Peter, hope you're MRI went well.

What I remember about one I took was the noise.

Did you order those Chinese pills Jane suggested? I put them in my Amazon cart (for my husband). I hate shopping there now. (Sometimes I wish our government was as efficient as Amazon.)

#JOURNALISM: “Right-Wing Misinformation”? It’s True! That only makes it more dangerous. “At the New York Times, indisputable truth is ‘misinformation,’ and must be denounced as such, if it doesn’t advance that newspaper’s political agenda. Truthful information, in Timesspeak, is what helps the Democratic Party. ‘Misinformation’ is what could harm the Democratic Party. As, very often, the facts tend to do.”

Dear Vice President Biden,
Although I refused to listen to it, I understand that during your (premature) presidential acceptance speech, you were calling for the unity of Trump supporters. I remember four years ago my President Trump also called for unity. I remember how Congressional members of your Democratic Party responded by boycotting his inauguration. I remember how you and your Democratic party cheated and used the greatest law enforcement institution of this country to spy on my President Trump's campaign. I remember how you and your Democratic Party created a fake Russian dossier to try and impeach my President Trump. I remember how your speaker of the house ripped up my President Trump's beautiful State of the Union speech on National TV. I remember how you and your Democratic Party tried to impeach my President Trump over a Ukraine phone call. You accused my President Trump of pay to play. Come to find out Joe, it was really you and your son Hunter. I remember how you and your Democratic Party blamed my President Trump over a pandemic that he had nothing to do with. I remember how you and your Democratic Party encouraged rioting and looting of my great United States of America. I remember how you and your Democratic Party used the media to spread lie after lie about my President Trump. I remember how you and your Democratic Party stole the election from my President Trump. This Trump supporter remembers all that Joe and will NOT be unifying with your Democratic Party. This Trump supporter will be giving you the SAME respect you gave my President Trump.
Also the media would have to change in order for a new united country...which I doubt would ever happen.

The usual hero adventure begins with someone from whom something has been taken, or who feels there's something lacking in the normal experiences available or permitted to the members of his society. This person then takes off on a series of adventures beyond the ordinary, either to recover what has been lost or to discover some life-giving elixir. It's usually a cycle, a going and a returning.

Joseph Campbell, "The Power of Myth," pg. 123.

Being off the internet the last few days and not getting the excellent news links you all provide has left me thinking about the Trump story arc of his presidency. He's been on the hero's adventure from the very beginning and this seems like his biggest test yet. If he overcomes this he will really take on mythical proportions. I mean if one were to write fiction the way I've been thinking the last few days this is the ultimate plot device. Hero has something stolen from him and he sets out to reclaim it, finds a band of fellow warriors willing to help him fight the evil forces arrayed against them and they prevail. What a rousing story that would make.

joan

Thanks, Mel, Tom, Jimnj, hope I don't miss anyone. I sounded cranky, I have a bad earache.

I watched Dr Shiva's video this morning, Tom. Think I posted about it, or maybe it was just me sending it to my sister I remember.

Jim, your explanation helped me calm down.

Mel, I loved your description. I could understand and actually see it (in my mind's eye) and it really helped me.

I am also upset at my son. I've asked him over and over not to try and engage me politically. He's done it over and over. Today he sent me a burst of scathing information about the GOP (he didn't call it GOPe like we do.) I reminded him of a severe illness I'm fighting and again reminded him I can't take stress, I'm not engaging with him politically. I even said, truthfullu, that at times my condition makes me not want to go on. I'm 79 ... I reminded him that my illness affects everything I try and do. I thought he would back off but I got the immediate response that he wasn't talking about politics, he was talking about how vile, racist, and despicable Trump is. I responded, okay have it your way, but I will never respond to you again.

I guess I should just go ahead and tell you my ailment...it's collagenous colitis. It can destroy your sense of pride, your well being. It destroys your quality of life. I've struggled with it for some years. At times it is painful. But I don't let it stop me from the things I enjoy, but I'm always afraid when I go out. I thought he would back off ... he's known how sick Ive been this last year. I've lost 30 lbs., trying to control it. When I started this post, my old-fashioned thinking didn't allow me at first to mention what's wrong with me ... then I thought, that's stupid. People talk about everything on here.

I never dreamed my own son would be so indifferent to my request to leave me alone. It hurts.

JimNorCal

Ah, to be young and free ...

Arizona is not looking good for Trump. He is going to need 70% or more of the remaining ballots. He only got 53% of the latest Maricopa batch.

JimNorCal

joan

Was Arizona expected to be a comfortable or solid stste for Trump? Did the RNC expect him to do well there? What about fraud? Or has it been legitimate?

Lizardking

TomR/Melinda,

I watched the Dr. Shiva video <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ztu5Y5obWPk&feature=youtu.be> in full yesterday evening and it disturbed me so much that I awoke several times during the night. It was that disturbing! Assuming that the data is legit, there is no rational explanation as to why Trump underperforms as precincts become more Republican (and in a perfectly linear fashion). And, in the heavy Democrat precincts, Trump is actually outperforming the expected Republican base. At some point, it is very clear that something gets triggered and the Republican vote goes away from Trump in a precise mathematical formula. For the county that used hand counting, the Republican support stayed steady (in a straight line) among all precincts, regardless of whether they were Democrat heavy or Republican heavy. Bottom line, this stinks to high heaven. The only way that the fraud can be ignored is if people deliberately choose to ignore it. If that’s the case, our country is finished. That’s the biggest fear. Our political class (Democrats and never-Trump Republicans) and complicit fake media can continue to tell us about the emperor’s new clothes when we can see for ourselves the pathetic nude Alzheimer’s patient. Our only hope is that the justice system somehow works this time. And with judges like Roberts and Sullivan, it’s hard to be optimistic. /Lizardking

jim nj

When I look at this fight I think it's going to be waged in such a fashion as to leave the final step, if needed, to the swing-state legislatures.

Knock out all of the ineligible votes. Run the lawsuits past the local and federal judges. Try to demonstrate enough fraud that if the desired result isn't achieved that the legislatures are so pissed off that they take action.

I expect that the legislators will be watching the judges, state election boards, individual precincts and secretaries of state closely. If they don't like what they see I expect they will do what they feel they need to do to reassert their rights.

Get it close to the goal line, give them sufficient cover and reasons to step in and I think they will finish this.

Another Bob

JimNJ, hope you’re right because that’s what it’ll take in the end I think.

This day and age, when the concept of federalism is effectively dead, just can’t see a legislature tossing an election. Think of the fallout from that. Lefty would literally explode.

Another Bob

Not that I think there would be much wrong with states flexing their muscles a bit again though.

joan

Thank you, President-Elect Jim :)

Life is difficult for a lot of people -- I didn't understand how hurtful it was for Miss Marple at first. I kept wanting her to tell her daughter to 'knock it off.' Just think, she has to live with her daughter. I am so sorry I didn't really understand the hell she has been going through.

I am afraid to tell my husband how bad it is, because I don't want a bad confrontation there.

I just never dreamed that the son who use to be my best friend would indulge himself in rage and hate because of a man who's done nothing wrong as president -- and allow those emotions to blind him to what he's doing to me, though I don't think he cares. I thought he would leave me alone, but he's determined to conquer me or control me. He ought to know that is impossible. When principles are involved, I cannot be controlled.

Belle

Joan, was it you who just this morning referred to a child as "the other side of your heart"? I ache to think of your heart ache to be treated with such disdain. Saturday I was crossing the four-lane two-way road to get back from the CVS across the street from me. I'm carrying two Pepsi 12-packs, one in each hand, they were on-sale. It's a busy road. Traffic lights reliably stagger the traffic with gaps in either direction that synchronize. I still keep my head on a swivel the whole time I'm crossing.

A van pulls out of a side-street as I'm crossing. Well I'm watching both ways as I cross the street and when I look back at the van approaching me it's like it's tracking me. I'm three lanes across and it's moving into the fourth lane from the third lane and closing rapidly increasing in speed. In my mind's eye I realize I'm dead and don't care anymore. Thankfully, I managed a quicker two steps and the van swerved violently away from me at the last split-second.

Tuesday I was on the phone arranging a new date for my Covid postponed colonoscopy, a dental visit for cleaning and scaling, trying to set a date for PT for my legs, calling my case manager at Horizon because I want a venous duplex imaging test done on my legs.

Joan, I think we are all suffering from huge mood swings right now. 2020 has been an "ansus horribilis" for all of us. If someone takes me out I'm okay with that, but I'm not going willingly.

jim nj

s/b "annus horribilis" stupid keyboard

joan

Yes, Belle, that was me. My husband I always thought of as one part of my heart, my daughter another part, she has more of her dad's personality than she does of mine. She's lovely and sweet and kind. Beautiful, really in body and soul, but more like my husband in that she doesn't want people to know what she's thinking. She and my husband keep their thoughts to themselves. I love all of them the same, but my son had a special side of my heart because he's always been more like me. So, I was trying not to even say my son.

I haven't wanted to be so open about what has been going on -- since last December with him. I didn't want to admit it to even myself. He and I have always been close, closer emotionally (in some ways) than me and my husband. My husband clashes with him, never has understood him. My son and I liked the same kind of movies, books, just everything, really. But he's kept after me, at first I thought it was because we've always been so close that he wanted me on his side. Now I realize that's not it. He's just full of anger and hate, and even though I hate the term, he has full on Trump derangement syndrome.

Staten Island, NY, has some Covid hot spots.

Cuomo points out the Staten Islanders tend to visit NJ with their cars.

Yeah, it couldn't possibly have something to do with the Staten Island ferry to Manhattan. 46 states, including NY, aren't eligible to travel to NY, unofficially of course, according to NY's rules.

Covid gonna do what Covid gonna do.

I'm not an expert on Russian history, but from what I've read I see our country on the verge of breaking apart like Russia did after the Russian revolution. President Donald Trump has been our last, best hope, and the rest of the world is greedily watching our Union fracture.

I have no time for people, whether they be family or friend, who condemn the President out of hand and refuse to credit him with all the good he has done for our country and the world. One thing I know. Democrats and RINOs always overplay their hand. The best thing that the President can do at this point is expose the perpetrators of the election fraud. I have no doubt that he will do just that. The rest is up to us.

https://patch.com/new-jersey/asbury-park/nj-expands-coronavirus-travel-quarantine-list-45-states

NY isn't on the official list, even though it qualifies.

5-6 weeks ago they were freaking out about some Jewish-majority communities in Ocean County testing at a 6-7% positivity rate. The latest from Newark is a 19% positivity rate.

This thing ebbs and flows. Where it was, it isn't. Where it wasn't, it is. Not a lot of Jews in black-majority Newark to blame, so it must be something else. Lack of white privilege?

Ignatz Ratzkiwatzki

--Where it was, it isn't. Where it wasn't, it is.--

And that is not coincidental. Just imagine of we'd let it be where it wanted to be 10 or 11 months ago. Now it wouldn't be anywhere.

jim nj

So NY and NJ have both settled on the idea, backed by "facts", that bartenders and their patrons are the cause of the increase in Covid cases.

So we need to close restaurants and bars earlier, like at 10 PM, before people get stupid and do contagious things they wouldn't do when sober.

And people just eat up this "logic" like it's real. The "last" 15 minutes are, somehow, more important than the "first" 15 minutes.

I have a suspicion that some idiot governors think that Biden will bail them out as they continue to strangle their economies.

jim nj

Iggy,

I'm not concerned as I assume I've had it already. If not, I can't imagine why I haven't since. Living in the second worst state to be hit would suggest a miracle otherwise.

I'm sad to say that it seems to have hit the nursing homes in NJ again from what I have been reading.

I wonder if the same thing is happening elsewhere. Many more positive tests being recorded, but the hospitalizations and deaths coming from the same most vulnerable patients.

Barbara

A couple of last thoughts. When I was growing up, my immediate family members were democrats. As we grew into adulthood, a few of us jumped ship, so to speak, and became Republicans. The deciding factor for us was the increasing far left tone of the democrats coupled with the seeming ineptitude of Jimmy Carter.

Throughout all of this, our parents remained calm. After mother died, I spoke with my wonderful, lovely father every day and we had such great conversations. I was a Conservative Republican; he was a Democrat. Although we came at things from a different view, neither one of us tired to push our perspective of things political on the other. He knew my thoughts and positions and loved me anyway. I hoped that I could persuade him to my way of thinking, but I never would have even thought of changing him anyway. We respected each other and loved each other. That was the focus.

I'm falling asleep, so I'll stop for now.See you all after dawn's early light.

Why should I want to unify with somebody who wants to take money out of my paycheck, make my utility bills skyrocket, unconstitutionally lock me into my home and force me to wear a useless mask, and put early death advocate Zeke Emanuel in charge of my healthcare? Why should I want to unify with a guy who plans to throw away all the diplomatic progress accomplished in the Middle East and go back to shipping pallets of cash to terrorists who hate me and want me dead? Why should I want to unify with a guy whose party believes in legalizing all drugs including cocaine and meth, believes in completely open borders, and believes that arson, looting and violence against random people is acceptable as long as the Democrats approve of your cause?

Joan, so sad! You deserve better.

Children—and those who have yet to grow up—believe that because you think something doesn’t mean it’s true. That’s why we have to learn to consciously check our work.

You can't address "ill-logic" with logic. You have to change the subject with a horselaugh.

When a child says, "The sky is blue so I want an ice cream." You won't be able to "logic" them out of it. Respond with a horselaugh. "BwaHaHaHaHa!" and change the subject. They cannot win if you don’t engage them.

You are courageous. You are more than courageous. You are master of the health you have and master of your mind.

You have balance. You have internal peace. You have the love in your heart even when you may not like some things. He cannot beat you down if you don’t engage.

And if he gets ticked at your response, you have given him something to think about: A teachable lesson. That’s what parents do. They can’t think things out for their children. They can only set something in their path for them to stumble over in their own time.

You are blessed. At 79, you get to savor even small things for simple enjoyment. You get to do what you believe is right. And the rest of the world be damned. Ain’t life fun!
