Cuomo's treatment of religious gatherings gets slapped down by the Supreme Court.
Cuomo's dodge of withdrawing the restrictions and then arguing the court did not need to rule did not work. The embittered among us recall that NY State successfully tried a similar ploy last spring with a gun related restriction.
very funny, Dave.

Related to today's Covid discussion, although I trust my doctor on health matters I believe her being employed by a large hospital group makes her toe the company line. Since one of her residents does most of the exam, I talked mostly to her. I think she lied, inadvertently or on purpose, about the number of Covid deaths. But I brought her up short when asking about the negative side effects of locking down social entities for long periods of time. She wouldn't deny that that was a problem so I didn't push it beyond that. And she confirmed that my appointment was earlier than usual because other people were afraid to come in, which is obviously a problem.
Sometimes you have to probe to find the right way to overcome big medicine hurdles. Like I alluded to, nothing she was reticent about directly impacted me or I'd be shopping for a new doctor.

Happy Thanksgiving, all. I've been reading but just haven't been up to posting--but I wish you all splendid Thanksgivings. My poor parents--my sister and her husband were going to be with them, but then he had a cough and a test (now we know it's negative, but they didn't come down to St. Pete from South Carolina because of it)--mom didn't know until just yesterday morning and so they are having chicken. In fact, just chicken thighs! At least some champagne will do with it.

Doh. I was stuck at the bottom of the last page and didn't realize it.
The health system is near collapse as far as I am concerned. Woke up at the obscene hour of 8 AM to prepare for a telehealth dermatology doctor's call at 8:30 AM. No call. I call them. Nobody answers. Mailbox is full. I waited 7 weeks for the damn appointment.
Monday I went for a bilateral venous ultrasound of the lower legs. They did the left leg artery instead? The technician had such an accent that I couldn't follow along. They're supposed to call my clinic to clear up the "confusion." Hey, I'm not confused. Do the test I asked for and am approved for.

Welcome back, lyle!
Wonderful Thanksgiving at my sister's! She had a whole turkey which tasted great and I got to bring a bunch home for sandwiches, since I don't get much meat around here.
Also, stuffing, mashed potatoes, a super sweet potato dish from my DIL, green beans, lima beans, rolls, and canned cranberry sauce, which is a favorite in my family since we are far from cranberry bogs and we don't cotton to that there fancy cranberry relish. LOL!
Besides my daughter and myself, we had my son, his wife and my youngest grandson (age 6) my sister and her daughter. Small but friendly group with no arguments. (Yay!)
Looks like my niece will get laid off from her job at a law firm, which is apparently down-sizing. (Probably because everyone is practicing law on the internet.) Would appreciate prayers for her to find another job. She's single with a couple of cats and in a condo.
We had a great time recounting childhood stories, including the one about my dad's geese, who could fly because my dad thought it was mean to clip their wings. (Shades of my daughter.) They could REALLY fly, and learned to recognize the sound of his truck heading home. He would stop at the local grocery (back prior to supermarkets on this side of town) and pick up what he called "the green stuff", produce clippings and produce past it's prime.
The geese, of course, had learned that the noisy truck held the boxes of FOOD in the back, so when they heard his truck they would take off and fly off down the road, circling the truck like vultures. Meanwhile, my sheep and my sister's pet pigs plus the chickens would all run to the barn lot fence, carrying on like crazy, so Dad always got a nice reception when he came home from work. HA!

Proclamation on Thanksgiving Day, 2020
Issued on: November 25, 2020
On Thanksgiving Day, we thank God for the abundant blessings in our lives. As we gather with family and friends to celebrate this season of generosity, hope, and gratitude, we commemorate America’s founding traditions of faith, family, and friendship, and give thanks for the principles of freedom, liberty, and democracy that make our country exceptional in the history of the world.
This November marks 400 years since the Mayflower and its passengers faced the unknown and set sail across the Atlantic Ocean. Propelled by hope for a brighter future, these intrepid men and women endured two long months at sea, tired and hungry, to arrive in a new world full of potential. In the winter weather that greeted their arrival, they lost nearly half of their fellow travelers to exposure, disease, and starvation. Despite unimaginable hardships, these first Americans nevertheless remained firm in their faith and unwavering in their commitment to their dreams. They forged friendships with the Wampanoag Tribe, fostered a spirit of common purpose among themselves, and trusted in God to provide for them. The following year, they celebrated a successful harvest alongside their Native American neighbors — the first Thanksgiving. This seminal event in the history of our Nation is a continual reminder of the power of faith, love, perseverance, prayer, and fellowship.
The Mayflower’s arrival to the New World in 1620 also marks the arrival of the first seeds of democracy to our land. Absent the rule of a monarch in an uncharted wilderness, these early settlers resolved to create their own government through what is known as the Mayflower Compact. Defined by majority rule through elected leaders responsible for creating “just and equal laws,” the Mayflower Compact represents the first chapter in the long tradition of self-determination and rule of law in America. One hundred and fifty-six years later, our Nation’s Founding Fathers resolved to break free from England, building upon the Mayflower Compact to establish an enduring government whose authority came solely “from the consent of the governed.”
This year, as our Nation continues to combat the coronavirus pandemic, we have once again joined together to overcome the challenges facing us. In the midst of suffering and loss, we are witnessing the remarkable courage and boundless generosity of the American people as they come to the aid of those in need, reflecting the spirit of those first settlers who worked together to meet the needs of their community. First responders, medical professionals, essential workers, neighbors, and countless other patriots have served and sacrificed for their fellow Americans, and the prayers of our people have once again lifted up our Nation, providing comfort, healing, and strength during times of uncertainty. Despite unprecedented challenges, we have not faltered in the face of adversity. To the contrary, we have leveraged our strengths to make significant breakthroughs that will end this crisis, rebuilding our stockpiles, revamping our manufacturing capabilities, and developing groundbreaking therapeutics and life-saving vaccines on record-shattering timeframes.
During this season of gratitude, we also acknowledge those who cannot be with their families. This includes the brave American patriots of our Armed Forces who selflessly defend our sacred liberty at home and abroad. And we pause to remember the sacrifices of our law enforcement personnel and first responders. We are deeply grateful for all those who remain on watch over the holidays and keep us safe as we celebrate and give thanks for the blessings in our lives.
This Thanksgiving, we reaffirm our everlasting gratitude for all that we enjoy, and we commemorate the legacy of generosity bestowed upon us by our forbearers. Although challenges remain, we will never yield in our quest to live up to the promise of our heritage. As we gather with our loved ones, we resolve with abiding faith and patriotism to celebrate the joys of freedom and cherish the hope and peace of a brighter future ahead.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, DONALD J. TRUMP, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim Thursday, November 26, 2020, as a National Day of Thanksgiving. I encourage all Americans to gather, in homes and places of worship, to offer a prayer of thanks to God for our many blessings.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this twenty-fifth day of November, in the year of our Lord two thousand twenty, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and forty-fifth.
DONALD J. TRUMP

My sister and I were discussing this rally we attended at my high school fieldhouse back in 2018. We were discussing it because Bob Knight appeared to endorse the President and Mike Braun, who was running for the Senate (and won).
Here's the story from one of our local TV stations. We had been talking about the rally and how large the basketball arena was.
https://www.wrtv.com/news/local-news/indianapolis/go-get-em-donald-hoops-legend-bob-knight-joins-trump-for-indy-rally
This was MY high school, and the arena holds 7100 (not counting anyone seated on the floor). It was built when our school was one of the powerhouses of Indiana basketball. My son looked it up and to this day, it is still in the top 14 in size high school basketball arenas in the country! Of those 14, one is in California, one in Texas, and all the rest are in Indiana. HA! (These are all basketball arenas, not multi-use facilities.)
Anyway, my sister and I agreed that it was an iconic Indiana moment - President Trump, Bob Knight, and a huge crowd of Hoosier fans. Absolutely fantastic.
If he IS going to Georgia on Saturday, I encourage everyone who is near Atlanta to go. Those rallies are absolutely fantastic and you will feel proud that you stood with him.

Montez Sweat does a J.J. Watt imitation and takes the pass out of Dalton's hands for a short field TD. 41-16

Clarice,
When I checked a month or so, the death rate for seniors was less than last year (in the same month). I actually told that to democrat at dinner today. (Okay I’m rude). Sadly she choked to death. Oh well...

That's funny. I found the link in a tweet that somebody else posted and put it here.
That's the one GUS and I were discussing.
Clarice reposts it and they take it down. So Clarice looks for why the link is down. People politely put it back up in that tweet via the wayback machine.
A convoluted Streisand effect.
Hey look, it was banned in Boston, it must be really good, let me send the wayback link to other people and see what they think.

Davod,
Great rant! The cussing doesn't bother me, since I watch The Dilley Show every day, M-F.
Here's today's show, which I missed due to being gone.
