Trump declares it to be "The Big One"! Here is the controversial Supreme Court filing with the ludicrous statistical analysis included. A sampling:
Chances of Biden winning Pennsylvania, Michigan, Georgia, Wisconsin independently after [Trump's]
early lead is less than one in a quadrillion:
Uh huh. So basically, a Biden comeback was less likely than an asteroid strike even though plenty of folks had warned about Blue Mirages and Red Mirages before Election night. Everybody, with the apparent exception of this analyst (Prof. Cicchetti) understood that in most states Democrats were the bigger users of absentee ballots. Consequently, in the states that counted absentee ballots as they came in before the election, Biden would stat election night with a big lead into which Trump would gnaw as the night wore on. In states that set absentee ballots aside and counted them after the polls were closed, that would reverse - an early Trump lead would shrink and maybe reverse.
The "one in a quadrillion" analysis rests on the premise that the late-counted absentee votes were drawn from the same pool as the initial votes. If Trump got 52% of the first 90% of votes but then got less than 32% of the remainder, he'd lose. Unlikely? INCREDIBLY unlikely IF all the votes are coming from the same pool. HIGHLY likely if the late votes were widely understood to be from a county or process (eg, absentee) that tilted to Biden.
As a bonus contribution to our understanding of politics the professor explained that Biden backers of 2020 were behaving the same as Hillary backer in 2016. If you think an election is simply a random draw from the same people with the same partisan tilt from one election to the next, this is an incredibly unlikely result (Hmm, campaigns - how do they work?). In reality, what is incredibly unlikely is that the Supreme Court will even begin to take this seriously. NO, they have not taken up the case yet.
Lest you doubt, a snippet.
This filing is a disgrace. The state AGs hopping on board know this is a loser but they evidently see personal political upside in staying on the same page with Trump and his ardent followers.

Pennsylvania officials on Thursday filed a blistering brief at the Supreme Court rebuking the Texas lawsuit seeking to overturn President Donald Trump's defeat in Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, casting the move as using a "cacophony of bogus claims" to support a "seditious abuse of the judicial process."
I see we are at the “pound the table” stage, after “pound them with the law” has failed.

This is the Christmas poem read at our Christmas Eve every year as long as I hosted it:
A Christmas Poem
When Autumn's last breezes have yielded her leaves,
And icy winds swirl over porches and eaves,
Then comes the merriest time of the year,
With sleigh-bells and Santa, warmth and good cheer.
The memories crowd 'round and beckon us all:
Larry the lion, the Baby Dear doll.
The year that the pony was out in the yard,
The Christmas a boy slept in St. Francis' ward.
Yuletide in Guuantanamo or Milan,
A long-ago Christmas in Cold War Berlin.
A Christmas in Florida with Aunt Salome,
(The years we were scattered yet longed to be home.)
We are the happy, the chosen, the few
Who feast on both Chili and (yikes!) oyster stew.
We have the Scout Reindeer who checks on us all.
Our Christmas Eve is like Fezziwig's ball!
So raise high your glasses and let's give a cheer
FOr all of the good times we've had through the years -
For Christmases past and for those yet to be.
We're family forever, 'round our Christmas tree!

I feel like this is going to be a proble:
At the outset, more than a hundred years of Supreme Court precedent forecloses Texas and its amici’s theory that the Constitution requires legislative bodies alone to set election procedures. In Ohio ex rel. Davis v. Hildebrant, 241 U.S. 565 (1916), for instance, this Court rejected an argument in the analogous Elections Clause context that a state legislative body alone must structure the election process when the Court upheld a popular referendum that rejected redistricting legislation passed by the Ohio Legislature. Id. at 567, 569. Later, in Smiley v. Holm, 285 U.S. 355 (1932), this Court similarly held that a governor may veto a congressional redistricting plan, even though a Governor is plainly not part of a legislative body. See id. at 372-73. There, this Court emphasized that the function envisioned by the Constitution’s reference to state legislatures “is that of making laws,” id. at 366, and it is within “the authority of the state to determine what should constitute its legislative process,” id. at 372. More recently, in Arizona State Legislature v. Arizona.....

Linked by President Trump:
Presidential Message on Hanukkah, 2020
Issued on: December 10, 2020
During this holiday season, the First Lady and I send our warmest greetings to the millions of Jewish people in the United States and around the world as they begin the celebration of Hanukkah and the miracle that kept the flames of the menorah burning in the Second Temple for eight nights.
The candle-lighting tradition that began over 2,000 years ago is rooted in perseverance and faith—two virtues that are indicative of the Jewish culture and the Jewish faith.
This year’s observance of the Festival of Lights comes at a time when the unbreakable bond between the United States and Israel has never been stronger. Over the past four years, my Administration has stood in unwavering solidarity with the Jewish people. In recent months, we brokered historic peace deals between Israel and major Arab countries, including the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Sudan, ushering in unprecedented opportunities for enhancing stability and prosperity in the region. As we enter this season of celebration and reflection, we must continue to build on this progress and work toward a brighter and more secure future in the Middle East and around the world.
Over the next eight days, families and friends will gather to carry on the time-honored tradition of lighting the menorah. The First Lady and I wish you all a joyous celebration. Happy Hanukkah!

Thanks to JOMever posted the lemon pie recipe.
https://www.atlasobscura.com/articles/how-to-make-shaker-lemon-pie
I made two variants today; one with evil sugar and one with sucralose. Rather than slice the lemons super thin I put them in a blender. Then I added the sweetener and let them sit for two days on the counter to matriculate. I substituted an almond flour crust because I'm allergic to wheat. The recipe called for corn starch, which I did not have, and substituted twice as much of some white poweder in an unmarked bag that I prayed, Dear God, please let this be tapioca. Next time I will try making a keto meringue for on top. Pie wasn't like what Mom made, but not too bad for a first try.

YL, I think the cases cited by the defendants are pretty weak. A referendum is a type of legislating and is very different from a governor changing the law. And the example of a governor vetoing legislation is not on point either. I scanned the brief very quickly and i didn't see any strong arguments, mainly a lot of crap like letting the people vote (dead ones too?) but IANAL.

Top U.S. intelligence officials were so concerned heading into the 2016 election that the Russians were aware of and potentially manipulating Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton’s plans to smear Donald Trump as a Russian agent that they personally briefed President Barack Obama on the matter, newly declassified Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) documents show. CIA officials also requested that the FBI investigate Russian knowledge of the Clinton campaign’s collusion smear operation.
Newly declassified handwritten notes from former CIA Director John Brennan show that the U.S. intelligence community knew in 2016 that Russian intelligence was actively monitoring, and potentially injecting disinformation into, Clinton’s anti-Trump collusion narrative. The intelligence concerning Russia’s knowledge of Clinton’s campaign plans was so concerning to Brennan and other national security officials that they personally informed Obama of the matter in the Oval Office in the summer of 2016. The handwritten notes from Brennan were declassified by Director of National Intelligence (DNI) John Ratcliffe and provided to Congress on Tuesday afternoon.

OL,
Isn’t it though! What I was referring to was a block of contiguous states opposing another block of contiguous states. To be sure, even in the civil war there were those who sympathized with the opposition. Most joined up geographically with their chosen side.
This situation is so much more complex. We already know what the left will do, so we can anticipate that the President will not leave it up to the states to deal with the problem as he did before. States like California will be a mess, however the results of the election hint that this may not be a problem. The people of California hate Newsom, his lockdowns and the legislature from hell, so I believe it is safe to say that they will not oppose anything that is done to restore order and the rule of law. Time will tell, of course.

I can't help but recall the early 1990's when the Japanese were flush with cash and were buying up real estate all over the country. Hotels, resorts, golf courses, the Rockettes, politicians — nothing escaped their buying spree. It didn’t last in the long run.
Of course, the Japanese weren't necessarily trying to take over the country and import state capitalism like the CCP. They just wanted to own it, haul in the profits and get a little pay back for the loss of face they experienced on the Battleship Missouri.

32 of 53 Through Providence, the only child of the Deep South on the USSC, a Black American outrageously wronged by a profoundly unserious United States Senator from Delaware in his confirmation hearings, sits at the center of a truly historic moment for America. Ponder that!
52 of 53 Further, the Supreme Court appears to have no choice but to rule in favor of Texas and those states that have joined its lawsuit.

henry and Melinda,
I was only referring to my "knowledge" of it in the 1990s when the Japanese were financing and rebuilding the skyline of Los Angeles.

Japan's real estate bubble burst in 1989, and the Bank of Japan introduced ultra low interest rates in 1995, and have been stuck there ever since.
Melinda,
That fits with what I know.

I luv ya, RG, but this is pure fantasy. Roberts is a giant crapweasel with zero integrity who’ll vote with the two giant blocks of wymyn on what is perilously close to a banana republic SCOTUS.

Totally agree with Lyle. Lets remember how many Bush Sr. and Jr. put there. Not on our sde,at all.

Yes, RG is hopeful. He has more faith in a group of Ivy Leaguers than I do as an Old Blue. Combined with the Barnes tweet, it does appear the SC will act. Will they declare elections a tax? Make a clear ruling on process to change voting? Tell Zuck to keep his grubby cash out of clerks’ elections operations? Fine, not sure any of that matters if Biden is inaugurated.
Voiding four state elections for President? That is proper, but a big step. Flipping those states to Trump? Extreme, so unlikely?
Noah only had to deal with rain for 40 days and nights. We get this, plus a national recovery from canoe accidents.

The lawsuit filed by TX to the Supreme Court & supported by MANY others throughout the US is a very strong, compelling argument in favor of & defending the constitution, law, & LEGAL voters of GA, PA, MI & WI, etc. It's a must read detailing eye-popping, confirmed wrongdoing.

Former Yankee utility player Phil Linz, famous for a row with his manager, Yogi Berra over a harmonica playing incident, has died. Despite his notoriety for that incident, 1964 was his best year statistically, and he hit two home runs in the World Series that year against the Cardinals, including one off of Bob Gibson.

Jane, secession? Ending badly.
Posted by: henry | December 10, 2020 at 07:48 PM
Lol Henry. I was wondering how you would divide the states.

I don't unless one counts 'over my dead body'.
A bunch of worthless commie progs don't get rewarded for trying to steal the whole country by getting a third of it, and some of the best parts of it.
So I envision it as Lincoln did...punitively.

How many republicans are in the House?
Posted by: Jane | December 10, 2020 at 07:52 PM
I would be happy if SCOTUS made clear that the procedures those states used was unconstitutional, facilitated fraud and violated the 14 th Amendment and then reminded the legislatures of those states that the remedy lies in their hands by selecting an alternate slate of electors.

Jane,
Whatever happened to St. Jane's island? It's beginning to look like a very appealing option at this point.🏝🏖

Yes, clarice, I don't even think they'd need the wisdom of Solomon (the King, not the drug dealer Larry "Soul City" Solomon in my dorm) to arrive at that.

Yes, Lyle and Clarice. That would be nice. Some “cut the crap” orders on governors, elections commissions, and Zuckerbergs flouting election laws would help, too. I don’t want to be ruled by criminals in Madison and Milwaukee.

Jane,
I have accepted that I have no idea what is happening or what is going on in DC. Or in the nation as a whole, for that matter.
Should we have a civil war, I figure that we will end up with all sorts of unexpected configurations. Southern Indiana sympathized more with the South but stayed with the North, primarily due to the invasion of Morgan's Raiders and the resulting Battle of Corydon. My maternal grandmother was from Corydon and her family became firm Republicans due to the resentments that battle caused.

Anyone watching the Pitt/GaTech game (besides Steph? 😉)? The bobbled balls/interceptions/fumbles stuff is bizarre.

How has RG escaped Nosering Rasputin's ban? Or does he fall in the "harmless loon" category?

RattlerGator references two documents in his Twitter comments. The first is a descent by Justice Thomas joined by Justice Alito on the denial of a motion for leave to file a complaint in the case of Nebraska v. Colorado (https://t.co/pZbMeinE8P?amp=1), and an address (lecture) by Attorney General William Barr at the Federalist Society's 2019 National Lawyers Convention, November 15, 2019 (https://www.justice.gov/opa/speech/attorney-general-william-p-barr-delivers-19th-annual-barbara-k-olson-memorial-lecture). Both are interesting: the first on Justice Thomas and Alito's views on the jurisdiction of the court, and the second on the powers of and need for a strong Executive Branch.
RG references these in his determination on why the Court may rule in favor of Texas et al.
