Will he or won't he, and when? Trump promised to veto the defense bill but has until Dec 23 to do so. Congress will be home for the holidays but might come back before New Years. Or they might assemble the old Congress and the new one on Jan 3 and let the outgoers override the veto in the morning. Whether elderly retirees will agree to make the trip during a pandemic compounds the suspense.
Trump's rationales include Section 230 modifications to go after Facebook and Twitter and non-renaming of the military bases named for Confederate traitors generals. Some of those names were picked for new WWI bases under Lost Causer Woodrow Wilson. Others were named under FDR. In each case, promoting the US Army to martial Southern white boys was a marketing strategy that is now past the sell-by date. [Full disclosure - On this issue I channel the ghosts of my New England ancestors on this, some of whom died fighting for the Right Side.]
From Politico quoting Trump's tweet:
"I will Veto the Defense Bill, which will make China very unhappy. They love it," Trump tweeted. "Must have Section 230 termination, protect our National Monuments and allow for removal of military from far away, and very unappreciative, lands. Thank you!"
You are a 'diamond in a goat's ass', TM...

"Back in my Southern Maryland days, I bought a 1967 Super Sport from a guy who had set it up to drag race at Budd's Creek near Chalk Point. I will bet CH knows the area. It had an Edelbrock header, Dual Holley carberautors, a 428 rear end. Not something for your average 12 mile commuted down 301.
Drove it on several weekends to Southampton. Got lots of attention from the locals but obvioius disdain from the Summer Society crowd. Got about 12 miles to the gallon which finally convinced me to get rid of it for a more pedestrian Mustang convertible."

Willowed,
In the fall of 85, Jr was in his plebe year at Annapolis. We would fly over for the football games and stay at the Maryland Inn downtown. Once Jr was allowed off campus he would beeline into our room and turn on MTV, and I think about every 15 minutes, Money for Nuthin came on. Fortunately Dire Straits is a fave of ours to this day.
Re songs triggering memories, I developed a theory: we normally live in a thought bubble that is a way to keep our brain from having to work too hard. When we are transported into a wholly new environment like moving to a new town, the brain is in max processing mode. Any new song on the radio will embed quickly as it goes right into a new core memory of that new realm. After that, you can’t hear the song without a core dumb of everything else that was in that memory block.

That sounds like a sweet ride, Jack
That strip sounds like Aquasco which wasa bit too far south for me. I went to Capital near Crofton or 75/80 in Monrovia where we towed my buddy's 57 Chevy with a 327 or pre Stingray Vette with a 350.

CH,
Yeah it was Aquasco but I thought it was called Budd's Creek? Maybe I am confusing locations and venues. Chalk Point Power Plant was Pepco and I would visit once and a while when I was on Morgantown (the plant next to the 301 bridge. Used to eat lunch at that cheesy Aqualand across the road until we found the crab joints up at Pope's Creek.
Good times, good days.

Jack,
At this site they talk about an MIR strip at Budd's Creek, which I hadn't previously heard about. I knew there were some small tracks to the south of me that made funny cars use chutes if they broke the eleven second barrier because their shutdown areas were too short for brakes to handle. Devon Dalio, the 42-year-old son of hedge fund founder Ray Dalio, died in a car crash this week, a family spokesperson said Friday. The family spokesperson confirmed the death in a Thursday afternoon crash to Hearst Connecticut Media. An Audi had crashed into a Verizon store at a shopping center and burst into flames, Greenwich police and Fire Chief Joseph McHugh said. The cause of the crash is still under investigation, Greenwich Police Department Public Information Officer Mark Zuccerella said. The Verizon store was largely destroyed, the newspaper reported.
