Trump ends his fili-bluster and signs the COVID relief bill. What will he do to grab the spotlight this week? More controversial pardons, or something new?

Willowed:
ALL of this just adds to the notion, now the accepted rule of the road, that we simply have no laws that apply equally to all citizens.
We were a special place, back when we did.
In the modern era, this should have stopped dead with Lois Lerner.
Matt commented yesterday about what is done is done so now let's try to fix the election laws that permitted this so it does not happen again.
That too is a Ha Ha Ha notion since we swallowed that same elephant when we saw with our own eyes what the government had done with all those tools we gave them to spy on everybody. We were told "yes, that was bad, but when the FISA law comes up for renewal, we WILL FIX IT.
Crickets.
So why would they fix a voting system that gives Chavez & Putin and now Biden 99% of every vote?

Negotiations between the European Union and China on an investment agreement have stalled at the last stretch because China is raising additional demands on nuclear energy, German magazine WirtschaftsWoche reported on Wednesday.
The issue of nuclear power is controversial among EU countries because such investments could put sensitive infrastructure under Chinese control.
"China wants to invest in European nuclear power plants and use Chinese technology in this area," WirtschaftsWoche cited EU sources as saying.

Charley, a new retiree-greeter at Wal-Mart, just couldn't seem to get to work on time. Every day he was 5, 10, 15 minutes late.
But he was a good worker, really tidy, clean-shaven, sharp-minded and a real credit to the company and obviously demonstrating their "Older Person Friendly" policies.
One day the boss called him into the office for a talk. "Charley, I have to tell you, I like your work ethic, you do a bang-up job when you finally get here, but your being late so often is quite bothersome."
"Yes sir, I know, and I am working on it."
"Well good, you are a team player. That's what I like to hear.”
“Yes sir, I understand your concern and I’ll try harder.”
Seeming puzzled, the manager went on to comment, “It's odd though you're coming in late. I know you're retired from the Armed Forces. What did they say to you there if you showed up in the morning so late and so often?"
The old man looked down at the floor, then smiled. He chuckled quietly, then said with a grin,
"They usually saluted and said,
"Good morning General, can I get your coffee sir?"

--Sure, the Legislatures had the fallback ability to refuse to certify the counts...--
No, their first fallback positions were overriding corrupt governors and filing suit to block the executive's unconstitutional usurpation of their plenary powers. I'm not aware of any or very few serious attempts by the state legislatures, which do have standing, to overturn the election overreach. But the courts are largely corrupted as well so I', not sure it matters much. There is a cost that we all will bear for our collective complacency while our institutions were undermined and corrupted by the authoritarian left.
As to James and OL's overriding points about the goons the people vote into office and what the courts should do; I have been pointing out for years that there ultimately will not and cannot be help from institutions that have been corrupted. They must be uncorrupted, either by politics or by force.
Bemoaning the fact they are corrupted and concentrating on how tragic it is they refuse to do what they should is as good a strategy as any I suppose as we wait for what comes next. The alternative is a pointless rehash of optimist/pessimist/Dark Ages/CW2. Whatever is coming will arrive eventually and will probably be very difficult before it gets better.

Probably what he's been doing for the last four years; stand in glaring contrast to the host of ghouls, goblins, and gargoyles perched on the DC parapets by urging adherence to the Constitution, protection of our freedoms, fighting for America in a world hostile to it and calling the ghouls, goblins and gargoyles exactly what they are.
All of which makes the hordes of Nairobi Trios who prefer a nice, safe, deaf, dumb and blind slide into the dustbin of history to fighting for what we are self evidently losing to the creatures perched on the walls of our capital very uncomfortable.
How dare Trump interrupt their comfy, complacent, magical thinking!

Posted by: Old Lurker | December 29, 2020 at 12:43 PM
I don't think state legislatures filing suit would have had any effect, Ignatz. We'd be in the same position we are now. What state legislatures in the stolen states could have done is appoint only Trump electors, or at least appoint alternate Biden and Trump electors, so that Congress would have needed to choose. The state legislatures did neither.

I'm pretty sure your second suggestion would have had the same effect, which is to say none, because congress hasn't any more gonads than the courts or the state legislatures.

Relative to anyone besides a Rand Paul, who himself catches a good deal of guff here, Trump has not only urged adherence to the Constitution he has abided by it more than pretty much any Dem or Rep in DC.

Rep. Russ Diamond represents the 102nd Legislative District in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.
This isn't going to be debunked.
The PA DoS/SURE (Statewide Uniform Registry of Electors) system contains all official records of registered voters and election results. In fact, it should be possible to determine from SURE which counties participated in this fraud. Of course, it will include Allegheny (Pittsburgh) and Philadelphia counties.

I'll refer you to the same sentence I did TC.
But there would have been a benefit to every state having fought the same fight. If you're lucky you might win. If you lose you show your followers you're willing to fight and the time is coming where the fight will have to take a different form because the game is hopelessly rigged.
Until that realization hits a critical mass we will be in this new Phony War or PW2.

I honestly thought that the GOP would be better than what they've displayed and at least pretend to be as outraged by the blatant cheating as we are.
Again, our state did things correctly by conducting a more or less accurate tabulating of the votes. If I lived in Michigan or Pennsylvania, particularly the latter which I damn well know is a MAGA state, I'd be ready to burn it down until justice was done.

Finally home after another short trip to the Front Range just for Christmas. Had expected to stay longer and maybe work our way around to St George, but weather does what it does.
First the fun part of the trip back. Had an hour long chat with my 1st roomie in kolledge, who's been a pal ever since. He mentions that his son and fairly new bride are in Denver and are heading to Seattle. Hadn't seen the son since he was maybe still in HS. He eventually followed his dad into the airline pilot gig and after a fairly good run flying for JAL, switched to Qatar Airways driving the monster A-380's all around the globe. Well, that lasted until this year's shutdown. So now he is setting up to drive 747s for the old drag racer, Kalitta and they are looking for a permanent home to base out of. His bride is a stew for Qatar Airways (drop dead gorgeous) and is still likely to be called back.
So we offer them a ride and met up Sunday morning for the last decent day to head home. All good except for some excess baggage that almost required someone to sit on a suitcase. Roll out of Centennial under beautiful calm skies. Head north to Cheyenne on our way to Bozeman for a fuel stop given the westerly wind pattern. Well, about 50 miles north of Denver we've climbed up into the low 20's and it was like hitting the side of a slightly padded freight train. 130kts out of the west that suddenly had everyone up there scrambling for some different altitude. We hit some holes that caused the suitcases to float about 6" off the floor. Autopilot kicks off saying 'I'm done, it's all yours'. We pull power and start back down to 18K hoping for the wings to stay attached. In about 10 miles the winds went from 130kts to 20kts. Ouch. That's a lot of shear flow.
The stopover in Bozeman was like last year. About $1-2B worth of heavy iron bizjets on the ground, or coming/going to pick up their elite pax who were skiing at Big Sky for Christmas. Total mayhem on the ground when mixed with the commercial traffic and a reversal of the runway for a wind change. One guy on the radio managed to keep it all going without any bent metal, but it was like listening to an auctioneer. Heh.
When we finally get to our usual fuel stop at the Boeing plant (Paine Field), it was just about sundown, so I called an audible and decided to not press on home after dark. So we drove the kids downtown in our old durable 4-Trotter airpot truck to the hotel next to Pike's Place Market they had reserved for a couple weeks and then headed back to Paine for a quiet night in the Hilton Garden up there where we were probably the only guests. (My first stay in a hotel since March 1.)
Yesterday just became our usual once a month big box run where I drive the boss around to her preferred sequence of stores and then a quick lunch at PF Chang's (outside only, of course, @45 deg.) and then the short hop home.
I think we are done for awhile. I'll see if any of my buds here are planning on going down to Olympia on 1/6. Wouldn't want to do it solo, but might be convinced to join a well armed group.

Caro--
Don't you spend at least some time in Park City? We had friends over in back yard a few days ago and they have closed on 12 acres in that area? She grew up under Tito and actually cried years ago when she realized where my ed story was going and what she had grown up under.
Very well travelled. Their son is my son's best friend going back to middle school. She cried at the idea her children voted for bo and feels like an Ivy league ed 'ruined' how her daughter sees the world.

Clarice "Every time I see Fat Al Gore I hear the score from Music Man."
And I see a guy that made hundreds and hundreds of millions by selling the AGW Scam to really stupid Americans.
(Even though he was already rich from his Dad's Occidental Petroleum investments.)

My son was born in 2001. At that very time Al Gore left office, and prolly a few chakras behind, and started his LARGE SCALE GRIFTING.
He told me. Yes YES, Al Gore told me that we were all going to die before Mickey turned 16. Pork Chop Gore, is still fat, still rich, and I'm happy to report MICKEY is in COLLEGE and quite ALIVE.
My late Scottish Mother once told me. Acccchhh, ma wee GUSSIEPOO, I know a BRANCH DAVIDIAN when I see one.

Remember, more infectious does not mean more deadly.

GUS,
Beside Chelsea I am a Brighton follower. My descendcy. Disappointed in there match with Arsenal to let in an extra time goal.
Because of CoVid, I think the idea of who is ahead at New Year is going to be contradicted. Leisceser especially looks good.

So let me ask this. Why don't we hear about any Covid in China as it is sweeping the rest of the world?
South America, India, Europe all are out of control and yet the world's largest country by population still at 86,000 deaths.
The island nations have done well with the exception of the UK. But China? The home of virtually every major virus and bug we have sen in the past 100 years?

Of course he does. he has dementia full scope. Not onset but the full thing.
We are so scewed as a country if this guy and his "handlers" get the nuke codes.

Gus - I'm a huge fan of Winston. Have you been to Chartwell? Blandon graveyard?
I have travelled all over doing qualitative research and to this day I use a phrase a Scottish lady used when talking about insurance - "and then there's the wee asterisk".
I need to go to bed. Who was it who recommended 'Blackout' by Connie Willis? I was up past one this morning finishing it. Wow, great book!

Matt,
Seriously, you think China reports their stats honestly?
