That’s awesome, Deplorable Dave!! :)

Thomas Collins

I can see Michigan and Pennsylvania, Porchlight. Biden will get about 140% of the unregistered, registered and dead voters in Detroit and Philly, so he'll be competitive in those states. It's Ohio that puzzles me.

Melinda

Where the PA rallies have been are really easy drives for dedicated WV types, this is somewhat similar to his ad strategery in ‘16 to target WI without tipping off HRC’s team that it was in play.

Porchlight

That's why I joked about the silver alert, TC.

It doesn't really matter where he goes anymore. So maybe this is to reassure the base.

I don’t see Biden getting more popular votes than Hillary. She had the historic first mantle and that enthusiasm brought out huge numbers. She got close to 66M votes; I’d be surprised to see him get 95% of her total.

Willowed for Beasts

Beasts, you've snagged my heart here. Ig had his chance!

In an earlier prediction I said that Trump would win well outside the margin of fraud. I’ll update that to include well outside the margin of lawfare.

I do want to note again, that on the morning of May 31, that fellow I have coffee with most mornings looked over his ipad, where he'd been scrolling through his Twitter news feed---and after only two days of Burning, Looting and Mayhem (the Murder came later) in "honor" of St. George Floyd, he said:
RED TSUNAMI IN NOVEMBER.

So he's first in line.

An additional prediction: Biden's popular vote advantage in the states Clinton won will be greater than Clinton's popular vote advantage in 2016.

Respectfully disagree, TC. California will be much closer, and that's a big piece of the pie. Plus Trump will win at least one state that Clinton won.

Much better Halloween weather this year, 52 degrees than the 6 inches of snow we got last year. We set up the fire pit at the end of the driveway and planned to hand out candy from there. A number of neighbors came over and brought their candy to hand out. One stop shopping for the kiddos. So we’re standing/sitting drinking and a local police car comes up the circle with their lights on. Stops across the street, rolls down his window and asks if we have any trick or treaters. We did, so he gets out with a box and gives the kids light sticks, police badge stickers and K9 cards. I love small town America.

Jane

It's raining like a Banshee here, and the sun is so bright you can barely see. 91 degrees. WTH?

Momto2

Love everyone's Halloween stories. Sadly, we had zero trick or treaters this year. Poor Darby - she loves to greet them at the door.

Now I must remove all of this non-Keto candy from my house. Luckily, I teach high school so "poof" it will be gone!

Porchlight

I only see him getting more raw votes because turnout is supposed to be higher across the board, Beasts.

Captain Hate

Of course, Dems may be thinking that Biden could realistically get 130 percent of registered, unregistered, and dead voters in Cleveland. Kathryn Anne and CH, what's your take?

I'm not a big vote fraud person. I know it happens but usually it's hauled out as an excuse by a candidate who ran a really bad campaign. I trust that DeWine has taken steps to minimize it.

Or maybe I'm hopelessly naive. Either way I can't quantify an inknown number.

From a librarian perspective, if you don't have enough $/time to catalog 18K digital items, you release them anyway and then catalog/add metadata as you go along.

My employer has one of the finest map collections in the world and they are not all fully digitized/cataloged. It is an immense amount of work. Better to make available as many as possible so they can be accessed, and some of the work will be crowdsourced.

Last time Frederick went T&T was in Southampton in his full head cover Trump mask. He got poked a couple of times by some Latino kids but he gives more than he takes. Came back with a pillow case full of candy which I immediately destroyed. Hate dental bills.

Porch,

It will be interesting how that Trump train gets to Montauk once the LIE runs out. They either have to take backroads through Sag Harbor or get off at Rt.100 then onto Rt. 27 Montauk Highway through the Hamptons on 2 lane roads notorious for hour long delays on weekends.

It will take them hours just to get through Southampton on the bypass. Sort of weird Trump parade. No logistics involved.

Stephanie Nene Not Your Normal Granma

It isn't LI. It is from Cincy I-275.

Porchlight

They don't GAS about logistics, Jack. They're out there to be out there having fun on a beautiful day supporting Trump.

Neo

In 1972, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette endorsed the re-election of a Republican president whose men had spied illegally on his challenger.

Today the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette endorsed its first Republican for president since 1972. This time, it's Trump, a Republican president whose campaign was spied on illegally by a Democratic president's men and women.

Porchlight

Haha, thank you Steph. I hear Montauk I assume Long Island.

Porch,

Beautiful day on LI? Supposed to be below freezing and snow.

Jack, Mickey had issues at Marquette High, 4 years ago. The HISPANIC FREE RIDE KIDS, created a dishonest issue, saying the TRUMP SUPPORTERS were acting as racists. The MEDIA LOVED IT.

Porchlight

Jack, I was wrong and Steph was right. I assumed that Trump parade to Montauk was in LI but it's not, it's in OH.

Clearly a beautiful day there.

Robin, eff 'em all

On The Donald they are pointing out that the car rallies are what people are doing now that they aren't watching football on the weekends.

jimmyk

JiB, rainy and in the 50s here in NYC, probably not snowing on LI, but lousy weather.

Incidentally, the forecast appears to be beautiful and mild weather in the battleground states on Tuesday. They used to say that favored Democrats, but most of them have already voted several times. Good rioting weather on Wednesday, though.

Jim Eagle

No problem, Porch. Being a native of the East End, I could not understand how anyone could arrange such a parade:) Especially from Seaford which is on the south coast of LI.

From the head Trafalgar pollster:

‘What we are seeing is a movement toward Trump with late breakers. We are also seeing folks that had initially given every indication that they were going to support Biden or they were undecided moving toward Trump. And the issue we see moving on is the shutdowns. Even young people we've identified who don't like the president. They like shutdowns even less. Even suburban women who said they have problems with the president, they like their children home and shutdowns even less.’

Better to make available as many as possible so they can be accessed

How do they get accessed if you have no idea what is there, or what you are looking at???
They need to be CATALOGED, right?

If you are going to just dump them, ask for HELP cataloging.

I bet there are many (like jmh) who would be happy to take them in groups of ten and at least document what the map says it is.

Porchlight

Jack, the tweet has been deleted.

There is no Seaford OH and there is no Montauk OH.

There WAS a Seaford to Montauk Long Island parade, but NOT today - it was a couple of weeks ago:

https://www.newsday.com/long-island/trump-rally-south-shore-seaford-montauk-1.50040403

Today's tweet had a pic of a Cincy-area parade from a few days ago and made it sound like the LI parade was today.

So, it was only half fake news. :)

jimmyk

For the few Meechigan fans, does Harbaugh last beyond this season, which is the last on his contract?

Normally I'd think he'd be done if he loses to OSU, especially if a good replacement is available. But they might overlook this year given the screwed-up season, including their presumed starting QB deciding to sit out the season. I can't see them giving him more than a one-year extension.

anonamom

CH, I asked EXACTLY the same question about Harbough---Coach Khaki, my husband calls him--how long are we going to wait for him to prove himself?

Husband thinks he somehow fails to get these kids psyched enough to win.
Simply fails to connect with them.

Porchlight

I bet there are many (like jmh) who would be happy to take them in groups of ten and at least document what the map says it is.

Great, people should do it, then.

Jim Eagle

Porch,

Thanks. But any parade from Seaford to Montauk is a fool's errand.

Actually, every morning, M-F, there is a parade. 9 miles long on Montauk Hwy. called the "trade parade". Pickups, vans, trucks, etc. trying tohe get into the Hamptons to go to work. Anybody who has had to travel west at that time has seen it and was glad it wasn't them.

Porchlight

Well, it happened, Jack, and people appeared to enjoy themselves.

Buckeye

Just made a quick trip to the grocery store. Saw a few flakes of snow.

Still too warm for anything to stick, but temps are supposed to plunge tonight.

Hope Biden enjoys some lake effect snow tomorrow:)

Jim Eagle

Porchlight,

I know about that parade. 8o% of the cars quit once they had to take 27 into the Hamptons. One lane going east, one heading west, through 5 different villages. There is no way you can arrange a huge parade through the Hamptons without police permission to run the lights. Its all a 2 lane highway with traffic lights and stop signs. Fools errand.

GUS

Buckeye, it has flurried all day here in Sconsin.
I guess it's a little cold, but not what's coming!!!

Re Harbaugh: I'm sure there will be NFL openings at season's end. I think Michigan and Harbaugh will both want to move on.

matt - deplore me if you must

It is really difficult to correlate what you read on sites like Drudge with what we see with our own eyes.

Trump is a happy warrior. His crowds are huge. People are organizing themselves to put up TRUMP/HOLLYWOOD signs in LA and lining Santa Monica Blvd. Huge caravans seem to be getting overwhelmingly positive responses. This has never before been seen in one of our elections.

R registrations are way ahead of D registrations. The economy just hit a record rebound. Peace in the Middle East is breaking out.

And Joe has become Dr. Doom.

Maybe the pollsters are right, but I don't think so.

The intimidation tactics, the riots, the looting. The indefensible defense of the indefensible; draconian lockdowns in the face of a plummeting mortality rate; families locked up for 7 months and Trump crying to the rafters for easing the restrictions. He is saying and doing all the right things while Biden has an air of putrescence, corruption and hopelessness.

And the media say he's ahead by 10 points? Bullshit.

PUBLIC SCHOOLS POISON CHILDREN’S MINDS AGAINST POLICE

This is shocking, and it is happening in my own school district, the one that all of my children attended. The district’s fourth grade curriculum includes this insane attack on law enforcement:

Something bad happened in our town. The news was on the TV, the radio, and the internet. The grown-ups didn’t think the kids knew about it. But the kids in Ms. Garcia’s class heard some older kids talking about it, and they had questions.

After school, Emma asked her mother: “Why did the police shoot that man?” “It was a mistake,” said her mother. “I feel sad for the man and his family.” “Yes, the police thought he had a gun,” said her father. “It wasn’t a mistake,” said her sister, Liz. “The cops shot him because he was Black.”

Emma was confused. “He is brown, not black,” she said. “Some Black people have dark brown skin, and some have light brown skin,” Emma’s father explained. “‘Black’ usually means African American. Most of their ancestors were brought here from Africa as slaves.”

In another house, Josh asked his mother: “Can police go to jail?” “Yes,” said his mother. “Why do you ask?”
“That White policeman who shot the Black man,” said Josh. “Will he go to jail?” “What he did was wrong,” said his mother.

“But he won’t go to jail,” said his father. “Why not?” asked Josh. “Cops stick up for each other,” said Josh’s brother, Malcolm. “And they don’t like Black men.”

Porchlight:

"From a librarian perspective, if you don't have enough $/time to catalog 18K digital items, you release them anyway and then catalog/add metadata as you go along."

In this case, the problem is not the cataloguing. All the info is there, but you have to select & open an image on an individual Flickr page to see any of it, i.e. you have to choose it before you know what it is. The problem is the total absence of even the most basic navigational tools. Without that, there's no way you could crowd source any of the organizational work, if you wanted to.

I've been using ya'll's maps for ages. It's a great collection. For awhile, they were about the only decent historical maps you could find on the web. I do a fair amount of scanning myself, and I know it is exacting work. I would really love to have one of those scanners with a book cradle....

Lock downs suck, and parents are angry. Teachers are angry that there are so many rules. Neighbor’s son came home Thurs from college for a week. He was home one day, and the admin informed him that he needed to move out for the rest of the semester. So they are doing that today. They are also moving into the house next door as are having floors refinished. Very inconvenient.

So do you dislike the lockdowns more than you dislike Trump? I say most are thinking Trump is a way out of this mess. It’s the older peeps who are not incredibly inconvenienced by the lock downs who are still voting the same old dem way.

Just my two cents. Tuesday will be epic!

Porchlight

Guy Benson has it all wrong.

Romney had a few big rallies - but only at the end. Trump has had a hundred big rallies since 2015. At least a dozen as large as the one in Butler last night. And he would have had many more over the spring and summer, absent the virus and Antifa/BLM messing with security.

Also, Obama as incumbent had bigger rallies than challenger Romney (although usually with bands playing for the really big ones). Challenger Biden has no crowds at all.

Obama:Romney::Trump:Biden

Guy Benson
@guypbenson
Trump’s crowd in PA last night (left) was just enormous. However: Romney’s eye-popping turnout at a late PA rally in 2012 (right) helped convince a lot of people that the polls were missing something. They weren’t. We’ll see what happens this cycle.

No mention of fires, arson, looting, or other PEACEFUL PROTESTS.

Porchlight

And, needless to say, Obama supporters didn't have to worry about being beaten or their property destroyed or losing their jobs or being socially ostracized if they showed public support.

Therefore Trump's big crowds - outside in the cold and wet - in rural areas not urban strongholds - are far more meaningful than anyone else's in this equation.

Barbara

So many excellent comments and great analysis here. I'll add that the bold campaign of the President has enabled people to come out of the lock downs and the shadows to stand up for him. If he's brave and bold enough to do this for us, how can we sit by and wait for election day?

The people who are joining parades and flying the flag and TRUMP banners are everywhere. They're no going to recede into the background.

Ignatz Ratzkiwatzki

Biden, even for a politician, is a remarkably ostentatious liar.
Clinton and Obama both lie as they do largely from their upbringings which instilled so many insecurities that they try to deflect or distract from.
The King of Paste seems to lie just to impress himself with the unlikeliness of his childhood prima facie fantasms or to simply see how many times he can get away with it, such as his Charlottesville whopper.
The former are almost a challenge to others; I'm going to tell a lie that is on its face so absurd that you will have to in effect submit to me if you don't challenge it. If you do challenge I'm going to challenge you with some risk free manly bravado and trash talk that I know, as a protected pol, I'll never have to back up.
In some ways he is a bigger phony and more artificial creation than the other two because they had some natural gifts, no deeper or resilient than the surface tension of water assuredly, but still an ability to move people.
Biden is like a piece of old, desiccated, hard cheese that only survives because someone lost it in the back of a fridge drawer 47 years ago. And now, when there's nothing left in the Democratic house to eat we're asked to decide whether we'll take a bite of this cracked old slab of rancid curds.
No thanks.
