speak any worse than my father did, who worked construction or maintenance all his life. He seems to get along fine wiith no pearl-clutching from European MP's, other than those who are actual Communists or under the pay of the Chinese.

I have watched almost every speech. He gets along great with Mike Pence, which astounded me when he first named Pence. But yesterday I saw him get a prayer from FRANKLIN GRAHAM on the podium and also support from the gay community due to Trump's treating them with RESPECT.

What I hope is that a lot of democrats have woken up and are seeing the value in FIXING THINGS and PROTECTING CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS.

Threadkiller

Haha! I’m going to try to explain my 10:56 which has me completely mystified.

I cut boris’ text up to the “...”, put it inside italics, and somehow the picture came through instead of his text.

Threadkiller

For whatever reason(maybe because it is a typepad link?) the image address Boris linked will post as an image from my iPhone. But any image I pull off of the internet won’t work.

I am going to work on a car instead of clogging the thread with picture posting confusion.

It is me, not you. :-)

MissMarple2

My sister is picking me up in an hour or so, so I had better get gussied-up enough to appear in public. I am taking all of my hospital discharge papers so that if I can ask to sit down inside or jump the line I have some proof. I am also taking 2 masks, my voter registration card, my driver's license, my passport, and my cane/stool.

I don't care if I have to wait until sundown, I am doing it. If this guy can put up with all of the crap he has put up with for us for the last 5 years, I am going to do it for him.

joan

We've been in line about 20 minutes. A liberal's in front of me. Young well-dressed man, wearing a mask outdoors. (Church parking lot, lovely crisp breeze blowing.) Luckily for my husband, he has a deerhunter behind him. They're talking about deer hunting, freezers full of deer meat, and the oil/energy business.

Someone just came out of the church and said, 45 mintes wait presently) ... no one left.

Of course I am nervous, cause I'm blathering on here so much. Can't help it.

We've reached the front door)

The pen didn't get much use for me voting straight ticket. At least half of the offices were unopposed D.

I think Trump wins all the states he won before and a few more. I think he gets to 270 without Pennsylvania, and the Democrats work to set up that state to be stolen is wasted.

Not sure about Cali going red, but it will be closer than 2016.
MAGA, by His Grace.

Inside now. Liberal in front if me doesn't move forward in line until there's 4 to 5' opening space in front of him.

I'd guess his age at 28 to 30.

We've just moved through long entry hall. Now on to long, turning hall. All closed in. Wonder what he'll do now?

So am I. :) Closing in on him.

The article from NR at the head of this thread, is utter nonsense. I expect to be sitting shiva for NR before the year is over.

joan

Neither did I.

MissMarple2

Pete Hegseth was in Vigo County, Indiana on Fox and Friends this morning. That county as gone for the winner since 1952, even though it's heavily democratic. People in the diners all say Trump landslide.

Steve Bannon says Trump will NOT let this be stolen.

I will miss being on the lanai tonight.

Great. The Grey Lady subscriber fantasizing about the impending Donk monoculture.

JM Hanes

Jeez TM!

That McLaughlin article is the sorriest excuse for an excuse to vote against Trump I've ever read. What if, if, if? Well, what if not, not, not? What coach ever included throwing a game in his toolkit?

Apparently some people really can get tired of winning.

joan

YL,
I have the text, etc., for posting pictures. Will post later when we're home. Dont have nimble fingers (or mind) to go back and forth between Word and here on phone.

Old Lurker

I didn't mean to out Mel as a resource. But he likes YL more than he likes any of us so maybe she will get away with it.

Or maybe he is too busy today covering all his puts and calls.

I truly cannot believe the garbage our host posted, and that he apparently believes.

Robin, eff 'em all

I think Trump wins all the states he won before and a few more. I think he gets to 270 without Pennsylvania, and the Democrats work to set up that state to be stolen is wasted.

I'm with Art on PA. He'd like to have it but has other avenues to victory.

I do believe this, America is still sufficiently self governing that we largely get the leaders we deserve. If Trump, who has done much good and been crucified for it, loses it will be because a majority of America didn't deserve a leader who does much good. If that happens we will all have to suffer under another anti American POS trying to dismantle what the Founders built until enough of us tire of our heritage being destroyed by a bunch of useless, greedy, hypocrites and imbeciles.
The problem is that self-governance only lasts as long as we don't elect people who succeed in taking it away from us. The old one man, one vote, once problem of electing communists...

(We reinstalled our Nest thermostat last week, and DrF sent me an invitation to be able to log in and control the thermostat remotely. Which requires use of ones gmail account. I refused to complete the signup, but it occurred to me that google now has enough information to include my house if they were to decide to turn off the furnace when we were out of town during sub-zero temperatures. If you knew that you were going to lose your house if you were to publicly state your intention to vote for a Republican, then that's a pretty effective incentive.)

Ahem. Recipe, please? Caro is my proxy...😬

A-bob: "I think the received wisdom is “the markets” like Biden as it’ll mean all stimulus all the time."

Cathy, the big push in the utility area is to snooker as many users as possible to give said utility override ability to your thermostat in return for a lower rate. Google would LOVE to be in that loop.

Anybody who would trust Google with that switch deserves to sweat in Summer and freeze in Winter.

My voting precinct has around 7000 registered voters which makes it the largest voting precinct in my county. In 2016 it took me around 10-15 minutes to vote. A friend just called me and said there were probably 1000 people standing in line and that it was taking 2 hours to vote. I view that as a great sign for Trump.

joan

Just finished. Line looped around church parking lot.

peter

What a closer Trump has turned out to be. Win or lose, no one could have campaigned harder. He seems so tireless. Hard to believe he had covid only a few weeks ago. I am much younger, less overweight than he, and still feel like crap despite staying out of work for two weeks.
I went to work yesterday and was initially excited to be back, but it really wore me out. My company was closed today, but some lame brain called a meeting so I dragged my ass in for a couple of hours this morning and will go back to bed soon. Yes, I'm calling a lid.
Voting turnout is quite high here in the blue hell suburb I live in where Biden Harris signs outnumber Trump signs 30 to 1. My wife went to vote at 6 am and came home because the lines were too long. I went at 10 am and there was still a short line. I could tell from the smug look on the face of the lady in front of me as she put her "I voted" sticker on her shirt that she was likely a Biden voter. Very short ballot, only the Presidential race, Congress, State Senator and State assembly. New York Supreme Court (a misnomer, it's a trial level court) also goes through the farce of electing judges but due to the utterly corrupt system of cross-endorsements, there are judges running on the Repub, Dem, Working Family (nee Acorn) and Conservative party line (a moribund survivor from the Bill Buckley years.)
I am cautious and will not be making any predictions.

Regarding the stock market, I listened to MSNBC in my car on the way home. They say the market being up means Biden will win. Wall Street did pour a lot of money into his campaign, likely because they know he will take care of them. Pray pray pray. Prathaana! Davnen!Ùrnaigh!
