Possibly but Greg Ellifritz's research had already impressed upon me that some of the things we believe or are taught about round effectiveness are either exaggerated or just not so.

If you’re the US-side of one of those semi-outsourced projects Ig, having them remote can be a serious pain. I worked one project with an Asian customer and the integrator in Europe. Three way calls at 3AM wasn’t the most pleasant experience.

Captain Hate

My Indian son in law (now an American citizen) has done very well with Apple but has insisted that the top tier programmers are Americans. He said the cream of the crop just operate at a different level in terms of regularly employing innovative logic seemingly effortlessly.

Narciso

Interesting side note, guess who did the voice of johnny quest. None other than tim matheson.

Narciso

Still it takes courage to hold fast while others are panicking.

CCGirl

Still here. No Ig. We stopped going to both here. Church called us racists. Local restaurants seem to have become paranoid. Not a nice dining experience. We keep trying, but it is so sad to see and experience. So it’s mostly takeout, which we have with our 19 year old and our 21 year old, who have very few options as well. Luckily we have not all killed each other by now.

Sorry if that came off harsh, but for many of us our lives have changed, and we are working on a new way. I know your life has changed, and I mean no disrespect. God bless.

“things we believe or are taught about round effectiveness are either exaggerated or just not so“

Oh hell yes.

One of the recent police shootings had some graphic bodycam footage. Guy was tased, did nothing. Grabbed the cop who was trying to take him down. Partner needed ten shots or so to make him stop.

In the comments, the usual nonsense about cops and “weak” 9mm. Read the police report - the cop used a .45.

Ignatz Ratzkiwatzki

--Sorry if that came off harsh, but for many of us our lives have changed, and we are working on a new way.--

Not harsh at all. I was just being a smart ass.

Narciso

I was only half kidding with that first wave reference they are trying to turn us into impersonal drones afraid of any human interaction

So this mukluks who were reacting as if trump had been holding them in blackgate prison, what are they complaining about they have had plenty of autonomy to screw things up. We have other ideas how to organize siciety.

Ignatz Ratzkiwatzki

Am I the only guy who nurtured a longstanding desire to punch Johnny Quest?
That bouffant hair, the endless black turtlenecks, never having to go to school...yeesh, what a pill.

“ the top tier programmers are Americans”

My experience as well. I think it’s cultural - bell-shaped curves and all, but IMO American individualism tolerates/allows/encourages more out-of-the box thinking. I think that’s true across the board in engineering.

Thanks Ig. And Narc, the whole wearing a mask outside no matter what rule in Mass is nuts! Yet couples are walking together wearing masks! My new (not really) line is, “Yeah, I’m not doing that.”

Masks interfere with human interaction. Yesterday when I walked my dog I did not wear a mask (as mandated), and I made sure to smile and converse when I could. We can not shut down and hide. I am ready to go to the top of AOC’s list. I will never give in.

Okay. Now I am leaving! For sure!

A call to discard Fox

From today’s daily Gab newsletter
“Make no mistake about it: Fox News is the network of Paul Ryan. For over a year now Ryan has been gloating that he was going to use his position on Fox’s board to ‘do something’ about Trump. This wasn’t a secret to anyone who has been paying attention to Fox over the course of the past year. Day by day Fox News slowly became CNN lite and the lone network of dissent in a sea of leftist propaganda succumbed to the will of our corporate oligarchy.”

Someone earlier spoke disparagingly about Ken Starr appearing on Mark Levin's show. I don't see why. I thought Starr, in his low-key way, did a very good job presenting the case against Pennsylvania's illegal voting changes.

My Twitter feed is not near as active as it used to be thanks to numerous people I follow getting suspended for discussing voting fraud. I can't help but think the censorship Twitter and Facebook are doing gives more credibility to the allegations. Is this another Streisand effect situation?

Buckeye: "Turning off Fox and bailing on FB are actions that you can take.
Might also want to take a closer look at your investment portfolio."

For any (if there are any) who intend to separate from Wall Street for a bit if Biden is foisted upon us, who intends to wait for an official result, and who wants to anticipate a potential rush for the exits?
(I'm confident Mel will tell us the market is too big for more than a hiccup, doubtless we're talking about symbolic actions?)

Barbara

Listening to the news at the bottom of the hour it seems all the media have their message down pat. They are urging President Trump to cooperate with the biden camp for a peaceful transition of power and to stop pursuing a claim that the election was stolen because he cannot deal with losing...or something to that effect.

It was really insulting, especially in light of all the illegal ballots, outright voter fraud and blocking Republican Poll Watchers. I've never heard anything like this wrt to a questionable election in my life, and I've seen a few.

Well, at least I have a cozy place on the veranda with Miss Marple, Jane and the rest of JOM's lovely people. Get some rest. Tomorrow we storm the Bastille in Jungle Red!

If the rallies resume, what should the musical selections be?

MJW

At least according to movies, in con jobs there's a person called the cooler, whose job is to pretend to be one of the marks, and persuade the real marks to just take their lumps, and let it go without a fight. The media wants to to suddenly switch from selling the con to being the coolers.

Re American coders being better. It may be the difference between self taught and school trained. The self taught (Americans) aren’t blinded by “the right way” and can come up with surprising approaches. As they gain experience, they learn when to apply the right way, and become productive. Just my personal bias.

henry

@cnbc

Pfizer, BioNTech say trial data shows Covid vaccine is more than 90% effective in preventing infection

henry

btw, that self taught vs schooled distinction applies across a lot of areas. Music, engineering (tinkerers), sports. If you can explore in your youth, you can perform as an adult. our current youth are over coached, and adults credentialed rather than capable. /rant

Masks interfere with human interaction.

Yes, they do. They are dehumanizing.

My boss described how her two grade school kids are spending their days now, in a learning “pod” run at the public school they normally go to, but run by the aftercare program and for which she has to pay (on top of her property taxes etc). The kids - a 3rd grader and a kindergartener - sit I. A room spaced several apart from the other kids, all wearing masks, all wearing g headphones, all looking at a screen which doesn’t have the same lesson as the kid “next” to them.

It’s like something out of the conditioning sessions in “Brave New World”. How can that not be harming the kids. And she’s paying for it!

Last night a commenter from asia on my blog passed on to another that the hunter biden video has gone viral in asia (where she is an expat). Those kinds of graphic images of 'perfidy' as she called it seem to me to have a devastating impact on anyone's regard for US foreign policy if this theft, in fact, works.

And James, that's not a learning 'pod'. It actually sounds like distance digital learning occurring in a common location--the local public school. It does rewire the brain, which is no accident and the visual images on the screen are designed to interact with the areas of the brain that process primarily via emotion.

The actual pod should be an interaction among students acting as a Community of Learners. There's a link on my blog I put up over the weekend to the search engine giant's sub gooru's template for how all digital learning globally is to work and why those are different screens. It was released september 1, 2020 and is called "Navigator for Interoperable Learning Experience" or NILE.

The candidates in Arizona are now separated by 17,000 votes out of more than 3.3 million cast, and the margin is thin enough to generate an automatic recount. Yet Fox News defends calling it for Joe (first) on election eve, they think it's a win for them. They had record ratings election night, they think they're getting it all right. Fox is certainly going to join the MSM in casting Trump as a big old meanie aberration. I hesitate to watch even Tucker now, I'd rather boycott the station completely on principle.

Robin, eff 'em all

White suburban women are on average irrational imbeciles and an excellent reason for repealing the 19th amendment but I find it hard to believe their new found Trump fatigue accounted for 700,000 votes from 2016 to 2020.

White suburban women allow themselves to be held hostage by the school hierarchy - speaking out against the program puts your kids in a bad position.

I watched a very interesting situation erupt on this Facebook page I follow - a local education group specific to our school district. A teacher posted a memo from some superintendent somewhere in the country saying that he/she wasn't going to take away snow days from the children. A slew of teachers then commented that - oh my golly, YES, the kids need the snow days, conveniently forgetting that they had voluntarily given up this year's snow days for two extra days of "planning" at the beginning of the year since remote means no need for snow days. They then encouraged parents to contact district leadership to demand snow days be reinstated. One parent challenged this and the dog pile was so bad that the group administrators shut down the comments. It was ugly. I showed up too late to comment in support and didn't see what exactly was said, but can guess the flavor. Suburban women do not like to go against the groupthink unfortunately.

Wall Street may think that Treasury Sec Liz Warren will play along, but I think they're discounting the damage she can do - she loves to regulate and is nobody's idea of a capitalist. If there's not a wholesale sell-off coming, I think the best that can be expected for the next few years is a desultory market better suited for trading than long-term investments. I don't think a major sell-off is likely right away, though, as investors would rather avoid taking profits this late in the year.

A “Biden” administration will have zero ability to match Trump’s successes. Won’t take long for that to become crystal clear.

Except we have 50% of the population (probably more since I'd assume the nonvoters are even more detached from reality) who still believe what the MSM tells them over what they see with their own eyes.

Another Bob

“self taught vs schooled”

Depends on the domain I think and how you define self-taught. I’ve never worked anywhere that hired anyone without a relevant degree (CS, CE, EE or very occasionally math or physics). There was a need for the common language, some understanding of the other disciplines you’d encounter.

Schools *have* become a mere gatekeeper for the HR department in a lot of ways. But in some places, it was hard for me to see the self-taught being successful.

Buckeye

JamesD

I agree that 50% of the population are dumbshits.

Wall Street may think that Treasury Sec Liz Warren will play along, but I think they're discounting the damage she can do - she loves to regulate and is nobody's idea of a capitalist.

Considering Wall Street's financial support for the Dems and their willingness to cut Trump - and most of the country - off at the knees, all I have to say about that is: they can reap what they've sown.
