So Biden's "big plan" that wasn't disclosed before the election was to proclaim nothing will change covid until summer. Well no kidding - conservatives know that already. Apparently the people that didn't know it and needed to hear it are his voters.

Jane

The Buccs will win.

Of course I’ve been losing a lot lately so perhaps I shouldn’t predict .

Manuel Transmission

Just went over to read Amom’s Hoyt link and this popped up:

He pointed out how people are still congratulating themselves on all the judges Trump appointed, even when it’s been proven those judges don’t give a hang about the constitution and let the incredible fraud go by. But he used lists from the Federalist society. Well, yes. Which tells you exactly what has happened to that institution. It also tells you what has happened to our legislative bodies. Yurtle the turtle fought for those judges because they were his kind, not ours.

Sounds like another echo.

If any of you follow Wictor, he came out of hiding without claiming any new insights, but he has not given up on DJT. He also wonders as I have: who called in the NG? No Dems had the authority.

Jane

Interesting question MT. So who did have the authority?

Manuel Transmission

Caro, who’s the young lady in your nic pic?

Hope you guys have a comfortable stay during your confinement.

Jane, do the Buccs like snow? Fresh layer this morning.

Les Nessman

From the Pieces
"In sum, I think the administration is already overreaching,..."

If nobody stops them, is anything they do 'overreaching'?

caro

MT, she was an art student that was visiting the Fogg Museum at Harvard. I snapped a pic and liked the look.

Jane

Brady’s used to snow, although I’m sure his blood has thinned. It will make them move faster.

Romney says Senate impeachment trial after Trump has left office is constitutional

rse

The Federalist Society was started by the nephew of famous prog US circuit judge whose name escapes me now. Too many downward dogs during online yoga.

Now I remember. Guido Calabresi who was also dean of Yale Law where the Process Theory of the Law was developed in the late 40s.

Although individual members may belong because they actually are conservative, it is difficult to not see the society itself, like heritage or aei, as a right pincer movement to keep the sluice of this country and what the law can do to bring about the Marxist Humanist vision going in the desired direction.

Jim Eagle

When Romney says anything it is usually something petty.

GUS

Mutt Rumbley is a disgrace. If we can't recognize what a stooge this fool is, we are done.

Momto2

The only bright spot about Romney is the hope that his recent experience in the airport will be a permanent one. Imagine having to plan your life around the likelihood that you'll be heckled everywhere you go!

MissMarple2

GUS,

If I have energy today I am going to delve into Bain Capital's Cina connections and earlier statements he made about China, prior to his presidential run.

I am positive there is a connection between Romney and China, but I can't seem to remember what caused me to be suspicious.

Ignatz Ratzkiwatzki

--Maybe my complaint didn’t come across as intended. I don’t care if narciso tries to make his links easier to care about. I don’t care if he changes. I am pointing my own position that I won’t open the majority of what he posts and if allowed I would downvote the ones that are labeled “fish slap.”--

Here are my thoughts;
People have a right to say what they want. People have a right to disagree with or complain about what the other person said or the way they said it. We naturally want people to agree with or at least acknowledge our viewpoint and we would like them to comment in a way most useful and beneficial to all.

One of the problems is, the way people express themselves is largely an extension of their personality which is a relatively fixed thing.
So ideally we should be able to voice a complaint and the other person would respond and adjust accordingly. There are at least two problems with that;
1. People complain about different things which makes it hard to accommodate all complaints.
2. People often don't want to or can't accommodate the complaint.

IMO asking once is fine. Asking more than once usually leads to pointless arguments, hurt feelings, anger etc.
A perfect example is me writing this comment just like I have many times before. It's obvious it's pointless but I seem to think repeating the same thing over and over will cause people who don't agree or who won't change because it's part of their fixed personality will finally do what I want them to do. And it's considerably more important to me that other people adopt my suggestions than I adopt theirs

And there you have human nature, interpersonal conflict, the noble causes, depredations and the road to hell of man's history, and the rise and fall of empires in a nutshell, all thinks to narc's fish slap. :)

Ignatz Ratzkiwatzki

Romney isn't eligible to be impeached...and he can't stand it.

Manuel Transmission

Jane, as far as I know, it was Miller, who presumably did it on Trump’s orders. Which is why the various anons were claiming it was all part of the grand plan to knock down the coup.

sbwaters

The main page for JOM will not load for me. The link Alison provided on the last page works to get to the new thread.

Also, the Twitter buttons on Clarice’s Pieces will not work but it appears to be a problem with twitter.com. It will not load.

Threadkiller

My thoughts are: “why is this being brought up on the new thread?”

Ignatz Ratzkiwatzki

--Trump showed that the annihilation of the American middle class was not the result of inevitable forces. --

That entire comment was excellent.
But it doesn't address the worst point. The policy decisions taken were not mistakes. They were made KNOWING exactly what effect they would have on the middle class. The Gas Chamber and the Uniparty know that globalization, financialization , illegal immigration, Green Ne Deal crap, etc, all harm the American middle while benefitting them, the ruling class, and they like that. They also know it strengthens the Chinese communists who seek to dominate the world and they don't care so long as the CCP, reversing Lenin, makes the rope to hang them with cheap enough to sell at a profit at Walmart and packaged tidy enough for Bezos to ship free.

MissMarple2

sbwaters,

I also have all sorts of trouble. I have to get on JOM by either using my Twitter link or through my history, which takes me back to the lat page I posted to.

I also have noticed that Mozilla "helpfully" informs me that a page is slowing me down and would I like them to stop it. This only happens when it's a President Trump favoring article. (This is when I have multiple tabs open.)

Ignatz Ratzkiwatzki

--My thoughts are: “why is this being brought up on the new thread?”--

I'm not sure if that was meant be ironic or if you actually read my comment [I'm guessing you either didn't, or didn't read it very closely] but it's hard to imagine a comment better turned to reinforce the point I was making.
Not only are you complaining about me pointing our your, and more importantly, my, complaining are part of a pointless cycle, you are complaining about a thing you have had people complaining about your doing over and over, which you often agree to change, but end up doing again.
That's your personality. It's my personality. It's pretty much everyone's. So much so we barely notice we're doing it.
Solomon wrote Ecclesiastes to address the basic point.

In the 90’s I had an idea for a comedy to star Bill Murray and me about 2 male golfers getting sex changes to play the ladies tour because they weren’t good enough for the mens’ tour. Today if I made that film it would be called not funny, political, and I’d be put in prison.

Ignatz Ratzkiwatzki

Randy Quaid was optimistic. You don't even have to have a sex change. Just say you feel like a chick and you're a chick.

Threadkiller

I read your post and it to me it looked like a slam disguised as a jovial observation.

Threadkiller

you are complaining about a thing you have had people complaining about your doing over and over, which you often agree to change, but end up doing again

Wrong.

I am not telling narciso to change. I am telling him that I don’t like his Schrödinger's Link style and I won’t click for a surprise. I, on the other hand, was told to change.

Big difference.

Threadkiller

But, hey.. you are getting the argument you predicted.

Later.

Ignatz Ratzkiwatzki

Most of it was directed at myself and was an observation that in the middle of complaining about what you said, I was doing exactly the same thing. In fact I meant to include that your initial observation that I thought my complaining was "preferable" was exactly right, but forgot.

And it was a larger point that I have been thinking about lately; how much of human nature, interaction and human conflict is due to fixed personality issues that dominate free will and the choices we make.

Judge Calabresi who sat on the 6th Circuit was a dunce. A colleague, far cleverer than I was, once argued a case before a panel he sat on. In the middle of the opponent's argument Calabresi asked a question about social security law, a point that had nothing to do with the matter and was totally irrelevant. The lawyer used up his time trying to disabuse Calabresi of this idiocy and never got to argue his case. My colleague 's turn came up and Calabresi pressed the same point. The lawyer said it was a good point the judge raised and then proceeded to argue the actual case. When he told me about it, I asked why he had done this. He replied,"I know none of his clerks would let that go into the decision, and I got to actually argue my case."

Jesse Watters: The Way Reagan Was Managed Towards the End Is the Way Biden Is Being Managed from the Beginning

jimmyk

My daughter texted me Rand Paul's appearance with Snufflopagus. He was pretty good in pushing back on the runt's declaration that the President "lied" about the election being stolen. The new mantra is to demand that Republicans say the words "The election was not stolen." Rand refused, and just said he thought there should be an investigation and the process should be cleaned up.

When I woke up this morning I laid [lay? lied? probably lied] in bed and thought about how I would write a new constitution to minimize the ways in which our present one has been undermined and gutted.
It was kind of interesting. Give it a shot.

Ignatz Ratzkiwatzki

One of the most important issues I realized was, minimize "why" any right or power is being recognized or conferred.
That opens things up too easily to dishonest interpretations.

Tom R

Narciso,

Thanks for those informative links.

Narciso

Misrepresenting the source of our liberties is the problem if one does acknowledge they are god given, then the state is deemed responsible to grant and rescind.

The 1940 cuban constitution proceeded on this notion that there were rights to wage s housing education et al, this was not done by a nine member court but by the luminaries of the era, of course it was as unworkable as the green nude eel.

Narciso

It was the same basket that the un charter would collect a few years later.

jimmyk

It was kind of interesting. Give it a shot.

I always say to include "The words of this Constitution mean exactly what they say, no more, no less. Any additions, subtractions, emanations, and penumbra are violations of the Constitution."

Of course I'd rewrite the "commerce" and "general welfare" clauses.

Incidentally, the word you wanted was "lay" (past tense of lie), unless you were lying to someone. :)

Narciso

So were in e plebnista territory, and many are debating how much this negative liberty can be curtailed in order for thiz positive grant.

A long time ago I worked on some Congressional constraints. No law could be drafted without these constraints:

1) it had to fit on one side of a standard letter sized page, in 12 pt type
2) you could not vote on it unless you took a test and passed above 90 pct.
3) you gave the test to an 8th grade civics class in DC and they had to have a cumulative score over 70.
4) there could not be more than 100 laws on the books, so you had to prove that your new one was better than whichever one you were replacing.
5) of course all laws applied to Congresscritters.
6) add yours as necessary.

Len
